This scene is one of the best chemistry in all movies that i have seen. Great conversations, great smile, great acting and the right music came at right time. Everything was right in this scene, and yeah lighting can strike!
That's how difficult it was to flirt before the 90's, no cell phone and text message, just one chance and if you failed, that was it! "For those who wonder what it was like to live without a cell phone"
Brad Pitt made it, but Claire Forlani didn't achieve the status she deserved. Her looks weren't like everyone else's, in an almost ethereal way, and her acting skills were just about on par with her co-stars. Her facial expressions could tell the story, like theirs. That's what really impressed me about her films.
I heard a rumour Weinstein made a move and she rejected him, her career went another way after that. Its a shame, as you said she is a very good actress.
She is one of my top 5 actresses of all time. Seen a few of her movies and this is in the top 3. She is so beautiful with or without makeup!! Wish she was appreciated much more for her work!!!😍🔥🔥🙌🏽
Claire Forlani would have scorched the screens in romantic film if she had been around in the 1950-1960''s. classic beauty, graceful style, sharp acting. Such an anachronistic fate for a beautiful actress
I agree. The Thomas Newman music throughout is so much of part of the power of the movie - especially seen here as part of the "walkaway" clip, the second clip after the deleted edit of a non-coffee shop scene.
That transition to between the two coffee shop scenes is at about 4:15 (beginning with "it's kind of a pro bono job"). Newman's "Walkaway" music starts at about 6:00.
She has great eyes, great smile, very expressive face. At my advanced age I’m still amazed that some women are simply striking without being the most conventionally beautiful.
Thanks for editing out the accident part. Man do I ever love this moment in this movie. I watched it for the first time the other day. I was like, "No, man, it's says 'Don't Walk', get outta there!!! You got a woman to marry and cherish!!!" Overall there were some serious theological problems with the movie, but as far as capturing the very essence of what it feels like to fall instantly in love with someone as if God destined you to be together, this captured it and reminded me of that feeling. Sadly, most people just hook up these days and coast into crap relationships only to break up later or be miserable for the remainder of life. The best thing is to put faith in the Lord, walk with Him, and wait on Him to bring you to your perfect partner while doing good. As for all the guys saying, "It's cause he's brad pitt", no, it's cause he's kind, and tender, safe, funny, caring, and well kept which means he takes care of himself. All that comes through from the dialogue exchange and his initial phone call with his little sister. Not to mention he's working 'pro bono' as a lawyer. I'd say this character was the most down to earth, real, and likable characters Brad Pitt ever played.
Lots of ingenuity in this movie with "names". The unnamed character Brad portrays puts too much cream in his coffee. Perfunctorily portrayed mirror image wise with Forlani's character. The Joe (Coffee) Black character is "coffee without" cream. - a pale reflection of the vivacious coffee shop character. The Anthony Hopkins character's name is William Parrish. He is going to die, and that's why "Joe" is there. It would not right to call him "Will Perish". They punched with script up over the best part of 20 years. I'm sure they giggled every time.
The most captive conversation I saw in a movie. It twisted my heart and heart so I thought it must be real not acting. In nowday world i miss this fleshy sensual and random talk between a strangers. Talking to a stranger is exciting.
A lot of this movie is flawed and it isn't as great as it tries to be, but when it gels. This film is fucking beautiful in the simplest ways and it has a lot to say about life, love and death.
I wish they had made this movie in 2 versions. Second one he does not die and keeps flirting with her forever. A woman like that is definitely worth giving everything up for.
The irony of this scene how to flirt normally and have a wonderful conversation smile and laugh left and right now they made flirting worst in this generation
fiuhhhhhhhhhhhh !!!..those sad moment when Brad Pitt ran down with a huge truck-trailer is not on a footage..Meet Joe Black is THE BEST spiritual romantic movie after Groundhog Day..Keep on making this kind of movie, America..This is a beautiful sight of liturgic rites..We are sick and tired with an orthodox doctrine that We must go to some kind of Holy Place to see and to talk in a certain time with Sang Hyang Widhi..Forget That !!!..We can speak to Sang Hyang Widhi by listening a romantic music, watching a romantic movie..
It's a shame that the film had to follow it's plot. It robbed us of a fantastic chemistry and on-screen romance between these two characters. She fell in love with Joe at the coffee shop, and got The Reaper instead!
After ending the convo inside and even when outside, you wish he would say something before she walks too far (seeing as she's quieter/ shy), you see they both want to and feel something there.
This has been my favorite scene for a decade, I love this movie, but all of a sudden I think, wait wait, "Meet JOE BLACK" Joe as in Coffee? Black? MY MIND IS BLOWING. AM I LATE ON THIS REALIZATION?
Very sweet scene. I love how he looks at her. Claire is beautiful. And Brad is extremely hot, cute and so gorgeous! How I wish I could meet my Brad Pitt in a coffee shop.xD
i agree> yes that would be great. she is amazing!!!! good looks makes no odds though trust me!! we are all the same . i know it sounds shit? but its true , i think its about the effort you make. love can hit us in differentt ways eh!!. As long as you love and are loved back , as you see Mr hopkins say to her in the movie. cheers
No in hell is this how normal strangers act at a coffee shop with this much comfort and clarity. I don't look at people while I'm eating, lol, let alone talk to them.
i dont doubt it, you’re adorable. Adorable and precious and cute and compassionate, I love you and everything about you and the romance of you? youre romantic and kind and sweet👍 what an amazing drawing Lol, should teach a class I love you :)
I have never known a woman like this. A love like this. Perhaps it's me, but just as perhaps it's the ones I fell for. Only one came close to being right and I lost her after an accident and 22 years of marriage. The others that came before and after her were so wrong for me, and left scars on my heart and mind. But at least I had one for a time who was honorable. This movie makes my heart hurt. Ms. Forlani is so lovely and quiet and peaceable. I know she was playing a role, but my gosh, between her and Madeleine Stowe in Last of the Mohicans I know I would die happy. They are truly lovely women.
@Schtave Huh. Well, Joe Black got his name when Susan's father had to introduce him at the family dinner. It referred to Death, what Bill found out "Joe" was. Would've been a nice double entendre, but I doubt "Black" means the coffee too, because both of them put way too much cream and sugar in their cups.
One of my favorite movies of all time…that chemistry is insane ❤️❤️❤️
Tittle please ????
@ , Meet Joe Black
They have a ridiculous amount of chemistry...heartbreaking that she doesn't turn around and go after him or vice versa!
Yep! Plus she is the quieter one, so definite shame he doesn't as you say.. or even whilst they look at each other before walking away in this scene.
Yes. He doesn’t even ask for her number.
Here from 2024 🤩
There is always a ridiculous amount of chemistry with any woman… and BP. He is a really good actor.
So romantic 100%
Whoa, this guy moves fast, who does he think he is, Brad Pitt?
Yes, that's him.
Such a simple, beautiful scene. Wonderful chemistry. And it does sometimes happen that way … that’s the wonder of our existence.
This scene is one of the best chemistry in all movies that i have seen. Great conversations, great smile, great acting and the right music came at right time. Everything was right in this scene, and yeah lighting can strike!

It wasn't difficult at all. It's difficult today because texting is meaningless
Actually....it was extremely easy!
And much more easier than now....

it was betterr that way , i still do it but people think i am a freak ... maybe i am just not brad at his 30s ...

It would be TERRIBLE to consider all the actresses that Weinstein types have prevented US from enjoying their starring-films.

she is conventionally beautiful, as you wrote, she has cat like eyes, lovely high cheekbones, perfect little nose, mouth and lips
I always tell me wife that she would be my free pass. She's beautiful. Full stop.
they don't make movies like this anymore, 80s & 90s were the time where the best movies were made
...and music!
This scene was spectacular 🤙🏽.
He’s knocking her off her feet! And she is loving all of it. Yes…lighting can strike.
This scene is still so awesome.
