Rob DeLeo is one of the most criminally underrated bassists. He does so much cool shit.
Not to mention he writes 90% of all STP songs. The guy's a genius.
that's exactly how I always thought
I'm a 55-year-old from the (Mighty Joe Young) 90s and never thought I'd be happy with a Scott replacement, but holy cow this works so well. What a treat to listen to.
Robert's bass playing is absolutely legendary one of the best of all time
Jeff is so great. He's truly carrying the torch for all of us that miss Scott.
no. that is trash. you just stop when you get to this point. you just stop. jeff is karaoke.
ABSOLUTELY NO... BUT JEFF IS A HUGE HUGE SINGER, ON HIS OWN STYLE👌👌👌👌👌🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👏👏👏👏👏
@@cibercafe36 but what style?, everything from his facial movements to fashion is all scotts
@@Mike-zf4xg Imagine getting filtered this hard.
Okay. I don't even know who the fuck the aforementioned "Jeff" is. Because, when Scott passed... In my opinion, STP died with him. I heard Chester. I was not impressed. I heard the guy from American Idol, or whatever.
They couldn't have found a better singer to fill Scott's shoes. When I listen to Jeff sing with STP, it's like he's paying tribute to Scott and the legacy of STP... R.I.P. Scott
Maaan... it's almost as if Scott poured his soul into these lyrics, that Jeff snaps into a piece of Scott when he sings these songs. It's really an amazing picture.
Like literally, Scott's soul lives within the music.
Im a fan from the beginning and stopped listening when Scott passed away. I remember checking out the new singer when it was announced and I didnt like him, I wouldnt allow myself to like him..... pretty sad, really. Today, in 2023, I think the guy is great and I am glad he is the dude who took over the vocals. He does a great job, not sure anyone else could do it as well.
Still Remains.
Hey man. Absolutely in the same boat as you. Just recently decided it was time to give the "new guy" another go. I should've been on board from the very beginning of him joining.
I read the comment right when I skipped to "Still Remains". Strange.
If I didn't know Scott passed away, I would swear that's Scott singing. This guy is awesome!!!!
they had Chester Bennington few years back singing also if ya didn't know , Scott is truly missed but this guy can hold his own also , not the same but this band touring feeds a lot of people , the show must go on, I would still pay to see them .
Im sorry, this guy sounds good but you would have to be tone deaf to think this is Scott. He is good, but he doesnt have the range and edge that Scott did. Maybe Scott would sound like this in his 50s but not right before he passed.
I remember Watching this singer in the 80s and 90s. SLYBOY?? It's been a while
You cannot replace perfection, but this guy does pretty damn good!
Scott was such a force!!
He just needs a little Heroin and he'll be right there!
We gotta be grateful that they’re still going. He ain’t no Scott Weiland, but he served the music pretty good considering Scott Weiland was one of the best vocalist in rock ‘n’ roll.
Such a back handed compliment. Jeff is amazing and on a vocal level probably equal to Scott. Yeah he's literally not Scott Weiland, but as a vocalist (not a leadman) he is easily on the same level.@@gus809
Saw them live 2 years ago at a show in Orange County NY, Jeff Gutt did an amazing job.
'Perfection' is relative.
Robert has some of the tastiest bass lines in rock!! The DeLeos complement each other perfectly. Not to mention that bass sound.
Robert is a musical genius. Saw his interview with Beato, and it surprised me how deep and intentional he is for someone who may fly under the radar as "the bass guy."
Absolutely underrated rhythm section for sure. Robert basslines more melodic than most bands' guitar/vocals.
The greatest ever in Rock!!!
His Rick Beato interview was mesmerizing.
My eyes and ears got scrambled watching and hearing him play Trippin… with Beato.
I just realized Robert's backing vocals are as great as his bass playing. God these guys got musicianship.
same here man!!
ya that shit is clean
Since day one :)
He's like Michael Anthony was to Van Halen, not only a great bassist but also those harmonics!
I believe he writes many of their songs as well, at least the music.
Massively underrated musicians.
Massively
LMAO ok...
RIP Scott Weiland. New singer is doing an AWESOME job.
That guitar tone is out of this world! My favourite guitarist ever.
Yeah team dean here too!
You heard Army of Anyone? ( DeLeo supergroup with Filter) Same amazing guitar tone
@@thevossman Don't forget "Trip The Witch"
@@markcolvin8812 Hadn't heard of that project, thanks!
1994. OJs Bronco was on our televisions, Pulp Fiction was in theaters, Cobain died, Barry Sanders was running wild for the Lions, and this album was a smash hit.
It's a damn shame i was only 4 years old what a year
That’s crazy! I remember all of that like it was yesterday, which doesn’t make it feel like that was 30 years ago.
I heard of oj when I was 10why not sto
With the exception of Barry Sanders (not a sports guy 🙂) I too, remember all of the above, very vividly. Being strangely riveted by and watching that surreal OJ chase from beginning to end.. haha. Seeing Pulp in the theater at least four times in that month it was released. And of course, Kurt's exit was dumbfoundingly awful. And yes, this record literally pummeled and thrilled upon arrival. What a year, shit, what a decade for that matter!
Scott was massive, unreachable. We arguably agree on that. But This guy, Jeff Gutts, has definitely balls...
Scott is still alive...in the music that lives on. Thank you Jeff for giving it your all. Vasoline hit and could hear Scott in spirit in you.
So well said, my friend!!!
Agreed
He really is killing it. Thank you, Jeff!
Someone PLEASE tell me STP is your favorite band, too. I feel like I'm all alone LOL! Why don't all my musician buddies feel the same way?? And I grew up with Zeppelin to compare these guys to. STP is the modern Zep to me, equal in every way in writing, talent and significance.
i have stp tied with alice in chains and megadeth as my favorites of all time
Yep....right up there with Soundgarden for me. Two very different bands with different sounds but I love them both dearly 😎
Yes, this is among my favorites, I am so glad they keep going on. As a kid I thought they were from Seattle, as a part of grunge scene, but I was so wrong... They are so unique and can't compare them to any other band. But, I know many famous bands that took inspiration from them. STP is music of my youth. I hope to see them live and looking forward for their new releases. Cheers!
Mine too and had to get an STP tattoo years ago.
@@maset8same
Jeff Gutt does justice to Scott, he will never replace him, but at least it lets the band keep going and be alive.
saw them live this year and it blew my mind
Sí Señor!
Tiene un timbre similar y en vivo su potencia y desplante hace honor a la memoria de Scott Weiland definitivamente...
bit like Alice in Chains singer William: different, but add quality to the band. He sounds great
The band was still HOT and killing it this summer 2023 when we saw the shows. Go out and see and support them!
One of the GREATEST albums of the 90s. Still holds up today…and this live performance is SO GOOD! Thanks for sharing.
Hah! Good to see you here.
Yes and Not even close. Can you guess in which order I mean that in.,? No Scott Weiland = No STP. Face facts and just move along with your record collection. Simple as that.
@@deanpesaturo6401I see all these comments about how STP died with Scott Weiland. If you don’t like it so much then why are you listening to this?

THANK YOU UA-cam!!!! POWER TO ALL MY BROTHERS WHO STILL KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS!
Still Remains is one of the most haunting songs STP made. Absolutely love that song.
Agreed, it's a gem. It's always been my favorite on this album.
"...take a bath I'll drink the water that you leave..." beyond romantic
Dean mastered rhythm. The way he keeps the percussive groove going in the bridge has always mesmerized me. It's just guitar but I swear you can feel the full band behind him.
In my top STP songs. Lovely tube!!
"Still Remains" is my favorite STP song!!!
The singer is actually amazing. I did not expect to like him as much as I do!
1994 was such an *unbelievable* year for music. This album (which is perfect, front to back)…Dookie, Jar of Flies, Superunknown, Dream Theater’s Awake, Cracked Rear View…it’s almost like a classic album was getting released on a weekly basis…
Therapy? Troublegum as well! 90s classic. Worth a listen if you've never heard it.
Agreed! but you should also check out ALL the movies that came out in 1994 too! what an insane year to be alive! i was only 4...but i certainly remember listening to this stuff with my dad haha
Awake is a great great album
@@mindmeld12345
Definitely…Now and then, I go through phases where it’s my favorite Dream Theater album
Don't forget about Nirvana's Live in New York. The early 90's have a megaload of amazing albums.
STP's my favorite band, and you couldn't ask for a better fill in for Scott than Jeff. RIP Scott and thanks Jeff for keeping these amazing songs alive.
My fave 90s band for sure and one of my all time faves… ev album has some phenomenal stuff… I saw them on the purple tour where all they played was core and purple in their entirety… Scott was so on his game then it was note for note… saw them on the last tour with weiland as well… as popular as they are they still don’t get the credit they deserve imo
You could pick a better fill in, and they did. Chester Bennington. 😣😭
@@DaveFurbush Nah, Jeff's a way better fit for STP in my opinion.
saw them back in 95/96 in Belgium live , they were incredible & still are
@@endocryfully agree. Jeff has more range, dynamics and ability.
Eric's playing-at the back end of the beat, making you wait for that hit til the last possible second. Robert's playing-propulsive, from the front, eager to move along. And then between them, Dean holds all that center space brilliantly. Such an incredible group of players. Dismissed often in the 90s despite being the most musically literate band of the alt/grunge explosion.
id argue that robert de leo is as literate a player as sting, but id say that especially soundgarden (matt cameron) and everyone in Pearl Jam are on this level too. Sth. like Black wasn't written by chance ;-)
I have to agree that STP have some punch that you won't get from PJ. But Pearl Jam's music is deeper, more complex and those old songs always touch my heart.
Yea..they were unjustifiably called pearl jam ripoffs..though they could hold a candle of their own
@@sanjaykale6235 Yeah, Pearl Jam was largely a jam band that was super good at it and had Eddie Vedder. STP is swimming in the lineage of Rock's pantheon, and easily accessed The Beatles as surely as they did Zeppelin.
@@sanjaykale6235 I hated that. I never saw them as “grunge.” They were filed under “alternative like the grunge bands.” That’s the only connection. But they had so many little accents in their band, from classic rock to jazz to ragtime. It blows my mind that they called copycats. Fckn critics/gatekeepers. They sucked back then, too.
Best hard rock band around…period.
STP is my favorite band, period.
Me too man 🤘🏻
I absolutely loved listening to this in it's entirety. I surely miss these times and Scott Weiland RIP. My 3 favorite singers Scott Weiland Chris Cornell and Layne Staley 😢

Same here! STP were responsible for introducing me to a lot of different genres, especially on Tiny Music.
I always felt so much jazz in stp , the chords so jazzy , and robert deleo bass has got that jazz grove
I was 13 and bought the cassette when it came out I fell asleep every night to this great album.

Really like that the new singer kept the vocalisations the same style - respect
He really is so damned good.

I like the fact that the band has stated that Jeffs act is a tribute to scott and chester

STP and AIC my two fav bands growing up as a young teen. Absolutely amazing sound.
Soundgarden also ,yes?!!!!
I feel your pain... absolutely what's crazy my son is in his 20s and his favorites as well. His first show was in April 2002. Jerry Cantrell/ STP

@@raverave4667 Are you honestly concerned with what someone wears? smh Could you be *more* shallow? lol Honestly, think about what you just stated. I mean *gasp* he wears an "enter item of moral outrage"!!!
It's like you are looking for something...anything...to find fault.
There is not a factory somewhere that just pumps out another Scott Weiland...or *any* vocalist. There are actual human beings...with an entire life history of lived experiences behind them, and each of those *individuals* brings that to their performances.
I'll repeat that...these are actual human beings...each one of them an individual...not intended to be a carbon copy of another.
I don't say this to be mean, but rather to remind you that these people aren't here for YOU. They exist, and live in this world as THEY chose to do so, not as you deem appropriate (or not).
Since no one has ever told you, when you encounter an intensity like Weiland had in his vocal performances, that is *very often* an indication of personality psychopathology...which is the characterological disorder that underlies most all addiction...to alcohol, drugs, gambling, sex, porn, shopping, hoarding...and I know this because I've studied it at a post-doc level for about 7 years full time and another 2 part-time.
That intensity might be awesome for us fans to encounter, but it is a *pure living hell* for the person afflicted with it, and anyone who ever has to work, live with, or love them (romantic, friend, or family member, and most definitely their children).
Maybe don't walk around the world unknowingly wishing that on people. That is something you shouldn't even wish on your worst enemy. That's not hyperbole.
This singer does an awesome job. The DeLeo brothers and Eric Kretz are always what made me like STP.
Spent many nights driving around the back roads of my hometown listening to this album when it came out. One of the best albums and bands of all time. Thanks for posting this!
I once caught a towel from Scott while front row on the rail at a show in the late 90's. He must of thought I needed it more than him. RIP brother. Thanks for this one, guys.
Kitchenware & Candybars such an underrated song. One of the best outro songs ever!

The older I get the more I realize the rare oddity required for bands like STP to meld. Each member reeks of talent and a fresh vision with each album.
Bravo to the recording engineer, camera work, and four badass musicians. The quality of this mix is worthy of a live album release. Damn I miss Scott but Jeff is filling big shoes with dignity. Love you sumbeeshes!
This absolutely RIPS! Undeniable, after all these years... Still incredible! and Jeff fits in perfectly. Outstanding vocal range.

Dean and Robert are just amazing. Kretz has to be one of my favorite drummers ever. His style and being behind the beat is just perfect!
Kretz kills. Without that fn groove, I don't know that we'd have ever heard of these guys. GREAT engineering btw, give that person a raise!
Eric was awesome...!!!!
Eric definitely was underrated. It’s cool that we can hear tracks on UA-cam in the raw and how they sound isolated. He had some awesome grooves throughout STPs catalog. Rick Beato channel had a few examples and the drums were massive. Brendon O’Brien was so instrumental in a lot of 90s bands.
1st time I've seen any rock drummer play with those A&F drums - massive sound.
Such a great groove that guy has. That feel helped make this album such an all time monster. One of my desert island albums.
Absolutely! Eric's extremely laid back groove and tasteful nuances (i.e. all the ghost notes on the snare in Big Empty) on all those albums and live is just as important as all the other elements but almost always overlooked.
Drums, Bass, Guitar, Vocals, Passion, perfect musicianship, pure Genius, tears in my eyes.
The Soundtrack of my youth !
God bless The Stone Temple Pilots ! 🙏🙏🙏
Awesome. Stone Temple Pilots is the So-Cal band that gave the Brit bands a run for their money in the 90's. These guys were the California answer to the Seattle sound up in the NorthWest. I was living in Socal at the time so I'm partial to STP as being the best of them all. I remember every song and every situation I was in whenever I put this album on, cruising the LA streets, hanging out with close friends (who have all but gone away). Thanks guys, your talent is God send and this album is an ABSOLUTE classic. RIP Scott Weiland, cheers and a toast to a brilliant singer / lyricist who sang with passion and from his heart.

This was the wildest time of my life. ‘94 High School Graduate, and rock was at its peak, in my opinion. I wasn’t a big fan of STPs back then, but they’re my favorite band, now. I actually had the privilege of the band sitting next to me and my friends to watch Jane’s Addiction, at Jones Beach, summer of ‘01. They politely asked us if they could sit in the empty seats. They were a nice group.

Long live STP!!! One of best's rock ever written and played
This takes me back! I was in my thirties, an expat Brit living in Southern California, working in a dire job for local govt. I learnt some of these songs by playing along with them on my '69 SG. I was recently divorced and going on a lot of first dates. I should have known then that I am better off alone!
As a old rocker from Michigan, I salute you brother. Big shoes to fill but you make them fit. Proud of you.
Miss Scott and miss Chester. Jeff is great and doing a great job! 🙌🏻👏🏻
I'd forgotten how much I loved this album. I haven't heard it for decades and here I am singing along like it's yesterday.
Beautiful!
When this came out in '94, I was working as a DJ 90 miles from home. Used to drive to work and back 4 nights a week. You bet your ass this CD was playing in my car at least one leg of the journey every night. I've done a bit of singing along myself over the years.
I did not know STP were back... I have just realized a couple of weeks ago with this video. I thought they were not going to continue after Scott´s passing.
Scott was such a great performer, entertainer, showman, frontman...; one of the best, I liked him with STP, Velvet Revolver, and also in his solo album with the Wildabouts.
Nevertheless, watching and listening to this Purple live session (and also to the Core live session) I have realized how good the other original three STP guys are. I knew they were all amazing as a whole, but now even without Scott.
About the new guy, Jeff Gutt, who I did not know, fits perfectly. He nails every note and even has some resemblance with Scott. If this video had been titled with 2012 instead of 2020 it would have been difficult for me to differentiate between the two.
For the past two weeks, I have been listening to their 2018 self titled album and Perdida (2020) and these are two huge albums too. I don´t know how I could not know all of this sooner (it is unforgivable)...
Scott would be really proud.
Long live STP.
Wishing to see them live.
Yeah man I agree with everything you say. Weiland was something else in his prime but I’m a big fan of DeLeo brothers (huge fan of Dean). Just Happy they are playing together
Purple, what a beast of an album. As a teenager at the time I was hooked on the whole grunge scene and would fall asleep listening to music in my discman, wow I feel old. I never tire of listening to this as well as Core. Ironically, Big Empty is my least favorite of the album despite it charting well as a single. So many killer riffs, and Scott taking it the next level with his obscure lyrics and incredible voice. Man, the 90's were the best

STP is timeless. If this came out today it would still blow up the charts. Great songwriters. RIP Scott.
STP didn't blow up the charts in earlier days, at that's one reason, why this band is masterclass. One of the best songwriting but the mainstream has not enough musical intelligence to see/hear it. So STP is one of a kind

I honestly thought this was Scott. I was cooking breakfast for my kids and old lady while watching this and smoking the devils lettuce. Jeff fills in for Scott perfectly but the magic remains Robert, Dean and Eric Kretz. STP is one of the greatest bands ever, so talented musically and the pieces just fit together. Fuck was this amazing to watch.
Oh my God, I had forgotten how good Silvergun Superman sounded! Stunning masterpeace! This thing got me in Kiikoinen Finland back in the 90's. Those where the days, now we are middle aged studs... luckily alive... Salute to Scott❤❤❤
Oh man.. didn't expect to find this performance, pure gold. Love STP!
I can see Scott smiling happily from above!
It's the boys!
There will never be another Scott. The band was 4 people though and the other members deserve to carry on if that’s what they want to do. I’d you don’t like it, don’t watch or listen. I enjoyed this mini concert and love to see them move forward. Making and playing music is what they do. They deserve to keep doing what they love.
Pretty much taught myself drums to this album. Eric Kretz. The dialog between kick and snare...like funk & hip hop. So much space and reserve. Killer guitar tones. And the younger brother is the Wizard. Way to jump in for SW. A gift for all.
My fav band of the era. Not Seattle.
When I got my first car (absolute freedom).., this album was continuously in my CD player! Every song on the album is great!
Absolutely nothing sloppy or half baked here, they sound on point. Hope to see them live soon.
Saw them live before the pandemic hit and I could not believe the level of musicianship. Many bands don't really care to be on point or on par with their studio cleanliness when doing a live show - but these dudes own their sound 100%.
That Bass sounds awesome!
we the ones that were touched by STP and weiland magic still miss him almost everyday, but this performance is outstanding and these pieces of art sound fresh and brilliant
