Because it wasn't the same bang for buck, as the old one. It went from offering Ferrari like performance for half the moeny, to being priced like a Ferrari and being slower than a Ferrari.
I can’t help but be sad that this car was the pride of so many engineers at Honda/ Acura, a gift to enthusiasts, and just for the sake of comparison to the old one it was rejected. It’s kinda sad :(
Why do you Think we dont have a GtR r36 yet? The Prototype of it was hated from top to bottom because “it didnt look like a Gtr” and so on.. so sad some amazing cars get rejected like this..
Why do you think revised versions of old cars like that are still being made? Because the community loved the old ones and supported both the company and the product. They better pay homage to what came before, because without it, the new version wouldn’t exist. A huge part of how these new versions can even remotely exist is purely because people love the old ones.
@@John-Wack_DK no nissan is just broke the gtr lead designer wants to make one, Nissan is strapped for cash that's why the new Z is also basically the old one underneath
To be honest, I felt like no one gave this car the respect it deserved, and so it felt like the supercar just for me. My family owned an old Acura and every time we went in for servicing I always checked out the NSX in the showroom. I love the looks, I love the technology working behind the scenes, and I loved its message. I would root for it in GT3 races and choose it every racing game. Although I'm sad to see it end its production, I'm happy that it existed and that Acura cared enough to make the type s. It'll still occupy the top of my favorite car list, and I hope that the stars will align, and I can drive it one day!
That's probably because it was a Japanese 'me too!' car that tried to keep up with Italian cars that resulted in an uninteresting, uninspired, _uninspiring_ car that was overpriced for what it was. Japanese car companies ought to stick to what they're good at: building soulless workaday grocery getter sedans.
I agree with you, this is a great car. My dad owned one of the originals back in the '90s and then one of the new ones, in 2017. He made some of the same statements you did, but he loved the fact that he could "daily drive" this car and you CANNOT do that with some of the supercars out now. The NSX is fast, and it was a ton of fun to ride in. Unfortunately, dad passed in 2020 and, since I can't drive, I don't think I'll be riding in one again any time soon, sadly. If my dad were still here I think he would agree with you about the infotainment system, but he was technology challened, but he didn't buy it for the infotainment, he bought it to drive it! RIP Pop!
I've gotta say, I'm EXTREMELY disappointed that the Doug score portion of the video has been neutered down and no longer includes Doug's thoughts and reasoning for each score given. I think that was a terrible mistake likely made for the sole purpose of an easier production for each video. I can tell you it absolutely ruins the end of each and every video for me.
Doug’s not the sharpest golf ball in the snake, but he knows his analytics. That’s why he developed an auction site instead of pushing stickers and shirts. A lot of people jump to another video halfway through the DS on older videos.
I miss the DougScore reels at the end where Doug would explain the rating decisions! It was really fun to engage with it and guess. I am hoping they come back at some point, or am at least curious to understand the decision not to do them.
@@-10 Interesting, I guess to each their own of course! But you could always skip it.. and it was regularly only a couple minutes, which relative to a 20-40 min video isn't too bad.
I usually disagree with the dougscores or the system itself so I don't really care. His system doesn't have anything accounting for price upfront and cost of ownership, which is by far the biggest factor for normal consumers.
I felt the same about the new NSX when it came out and had the exact same complaints that everyone else had to the letter. That is until I saw one in real life next to me on the highway. Needless to say I’ve been in love ever since.
As an owner of a 92 NSX, I like this version. New NSX was always nice. Interior def leaves a lot to be desired. I do think they missed an opportunity with not making a non-hybrid and manual version. Something to compete in the GTR category. Around $120k and this would’ve sold like crazy. Have the hybrid one as an option.
@@eskay6666 I guess if "the past" means becoming almost one with the car whilst driving.... I'll live there. Wouldn't trade my 99 Kaiser Targa for this car any day. They never should have named this car NSX.. I get my X serviced at the local independent Honda guru. Engine and stick shift... nothing fancy.. nothing finer. (OK a HUD and more power would be nice). I haven't driven everything, But the 1st gen NSX is an unreal "driving" experience... fancy display changes and sport mode be damned. Plus the 2nd gen looks too much like the new vette. Styling lacks... 1st gen is eternally gorgeous and unique.
@@DakTirCue this might be one of the worst comments I’ve ever seen. This car came out 3 years before the new vette 😂 you are just completely clueless and should get off of UA-cam
The issue was it’s competition at the time. It was more expensive than the Audi R8, Porsche 911, nissan GTR, and BMW i8. And outside of the i8 (which wasn’t really competing, it was doing its own thing as a fuel efficient sports car) it was slower around a track than all of them, while costing more.
It upsets me that the NSX didn't take off. I remember seeing it at the Philly auto show and thinking, "YES!! NSX!!! DUDE!!!" I only saw 1 in the wild. I chased the dude down, and when I got to him I said, "YES!! NSX!!! DUDE!!!" Hearing that there are only 2900 of them breaks my heart because that means I'll never be able to have one. I love it.
Thank god there is only so many of them out there. Id puke to see it. Imagine only being hyped for the exterior esthetics, while u get rotten inside design
This is a beautiful car, but the biggest downfall will always be the price and performance. Similar to the LFA, I think the NSX took too long to develop that by the time it hit production, it was already obsolete compared to its competitors. If the NSX was released 4 years earlier, it might have had a different turnout.
@easy-e lmao okay buddy sure how bout u just go on somewhere with your life besides a UA-cam comment section calling a kid broke who clearly stated the price is stupid high for what is it you can faster and better cars for half the price 😂🤣
Nah, it suffers from the "stunt" problem. People, unfortunately, will never see Japanese cars as anything other than ecoboxes. Rappers, influences, rich pricks, etc don't ever stunt in a lexus or a acura/honda. It's always Raris, lambos, Mclarens, Mercs, Bimmers, etc. The only ones who care about these cars are Japanese enthusiasts, and there aren't enough of them. Being seen in an NSX is whatever, being seen in a Ferrari is kewl, and matches your gucci wallet and gucci glasses and charcuterie board.
I’ll never understand why people complain about the performance. It is literally faster to 60mph than an Aventador, 488, Huracan, GTR, or R8 V10. It costs around the same as a 992 Carrera 4S which is significantly slower to 60, slower over a quarter mile, and comparable in lap time (at worst) on any track. A 2017 NSX has the straight line performance comparable to a new $380,000 Lambo Aventador for half the price, how is that poor performance or value?
@@uglyjihad but the GTR is an overpriced relic, I don’t mean to disrespect The God but for the fact that they are still selling the 15yrs old for over £100K with outdated tech and not much performance in modern standards. Godzilla will always be Godzilla but it’s over priced

A really really really really really nice Honda, is still not as great as a mediocre Ferrari.
Price was the main reason. At the time it came out it was close to a Turbo/Turbo S in price but lacked in performance compared to them. It really didn't fit anywhere in the price for performance category.
I've wanted one ever since I saw a black one in person and was absolutely floored by how much more exotic and wild it looks in real life compared to online videos
@@kalanhitchens8782 First time I've seen a C8 in Europe seeing from afar I thought that it was a Ferrari approaching. Looked really stunning to me, especially since US cars are rare in these parts.
I'm sure you're right Doug. Just like the original Nsx, they hardly flew off the shelves when it was in production. But years later people finally realized how special it is, maybe ahead of the curve. People will probably lust for this car years from now when everything is like a whisper quiet golf cart.
The original NSX sold about 1200 units per year. The new one sold about 280 per year. On average. The original was subjectively good looking but certainly a simple elegant bargain. The new one I don't think looks as good, its also complicated and expensive. I think the thing that heard it most was the fact that it's just ugly. I know that's an opinion but I think that's an opinion shared by most would be buyers.
@CalvinHikes the problem with the new nsx is that it does pretty much the same thing as what the original nsx in an era where nobody care about it anymore. The original nsx isn't even that good looking COMPARE TO IT'S COMPETITION back then, it was not fast compare to the competition back then but it offer reliability and comfortability that other supper car of the same era does not which make it as famous as it's currently. The new nsx pretty much does the same thing as it's predecessor but in an age where most supper car are already comfortable to ride, it doesn't really stand out as much. Also if we adjust for inflation, the new gen nsx is price on the same range at the old one so it's not even cheaper
people compare it to the original nsx and say it isnt the same car. NSX stands for new sports car experimental. By making it a more raw, manual car (even though a manual option would be amazing), it would go against its own name.
Honestly I won't ever understand the hate. "OMG it doesn't have a manual", yeah, because back when the NSX was originally made, that was THE performance option, now we have much more robust and high end automatics which are better fitted to fast accelerating cars like this. If they made a new mid engine, NA, manual V6, it would be more like an MR2 replacement.
I wanna say I just love your child-like enthusiasm and honesty when u started driving the car. I always thought the car was much better than they were leading us to believe. One of my favorite moments from you, Doug
@@shmayton this looks like a Civic. Everything looks like a Civic. You look like a Civic. The Civic looks like a Civic. The Integra looks like a Civic. Seriously though, does a two-door mid-engine supercar look like a compact car milked by ricers to you?
I think the NSX's biggest issue is that anyone with a quarter million dollars to spend on a sports car wasn't going to spend it on an Acura. The car just doesn't compete with the 488 and the Huracan. The old NSX was priced to pull customers away from the Corvette ZR-1 and base Porsche 911. It just isn't on the level of the exotics in its price range.
Agreed. If I had $160-200k to spend on a car I'd have a hard time spending it on an Acura. Like you said they should have aimed for a Corvette price range if they really wanted it to take off.
@@ChuckisNorrish it's not about the performance that this car lacks. It's the prestige. Not prestige to car enthusiasts who know a good car when they see one. Prestige to other wealth-off people who see the Acura name as lower tier than the other luxury names. One of my best friends has a 2017 NSX; its one of the greatest cars I've had the pleasure of driving. More nimble than my 2016 Cali T. I grew up in the 90s so the original NSX is my Unicorn. Definitely an underrated car in all it's iterations.
As others have stated, I think it was a combination of price plus legacy that smothered this car from the outset. The Grand Tour review was fairly telling when, despite the tech and cost, it was basically on par with the R35 GTR, which obviously isn't anything to scoff at, but when you factor in that the NSX also costs around $40-50K more, it becomes a difficult sell. Then there's the legacy aspect, the first gen NSX was a simple driver's car that focused on being "budget friendly" with racing pedigree to boot, as opposed to a hybrid supercar which made it seem overtly complex and that Honda was caught chasing trends instead of doing their own thing as they did with the first gen.
They were part of the trend push. One more expensive ugly hybrid after a run of other cheaper ugly hybrids. Honda and the rest of the Japanese car companies just couldn’t help themselves out of their Ugly & Slow competition they had with one another.
the nsx costs 80k more than the gtr... for 80k i can get a new supra on top of that. or the downpayment of a new home.. i think the nsx was massively overcosted for what it delivered.
Blah blah blah. How much is a Nismo GT-R? $200K and now some over $300K. Stop comparing a base GT-R MSRP of $110K to a hybrid supercar. They're not in the same category despite similar performance.
@@ELECTRICEYEMEDIA The problem is, that the NSX isn't comparable to Italian and German supercars. A person who wants an exotic supercar isn't even going to consider a Honda or "Acura", they're going to go for a Ferrari, Lamborghini, Pagani, Porsche etc. So that leaves things like the GT-R as an actual competitor. And for somebody who isn't simply after an exotic supercar, things like handling, performance, value for money, tuneability etc, is going to be more important than whether or not it "should" be compared to exotics.
I have to say I agree with Doug. I have driven a Gen 2 NSX, R8 and been a passenger in a Huracan. The styling is great, it handles just short of those cars. The infotainment systems aren't comparable and of course the roar of those V10s are undeniable. That said, this is not a good car, this is a great car. It's a lot faster than you think once you get behind the wheel. I can imagine the Type S just makes everything better.
The infotainment system should be one's last concern, this thing is made to be driven hard. Also, thank god they didn't include adaptive cruise control, I find it to be rather annoying, albeit dangerous in some situations
yeah, but why would I even consider this car when the C8 exists? Don’t say reliability because I’m not going to accept that an LS is less reliable than a hybrid system from Honda.
I think its a nice car. Amazing styling, good power and as reliable as a Honda. Probably one of the best daily supercars out there. I love the OG NSX but I can't see why this car has so much controversy just because it doesn't have a manual or less analog feel. There's probably a few reasons why that had to be like maybe they couldn't find a reliable manual gearbox that can handle the power and for the less analog feel, you have to remember that we can't always dwell in the past. Anyways, that's what i think. Edit: Good discussions. Love this community
Amazing styling? Obviously this is subjective, but styling is the primary reason these don't sell. I've seen one in person, and it just doesn't look "$200k", maybe half that at most. Certainly not "beautiful" like so many of the italian competitors are. Aside from not looking that good, it's also just not interesting to look at. Quick glance and walked on, no pictures.
@@poppachoppa8956 The Mclaren Artura is a V6 hybrid supercar for more money, the Ferrari 296 GTB is another v6 hybrid supercar for way more money, sorry but your argument is just not all that valid
I think it just looks plain. It's indistinguishable compared to the C8 Vette, Aston, McLarens, etc. They're all cool and perform well. But they "look the same." The OG NSX had a very unique look that set it apart.
I was a valet attendant at a really nice hotel and have driven basically every exotic car, the Acura nsx was my all time favorite! There is just something about it that made it so much fun!
I concur with Doug, I think these cars are great, I just think they pulled a "horizon zero dawn" and released the new NSX during a flurry of supercar buzz, what with the huracan being new at the time, I believe an updated 488 was coming, and mclaren was really getting ramped up at the time prior to the 720. That, and we were still all particularly incensed about hybrid/electric stuff still. FWIW, I don't think this car disrespects it's legacy at all, and I'm a honda guy. The original NSX is hailed as an incredible analogue driver's experience, which it is, but that's only from the relative viewpoint of our power-everything crossover world today. Back when the NSX was new, it probably seemed like just as much of a spaceship, computer-on-wheels type car as this one seems to us. Hell, NSX stands for "New Sportscar, eXperimental." So we know they weren't going for something traditional. I think the legacy of the car is exactly experimentation with technology.
@@f181234 yeah, and that's great, until you realize that it's main competition was Breath of the Wild, one of the most beloved games of the last 20 years. Sad to see the end of the line for the NSX Gen 2; here’s to hoping the talented engineers who worked on this project have been reassigned to a S2000 Gen 2!🤞
There, upsettingly, already is a gen 3 S2000. It's the S660, a mid-engine kei car making 63 horsepower as a successor to the S2k and Honda Beat. The S2k is probably dead, very sadly
A new hardtop S2k would absolutely have my buy. Especially if it still revs high and has a manual option like the old ones. I don't even like convertibles, but a high-revving RWD roadster, at that price, with Honda reliability... it would be like a motorcycle on four wheels. Sadly, I'm not sure there's many folks like me out there- at least, not enough to make it worthwhile for Honda to bring it back. And I'm not optimistic about finding a used S2k in good condition.
I currently have a 10th gen si but if they ever release a new s2k it would be an auto buy for me lol. eyeing the 11th gen ctr though once this baby is payed off
@Omora but it will sell extremely well like hot cakes! The NC and ND miata sold very well... same as the evolution X and Subaru STI's... and the overrated gt86... so if it came it out will be very good. Emissions are annoying ik that for sure especially in the motorcycle world. But we get around that by tuning and mapping and taking out restrictions. 200+hp and 170kg.... that beats 1000hp cars 😃😇
This car has always been on my buy list when I win lots of money. It took too long in development. In Australia they are still Hondas. The original NSX is still a desirable car too.
I've always loved the styling of this car, and the specs are great, but my preference is an analog feel to a sports car. Though this will undoubtedly be worth a ton someday, Acura missed the mark on what their customer base truly desired. (Just like with the new "Integra.")
I dont get why this would be desirable in the future. When all things go electric i would assume that whatever is furthest from that will be most desirable, not some old tech hybrid-v6 automatic. I think these will age like fine milk.
As an owner of a '95 Integra SE with nearly 300,000 miles and virtually no mechanical problems, I was excited about the new "Integra." Now, the more I find out about it, I'm really disappointed. I'm also the owner of a 2003 Honda Civic Si with nearly 300,000 miles on it and, again, virtually no mechanical problems. C'mon, Honda/Acura! We expect more from a new Integra than we can get from the Canadian Civic Si! This is not a worthy successor to any Integra. Who are you fooling, besides yourself?

So I have a good bit of driving experience with the older and new NSXs, they are very good driving machines, the older ones especially. The new ones felt a bit numb because everything is electronic, even the brakes, but were incredible to drive for sure. The problem with this type s is they made a mistake only doing 300, the body upgrades over the 2017-2021 models are great, but the performance upgrades are still very limited on these. But the biggest issue to me is the interior, it is no better than a TLX, and the price is a major letdown.
Exactly, I just see Honda everywhere, they really need to change up their design language. The ford GT has almost no interior or exterior resemblance to “fords” design language.
Haven't driven this one but I have driven the old one. The original Acura NSX also had the same parts bin interior fittings...this is a car that's drivetrain technologically comparable to a 918, the P1, and the LaFerrari - sure it's not as fast as those 3 but I felt Acura was trying to show that the kind of tech in those drive drains and chassis can be done for less...and I think from that perspective they nailed it... I think this NSX
Their NSX like the old one will be under appreciated when on sale by the volumes the sold at but will be loved in the aftermarket once they are long gone
I’ve always thought it was one of the best looking super cars out there, yeah people complain that some of the interior finishes aren’t up to par but everyone who drives it likes it. They said it already sold out as soon as they made it available to order.
However a lot of the Italians interiors are cheaply put together but they use an excuse for it. Hard jarring ride. Audi interior is ugly they never mention it.
The NSX is supposed to be the "new sportscar experimental." making a tribute car would not have lived up to the name. I think a tribute definitely would have been better received, but it's not true to the brand like what they built is.
I agree. The purpose of the nsx is innovation and experimentation. It did so at the time of the original nsx and by just doing the same thing again it wouldn’t have lived up to its namesake. If people got what they “wanted” which is a old school an engine with a manual transmission then there wouldn’t be anything new or experimental about the car. It would just be old and traditional. Times have changed and so has technology. Many of the vocal car enthusiast on the internet seem to be stuck in the past and anything new or innovative is heresy and dogma. It’s odd because tech enthusiasts on the other hand are fanatic about the bleeding edge and rarely would you have someone wish they made computers like the amigas or commodores of the 80s. I like the new nsx and I do think the price was a bit much. But I am also able to understand that Honda was trying to bring technology seen in 700k+ supercars downstream and down market. As far as I know there is not another car that is like the modern nsx.
This thing looks menacing, very aggressive like Doug said. It also has some practicality with the larger trunk space, and the interior is very luxurious
I don't understand why people don't like it. 😥 I absolutely love it. One of the best cars to be made in the last decade. If I had the money, that'd be one of the first cars I bought.

As a former Acura salesman, current and multi Acura owner--my challenge with the car is it looks like other cars to me. The C8 especially. When I see a Porsche, I know it's a Porsche. I agree with Doug that the info system is way out of date. In regard to it going up in value...that I can see. Just look at the original early to mid 90's NSX's. They listed for $65-75K. 10-15 years ago you could've got a nice one with under 50K miles on it for in the $30's...not any more. They are double and triple that from what I've seen. I just with it had a manual transmission. I have paddle shifting now and never use it.
@@WolfiiHD I do know that. Not sure that it matters which came first. I agree. In 2016 I bought a Honda VFR800F (motorbike) at my local Honda dealer in Duesseldorf - he was and is the biggest Honda dealer in Germany. The then-new NSX was on display there, painted blue. Sorry, but it looked ordinary. Over the months I saw one in red, then one in sort-of-white parked there. They didn't appeal to me. However, my girlfriend really liked the looks. As much as people are paying up for the “old” NSX’s now I remember they didn’t sell well back in the day either. When I bought my 1999 Acura TL, I was looking as some of the Integras and other cars. If I remember correctly, they had 2 NSX’s that were languishing on the showroom for like 18 months. This was around Dallas so it’s not like it was a small market and they were even being heavily discounted. It’s such a shame as they were amazing cars. It was the same way with Mk 4 Supras. I’m old enough to remember a local Toyota dealer having like 3 of them on the lot. My Nissan dealer had a beautiful green final year 1996 300ZX TT they didn’t actually move until 1999.
exactly its always the people who are not even shopping for the car complaining.. but 20 years from now these will still be in the 60k and up value for the base.. good luck getting a type s.. just like how the old nsx.. the lowest i ever saw it got to was 20k.. now their all over 50k.. as soon as the all electric nsx comes out.. these same people will be crying "its not as good as the old one! bring back the hybrid"
Exactly. People see the old NSX with rose-colored glasses, but in reality it suffered the same problems the current gen has. I remember reading car guides at the time and they all mentioned that the days of the NSX were numbered because they simply weren't selling. Same for the price, everybody complained that it was too expensive and that for the money you could get a 911. Well now it's the same for the current one.
I'm also old enough to remember the 90's, playing Gran Turismo and being a huge fan of all these Japanese performance cars. I always wanted to see an NSX in real life but no dealer had one over here. The car was super expensive and nobody talked about it. You could basically only get it if you asked for it and ordered one. That makes it a very special car in my book and that's why it deserves that high price tag now.
Hey Doug, do you think the NSX would go down on the route of LFA,unappreciated at first then really cared by enthusiasts? Edit: He actually answered in the video The answer is “yes”
no, the LFA is the best sounding car ever made and uses a V10 and offers a raw driving experiance. The NSX is a tech experiment and doesn’t really offer anything interesting.
@skkss this nsx was affordable hybrid super car and its funny because more of those are available now and people are buying them even the 911 is getting a hybrid
I actually always liked this one over the old one. I liked the old one before this one came out… but this one took the name to another level when this generation came out. The power train is amazing
@grand nagus But people will pay $500k for a Toyota supercar? $200k for a Nissan? $150k for a Chevy? No way you think Nissan builds better cars than Honda LOL
I love the engineering that went into these cars, if you look at the rivals it has, it is far and away the most reliable, most usable and I dare say most fun (After all it's expensive but it's not Ferrari expensive). If you were to look for a pound for pound competitor to the NSX and this Type S variant you'd likely end up looking at Mclaren and almost double the pricetag. If I had the money, I'd already be happily in search of twisty roads to go play with it on!!
Any manual Porsche or even a Corvette for 60k would be more fun than any Honda Hybrid at 200k. Also you cant say a car is "reliable" when no even 1 NSX has more than 100k miles.
@@ToyotaAristo I appreciate your insights, but disagree. I'm disabled, my right leg amputated below the knee and it is much easier to convert an existing automatic transmission than a manual. I've also owned two front engined Porsches over the years and loved them both (924 and 944s) I really like the design of this NSX as well as the engineering involved in creating it. If you're one of those folks who determine that no sports cars can be automatics I suggest a trip to a Jaguar dealer and find an old Jaguar XKR with a whack of miles o the clock and tell me it isn't a sports car, or at very least one hell of a GT car.
In your specific case certainly an automatic is better. Still a Porsche is the better and more fun car overall imo, for that price you can get a NA engine wich is a masterpiece with only 4.0 liters and over 500hp with manual or PDK. For me there isn't a Japanese car today that is more fun than that despite you choose manual or automatic there isn't for me. Or go budget and pick up the Corvette. For me it doesn't make sense the new nsx. But if you like the nsx i totally respect it.
@@ToyotaAristo It's a dividing car isn't it. I likely could never justify the price when like you say a PDK Porsche is infinitely more livable (And I am partial to the older Caymans with the 3.4L) but at heart I'm an engineering nut and there is just so much to geek out over with the NSX. Doug… as the owner of a 2017 NSX (chassis #0131), I would like to thank you VERY much for: a) helping to boost my car’s re-sale value, and b) helping get the car the respect it deserves. I have owned my NSX for 18 months and put 10,000km on it. I agree with almost everything Doug said. It is EXTREMELY fast in a straight line, handles very well but a handful at the limit, infotainment is garbage (although functional), it’s super comfortable and usable as a daily… but most importantly it’s gorgeous. Every time I drive it people approach and compliment it or take pics when I drive by. The badge may be less “showy” and “prestige” than a Lambo or Ferrari but the car is definitely not. It’s a great car with a couple of major flaws that you can absolutely live with. I plan to put at least 40-50,000 kms on mine with zero concerns about reliability or maintenance and it’ll still look modern and beautiful in 2026.
I’ve always liked this car. I get why one would choose more competitive, similarly priced super cars over this, but price aside it’s objectively a good car.
Same. It’s just too bad the price and the badge. hinders people from buying one. For such an expensive car, no matter the looks and performance, it’s still a Honda. That is a huge turn off
Be nice If Honda would have consulted with a couple Ferrari engineers and let Them tinker around with the whole thing. While maintaining the Honda DNA.

Great review. Tbh, Doug you are above the game. Trust me on this. I've been following Motor Trend for over 8 years now and at the end of the day, it's just another show for the masses. Your reviews are right on the money. NXS is a pure beauty. I always liked it. Take care.
It's just too bad they overpriced this the way they did... I realize the tech, but coming off an older nameplate that exemplified performance for the dollar (originally anyway), I think people wanted this to be cheaper. Even if, it meant lessening the tech.
Hey Doug, This is the homologated version of their IMSA GT3 race car buddy. Twin Turbo/ AWD/ Carbon ceramic brakes/ torque vector ready for track days! Driver's of the TYPE-S are tapping the paddles and banging thru the gears in Track mode, pushing the AWD to the edge of envelope and NOT paying attention to the stereo UI, low-res back-up cam or GPS avatar. Just connect via bluetooth + USB Audio Pro App and voila - voice control infotainment and App that handles even FLAC and ALAC files. Drive the damn thing!
Seen this car at Lindsey Acura when I was getting my car serviced. They had this one, the 2017, and the 2005. I think people don’t like it because the cost, time it came out, and technology of the car. I didn’t know how rare these are till now.
I agree with you, Doug. Since I saw it, I didn't like the look at first and now I really think it's striking. Gorgeous and functional and yet daily usable. Plus that Honda reliability backs it up and that's where these cars really shine.
Don’t forget the cheap Honda interior you’re getting for $170k+. Most cars in this price range have a much more modern and luxurious interior and still offer super car speed.

This car with it's limited production was literally sold out within days. Acura had double amount of orders than the units they planned to produce, so if you want one, you would have to pry it out of someone else's hands and possibly pay handsomely for it. This is definitely a car I would want to have in my car collection.
As Doug goes through the NSX type S specific appearance changes, we should pay attention since many of them may appear on other Type S models in subsequent model years. I would not be surprised if the black badges start appearing on other models.
I will own one of these before they become retro collectibles and prices go up. One day. I don’t know why people didn’t dig this car. The perfect combo of hybrid technology and looks with minimal and cheap maintenance at any place that services Acura/Honda

@@KekusMagnus nice try, actually the LFA wasn’t always great. It finished almost dead last in MT Best Drivers Car and had mediocre reviews across the board. Other than it’s amazing engine it was a pretty unremarkable car. It’s biggest drawback was its transmission which was horribly out dated by the time the car launched.
They probably would have sold a lot more if the new NSX was like this from the start. It always fell right in that grey area of sport/super cars where it was too expensive for an average joe to buy, but it wasn't fancy or sport enough for the big spenders to want to invest in (not to mention it was a super car that actually depreciated in value). Had they made it like this right from go, it probably would have been more successful.
It guaranteed would have sold a lot more if it followed the original nsx's moniker, super car performance for a fraction of the cost. Quite literally the same as the R35 gtr.... When it started. But now Godzilla has ballooned from a $70k car to over $200k. Which is fuckin ridiculous.
Its not a Type R because the Type R line is reserved for stripped out track performance. Type S is for higher performance/luxury trim. (Honda also uses the Type S badge) For it to be a Type R they'd be stripping out weight, stiffening the suspension and chassis, and make it focused purely on lap times. They clearly haven't done that with this car.
One of my all time favs. It just looks cool, not as artsy like the Italians, maybe a bit wanna be, but it's got the balls to back it up. I don't think people really understand how fast 0-60 in 2.9 seconds really is. I'll clue u in: it's fucking scary.
I really like this car. The look is so modern it looks like it was released yesterday. I think the car was wronged by the nostalgia of the previous model. This car was a very important study, bringing various technologies that are in many cars today and this visual language used until today by Acura and Honda.
I think the NSX is a perfect example of what honda and Acura have always represented. Their trademark practical, reliable, daily drivers. If you have ever owned old and new ones this is no exception. They've also been great about listening to the community and making real changes based on feedback. (To a fault even, look at the 11th gen civic 🤮) Just saying, I would buy this if I had a cool 200k sitting around. I'd venture to bet cost-of-owning would also be MUCH lower compared to other cars in its class.
I'd have thought that the top of the range, performance version would be the Type R. What made the original NSX legendary was it performed as well as the supercars of the day but cost half the price. That's a tough formula to replicate today.
Long before the end of its lifespan, the NSX got hideously expensive. I remember a former Acura employee telling me they had a 2000 NSX at the dealer for more than 2 years because nobody bought them, no one was willing to pay $90K for an Acura back then.
It's pretty sad that this car received so much hate since it first debuted, so it was really a cool thing when you were one of the only ones that denfended it and I'm glad you still enjoy the car despite the hte you got, I remember when videos were made in response to that video
What Honda failed to realize is at the time of the original NSX, the established brands were plagued with poor workmanship, quality control issues, and generally too fragile to be enjoyed. The NSX had the supercar looks and relatively powerful V6. It was quick, had superb handling. It was an analogue masterpiece. The modern NSX competes with the established brands that aren't fragile, have good quality control, and give a better driver experience. The NSX sounds horrible. You have to make unorthodox compromises.
The front bumper of this car is such a big upgrade from the previous model, it actually looks like a jet fighter like the OG NSX was aimed to be, cudos on Honda for changing it rather than making it look like any other ACURA
I was coming of automotive age when the original NSX hit the market and I watched it from its beginning to the very end as prices went up and sales went down as the competition kicked its backside pretty badly. From the moment the new Model (finally) arrived, it had more in common with the original than people wanted to notice. Is it still a understated supercar with everyday car reliability? YES. Is it still not as fast around the track, pretentious or loud as its immediate rivals? YES. Is it somewhat old-school in area's, while being cutting edge in the area's that matters most? YES. Will it be a future classic? undoubtedly. Its not easy to design something timeless from the start since inspired thought beyond paint color and exhaust note (GM and Ford) takes alot of effort to not make it the equivalent of rolling pop culture with a predetermined design appeal life. Fortunately, the NSX got the attention it needed before it went into production assuring its place in the future.
I think that in the future people are indeed going to be changing their minds about this car. Just like with the Lexus LFA. A well built, fun driving, and fast supercar.
This was one of the first hybrids supercars, that all the big names copied, the original NSX didn't sell well either and took time to become desirable. Would have done better if it was thought of as originating in Japan rather than the US to be honest.
That's why the NSX sucks: Made in USA. The interior is total trash, with hard plastic everywhere. If it's the everyday supercar, why are the everyday items so terrible? Confusing climate controls, hard-to-reach USB ports, 1990s navigation system and backup camera, missing integrated cup holders, and no driver assist technologies. This car is a joke. Americans can't design a proper supercar.
@@iu2 I've not sat in one, sounds awful. Will Honda ever repeat that period starting with the CRX and ending with the S2000? I looked at their current line up and found nothing of interest in the slightest/

@grand nagus you asked why a guy who looks like him is reviewing supercars. My reply was me essentially telling you dont judge a book by its cover. Though, to actually answer your question, it's a part of his job to review cars here on youtube.
I have always loved the NSX, including this generation, which I think looks amazing. Honestly, I'll never be able to afford one, but this car appeals to me because it's a more affordable and reliable option for a supercar. My finances are limited, so even if I could afford to buy (finance) an exotic car, I couldn't afford to maintain it, too. So a high end car like this that I could daily drive and which won't also cost me an arm and a leg to maintain is a huge bonus. Again, this is way out of my price range, but I still love the idea of a more affordable/reliable supercar, or whatever you want to call it.
@Roberto Vidal Garcia it's a 200k super car everything is going to cost money. "it's not reliable" no shit you probably can't even afford it or let alone come up with the money it would cost to replace just the brakes. people buying this car have the money to make repairs and maintain it.
@Roberto Vidal Garcia it's like trying to say a Maybach isn't a good choice because it's not "reliable" when anyone who can actually afford one doesn't give fuck about how much it costs to maintain
The 2nd gen NSX is so underrated in the community that I almost forgot that it's faster than a gtr and more nimble than the 458. I don't care if the cabin looks sh%t to you. It's still a $100K+ elegant supercar worth flexing with, though not as fast as the 911 turbo s.
Personally, I would love to own this even if it's expensive for what it is. I'd rather have a unique car that's fast then something everybody else has and just be another one in the pack. Give me the type-s press car spec and I'd be very happy.
The Acura NSX Type S is really a great and reliable car, easy to understand both in the interior and exterior , storage is great than what i see in other sportscars and true it might not be highly recommendable on the market now but probably some years within the future. Each car company around the world really put their hearts out to make both supercars and hypercars come out amazingly good so we should respect the hardwork they do on different model cars.
I’ll never understand how this good looking, high performance super car was ever “controversial” to anyone, it seems like a great value
Agreed
Good looking? Did you skip interior of the car? Its plastic and crap
Because it wasn't the same bang for buck, as the old one.
It went from offering Ferrari like performance for half the moeny, to being priced like a Ferrari and being slower than a Ferrari.
you can get a 911 GT3, 911 Turbo or Audi R8 for around the same price. All of which are far better cars overall. That’s the problem.
A mini 918 Spyder. Not a bad thing.
IKR?
Why do you think revised versions of old cars like that are still being made? Because the community loved the old ones and supported both the company and the product. They better pay homage to what came before, because without it, the new version wouldn’t exist. A huge part of how these new versions can even remotely exist is purely because people love the old ones.

This is a beautiful car, but the biggest downfall will always be the price and performance.
@easy-e ever heard about importing?

Well, they were chasing the trends of the times even with the first NSX, luckily for them those trends were better than today's.
@@giovannicazares3110 I would prefer the type S. The GTR doesnt do it for me aesthetically.

Amazing styling? Obviously this is subjective, but styling is the primary reason these don't sell. I've seen one in person, and it just doesn't look "$200k", maybe half that at most.

The new ones felt a bit numb because everything is electronic, even the brakes, but were incredible to drive for sure. The problem with this type s is they made a mistake only doing 300, the body upgrades over the 2017-2021 models are great, but the performance upgrades are still very limited on these.

Great review. Tbh, Doug you are above the game. Trust me on this. I've been following Motor Trend for over 8 years now and at the end of the day, it's just another show for the masses. Your reviews are right on the money. NXS is a pure beauty. I always liked it. Take care.

I own a NSX.. And I'm glad I have one of the rarest Supercars out there! Your review is spot on bro! 🙌🏾
Nice
Sweet, I absolutely love this NSX.
@james randy working on it bro!
Your car looks awesome!
@@sswildlifevideos appreciate it 🙏🏾
It's just too bad they overpriced this the way they did... I realize the tech, but coming off an older nameplate that exemplified performance for the dollar (originally anyway), I think people wanted this to be cheaper. Even if, it meant lessening the tech.
Agreed, a lower priced non hybrid rwd model would've been nice.
@@zbrembo absolutely
This car was a discount. Look at all the tech. All other competitors is over 1 million dollars. And it does everything

He's just trying to double down on its earlier 2015 review. Because he got it wrong then (and now).

This car with it's limited production was literally sold out within days. Acura had double amount of orders than the units they planned to produce, so if you want one, you would have to pry it out of someone else's hands and possibly pay handsomely for it. This is definitely a car I would want to have in my car collection.
Yep and they will go north of $300K quickly.
Hold on to these gems.......will triple or quadruple in values in a few yrs.......trust me.......Doug says so
As Doug goes through the NSX type S specific appearance changes, we should pay attention since many of them may appear on other Type S models in subsequent model years. I would not be surprised if the black badges start appearing on other models.
Bring back the in depth Doug score! People who complain about it "taking too long" drive automatic transmissions and can't be trusted.

I will own one of these before they become retro collectibles and prices go up. One day. I don’t know why people didn’t dig this car. The perfect combo of hybrid technology and looks with minimal and cheap maintenance at any place that services Acura/Honda
Prior to the pandemic, I was checking to see if the price had finally dipped below $100k, it was getting close. I was genuinely considering picking one up, but now it seems it will be more difficult
@@-SP. understandable, going forward however, seeing as this is discontinued and eventually when this market calms down (recession or whatever happens). It still will be under appreciated and overlooked. Hopefully snag one up before the future sets in and cars like this become unicorns. High performance, easy maintenance, internal combustion w/ hybrid. It will be an iconic car one day
At least for me
your head movement is getting more intense than ever and I love it.
I’ve seen two of these in person. Looked really sporty and exotic and definitely had that “presence” I really never understood the hate.
When the NSX production ends in few weeks, people will realize how good it was and start to appreciate it. It'll be like the LFA all over again.
but the NSX isn't all that good
the LFA was always great, it was just too expensive. This is just boring
@@jameswillard1 way to prove to everyone that sports cars are more than their instrumented testing numbers.
@@cwx8 not sure how I did that 🤔but you’re welcome
I just love seeing Doug drive the I-5 in San Diego zooming past the Mormon tabernacle in a supercar!
Its not a Type R because the Type R line is reserved for stripped out track performance. Type S is for higher performance/luxury trim. (Honda also uses the Type S badge)
For it to be a Type R they'd be stripping out weight, stiffening the suspension and chassis, and make it focused purely on lap times.

You have to make unorthodox compromises.
agree, and the original did well at the Bathurst race here in Oz.
The front bumper of this car is such a big upgrade from the previous model, it actually looks like a jet fighter like the OG NSX was aimed to be, cudos on Honda for changing it rather than making it look like any other ACURA
A little fun fact. #22 was delivered in Oklahoma City on 2/2/22 at 2:30pm
The new gen NSX has been my dream car since I saw one
It always amazes me how people get personally offended when somebody disagrees with their opinion about something (hence the inspiration for my UA-cam name). As if you thinking the NSX is a good driving car is somehow an insult to them
Genuinely one of my favorite cars style wise. I really wish I could at least test drive and see one in person. I usually don’t care for anything that fits under “super car” but damn it looks fantastic. I really hope I can see one in person some day.
When I’m successful this would be my dream super car.
Out of all the super cars, this is probably the most “daily driver” of them all.
The R8 has been given that title multiple times and I’ve personally seen more R8’s daily driven than the NSX
According to this video this is as daily driver as a wheelbarrow
…but why tho?
C8 Z06 comes out soon, regular C8 is 1/2 the price
Plenty of 911 models to choose from
R8 with that incredible V10 is much cheaper
Ferrari Roma isn’t much more
I’d much, much rather have a new Z06 or R8 than this. I never understood the hate but at this price? Nope, there’s just no way this is the most daily driver super car IMO.
@@paulwilliams667 Base C8 isn’t a supercar, Zo6 isn’t a better daily, and the 911s that are supercars aren’t better daily’s. The R8 is probably a better daily supercar.
@@cm-15 How exactly would you or I know the Z06 isn't a better daily when it's not been released yet? I'd still rather have it for the engine alone personally.
If you think the 911 turbo/ turbo S isn't a better daily... idk what to tell you man.
Honestly one of my dream cars. Good looks, good sound, good performance and just a rare car in general.
@grand nagus well the man is a millionaire so it makes sense to me
@grand nagus you asked why a guy who looks like him is reviewing supercars. My reply was me essentially telling you dont judge a book by its cover. Though, to actually answer your question, it's a part of his job to review cars here on youtube.
@grand nagus regardless, it was a dumb question going at the way he dresses. Really was no need commenting here at all.
One of my dream cars as well, the mighty NSX. I absolutely must drive this Type S version.

Absolutely loved it back in 2017 and still do. If I were to get a super car it would be an nsx. Not to mention, you can fit golf clubs in the back.
Wish I had the money. Absolutely love the cars and the way they look.
Looks beautiful in this spec. If I was rich I’d be very tempted, but would still be very tough to pick this over a 911 Turbo S
Honda= reliability
@@prasannaik8604 911 is probably more reliable
@@kristians2704 dude u should do research....honda cars are lik tanks...
You can never go wrong with doug, i have always thought the same about this car and im glad me and doug always shared the same opinion
This car is the most extreme example of brand price markup I've ever seen.
The storage is Okay, but it's Far Behind a C8 Corvette or even a Porsche 911.
