Hearing The Firebird Suite reminds me of some of the best nights of my entire life....YES concerts!!! Saw them over 30 times in as many years...nothing even comes close in comparison.
Me, too... I thought you looked familiar! The first time I saw them was in Long Island NY in 69 or 70 at Nassau Community College. I was looking for Tony Kaye, but there was this guy with long blond hair behind a million keyboards...
Thank you Yes. It is because of you, that I was introduced to the transformative music of Igor Stravinsky. (Not to mention many important works of literature, including the Vedas and the writing of Yogananda. Long Live Yes!!!
This video just makes me happy. Having witnessed this intro many times it does my heart proud & a twinge of sadness - we’ll never see this great lineup again live.
This is the way Yes should always open a concert. I have been going to their concerts since 1971 and the last few times we have seen their concerts, they have elected to not use this. It has broken many a fan's heart. The concert doesn't begin until we hear the suite. Keep it in please boys. If it is not, I leave with a half empty heart.
I loved it when this opening song segued into Parallels. Great opening song for a great show. Thank you Yes for reminding me that I have lived in an era of wonderous stories.
Saw them with the ultimate lineup in 73 at Long Beach. Each performers skills were showcased in an incredible show I will never forget. Such raw and amazing talent.
I Love their version of The Firebird Suite ! Yes was an amazing band. Their concerts felt like you were in an alternative spiritual reality where anything was possible. Truly a wonderful band
and btw, Yes is probably one of the most talented progressive bands that there is. Maybe it's not in your taste, but don't hate on the band. They are quite amazing.
@TasmiaMallor I saw them only three times, but one of those occasions was at Nov. 24th 1977, when 'Parallels' and 'Wonderous Stories' of the Yesshows Live Album were taped. The first time was the tour following 'Tales from Topographic Oceans' and the third the 'Reunion' tour. All starting with 'Firebird Suite' of course!
I saw the Firebird last night at the Albert Hall, was amazing. I have to confess, it was impossible not to picture Jon Anderson walking out on stage on that brass chord towards the end!
You do realize they've opened many concerts throughout their entire career with The Firebird I hope. It wasn't just this one time. I'm not understanding why it's so inappropriate to open a concert of extremely talented musicians with such a beautiful piece of music.
I think it shows that the really top musicians (whether prog rock or others) understand and appreciate, and were perhaps influenced by, the great classical composers of the past.
This opening has been the work horse for 39 %^&*($#years folks!Except one tour .Going For The One employed Britton's Symphony For young People. It was majestic in Providence. Some must have pissed their pants,Yes always know how to get you when you least expect it.
After supplying their fans for over 40 years with some of the best progressive rock music they've ever heard, I think they kind of entitled to that here and there don't you think?
@@akumakumakuma1 Firebird is a ballet. There is a suite that Stravinsky extracted from the longer ballet. This is neither ballet nor suite, it's just the last 2 minutes of the ballet with a bunch of hicks whistling and cheering.
True - this is simply the Finale of the Suite… thank you for pointing this out. It’s my opinion that to really appreciate the Finale, one should listen to all of the movements leading up to the Finale.
@@akumakumakuma1 I can't count the number of times I've shared your comment with people in the last 2 years! Seeing someone like you - ignorant, but so damn unaware of the depth of their ignorance that they've reached for the capslock and asterisks - triggers loud guffaws every time someone reads it!!
What?!?!? All they did was walk onstage to a pre-recorded orchestral performance. Where's the musicianship here? I am getting the chilling feeling that, like in the 70's, Yes is still your basic pseudo-intellectual "poser band."

No matter how many times I listen to this, it always gives me the chills, and I've seen them just once!
I made love to my wife last night, listening to the complete song...
Thank you Yes. It is because of you, that I was introduced to the transformative music of Igor Stravinsky. (Not to mention many important works of literature, including the Vedas and the writing of Yogananda.
Long Live Yes!!!

This is YES
They use that piece as a sound check-to make sure they're all on!!
No, the Finale to Igor Stravinsky’s masterwork “The Firebird Suite” played at a Yes concert, Lugano Festival Jazz 2004.
You must be a blast a parties...
@@msmmann Actually, I really am. Thanks buddy. 🤣
Squire is such a badd ass.
@lookingfortalent2007

Watch this at UA-cam: "Yes in Lugano '04 - Firebird/Going For The One".
I haven't seen it released on DVD anywhere unfortunately...

@jjdohert49
Sounds like the Fantasia 2000 recording.
@lookingfortalent2007 I would say Going for the One

@lookingfortalent2007 hum..I would say Siberian Khatru. yes?
a bit too fast. yet in tune.
How is this a "suite"? ... it's simply the end of Firebird
Because… Firebird ****IS***** a suite? nor a symphony, not a nocturno, not a concerto, but ***A SUITE***??

You see, it's things like this that make everyone think classical music is for pretentious snobs.
I don't care, still sounds awesome to me. And I was born in the late '90s.
Wow that was unbelievably lame. They basically used that piece to walk all over. Are they really that self centered?
You sound self-centred to me.

What do you like instead?
Really? Just really?? Why do people like you have to ruin the moment for others?
u should go see it, its a great way to open a show, your being very close minded and why be her if ur gonna be moaning about the music
