I would say mental health and emotional intelligence is equally important otherwise knowledge has no stable character in which to dwell.

True, but emotional intelligence, at least, is achieved through education.

Show kids you can love learning and they will find out whatever they need. We live in the internet age, stop pushing uninspiring, uniform, textbook based education. Love of knowledge is the only way to find true education

Completely agree, this is how I felt when I left secondary school. I had great teachers overall, but the curriculum just wasn't up to the job. I wonder how many people who left my school would actually be able to grasp what the scientific method is all about and why it's important.

"they learned the test but they didn't learn how to learn" Exactly, i just recently graduated from a high school like this. About 70% of the time the teachers gave out answers to tests to make themselves look like good teachers. In 2010 only 18% of my senior class graduated because they couldn't pass the proficiency, or lacked credits/dropped out.

If you can afford it. I find it interesting, though, that this guy makes the case against teaching to the test without making the case FOR anything. What can we do to ensure not only that education is available, but that it is quality; that it’s actually going to benefit the people who get it?

Basicly when my mind shifts focus I try to keep my mind on something simulare to what my focus was on and I find I'm able to get back to the subject more quickly and more often. And media on subject with moving pictures and noises is what I need to keep from drifting off in pointless thought.
After a while I may not even pay attention to the media at all. The media just helps to get and keep my mind on the subject.
It took me over 4 hours to think and write all this. Excluding research.

I can agree with his statements on imbuing the interest of knowledge into people. I was taught in the era of NCLB, and what was taught was never enough for me. I always wanted to know more about subjects, and for that I went to the city library, and later on the internet. Digesting book after book, concept after concept, unfortunately all that was given to me were good grades in honors classes and multiple cheating stares at my test papers. I hadn't learned how to apply what I knew.

I would like Rollins to be clearer about what he means about 'education'.
When I left university with a BSc I decided to educate myself by reading classical literature from the Greeks, Romans and Victorians - this was probably some of the best education I have received to date.
It's all very well being a scientist but getting different perspectives by reading great literature really did change my life.

there is exactly one currency of value in our human culture and it is information. possess the right combination and any person can be wildly successful. neglect it or have it sufficiently denied and that same person has nothing. money is valueless, gold, silver, diamonds possess only minor worth as raw materials. but armed with the right information and all barriers fall away. that is why information is so tightly controlled.

The way a language could devolve, I think, is if we lose our synonyms, and grades of words. (Fittingly enough I can't remember the word I'm looking for here)
Some is more than a few, and a few is more than a couple.
If we get to the point where we need to devote entire sentences to explaining which variation of happy we are, the language have devolved.
At least that's how I see it

1:Don't take on challenges you can't handel( I learned this during hardcore mode trying never to die).2: Karma's a bitch. 3: You can travel with a historicial figure, the character Harold Macdougal ( if he is not a real person) can be replaced by a famous proffessor of the time around 1910 that studied the same subject that the character in game was researching. I was his armed escort.4: I can do and explore things I would never be willing to explore in real life. Living in Skyrim would suck.

Education includes but is not only limited to schools as we see it. Education comes from many places, it's wisdom being spread by all mediums and knowledge being gained by more people now. As he says the ability to learn, all you need to do is search and practice learning.

Omg I just found this group of videos henry Rollins makes...and damn, i must say, being born during the Reagan era(hint of my age there haha) that back then(and still) I thought he was just the hottest man alive.. most women of my day loved pretty boy actors and shit lol. But his hotness has little to do with his looks, I was in love with his tenacity, and courage to stand up and speak against the grain like a true rebel back then, and today, as I am discovering for the first time, he is also very smart and raw..the truth just spews outta his mouth and forms into this masterpiece of feckin logic! As a 37yr old, I hafta back him up here if any young ppl are compelled to rebel bc the man is older, dude I tell u, not a great idea, bc this man speaks the truth and has much wisdom for one, and for 2, your "rebellion" is nothing compared to the way this man could rebel. He ain't scared to shake shit up. He a bad muthafucka

Have you ever been to a Mosque classroom? I have. I was a contractor doing repairs. It may have not been radical but the format is traditional and the textbook was the Koran. The children were most definitely being "educated'. Same goes for a Catholic school. Whether secular or otherwise, it's still education.
Definition of Education:The process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, esp. at a school or university:
"a new system of public education". The theory and practice of teaching.

I agree with all of this, especially on the bit about "teaching the test", being on the tail end of my high school education, I find that some of the dumbest people get some of the best grades, because what does every teacher in every class do the day before every test? They hand out a study guide with EVERYTHING that the test will have on it. You wouldn't even need to have payed attention during the entirety of the unit, so long as you memorized the guide the previous night. It's ineffective.

It could be laziness, or it could be efficiency. Using "u" in place of, "you" takes up less time, and characters. I find it hard to believe anyone get's confused when they see a "u" in place of the word "you". We all know what it means, it's clear and not at all confusing. Hell, it even makes more sense! Why would you write, "you" when there is already a letter that makes the exact same sound? It would be like writing the word, "a" as "aye" or some thin equally ridiculous.

encouraging for the simple fact that there is little interest among the jail population. It varies from jail to jail but generally, the number of inmates interested in reforming their thought process through education is wildly lopsided with those who do not. He also has pointed out that trying to education is only masking the underlying problem which is, get this.....though and behavior. We can offer free education forever. Unless there's an interest and desire to better oneself....
