Join me on my adventures to discover the world's most fascinating arthropods, and all other walks of life! Based in Arizona, most of my videos will be focused on the diversity of the Southwestern US, but I yearn to travel all over the world searching for all of the most interesting wildlife I can find! The name Arthropod Antics comes from my website, which you can visit here! www.arthropodantics.com/. Your purchases there help to directly fund my videos, so I can keep making bigger and better content in the future.
It Won't Stop Raining, and I Can't Stop Winning! Catching hundreds of ant queens~
Arizona's monsoon season is in full swing, and I have once again found myself in Southern Arizona surrounded by hundreds of queen ants, rare & venomous snakes, and more! Despite this being a short trip, I'm not sure I've ever seen more ant queens than I did on this day.

Catching Arizona's First Nuptial Flights!
Переглядів 1,8 тис.14 днів тому
In this video, only minutes after arriving back home from Florida, I immediately shot down to southern Arizona to collect the first ant queens of the year. This was a huge gamble, and I was definitely considering just staying inside and sleeping instead... will my gamble pay off? Spending Days to find an Invasive Monster
Переглядів 60521 день тому
I spent a week in the Florida Everglades hunting for invasive Burmese Pythons! It ended up being a lot harder than I expected, but can I still succeed? How many other species will I find along the way? Absolutely everything out here is new to me, so whatever happens we're in for a fun adventure! Arthropod Antics Discord Server: discord.gg/mBY6QBTbff
Caribbean Island Hopping to find Rare Ants
Переглядів 1,2 тис.28 днів тому
My family decided to take me on a Caribbean cruise, and naturally I took the opportunity to look for ants. I had to rush, only having a few hours at each stop, and if I took too long the ship would leave me behind! Of course, not everything went to plan, but I did my best to find a bunch of ants I had never seen before, including a bunch of rare species! Arthropod Antics Discord Server: discord...

As per usual the great state of Wisconsin did not disappoint! On this trip I found tons of Parasitic Formica, a rare cryptic ant, and tons of snakes! I had never seen a ringneck snake before this trip, so getting 16 of them in one day was pretty special. I Broke Into America's Ant Shop

I infiltrated the Stateside Ants facility to try and get an idea of how things worked back there, and maybe take a few colonies for myself. That is, until the owner caught me snooping around! I tried to play it cool, and took the opportunity to get an exclusive interview with the largest ant shop in America. Finding Leafcutter Ants in Unexpected Places
Переглядів 1 тис.Місяць тому
I travelled to Central Illinois to find Trachymyrmex septentrionalis, the northern fungus-farming ant. This population is one of the northernmost ranges of fungus growing ants on the planet, only being contested by another population of this same species on Long Island, New York. On top of searching for Trachymyrmex, it's also looking like a really good time to find some Camponotus queens, and ...
Desert Rain = Ant Queens, Ant Queens, and more Ant Queens!

After waiting months for monsoons to hit, the first heavy thunderstorms of 2023 brought the desert to life, and dozens of ant species had massive mating flights. I was on a mission to collect ant queens, and I'd end up being more successful than my wildest dreams. In the final trip of spring before Arizona's monsoon season, I went out in one of my favorite spots for rock flipping, and managed to find a whole lot of amazing wildlife! From my favorite solitary invertebrate, a giant desert centipedes, a ton of rare ants, and a ton of snakes, I hardly could have asked for a better trip. I hope you enjoy it! Everything Went Wrong While Looking for Fire Ant Queens in Mexico

In the final part of my Mexico Anting trip, problem after problem slowed us down, between getting kicked out of our spot in a nature preserve to getting locked out of boardwalks, the universe was out to get us! Despite everything, we still managed to find some insane wildlife, including queens of the Tropical fire ant Solenopsis geminata!

Part 2 of my Mexico trip introduces the first ant queens of the trip, including a Neivamyrmex army ant queen! This is only the third time I've found a Neivamyrmex queen, and to think it was 1600 miles from my home state! On top of that, a Neoponera villosa queen, tons of tarantulas, our first live snake, and even more insane army ant species makes this video one you can't miss! Music track: Lit...

What light did you use? A blacklight but some more info?
Are those little bugs backswimmers?
Just got some pogos !
The most stereotypical ant hill
"GET DOWN MR PRESIDENT!"
how does this man catch so much queen ants while i almost find none😭🙏
POGGERS!
Hey you stole my footage!!! Also nice to see what yall were up to while we were catching pheidole rhea, seems like uou got a more diverse haul then we did lol
This guy is ballin
Donkey Kong SNES!,, yes!
Poor Rhea flight lollllll
Unlimited colonies the past 2 weeks in Tucsonnnnn
If you still have this problem Get silvered colloid Make contact with the mites and the silvered colloid Done The ants are okay with it But the mites justdie from it they just fall off and DIE!
when's the best time to look for queens?
Depends on where you live and what species you're trying to catch.
"Ant gamblecore :queen edition"
It really is a gamble when I have to drive 3+ hours to get to good spots, lol.
I found one three weeks ago, I found her on my yard so I picked her up to take her to a better place for her to dig, but by the time I was taking her to a park, she had already laid eggs so I had no choice but to keep her. She is living on a box with a wet cotton and she has laid about 20 eggs, she has a black thing which I think is the fungus, but when I give her leaves she puts them next to the wet cotton instead of feeding the fungus. I don't know the first thing about attas so I would like some help pls 😢.
Atta are fully claustral, they won't cut leaves to feed their fungus in founding. After 3 weeks she should have a large fungus, so if you're not seeing that then she doesn't have fungus.
I LOVE STATESIDE ANTS!!
How to catch bro im in thailand, and it rain like hell here need some new ants!
Ants fly all the time in the tropics, you should be able to find queens everywhere, although maybe not in such insane numbers since the flights are much more spread out.
I need to know what the equipments were used to catch plenty of queens
This is amazing, how big does a colomy of Rhea get? And also, are they polygynous ?
P. rhea colonies get hundreds of thousands of workers, and are monogynous.
@@ArthropodAntics thank you
Which species would you describe as harder to get through the founding stage, atta or acromyrmex versicolor?
Atta are mostly up to luck, being fully claustral, where A. versicolor are mostly up to skill, requiring active and correct care since they are semiclaustral.
Can you find pheidole rhea in NM
@@KingBeatlejuice yeah, but barely. Basically only the Peloncillo Mts. have them in the far southwest corner of the state.
@ArthropodAntics what about camponotus ocreatus
8:10 you have to *FIND* a horseshoe or *it is not lucky!* ... however!! - *YOU PUT IT UPSIDE DOWN!* big no no! All the *luck will fall out!!* Turn it around or your ants escape! ps. funfact: the more nails are still in the shoe the luckier the iron is (given that it was less likely to slip off the horse and all that) !
love your videos great content!
Weird request, but could you do an updated ant room tour?
I plan on it, but you see, I kinda have to finish my ant room first...
@@ArthropodAntics K
Chit Chat should make a cameo 👍
It would be my dream to see a Pheidole rhea emergence with male and queen alates. It would just be cool to see queens hop out of their rocks that their birth colony was under ❤
im just wondering what sp of phedoile live in mass
Massachusetts? Only Pheidole pilifera, but that's a pretty solid species to have.
another great video! Myrmecocystus mimicus flew near me, pheidole xeropilia flew and hundreds of queens were drowning, don’t worry I saved as many as I could.
I can’t believe this. there was a black alate peaking out of one of those “myrmecocystus mexicanus” Nests.
i am 2ed here
0:21 ew.
Good example of a nuptial flight and the behavior of queens and drones I found queens just in my home and they are A mystery species of queen ants cause i dont know them so i just collect them
I am a first one here
Cool I’m second
Cool I'm 3rd
What part of nm where you in
At 3:30, that myrmecocystus, that color is what I just found flying near me. however It’s In season so they were preparing to fly, they didn’t by mimicus did.
Me: found 3 Queens. Him: found all of them
Bro had the guts to steal a queen from an whole ant colony without getting stinged💀
Hey man! Im from the benson area, and im looking for areas to hunt. Do you have any suggestions? Skies are looking dark and i was hoping to catch my first colony :)
Benson, az area btw in case for some reason that wasn't clear
do the queens sting or bite ?
@@youteens depends. Most queens will bite, and a lot of the species in this video can sting (Pogonomyrmex, Tetramorium, Odontomachus.) Generally if their workers can sting, so can the queens.
w vid
The snake looks like a hooknose by the shape of the head but would need a closer view of the head to be sure
Nice video! I was just in Arizona and caught two red harvester ant queens.
Ur so lucky you live in a coutry like that😭 here there are like no crazy ant species, and also we have a lot less species😕 good luck for them tho! Keep up the nice videos!
Thank you
If I saw that I would catch them and sell them and leave five colony’s for me
How would you know what day to coulect them
How do the ants not get crushed in those tubes by the rocky dirt? I don’t know anything about ants except that they are cool
@@Kyle_Spivis Assuming you're talking about the Pheidole xerophila, they definitely can, but Pheidole species tend to have pretty tough exoskeletons, and we made sure to be careful not to toss the tube around while collecting
Heck ya thanks for the video!
when Acromyrmex?
@@JesusGonzalez-gr9wz dunno, they'll probably be flying for the next 2 months so I'll probably get them at some point
any ideas on myrmecocystus mexicanus flight times?
been waiting forever
I think they've already had their major flights across most of AZ. They'll fly with the first monsoonal rains in the evening.
I see founding chambers all over but is there a way to tell if it’s myrmecocystus mexicanus.? Pogonomyrmex rugosus is all I’ve found.
to bad you didnt catch lasius breveconis
@@Pio2DMax14 so true 😔
I don’t know if you are gonna respond, but I caught 6 lasius breveconis queens.
Bro it’s honestly the smaller ant channels (No offense to you) that are actually so much better than big channels. I would choose to watch you over AntsCanada any day bruh 😂
@@BreezeAnts Hopefully I won't be a "smaller" channel for long! The growth has been amazing recently, and I'm hoping if I just keep making good quality videos I'll eventually get more and more viewers. I appreciate the support!
waiting for you to grow to popularity! It rained near me and Pheidole cerebrosior flew pogonomyrmex rogusus and solenopsis so many pheidoles!
