The car will shift out of m1 super fast though on its own, without you doing it via the paddles and while it felt disappointing at first, after a few stops I realized m1 gear is super short and m2 feels like a normal first gear anyway, so yea while Acura has some safeguards built into this car like m1 gear and auto up shift at redline even in manual mode at all gears, it’s not that big a deal, this is not a 1/4 mile car, this is a spirited sedan that shines in the twisties and on the highway. @@mikeb7258The ITS has less power and the manual defeats you. The TLX torque is linear from 1500 rpms up to redline. I've run an ITS and he couldn't do anything. I was leaving him on everything.

@@matthowell8985 not really, my favorite car in this class, the w205 C43 was more expensive with similar options. The S4 is only better in a straight line and the M340i is also more expensive.
This car does everything good but nothing great. And it looks good doing it. Thats what makes it appealing for the money. Yes you can get a BMW pay about 10k more and be faster. But then reliability becomes an issue. The Genesis would be the closest but it leans a little more on the softer side.
These are great daily cars, but won’t respond well to tune for more power. Acura designed this engine to have boost at low rpm and keep it all the way to 6k. They achieve it with small port heads, small intake runners and a small turbo which makes power instantly. That way you don’t feel lag. The problem is getting more than 400hp out of this. You would need to change the heads, intake, and turbo. Then crack the codes to tune past 6k rpm to allow more power. Now the problem is 10 speed. It’s not a performance transmission. Many have had issues with them. Don’t keep launching it or it will pop. Some have popped axles in these too. So this is a perfect daily for someone who is happy with the power and stock tuning. It makes power at all rpm’s. That’s what makes it a great daily. It’s never lagging. So it’s a huge trade off Acura made to get instant gratification and have reliability too. My biggest gripe is it shifts at 6k even in manual. So it makes an awful track car. It’s a huge weak link. It also won’t shift into first gear because the transmission will grenade. It’s not a performance transmission. Acura chose this transmission because it was cheap for them to build in house. It’s all profit. So they add protection so it lasts. So no downshifting into first and no revving past 6k.
@@drivescene6747Not sure why it bothers you. I’m sharing my knowledge with others so they know what this car is. That way they don’t think they are gonna tune it and expect 100 hp instantly. It’s not gonna happen. This engine was designed for instant power at low rpm for that instant gratification. That’s a great thing for a daily driver. Transmission is also in sync with engine as it stays in boost throughout the whole rev range. Problem with large turbo and large port heads is it’s dead under 3500 rpm. You need to rev past that to have power. The good thing is you can make power till 7500 plus. So you have that 4k rpm operating range of power. Big turbo will give massive hp gains within that range. Acura went a safer approach for daily driving fun. Small ports, small turbo making instant power from 1500rpm to 6k. You are still getting your 4k operating rev range of power, just at a safer and more instant way. Problem is it’s capped out due to small ports and turbo. So it’s a huge trade off. But this setup makes for an amazing daily car. Always has power. No waiting for turbo to spool up. It’s clever how Acura did it. The AWD puts the power down perfectly.
@@ryanb8736 that’s just the thing, that’s not entirely accurate. You’re saying that guys are struggling to get over 400hp out of this, which is just not the case. A simple tune from ktuner is 52whp and 100ft/lbs of torque. The platform is still somewhat new so more tuneability is still being tested in order for these tuners to sell reliable packages. It’s not that the platform can’t handle the power, it’s due to tunes not being available. As I have mentioned to you previously, there are many guys running over 400hp with ktuner and there is one guy so far in the 500hp range running 11s in the 1/4 mile.
With destination and comparably equipped, the M340i xDrive is about $70K. You used to be able to get the TLX Type S for ~$56K with the wheel package. They've since increased the price. Still a good deal, however.
As it should be considering the higher cost, comparably equipped. The TLX Type-S is so much more distinct on the road and has all the power and performance that is actually usable on the road.
I think the last gen tlx was better looking. Woulda been nice to see that gen with 350hp. This thing doesn't look bad but not a fan. It's also too heavy for just 350hp (300 wheel). A letdown to the type s badge if you ask me. So much less performance than competitors at same price range and less.

The car is very fun to drive with great creature comforts and audio.
100 percent can switch to m1 must be at complete stop, computer won’t let u to switch to a lower gear if it’s not supposed to be there comfortably.
That being said 1st gear is extremely short, if ur getting max torque at 1500 rpm’s and there’s 10 gears, do the math…not much room in the first two gears
Does it feel fast or does the weight make this car feel sluggish?
Feels quick and torquey under 80 mph.
@RoadsUntraveled I would describe the feel as very smooth, confident, and effortless.
At one point in time youd have to buy a BMW m5 to get that kinda power
Yeah in 1996 😂
@@chrisscheidegger8059 you're telling me you wouldn't want to own an e39 m5?
Was not the RLX Hybrid faster?
I have my rlx sh '18, and test drove type s.... 2018-2020 RLX SH ANY DAY ANY TIME over type S... It is not worth paying 60k for 4.6sec to 60moh in crammed can of compact sedan size vehicle
There’s a problem with the title to this video:
TLX-S = 11.9 pounds per horsepower
ITS = 10 pounds per horsepower
The ITS will easily pull ahead of a TLX-S on a roll. You can’t argue with math and basic physics.
You can't until you have to shift gears yourself
@@mikeb7258The ITS has less power and the manual defeats you. The TLX torque is linear from 1500 rpms up to redline. I've run an ITS and he couldn't do anything. I was leaving him on everything.
@@MikeYurbasovich The TLX-S and the ITS have the same 1/4mile trap speed of 105 mph. If the TLX -S was truly faster on a roll, then it would have a higher trap than the ITS. The fact that the traps are the same proves that the ITS closes the gap on a roll and will eventually pass the TLX-S with enough runway.
@@mikeb7258 That makes sense to me, but then I wonder why that ITS seemed slower to me? I spent a good 10 minutes screwing around with that guy through twisties, dead stops, and open road.
Anyway, I like that car too.
@@MikeYurbasovich Maybe he was a novice with a manual. The TLX-S is a great car. I only got rid of mine because it got damaged.
It is a look that will probably grow on you. But this new style is so weird at first glance. Alot of cross branding copy. Like the hellcat spoiler, Toyota slit and edge and curve everywhere. Only thing i like is the interior.
I got a 2023 😅 thinking about trading in for a 24 😂
You’re a finance managers wet dream
The G70 is really the car this compares against price wise in the segment. Objectively, the G70 wins in pretty much every category.
Perfect car if you wanna spend big but have no interest in bragging to others. This is a car for "me" only
do you work for honda? it’s slow, RLX hybrid is faster
terrible biased
I’ve only heard of cylinder deactivation in CA- is that also true for US?
Too bad it weighs as much as the Titanic.
The type s has about 80hp/cylinder or 157hp/L, and this car is about 100hp/L. So inefficient. And my Acura drives the trans like that too. U can’t downshift into first gear
is ACURA even making these yet?!?! lol seen all these reviews and yet to see any at the STEALERSHIPS.... none the less they should have just revamped and made the RLX sport hybrid powertrain on this to be BONKERS OFF THE WALL TYPE of CAR!
Can't stand the red interior so tacky.
Do you have one? Probably not. The red interior is perfection
@@robdswingingcrypto6228
I waited for a while so I could get one without the red. It was too gaudy for me. Only one I saw with a red interior that looked good was the pmc in Gotham gray.
But engine sounds nice and sweet
Integra type s would smoke it in a roll race.
Depends how quickly you can shift ;)
No. I was chasing an Integra type s in mine. I was reeling him in on everything, and I was surprised that was the case with that car being so light.
@@MikeYurbasovichnice what year your type s ??

this or is350 f sport
I haven't driven an IS350, only IS300 but I'd take this any day.
They have the wrong engine in that car. Should be a 3.5 and HP needs to be closer to 400hp to really be competitive.
The Golf R is faster and only 4 cylinders and a bit less expensive.
Another sedan that looks great but too heavy making it run like a turtle...
Its more nimble than it looks when turning. The SH-AWD does make a difference. Its gonna get smoked if you try to race this like a muscle car.
Crazy how some cars never get an honest review because the reviewer cant even drive that well
Reviewers keep ragging on this car for no reason. There's another popular d-bag reviewer on here who said this is basically just a glorified Accord. Are you kidding me??!! What Accord is AWD and has 355 HP???
My gla 45 amg is 4 doors and faster than this by more than a little bit. 4.1 60 time. Quarter mile on 12.4. Got it for 40k used and I love it.
Your GLA also weighs like 1000lbs less and is more powerful. What did you expect?
@drivescene6747 600lbs lighter. 20 more hp. I'm simply saying for the money you can do better if we are talking about a 4 door vehicle as a starting point. Would you agree or do you disagree with that statement?
@@matthowell8985 not really, my favorite car in this class, the w205 C43 was more expensive with similar options. The S4 is only better in a straight line and the M340i is also more expensive.
@drivescene6747 but you can certainly be faster than this with 4 doors for less money.
@@matthowell8985 if faster is your only goal then sure. I listed the S4 for reference
Looks like a bmw steering wheel
Nice car just too heavy for its competition
I had the 23 TLX Type S. When i found out it was direct injection only, i swapped it for a 22 Lexus IS350 F Sport.
How do you feel about your trade so far?
So no downshifting into first and no revving past 6k.
its just a nice sporty-ISH daily and that's about it
Aren’t you tired of copy and pasting the same bs?
The m340i is superior to this sorry. Tlx is a sexy car tho! You just can’t beat the b58.
With destination and comparably equipped, the M340i xDrive is about $70K. You used to be able to get the TLX Type S for ~$56K with the wheel package. They've since increased the price. Still a good deal, however.
B58 is a superior engine no doubt... but in most other categories I'll take the TLX
Maybe in your mind…I’ve smashed on plenty of m340i’s that rwd is not superior to our AWD sorry buddy
As it should be considering the higher cost, comparably equipped. The TLX Type-S is so much more distinct on the road and has all the power and performance that is actually usable on the road.
It is, but the m340i will be in the scrap yard when my type s sells for 25k.
Nice, but a 2024 Mustang Ecoboost is just as fast for much less $$$.
Exactly
This car will die due to under power... should have been upgrade to 420hp already...
0-60 in 4.6secs 😂😂🤣 I race these quite frequently in my 19 year old M3 (4.8s to 60) and destroy them all the time. Get your facts right buddy
I mean multiple factors will give or take tenths of a second, weight, tires, heat soak, etc
Transmission Programming in the 2024 is different if you didn’t know..
This car is NOT 4.6 seconds to 60. Everyone has gotten maybe 4.9……
True. 4.9 to 5.5.
I sometimes use Car and Driver's testing times which I should've stated in the video as they now use a 1-foot rollout (drag racing technique) for their tests. Admittedly I can see how this could be taken as a non-accurate number. Maybe I'll state Motor Trend's numbers going forward if that's what the people would rather see
The 2024 TLX Type S is 4.6 to 60 and 13.3 to the 1/4 mile.
