People often ask me why I don't review modified cars. Today Doug DeMuro is explaining why he doesn't review modified cars. I'm going to explain what a modified car is (to me, anyway), and then I'll cover the reasons why I only review clean, unmodified cars.

One law Canada has that I love is it's against the law to sell anything above list price , no matter what and especially cars! If you even suspect a dealer is doing it there's a whole section of government dedicated to chasing the rule breakers down with dealer crushing fines .
But they bypass this by adding items to the new vehicle, like underbody spray, rust protection, film protection etc, and easily bump up the price by 3-5k. It's all done in-house so they're still making bank by not contracting it out to someone else. What I also find some dealerships are doing is getting a close or familiar friend or family member to buy the vehicle, then sell it back to the dealership. Now they can mark it up for whatever they want.
@@ritchierichh Then it becomes a "used" car no? Since it now has a previous owner
So can i buy a car in Canada and drive it across the border back to the US?😂 would be great to get a car at sticker price
@@jonghoddoussi8617 yes, but it does not matter. That is the market price, and people pay for that marked up price. Honestly there is no absolute solutions as long as dealerships are independent businesses from the manufacturer.

The reason why they charge more for the unpainted carbon fiber wheels is because you need to take special care how the grain looks like (usually manual labor). When you paint them you can mess up the grain as long as their structure is satisfying.
Tavarish said when he sanded down his mclaren 675LT’s paint the carbon weave was perfectly aligned
No, fiber direction is important to structural integrity, so that has to be right to get the desired performance. The real reason is that carbon fiber degrades rapidly when exposed to UV light (the epoxy resin is literally plastic), so the "unpainted" wheels actually have to be covered by a clearcoat that blocks UV completely.

I have 2 C8s. This one is a 2LT coupe, and I took delivery of a Z06 2 weeks ago. I'm currently selling both of them. The 2LT has had 3 trans services and a trans replacement. The Z06 was throwing a low trans fluid pressure CEL code as they pulled it off the truck. They changed the valve body in it and it ran OK for 180 miles. CEL came back on. I was thinking my 2LT was just a factory F-up, but apparently my brand spanking new Z06 is doing the same damn thing. I'm flipping both. Someone else can deal with it.
That aside, they sound nice and perform great when they work. They just don't work. My 2LT has been down for a total of 8 weeks over the past 20 weeks.

By the way, the reason why many carbon fiber options are more expensive if the part is "unpainted" with just the clear coat over the component is that there is a lot of work involved in getting the weave of the carbon fiber to line up properly and look nice. You don't want any junctions between two pieces of carbon fiber in the visible area of the part, which is a non-issue if the part will get painted anyway. Look at interior pictures of some racing cars with carbon monocoque for example, the part is made from carbon fiber just because it's lighter than steel or aluminium and it's unpainted to save weight, there the weave is all over the place, the individual pieces of the weave are lined up all crooked and the junctions are ugly, because there no one cares what it looks like as long as it saves weight.

@@992turbos there's also the argument that Ferraris don't have to cost as much as they do. Chevy will sell more, while also making money from having other brands and vehicles to offset the cost. Part of Ferrari is exclusivity. low volume and high cost are the first two variables in that.
@@PresidentJackBauer I’m not entirely convinced thats a different argument than what I’m making. If Ferrari is spending more to manufacture, then obviously they are going to produce less. You can say they’re not worth what they sell for, but you can check any value book to see for yourself that they hold value and appreciate quite well. I’m not even that big a fan of Ferrari, and some of the way they treat even their own customers is shameful, but they’re hand made in Italy lol. There’s a reason why GM had to buy a few old Ferrari engines to study/copy. GM couldn’t keep building off their own platform entirely so they incorporated newfound engineering or design into their own engine, right?
I want to take this car back in time to 1990 and show it to GM Engineers working on the ZR-1 project and say to them "YOU SEE WHAT YOU STARTED? IS THIS WHAT YOU WANT?"
Excellent review Doug. So I happened to surprise my wife with a 2022 C8 LT2 with the Z51 package. We both had corvettes when we first met in our twenties. So, it was a sentimental purchase.
I've been a car enthusiast since I was a teen. Had muscle cars, then bought my first vette 1962 at 21. It was semi customized, and it was and still is beautiful. It was a great feel to own, just not a great drive. but a head turner!
So, she took delivery of the C8 in March of 2022. She now has 11k miles on it (two long road trips attributed to half that mileage). She has no hesitation pushing the envelope with it. We do track it locally and even get it on a drag strip with some of the muscle cars. I am not a typical collector as we own them to use and really enjoy them.
We've had several other corvettes, and the C8 is impressive as its unlike any of the previous generations. The mid engine dual 8 speed clutch and much more chevy implemented changed the game for the corvette.
Now it's a far cry from the two Ferrari's. A 2020 F8 Tributo & 2019 Ferrari 488 GTB! You're also talking about a hugh sticker price difference.
We have 7 adult children and our 5th grandchild due soon, but there is still room for another car. I always wanted a Z06, so I have one on order, but a 2023 delivery is questionable. The vettes are just in my blood, but lean towards the Italian super cars.
I’d you don’t mind me asking, what do you do for work? I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to afford a brand new corvette, let alone every other awesome car you have.
I have been fortunate to have built a large-scale New York based contracting company.
Not alone either, as I am surrounded with gifted loyal people!
I've also been fortunate to have invented some equipment in my industry that I have also been awarded US and Canadian patents.
I came from nothing, but 40 years later, I am so amazed and grateful for what my family has been blessed with!
Also, I never forgot where I came from! It's been an amazing ride well beyond the cars! One part of my success formula is that I have gifted people with cars. I found that when much is given, much is required.
Being surrounded by a loving wife, 7 children, and 5 grandchildren are the greatest gifts of all.
God bless and be well!

8:38 Doug, put the car in Neutral as it's slowing down (under 15kmph) and Rev, that's the trick to getting around that not letting you Rev sitting still issue.
Doc Brown says "Now you're going to see some serious sh-t....'
The difference between the coupe and convertible, in the C8, is much more than ease of top removal. Airflow is much different. The C8 coupes (like C7, and prior models) buffet quite a bit at speed when the wind is down. For those of us that enjoy our top down motoring it is a much more pleasant experience.
You know the engine sounds incredible when UA-cam auto closed caption considers the revving as [music]
Naperville, IL has one for $244,000 daaaaa fuuuuuuggg!!! Same color . Crazy
I think you're right on the Z06 being too performance focused for some, but that's also a Z07 package, and a non Z07 in comfort mode with street tires should be more forgiving in that regard.
I was waiting for this one for so long
Doug, Yes you can, Put it in drive and pull both paddles then you can rev to redline while stationary
Don’t understand why anyone would waste their money on this old fashioned technology. I was talking to my local vet sales rep and he says that prices are plummeting as people are starting to buy new tech evs with better performance and handling at lower prices and save an additional $10K to $15K on fuel and maintenance. The depreciation in the next few years on these old cars will be incredible
I test drove and then immediately order the new EV6 GT Incredible performance and handling, much better than my old 2022 C8. I was really lucky to sell my C8 at peak demand a few months ago for more than I purchased in 2021.
Thanx to great advice from my vet sales manager. I think he saved me well over $100K in losses if I kept my C8
One year later and yes, you were right! Prices are dropping fast.
1) I so want Chevy to do a shortened version (maybe only Z06 & ZR-1 versions) without the trunk area. Granted…only if we see a noticeable performance gain.
2)there definitely will be a even higher performance edition (ZR-1 if gas powered, probably called something else if electric enhanced).
