Lady Gaga's Fame Monster - the GREATEST Pop Era ever?

  • Опубліковано 22 тра 2024
  • In 2009, with the release of the Fame Monster and its' three huge hit singles, Lady Gaga solidified her place as the biggest popstar in the world, and arguably the most significant since MJ and Madonna in the 80s.
With the release of 'the Fame' at the end of '08 and its re-issue 'the Fame Monster' a year later, Gaga dominated international airwaves & captured the media and the public’s imagination with her fearless performances and shocking style.
So just how did she do it? What was the original plan for the Bad Romance promo? Why did the producer of Telephone have to re-work Beyonce’s part? And why did Gaga grow to dislike the track and video? Which song from the album did her label want to be the third single? Who exactly came up with the idea for the meat dress? This mini-documentary explores these questions and more.

Gaga was EVERYWHERE during this time. You could not escape her, even if you tried. I remember even my cousins in West Africa knew her despite barely having access to internet and international TV. Her fashion, music, controversies and talent worked so well. The explosion of social media and the digital age also helped in making her a mega star. Her name is literally Lady Gaga. It doesn't get anymore iconic.

Even MDNA started hatred towards Gaga because she saw the genius before her eyes with actual gift from God, and not fabricated off of the entire eroticism and lip-synching. Fame Monster Gaga was born at the 2009 VMAs, after that bloody performance her imagery and music took a darker turn. I remember very vividly when Dance in the Dark leaked, it sounded so different... I didn't know her label intended to release it as a single, they were right, this song is far superior to Alejandro. I've never forgiven her for not giving us a video of this masterpiece.
Watching this video made me realize the Art Pop concept was redundant. The whole "put art back in pop" idea had already been done in her previous albums, there was no need to reaffirm herself as the bold artist she was, everyone saw it.

It's a shame she doesn't like Telephone much. It must be hard for an artists to have a huge song, and a big part of that be because of someone else. I wonder if Rain On Me will suffer the same fate.

Commenters are saying Teenage Dream is better and I do agree, however TFM was 10x more original and exciting _at the time_ in my humble opinion. She brought so much excitement back to pop music that was missing after a decade of R'n'B and rock. Videos barely had dancers let alone 8+ minute dramas like Paparazzi and Telephone. Her older albums haven't aged well though - TD is far easier to listen to in 2023 than TFM, BTW or AP.

    • @jonnyharvey

As a Roisin Murphy fan I was incredibly bitter throughout the entirety of Lady Gaga's early career. It felt like she watched Overpowered's campaign play out and went "Now let's give that a budget!" But I digress. I actually really like the base album The Fame, but the Fame Monster never did it for me. I've never liked the post-chorus chant refrain epidemic that Bad Romance started, on top of that. I just think Paparazzi and Boys, Boys, Boys are 10000000x better individually than everything on TFM combined. But that's really more a testament to how amazing I think those two songs are lol.

At the time, UA-cam views didn't count toward Billboard Hot 100 points, Bad Romance was the biggest UA-cam video of all time in 2009 and 2010, TikTok only had a slight lead inn digital sales and radio points. Bad Romance was the bigger song and overall 15-years later.@@avpz
