Nahhhh if he read Child of God...that shit would fuck HARD. BM is just super popular and stigmatized right now but in truth there are countless works just like it...people that don't read just don't know about them lol@@ryanlust1350
legit one of the nicest guys in the scene, every time I've seen them live he's always taken the time to stop and have a decent conversation with me at the merch table
"He doesn't even know his arm is gone", is probably my new favorite quote from Craig. Fucking crack episode. "Out of cheese at 2pm", "Chipotle old head", "on the side if I'm feeling slutty", fucking hell. Matt is a fucking funny dude.
True. Met him at the merch booth and had a little chat. Awesome guy. Did merch up until 2 minutes before the show started, ran up there, put up on ehell of a show and was back doing merch 2 minutes after the set ended.
Can confirm as well that KKTX does their own merch, at the Charlotte show in May at the Underground I bought my KKTX hat from Isaac himself and got to dap him up. Some of the hardest workin mfs in music rn.
My brother in christ, I DEMAND Matt gets his own show soon or I will quit everything in life (I said what I said)... mans is a natural born storyteller if I've ever seen one. Mad love and respect to Craig also! Need a part two with Matt, and three and four!
Matt is literally one of the nicest people ever. I've seen KK a few times in Knoxville, TN and he always takes the time to talk to everyone. I remember a few years ago he talked to me about his grandmother passing away for probably 45 minutes but it was a great conversation and he didn't mind one bit. Super cool band and awesome guy.
Can absolutely attest to Matt being a dude who sees the people at eye level , genuinely took like 25 minutes out of his day once to just chat at the merch table. I don’t miss them when they come to town because of that in particular. Great dude. Great interview. Great show.
I got a chance to meet these guys at FAJTFEST in Czech Republic and had the pleasure of playing with them the same day, rooming next to them in the hotel, such genuine dudes man and when Matt was talking about running their own Merch to meet the fans? Mannnn I felt that. They know the meaning and importance of interacting with the fans. Amazing band, amazing dudes 🔥
I hold my hands up, I slept on Kublai Khan but thought i’d give them a whirl based on this. Long story short, The Nomad was Leg day’s album of choice, smashed a dead lift PB. 10/10, would recommend
Truly love these dudes and love seeing them interviewed for such a long period of time. Chill, cool and hilarious always. I wanted their Hard Lore interview to go on for ten years.
I remember buying a shirt from Matt in Denver and was shocked that he was the only person at the merch table- I figured he was covering for someone. Super nice guy.
I was so excited for this episode and I was not disappointed one bit. This is now my favorite episode replacing the one with Manuel Gagneaux. Matt is such a funny dude and it’s awesome that he enjoys talking with fans at the merch table. The camper van talk is like movie type stuff. I think I love Kublai Khan even more now. Fantastic episode Craig.
Matt remains one of the funniest dudes in the scene lol. So humble and chill too. Isaac is mad cool too. Kublai Kahn in general is just the best goddamn band. Easily the best downbeat I’ve seen thus far as well. TALK MATT IN TO STARTING A POD FROM HIS FUCKING CAMPER
I met Matt, Issac and Eric when they were in Australia last year and they were the most chill, nicest and appreciative people ever. I was already a massive fan of Kublai Khan and after chatting with them, made me appreciate them as a band even more.
Most favorite band ever, love these guys. Been jamming to them for years, have yet to meet them in person. I want to even more, now. Such genuinely great guys.
Oh baby, I was so happy when I got the notification for this episode!! Love Kublai Khan, love the Downbeat, love everything about this interview. What more do you need in life?!
I saw Kublai Khan at a show way back in 2014 in Houston... Matt was running the merch table... glad he still does it. I remember him being super nice. I definitely need to see them play again.
Absolutely loved meeting matt at the merch table at toronto warped tour in 2018 iirc, man is so kind. Nice to know he enjoys the little chats just as much as we do!!
MASTERCLASS podcast!! Discovered both your bands this week and surfing YT to learn more and man that was fun. Just dudes being real and great access to new listeners just wanting to hear real talk. Great stuff, instant sub and Craig we love your band and your drumming my man 🤘🏾🤘🏾
I got to hang with Matt for a bit at their show at the Underworld in London and he was a pleasure to talk to, very friendly guy. 20 mins later he was going crazy on stage haha, legends 🤘🏻
such a fun episode, perfect sunday morning chill.... Dream festival was starting to feel a bit forced sometimes. Top fives of whatever the conversation leads to might be a nice change, films is always a good shout. Thanks Creg!
Ya know you’re dealing with southern American when one of the guys has a local bail bondsman trucker hat on. He’s either used the service or is related to the owner.
I love the dream festival! I get changing it up and leaving it out if the conversation is flowing but I love hearing everyone's different festivals and thinking of my own. Great episode as always though!
Matt seems like the nicest guy and he's a phenomenal front man! Saw them live on my holiday trip to London and it was like a religious experience. Their energy is unmatched.
Genuinely hilarious and awesome episode, cheers! Dream festival is an interesting prompt but you were right, when the conversation is this good I don't miss it. Nice to have as an option but you do what you gotta do to stay interested. Gonna be doing the bass drop many times in the days ahead, let's get this going!
So interesting, there's another alt/heavy music podcast that asks a similar question to the one about if you have the choice of any road side restaurant, where are you going. Just shows the similarities that touring musicians experience and thoughts they get. KK is the shit as well
As a South African, 21:36 "This is the closest the closest place I've ever felt to South Africa" is about having probably the best weather/climate in pretty much most of the world🤣. Our winter is the equivalent of British Summer (it barely gets cold enough to need any really warm clothing), and for anyone who loves sunshine and heat, that is our summer in a nutshell.
I know bands always love their new stuff but “New Strength” is still on the gym playlist to this day , front to back…tells a story. Best band right now period 💪
Loved this interview! Craig I’m curious why you’re not a fan of in ears, amp modelers and so forth at 1:11:00. Been using them live for years and they have been truly life saving, and they allow us to have so much more control over tonality and set design.
I honestly love this episode (like every other) for the fact that you're just shooting the shit, like fuck the music it's who they are and what they live i love that we get to just feel like we're all human rn and not just people in bands and crowds in venues. the scene is great these days
Was speaking to isaac putside of the catty after the gig about drums and everything, and it was as if he genuinely wanted to keep the conversation going. Always great having down to earth dudes who sit and chat after shows.
Seeing AG1 here and there, I wanted to get it, but when you said that you have your first coffee at noon because you just have more energy overall thanks to AG1 I was sold :D Great episode by the way, you are the MAN!
i will miss the dream festival if it goes but i understand change is needed to keep things fresh and interesting. also, most guests (idk why) never really seemed to get the whole, "it's a DREAM, your dream festival" one of my favs was Alex from Undeath.
gotta be my fav episode. I would like a return of the dream festival section or at least maybe a different structured idea in place of it. It def makes sense why it was removed tho
I'm very picky over what band stickers are on my car. Kublai khan is one of two. Love them. I'm from FL and the fear of dark water still haunts my dreams.
@Ren lord this my first time tuning in, was searching for KK interviews. Told my buddy about your pod and he said you're from Reading, then i heard Cathouse and Classic Grand... I lived there too.. and we are roughly the same age. I'd bet we know some mutual people. Anyway great pod, ill be listening to all your stuff.
Dude, you be you, that's what makes this entertaining. To be fair, it's nice to have a fellow English chap/drummer (an awesome one!) Doing interviews. Anyway enough kissing of your arse, Shemhamforash
I want an audio book of Matt reading No Country for Old Men. Or really any western or remotely hardcore novel.
Ahhh that would be so awesome. Any Cormac Mccarthy book.
Yes sir blood meridian would be Awesome❤

Blood Meridian
Matt is so soft spoken and calm, the contrast between that and his stage presence is insane
Absolutely
One of my favorite contemporary frontmen/vocalists

"Anal for me was smoked Chipotle tabasco sauce"
I came here looking for a comment about his sour cream remark. ty.
you forgot the "anal for me is the chipotle smoked sauce" that was insanely funny lol
"shits all mangled up looks like spaghetti" mans hilarious
Can confirm the merch story, Matt Runs his merch i met him at bristol and he was a stand up guy, shook my hand and everything 💪
You can't beat that kind of integrity. Seems like an absolute gentleman.

1:18:06 Matt came in perfectly with the bass drop. Hahahaha. Love this podcast! Best in the business.
Convincing Matt to moan into the mic and playing it off as an 808 impersonation is genius. Thank you for your service fr 🫡🫡🫡
Isaac is such a good drummer, completely locked into the groove and focused
I love Kublai Khan. Went to look up this dudes band and realized I already had an album downloaded, they rule. Awesome collab here
Wish Matt had his own podcast he’s gold on everyone he’s ever been on an I could listen to him all day every day
Might be the best episode ever. These dudes rule, vibes are right.
