Scream 6 Review: Ghostface SOARS in the Big Apple
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 лип 2024
- Scream 6 takes place soon after the events of Scream 5. Tara (Jenna Ortega), Chad (Mason Gooding), and Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown) move to New York City for college and Sam (Melissa Barrera) goes along with them, primarily to make sure her sister stays safe. While there, of course, a new Ghostface emerges and “The Core Four” need to navigate the big city to evade Ghostface while also trying to figure out the killer’s identity.
The movie also stars Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers, Hayden Panettiere as Kirby Reed, and franchise newcomers Dermot Mulroney, Jack Champion, Devyn Nekoda, Josh Segarra, Liana Liberato, Tony Revolori, Samara Weaving, and Henry Czerny.
Catch my thoughts in this Scream 6 review!

Scream was the first horror film I ever watched when my teen cousins rented the VHS tape back in 97. It is my absolute favorite horror franchise and it holds a dear place in my heart. Scream 4 was the first one I was old enough to see in theater, but right before it released my mom passed away and I couldn't find the mood to go watch it. Then came Scream 5 eleven years later and I was there on day 1! I'm so happy we're getting a new trilogy (now with Scream 7 confirmed), I got tickets to watch 6 twice on the same day, one in 2D and one in 3D. I can't believe I'm just a few hours away from it! Thank you for the review, Perri! I found your channel back in the whole Scream 5 frenzy (I watch all reviews, interviews, snippets, teasers, I love the whole experience) and it's amazing to see a review from another super fan, instead of just another film buff with generic criticism. You're awesome!
Soooooo sorry for your loss bro! It’s crazy how you bought tickets to both 2d and 3d showtimes because so did I lmaooooooooo I’m going tomorrow too! Have the best day 🔪🔪🔪🔪
@@nathanisadog I could barely sleep last night, I'm so excited for it! It's Scream day, babeee!!! Let's goooo 🔪🔪🔪
@Krazy Kajeevie thank you for your words. I really liked the movie. The kills, the chase scenes and above all, the character development on this one, man, simply superb! On both watches there were people laughing, crying, gasping, with their hands on their heads, it was awesome! Unlike many people, I really like the reveal and the motivation. The meta commentary and the references to previous films are done just right, it never feels forced or over the top, and we get references to all previous movies! There was only one thing that bothered me, but I can't talk about it because it would be a major spoiler. I hope you have a great time, like I did!
The first scream is the only one I didn’t see in theaters. I was 11 when it came out and watched it at a birthday sleepover. My sister and her friend snuck me into the second cuz I was still only like 13 😂
The only reviews that matter to me are the ones made by people who love the franchise or the genre. Amazing to hear your passion about it like I have it too ❤️
I absolutely loved this movie. Scream is easily my favorite horror franchise, and the original movie is my favorite horror movie ever. This one was so good and I am so happy that it turned out this good. Glad you liked it as well.
Melissa Barrera is MUCH better in 6 than she was in 5 to me. She really stepped up to the plate. She had big shoes to fill taking over the franchise from the GOAT Final Girl & she did not disappoint. She deserves all the praise she gets for her performance
This is definitely one of my favorite franchises of all time and I’ve been eagerly anticipating this 6th installment. Can’t wait to watch the film and watch your spoiler review! Thanks, Perri! 13:12
Mine too
Scream is what made me fall in love with horror so this franchise has a special place in my heart! I can’t wait for this one!
It was so fun, it was the most scared/stressed I’ve been watching a Scream movie since probably Scream 2 💖 And the cast is so wonderful
I just want to Comment on the Gail scene. This movie was amazing but that scene was one of my favorites in scream franchise history. I just loved it.
What you said about Melissa not being to give as strong of a performance in 6 without laying the solid foundation in 5 is so right and also sums up 5 and 6 in general to me. While I liked 5 I found a lot of issues with it but seeing as a lead up to this it helped me love 6 even more and have more of an appreciation for 5 too
As a Massive scream fan like you perri...this brings me so much joy to hear. I love this franchise so much and every single movie. I can't wait to see this
I have been avoiding all Scream 6 content this week for fear of spoilers. I did hesitate to watch this, but I trust you and you did not let me down. I am even more excited for Friday after watching this. Thank you.
Was about to begin scrolling comments then remembered what happened over at Dead Meat so yep, not looking down there. Just wanted to say thanks Perri, while understandably biased due to your love of the franchise, it's one that I love as well and was eager to hear your thoughts on it ahead of the premiere Thursday. So happy to hear its everything & more!
Samara Weaving's Performance OMGGGGG
The only thing that really bothered me was Gale not writing that book about Dewey, AND writing a new book about the murders in the last movie. It's character regression for no reason, and it really undermines the end of her arc in the last movie. SPOILER ALERT FOR SCREAM 6 BELOW!!!!
If she still hasn't written that book about Dewey in the next movie, I'm gonna be pissed, lol.
I’m in the same boat. The most important franchise of my life. Saw the first one in theaters when I was 11 and never looked back. New official rankings:
Scream 1
Scream 2
Scream 6
Scream 3
Scream 4
Scream 5
Saw your interviews with the cast and you kept me smiling cause of your energy and love for the franchise.
Thank you for being so supportive and kind
"We've -got to- LOORE him- in"
I'm so old I remember dermot Mulroney when he played dirty Steve in young guns lol
I saw the first scream in theaters I think I was 12? I remember really wanting to leave after the cold opening because I was so freaked out but I'm glad I didn't. Overall one of the best theater experiences I've ever had haha
I am a huge scream fan like you are and I truly enjoyed this film. I completely agree with your review and everything you said was extremely on point. This is a rare franchise where I enjoyed every film made and wonder how they are going to take the franchise to the next level.
It’s so cute seeing how much Perri LOVES the Scream franchise…You can really see and feel it. I’m really looking forward to seeing it this Friday!
Excited from trailers, now even more excited. Your review has such an infectitious energy.
This movie was good. Its so comforting to have sequels be actually pretty darn good!
I legit became more invested in the core 4
Loveyou so much Perri!!! One of my fav reviewers here in YT!
Been waiting for this!
This is also my favorite horror franchise. The original Scream is firmly in my top 5. I didnt think I would really like this one as much without Sid or Dewey.....but I was wrong. I loved it. Scream 6 did a remarkable job of staying true to the spirit of the franchise with the new characters. I am still buzzing at how much fun this movie is.
So excited. Gonna see it Friday night. Good review, you made me more excited.
We in the uk get this tonight - so not long :)
I wasn’t a huge fan of 5 but I heard it’s fun
As the movie started, I realized I might have had my expectations too high...I was wrong. I'm definitely going to see it again (and probably again after that). The whole cast killed it, and Melissa Barrera was awesome! I love what they are doing with Sam's character.
Just come out from seeing it Twice today - Loved it !!! And I just came back to watch your review avoiding it until now ❤❤
Hayden pen is the best part of an underrated scream 4. So I’m hopeful for this.
Meh she was ok. Felt a bit…flat, to me.
I'm soo excited about this. You were my number 1 review I wanted to see.
Great review Perri. Love hearing your Scream passion :)
I appreciate your passion for the Scream franchise! And great interviews with the cast. I saw Scream opening night in the theater and it remains the best movie-going experience of my life. Small crowd, huge reaction! I'm so happy the movies are still this good almost 30 years later. For me Gale Weathers/Courteney Cox is the MVP of the series so I'm glad she's got a set piece equal to or better than Scream 2. Can't wait!
Perri, I didn't think I could get more excited for Thursday but my gosh you're high praises and joy for this film is INFECTIOUS! I am so so so excited, I love this franchise so much. I'm so appreciative that not only are we getting more stories told but more EXCELLENT stories.
I love your videos because of how passionate you are about movies. I am the same way but no one in my life truly gets that.
Seeing an early screening tonight its a double bill of 5 then straight in to 6. So hyped cant wait.
Perri!!!! I love your passion for our favorite franchise! I had a few nit picks with this film... but I absolutely loved it. The suspense was on a different level. It was constant and amazing!
The one review that matters the most is Perris ! Great review . Glad Ghostface took Manhattan
Love the review!!!
thank you!!! so excited for tomorrow
just booked my ticket to see it tomorrow. so looking foward to it.Gonna watch Scream 5 now.
First time watching one of your videos and I'm very impressed
Well, I wasn’t going to see Scream VI this weekend but now I’m checking showtimes.
as a massive scream fan like you Perri, saying its an excellent addition this has me SUPER hyped and excited :D
Big horror fan and even bigger fan of scream franchise.. that said ain’t nobody review matter more than Perri. I’m beyond pumped now two more sleeps
The acting and body language was so good since scream 5....man the jump scares etc keeps you rooting for the cast to escape
love the review can't wait to see the movie perri your the best!
This was the review I wanted!!! Specifically your thoughts
I love your love for Scream Perri. It's so exciting to hear how much you loved Scream VI!
So I saw the first SCREAM a long time ago. Maybe 99 or 2000. It scared me so badly I decided that slashers weren't for me which is a general rule of thumb I've followed ever since. Something about this trailer grabbed me, so last week I rewatched the original and I loved it! I've seen quite a few more horror films since the first time :) I then tore through the rest of them (they're all on Paramount+ ) and was excited for this one. I think it delivered, too! I really liked it a lot!
Just left the theater lol WOW! 🤘💥 LOVED IT
I live in a small town in New Mexico with 1 movie theater that only plays 1 movie at a time and Scream 6 is not it. They eventually played Scream 5 but not until a week before it went on digital. And there was hardly anyone in there last time so I don't know... Really hope I can avoid spoilers until then. Tricky.
I've loved Scream since I was a kid, my favorite Horror franchise tied with Chucky.
I went to the 3D fan event on Thursday. I definitely enjoyed it; I think they pulled it off very well given that it wasn't set in Woodsboro. I will say that I did very much miss Sidney's energy.
Honestly, I don't want to see a bunch of "Scream" films without Neve Campbell. Pay the woman!
When I saw Toni R after falling in love with him as Tobe in Servant I did the gay “yas” snap so hard
1. The new core 4 survive again
2. No cliffhanger ending
3. Gail should got killed off. Long over due
4. Hopefully the 7th is the last one. They should of got out of the comfort zone for this one
Really enjoyed this one
Best opening pre-title card scene since Drew Barrymore in the original Scream
I've watched it already. Scream is my favorite franchise of all time and I'm glad to say I enjoyed Scream VI a lot. It's not a perfect movie, tho. I think they dropped the ball with a very "Scream" element in this movie, but I actually didn't notice that much during the film, because I was so immersed in the movie since the first scene
Was not a big fan of Scream 6, sadly. The trailer editor needs a gold medal for making it look amazing.
Saw it today, and found the pacing bad, the humor too dumb and nearly parody like at times, one person's performance downright horrible during the finale, the new cast annoying (Even those from Scream 5) minus Tara, some characters acting like being stabbed all the way through is no big deal, a mediocre score that's nowhere near as memorable as Scream and Scream 2's score, and nonsensical moments where Ghostface is in one location, but there's no way it's a particular person under the costume. There's also a huge plot hole regarding Sam and something revealed at the end.
What I did like was the Gale/Ghostface apartment scene (Despite GF launching a 6'2" 200lb man through a bookshelf...), Gale herself (Best since Scream 2), Liana Liberato (Big props to her for surprising me and doing a damn good job!), most of the ladder scene, predictable as it was, the setting, the shrine and cinema location, some of the kills and FX (Very top notch!), and a few other moments such as the subway scene (Short but tense). The bodega sequence was also pretty good. This is also a better film visually than Scream 5. Still...
Sounds like a lot I liked, but it wasn't enough to make the overall film good. It's sometimes more frustrating when they get so much of the film perfect, but then completely botch the rest. The finale had some things going for it, but came along rather in a rushed way, and also had an element that ruined it for me big time... cough performance cough. Is this The Naked Gun or Scream??? That acting from a certain person was shockingly bad.
For the next film, I hate to say it, but I hope new directors and writers take over. I LOVE Scream and Scream 2, and aspects of every film, but 7 needs new talent. It also felt like there was a lot cut from this film too.
All in all, despite the big flaws, if there were three things that could make the film considerably better if changed, it's the music, the pacing, and the horrible performance of someone near the end. If those three things were actually good, they're big enough aspects of the film to improve it greatly, even with the other issues...
Thanks so much for the review Perri. Ive been a big fan of this franchise since i saw it twice in theaters when i was 10 years old back in 1996. So this series means a lot to me. Scream 6 is a Very solid And satisfying sequel. There are issues with the acting, writing and especially the music. but the set pieces are great and there is very interesting plot and character development.
My ranking of the franchise
1. Scream 2
2. Scream
3. Scream 6
4. Scream 3
5. Scream 4
6. Scream 5
Just saw it in Germany! It had me from the first second- WOW! Loved everything about it!
Well, that seals the deal for me. I’m hyped for this one now. 👍🏽👍🏽
I’ve just seen it and I will just say that Melissa had some acting lesson between scream 5 and 6 and it shows. Or she has just really sunk herself into the character.
Really fun film and the chase scenes are amazing!
Without spoiling, was Kirbys character any good in the film?
@@saeefa she is one of my fav characters and personally she did an OK job, but she’s one of the least interesting aspects of the film.
It hard as she payed the role 11 years ago and she had been through a lot in real life and this is her first acting job in 5 years.
My favorite part was them settling up Stu to return in scream 7 so we can have a ghost face v ghost face. Stu vs holy lumis daughter
BRUTAL, different scenery was nice, and pretty good overall. I did partially predict the reveal and felt it was a little predicatable to me (SOME of it lol)
Wow! 4.5 Deweys? I guess I should watch "Scream (5)" first, since it introduced new characters featured in this latest entry - and you gave it the same remarkable rating!
The movie was perfect accept for the acting of the killers after the reveal. They were a bit too cheesy, but overall I loved this one. That opening was so good.
maybe the only person who can see 'scream superfan' and it be an understatement haha
Going to see it tonight in 4DX 🇳🇱
Saw it already in Groningen
Thanks Much!
I’m so happy to hear we don’t have another Halloween situation on our hands 🙌🏻❤️
God this movie was freaking entertaining. The opening is by far the best and most innovated opening we have gotten yet
I’m so pumped for tomorrow and Friday night.
Greetings perry from argentina
.. can wait to see the movie. Tomorrow will premiere here in cinemas
i just came to saw it. Its amazing!! what radio silence its doing with the scream franchise its legitimit awesome. They love scream films and they are show in it. love this new installment.
Jenna is really growing from Disney to horror
Looks like I gotta watch this soon this. I enjoyed the last Scream movie quite a bit, but I really hope I ending up liking this one more.
John Carpenter’s Halloween is my favorite horror movie . But when it comes to horror franchise overall scream takes the cake for me .
I can't wait to see Scream 6 on Saturday with the fam my shirt and nails will be Scream themed im so excited i was 18 when Scream first appeared i was so geeked when Billy semi returned in Scream 5 wonder if Ghostface will have ties or some type of relation from the legacy characters
Great review Perri, glad to hear it's a solid addition to the franchise. Changing it up a bit makes this even more exciting to me. Did you feel the absence of Neve Campbell?
Scream is one of my favorite horror franchises can't wait to see Scream 6 tomorrow
According to the reviews I read, it seems like some people loved the movie and others found the movie quite bad. I like the scream franchise OK, but because I saw all of them, I'm for sure going to watch it this weekend. Too bad that neither my wife nor my kids want to watch it !😆
This movie was INTENSE I felt like I was watching an action movie.
I think this has gotten me even more exciting than ever before.
I gave Scream 6 a 8.5/10. I really don’t need a Scream 7, but I won’t be surprised if by this time next week we find out that it’s been greenlit
I’m so excited for this film!!!
Love your review, everything you said is what I’m looking forward to Thursday night! Especially Gale and the surprise cameo if that was true.
I would give it the same rating! it was so GOOD! I liked how Samara Weaving kept her Aussie accent 👌
Just saw it in Aus! Really enjoyed it, so many cool, innovative story points we haven’t seen before. A few nit picks about things we have seen before, but overall solid!
I love that you love it, but I thought it was very poorly written. It’s not smart, these writers don’t understand what scream is. The scream vi writers think name dropping random horror movies and rules makes it meta and self aware. Scream is supposed to be smart, this just feels cheap and dumb, in my opinion of course.
Have you spoken in any other videos about this one being in 3D? Will it be worth going to a 3D showing?
Hey Perri! Loved your review. I will pass on your endorsement to another UA-cam reviewer who I consider your sibling from another parent, Alanda Parker!!!
MY SAM/MELISSA BARRERA IS THE MVP OF SCREAM VI!!!
Probably my favorite sequel in the franchise
Annnd then spyglass got greedy, didn't want to wait of Radio Silence so they lose them, bafflingly didnt want to wait on Jenna so her role was reportedly already being dramatically reduced before they did Melissa dirty, which not only ended her involvement but killed talks with Jenna and ran Jasmin and Mason off aswell. So now what? We're back to the original cast whose real stories ended 3 movies ago and I have zero interest in Scream 7. None. I wanted more of the core 4, they were fresh, new, and exciting.... alas.
I didn't want to like it because I'm a huge Neve Campbell fan.
That being said...
This movie was solid. I enjoyed the entire experience!
Anyone else feel Kirby fell a lil flat in this one? No spoilers or anything. She just didn’t fit right for me on first watch and her personality was different from the first, it felt like a different character entirely. I feel like anyone could’ve played that character.
Yeah after watching yesterday I was so stuck on who one of the killers were, boy was I wrong? Loved the film great continuation to the franchise, hope Neve Campbell comes back for the 7th film.
what's the map on your wall?
Just finished watching this it was very good much better than I thought it would be
