  • Waited forever to hear this track live. Sorry to say it's been murdered which absolutely kills it which makes me think why even bother doing it by cutting it in half. Still good to hear part of it. Personally I'm a big Tormato fan and well aware the "classic" line up weren't keen the way it turned out. Over the years have spoken to many Yes fans who quite like it. Spoke to Billy Sherwood at the last Glasgow concert and he said he loved it. We agreed it'd be great to hear Future Times/Rejoice, Circus Of Heaven & Release Release etc. Anyway, would've preferred they stuck to the Relayer full album 2020 show which is why I bought the ticket. Good to have them back on the road though. RIP Alan White.

Here's the deal, folks (and I am a Yes fan of 50 years btw)- it's a free world, and if anyone wants to pay to continue to see this, then more power to you....it's your money, and it's your opinion, which you are totally entitled to...my opinion is that I would not go if someone paid me to go,and that is my opinion, and I'm entitled to that...and it does not make me an idiot, and it does not make me a non Yes fan....it simply means that I have moved on....everything has a life span....everything has a shelf life....and it is my opinion that Yes has gone past their shelf life...not saying that there is no talent here anymore...not saying that others could not still find it worthwhile...if you do,then fine...go for it...I have simply moved on,and I am just as entitled to that as anyone who wants to continue to see this is to their desire to do so...

@Jeremy Spade hello Jeremy, thank you for your reply. I was lucky enough to see yes in 78 and so agree with you about line-ups. However, my son who is a guitarist and is probably a bigger Yes fan than I am is too young to have seen the real band, but tickets to see Steve Howe playing his beloved songs were grabbed with relish. A night of Yes songs played live was great. If Jon Anderson tours the UK we'll certainly get tickets as well... Its a shame how Yes fell apart, but I'm pleased my son has been able to see something live.
On a similar note, I was lucky enough to see Genesis with Gabriel but again my son and I have seen The Musical Box a few times, they're great and my son gets the opportunity to see great music played live. It's not so much a choice of line-up, but a choice of music.

Well, I always thought that for 40+ years that this would have been an excellent opening song for a set but, I was thinking more like Anderson, Howe, Squire, Wakeman and White! Now of course it's sad that Alan and Chris are no longer with us and and Jon A & Rick are no longer welcome in the "offical YES' band but, having legal rights to a name and Logo does not make a band. The internet is loaded with tribute bands that are much better than this and its pityful that this has to continue. In additon, I don't want to see Jon Anderson playing the CTTE album with the School of Rock either so, if you guys can't get together in your 70's and put aside your differences and form a solid band to compliment each other then its time to get in that rocking chair by the fire!

When I received a news notification on my cellphone...
Yes drummer Alan White dead at 72...
I thought...NO WAY!...this fn sux! being a lifelong Yes freak...as we were called back in the 1970's...
First Chris...now Alan...turned out to be the truth..the "core" of Yes to me was Chris, Steve and Alan...no disrespect to Jon Anderson...love his voice and lyrics and his spirit to death...but musically and instrument ally....the core of Yes are the 3 members cited...
Didn't matter at that point about my surgery....was more concerned about Alan's family, friends and fans...was very upset that Alan had died..
Great drummer..greater human being...met him at Pechanga Casino in Temecula, CA in 2013, in one of the bars there the afternoon of the show..sat down next to him and during the course of each of us imbibing on a beer..I said to him I that I am a big fan and saw Yes for the first time live in 1976 at Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City, NJ...and he kidded me that that was a long time ago and I must be "old" (was 53 then, just turned 62 last Friday and honestly I don't look or feel 50 years old thank the Lord) and we just got talking about musicians, and the industry general and certain musicians in particular for about 20 minutes...
Just as importantly, Alan White entertained me and enthraled me with his drumming knowledge and prowess and his story telling of days remembered fondly...
As a top drummer in the rock world, Alan will always be honored, appreciated and respected for his drumming style, subtlety, dexterity, ability to change on the fly, progressive outlook, as well as his raw aggressive power...
    .
For 45 plus years, Alan was the heartbeat of and the driving force behind Yes...
Alan always described Yes music and compositions as "looking over the horizon..."...
I COULDN'T AGREE WITH HIM MORE....

Here is what I wrote about the new version of "On the Silent Wings of Freedom."
Awful! They cut off literally 2 1/2 minutes of the instrumental work (the entire bass solo) from the beginning of this song! This is what I would expect Jon Anderson to do (i.e. "America" on his recent tour which eliminated Howe's guitar arrangement), not Yes. I'm also sensing another edit elsewhere in the song. In total, there's 4 minutes gone from the song.
In this case, they shouldn't even waste the time playing it. Savaging a great mini-epic is no way to pay respect to a deep cut from the band's repertoire.
I just figured out a major section that is missing, the first chorus: : "Where we are coming from or where we go
We only know we come with sound
Where we are coming from or where we go
We only know we go around and around"
Since this chorus only appears twice in the song (three times if you include the wordless version), it's probably best not to remove it.
Then, after the next verse ending with "On the flight of regardless feelings/ As you hurtle to fear midst the challenge of everyone," the band cuts off a guitar solo and the wordless vocal restatement of the chorus! By cutting out the chorus melody twice, they are basically removing the glue that holds the song together.
They also cut out the synthesizer solo after the mellow vocal restatement of the basic verse melody, the section that ends with "To the common goal of freedom
Where we offer ourselves midst the balancing of the sun."
I'd say this version of On the Silent Wings of Freedom sounds like a complete fail, especially bewildering because Sherwood, Davison, and Moraz already did a fantastic full-length version of it on A LIFE IN YES: A CHRIS SQUIRE

@@Lewis1key I think Schellen is a very good drummer. You can never really tell what a song sounds like from a video, especially because cell phones tend to cut out booming sounds. My comments are about the editing. This lineup did an excellent job with Topographic Oceans and Drama on the 2016 and 2017 tours-- one of my favorite Yesshows ever, and two very demanding albums to play. But it's six years later and these guys aren't getting any younger. I'm way more worried about Howe not being able to play the guitar parts on "Sound Chaser" than any of the others in the band, although Geoff has limitations too. Consider that it has been over 2 1/2 years since they last performed. I thought "And You and I," "Siberian Khatru," and "Heart of the Sunrise" sounded quite good. Oh no! With the greatest respect to one of my all time favourite bands, this is horrible. Forget the fact the mix is “off” (drums too loud etc) but Geoff simply CAN’T play RW’s keyboard licks rendering this…er…’version’ of “Silent Wings” almost impossible to listen to, let alone enjoy. Jon’s vocals here are also either weak or flat which doesn’t help in the slightest - especially after hearing JA’s voice in the preceding tribute to Alan (RIP). For a while now I’d considered playing certain tracks from “Tormato”, “Relayer” and two of the “Topographic” tracks (not including the acoustic part of “The Ancient”) was now behind the band because they’d no longer be capable of executing the performance - and this video pretty much proves it. I’m now very relieved that the “Relayer” album series tour never happened - even if it meant dragging out “Close To The Edge” (as great as it is) for the umpteenth time. Really, really sorry - as the video here hurts my heart - but Yes as an entity (with no original members to represent it) needs to throw in the towel before more damage to the awesome legacy is done.

Like I said, you are NOT a YES fan; not a Genesis fan either by trying to conflate the two which is just preposterous.
