    Great video and great tips!
    I would add default settings for a audio or midi channel strips and stock plugins. If you always turn the same knobs on a plugin on start. Right click save a default. Same for channels. Add the essentials plugs to a channel, Save as default. Will save years of mouse input 😎
    In OSX every function in the top menu of an app can be custom mapped in system preferences/keyboard settings
    So a shift + command D could be a single keypress. Like F1. That one deserves a single keypress.
    And if you want to go deeper tackling some essential functions only accessible in the right click menu ( which is NUTS Ableton )
    Then check out get keyboard maestro. You can create macro's and for example map a sequence of mouse and/or keyboard actions to a single key or midi press.
    Like for example rename current track to Drums and change track color to red in a single key action.

      Cool thing on a related note…in the new firmware update for Novation controllers (even Launchpad mini and launchkey mini mk3) you can now make custom setups that include keyboard shortcuts in your user templates! It was able to customize midi notes, cc, program change and the usual but being able to add shortcuts to colored buttons is a lovely workflow update! I already use the Launchpad for launching scenes and clips but I do have a second Lp just sitting there unused which I’m setting up completely for keyboard shortcuts. The problem I’m having is deciding which ones would be the most useful! Also, trying to decide how to color code them to make memorization easiest! And yes, I use keyboard Maestro as well, and it’s incredible. Mostly a tool from my development work but I have attempted to apply it to my audio workflow, but also as you said, in OSX keyboard settings, you can do most of that heavy lifting already!
      I suppose ill keep most shortcuts limited to the F1+ keys and map the rest to single buttons on a controller. I suppose that’ll just leave me with the mouse dragging related stuff for any of the traditional method.
      Wish I could get myself to sit down and do all this setup, but every single time I add a new shortcut trick, I end up “testing it” aka working on music n putting off the rest of the setup lol

    Some of these just changed my whole process. The txt options are really great. And I'm about to go crazy with key mapping haha.
    The only one that didn't apply is the follow action because I build all of my parts in session view and mix and match ideas by default through that method. But I must thank you, so thanks!

    Really like the idea to resample n toss the loops into the scene view to work out ur arrangement. Tbh, I feel like some sort of section based approach in the arrangement view that goes beyond just labeling locators would be a nice update in the program, but using resampling to sketch out a demo cut for how many bars a part should be or which transitions work best in different places is a great idea. I actually use a mobile app called Koala to start most of my tracks and it has multiple ways to export to Live, one of which puts all your loops/sequences into different channel slots in the same way and that’s how I’ve been working things out before I import the samples and do all the detailed work and vst stuff I need the mac for so personally, I’m right at home using your approach n made this video a total gem for me! Thx

    Hi, for loading a sample from your browser to a simpler you can do it even quicker. Add a blanc midi track. Search for sample in the browser and hit enter. It automatically loads a Simpler with the sample on the track.

    F9 is record arm on my laptop. R is reverse so that might reverse something when you dont mean to idk.

    • @iamtoybox
      @iamtoybox 2 роки тому +1

      That automatic arm trick is awesome. I get so annoyed that there isn’t a hotkey to arm the selected track but this tip might be the answer

    • @WillHatton
      @WillHatton  2 роки тому

      Thanks for the heads up on R, ironically I hit that reverse button manually with a point and click (so much for speeding up our workflow!) but it hasn’t been too much an issue so far!
      Good tip though!

    ABLETON SUCKS !
    Here is what happens when you start complaining to much about not getting support (read: support ignoring you).
    THIS IS ABLETON REPLY:
    "Since you have violated our Support Service Guidelines, we can no longer offer support.
    Please check our Knowledge Base to answer any future inquiries.
    Ableton Support"
    I asked, what guidelines I violated or what kind of crime I committed - NO RESPONSE. All this after investing in Ableton over $3k in recent 10+ years
