The Believe Album was the album I fell in love with Cher in '98 at 8 years old and I still adore her to this very day! The album was and still is Cher's best album and The "Do You Believe" Tour she embarked on in 1999-2000 to support Believe was also her return to the concert stage after nearly a decade. It is also her best live show of all her tours to date (in my opinion). She was nominated for an Emmy for the recording of the tour (later winning for "The Farewell Tour"). Since Believe she has done 3 concert tours, 2 vegas residencies all of which where due to her "comeback" in 1998. I saw Cher in 2019 in Dublin and the second those first cords of Believe started 14,000 fans erupted, to this day is the highlight of every live Cher concert. After all these years Believe still has a special place in her heart and she still performs it with love and never gets bored of performing it, she has made the song the finale to her shows and always bigger and better each tour because without Believe Cher would not have the platform to sell out arenas like she still does, Icon or not, we thank Believe for keeping Cher on top of her game and into her 6th decade on stage and screen 👑🎤🎶
My earliest memories as a kid was hearing this song everywhere when I was about 4 years old and in preschool. My aunt bought the ppv concert and we all watched it, so crazy this was 24 years ago!
I love what you did with this video. I allways believed the same in terms of pop comebacks. Cher had so much going against her being successfull at that time....and look what she managed to do.
Thank you😀 Yes that was what I wanted to convey with this video. She’d really fallen very far down the entertainment ladder. At the time you would never in a million years have thought Cher is going to make a comeback let alone have one of the biggest songs ever
The best comebacks happened between 1998-2000 Cher-Believe Madonna-Ray of Light and Music Bon Jovi- Crush with huge banger single it’s my life U2 -All that you can’t leave behind and it’s incredible banger beautiful day
Cher's talent is to be able to come back from the ashes, when everyone thought Cher's career was over, she comes back with a global success, a lesson to be learned from Cher, is to never admit defeat, and to always believe in yourself. Cher deserves everything she has. Amazing artist and above all amazing human being 💜
I think what inspired "Believe" was the fact that "One By One" was her biggest dance hit since "Take Me Home". The second US single, "Paradise is Here" also made a dent on the dance charts. It's notable that the "It's A Man's World" "US release was only 11 of the 14 tracks from the UK original and most where remixed to have a more contemporary pop/soul sound.
Well Mariah & Kylie were good comebacks. And Cher was a great comeback too. But I'm surprised they had to convinced Cher to do a dance album. back in 1996, Warner Brothers put out the CD-Maxi Single "One By One" which includes the Junior Vasquez remix was a big seller and got a lot of spins in the dance clubs. So Cher doing a dance record was a no brainer. They just need the right song that hits the nerve & the label to get behind it and "Believe" was that song. To me the greatest comeback of all time was Tina Turner back in 1984 with her single "What's Love Got To Do With It" and the album "Private Dancer". No one ever thought Tina would No one ever thought Tina was going to be up there selling records with the likes of Michael, Prince, Madonna, Whitney, Cyndi Lauper, Phil Collins & WHAM!!! Featuring George Michael but she did. That album made her an icon.
I’ve always said this on tumblr and irl: my number one favorite song of all time is Believe by Cher. 😄 idk man.. the vibe is just so timeless and it still feels like something from the far future idk how to explain it. It just bangs 💥

Mariah sold more album with Emancipation of mimi Believe sold over 10 million Emancipation of mimi sold 12 million Plus yes Believe was a bigger international success than we belong together And also Madonna's comeback with confessions on a dance floor was quite bigger globally too than Mimi album in 2005 Plus the fact that both mimi and madge had their huge comebacks in 2005 makes the year so iconic
Yes it can also depend on a number of factors & it can be quite subjective & personal for different fans. But in terms of a comeback single, and considering where Cher's career was before it (kinda over) it has to be the biggest comeback single.
The source that states Believe has sold 10 million copies is from 2002, so till this day, Believe has sold way more. In fact, its sales figure now around 20 million of copies.
Nice video! To me, despite I'll love Believe until my own death, I feel Kylie's comeback with 'Can't Get....' has been bigger. Cher was in decline, true. But Kylie was too, and she's been truly successfully (until 2001) only in Uk and Oceania. She reached new countries and a whole new audience more than 10 years after her debut. Saleswise, 'Can't Get' isn't even too far from 'Believe'. I just love that 2 of my favourite songs ever are part of massive comebacks.

@@jonnyharvey Yes. Obviously she had the whole thing in the 60s but had wilderness years in the 1970s (although Cher stood by her).
