      @@ArthropodAntics lucky i live in florida where u cant even get any ants shipped to u

    • @ArthropodAntics
      @ArthropodAntics  3 роки тому

      @@attaenjoyer4092 Ant shipping laws are a nationwide thing, but AZ is just lucky enough to have amazing diversity. Florida's got such a problem with invasive ants that it is difficult to find interesting ants. I have heard that Ocala national forest in FL is a very good spot to catch native ants, if you live near there it's probably worth checking out.

    What happened to the neivamyrmex texana?

    • @ArthropodAntics
      @ArthropodAntics  3 роки тому +1

      The queen seemed to be only partially fertilized. Army ant queens mate multiple times across the season and my queen, while she did produce a few workers, seemed to act very strange and refused to lay many eggs, as well as having an abnormally high brood mortality. My theory is that she only mated once, which was affecting her ability to sustain the colony. I released them in hopes they could succeed in the wild.

      Dang that’s unfortunate. I think you made the right decision. Good luck in the future!

    Do you have any fungus you are willing to part with? Have some queens. No fungus pellets.

    How do you water your formicariums?

    • @ArthropodAntics
      @ArthropodAntics  3 роки тому

      there is a small chamber full of sand that you inject water into via a syringe. the sand absorbs the water, which slowly transfers to the ultracal that the nest is made of.

      @ArthropodAntics  3 роки тому

      @@iloknoy When fully soaked it will last 3-4 weeks, however I recommend adding a bit more water every week or so to maintain a constant humidity level
