  • In the last episode, we fixed 5 out of the 6 Dreamcasts, leaving the last one to pimp out in every possible way.
    This modded dreamcast replaces the serial port with an HDMI one, and comes with a broadband adapter, Noctua fan mod, and a fully refurbished control board.
    We also compare the HDMI output with the component, as well as take the Dreamcast online to play some Phantasy Star Online.

    The original DCHDMI was made by a guy called citrus3000psi who then open sourced the design, leading to people in China selling clones. He then started the pixelfx company with some other guys and made the DCDigital HW2. The DCDigital HW2 was designed to use the same flex cables as the original, so you could easily unplug the old one and plug in the new version.

    Looks very clean! Fun to watch you work on just like your other mods. Also that was really cool that you got to play with other people on PSO! My DC definitely got most of its use on that game back in the day and I still like playing it now and then on the Ephinea server :)

    I really prefer your version of the HDMI mod. May as well remove a port that is pretty much useless, anyway. So cool that that you’re still able to get online with PSO after all these years. Fun video!

    The biggest surprise for me in this video was finding out the Dreamcast had a component video option

    • @MrRobarino
      @MrRobarino 5 місяців тому

      It doesn't. Any "component" cable for the Dreamcast is actually a VGA cable with a built in VGA --> Component adapter.

    The final few minutes gave me flashbacks to the golden age of PSO before it was ruined by trolls with cheat devices that let them remotely instakill other players (in a game that wasn't even PvP...).

    I tried different LEDs and I’m not good at soldering… I think I burned the board or something. Any LED I put it now doesn’t work

    • @JCSmooth
      @JCSmooth 10 місяців тому

      Roflmao my feelings exactly and why I don’t do this stuff. I saw this video and was like yah….nope, I’d absolutely fry that circuit board lol
      I used to do controller mods but I only mess with mods that DON’T require soldering etc.
      Pretty much for those exact reasons.
      I also (idk maybe it’s just me) personally like having my Dreamcast be as original as possible (still have my original box, manuals, whole 9 i have the Black sega sports version that came with nba2k and nfl2k).
      I feel, retro stuff is like cars. Leave them alone/preserve/keep them as original as possible.
      Idk, with all the roms and a PC etc and just how easy it is all to access I just don’t personally see the reason to “ruin” vintage consoles.
      Dreamcast has options for VGA to HDMI etc. No modding required.
      So idk, that’s just me and I’m VERY well aware someone could have a Dreamcast they leave original then buy another to mod etc. It’s not like you can’t buy a Dreamcast etc but my point, still just stands with ruining the consoles lol
      I just don’t see the “need” for it is all. U trying to turn it into an emulator machine etc, again case and point a PC (which holds more memory all day and again one less mod u have to do with ur DC memory) and roms. Not only can you get the job done FASTER, it’s literally all free and all out in the world for you to just get and collect at your hearts content.
      In other words, no modding, no buying extra parts, no extra bs. Just a PC, n roms up the A, that’s your “emulation” machine and so idk why anyone would even want to make “ANY” console an emulator machine when the PC is the best option and again 100% free.
      Lol just makes zero sense, only way I see it being “logical” is a psp or something like that so you can obv have a PORTABLE emulation machine etc.
      To make a Dreamcast (or again any other console) into an emulator machine when a PC will just literally out school them all in that department, just makes no sense to do it.
      So no point in making them into “emulator” machines. No point in doing these mods you are doing (because there are wires etc i myself have them and use them and have never modded my console).
      So I just truthfully don’t see the point. I guess if you want to just make it “look” cool (like this OP with the LEDs) but yah to risk completely breaking your unit just for lights 🤷‍♂️
      I love my Dreamcast too much to tamper with it and all I know is there just truthfully is no real “reason” to tamper/ruin one. 🤷‍♂️
      To each their own.
