Got this at a raffle yesterday for MSRP. People picked ahead of me were clamoring for the Elijah Craig toasted barrel. When I saw that the Michter's was still available, it was a no brainer. This is probably my favorite pour of 2023.
100% agree with your comparisons of the 2020 & 2023. The 2023, to me, is so sweet it makes it more difficult to cut through to those flavors like graham crackers and marshmallows that I get so easily in the 2020 version.
If you can find it, don't know the availability or distribution, King's Family Distillery has a Ryeconic Toasted which is a triple oaked rye. Absolutely delicious, in my opinion. Great video as always, keep 'em coming!
Was on vacation and went to a store in RI. Walked in and there was a michters barrel strength toasted rye. No price on it so I asked how much? The girl says 42.99…. Needless to say I ran out of that store with a smile on my face
Great review! You should add the 9yr Four Gate toasted rye Mash and Journey pick for a triple bass. That bottle was epic and fits with the proof range. Cheers!
Jason, very much agreed on Toasted expressions being more conplext and better balanced with rye's. Toasted Rye releases of Penelope and ASW Fiddler are no exception except that the bourbon versions are really buttery and soft, but rye spice takes it over the top. If you have an opportunity to get an ASW Toasted Rye or bourbon, don't hesitate to get both. Great thought to compare JD TBHB Rye. Char def comes thru and both great toasted ryes allowing more options for enthusiasts.and the community. Cheers on a great video.
Thanksgiving day pickup for $198.00. Everything here is marked up including Buffalo Trace for $50 for 750 ml and Blantons for $99 for 375 ml. Looks like barrel number 23G2612 at 109.8 proof on my bottle.
Just picked up a bottle and mine is 110.4 proof. Easily in the top 3 ryes I've ever tasted. It's rare to find something this complex with all of the flavors complimenting each other.
Got to try this and the 10 year rye at a big tasting recently and the toasted is fantastic. Hard truth was there with a sweet mash wheated bourbon and they were tied for the best whiskeys at the event. As far as what point something stops being whiskey I think amburana is the line, I’ve never had something finished in amburana that hasn’t been completely overwhelmed by it.
Maybe its stops being bourbon (as bourbon technically can’t be finished, thats why labels always say “finished in”), but its certainly doesn’t stop being whiskey. Whiskey is just distillate from fermented grain and then put into wooden containers. Amburana does not change any of that, as amburana is wood
Well aware of what bourbon/whiskey and amburana are but thank you for the clarification. His question was just more so about what point finishing over takes the whiskey and I think amburana does that for me. I don’t like that idea of distilleries using a finish gimmick to move bad whiskey.
Just picked up 3 at lunardis grocery store in Los Gatos California for 55 bucks per apiece so stoked I get to drink one and hide the other 2 for thanksgiving and Christmas 😅
So many good bottles this year... The only one can think of right away that was better last year was probably the 13Th Colony Double Oak.... regardless 2023 Great Year for Pours... Cheers Everyone
I totally agree with your opinion on toasted/DO products. Rye’s do a better job of balancing the sweet & spiciness. FYI-they stopped making that Michter’s shirt. I just stopped into the gift shop.
Dude you gotta try Sagamore Double Oak Rye. Sagamore is doing an amazing job in the rye world and is a fantastic alternative to all this hyped stuff. Would love to see them get some recognition.

I was offered one for a little below that MSRP. I asked the store manager if they had tried it and they advised no but they would like to, so we cracked it right. They know I always appreciate being able to get the allocated items so I have no problem letting them try it or fill a sample bottle. 😎🥃cheers
@@TheMashandDrum I was just referring to your comment about double oaked matching better with ryes because it's a sweet bomb with bourbon. I completely agree with you!!
Stops becoming whiskey when it no longer hits the definition. So proof, additives, and mash ingredients. Just cause you don’t like purely sweet bourbon, that doesn’t change the definition or what other people may like😂

Great call Jason! Have a different bottle but all the same notes. This bottle is 🔥. Cheers 🥃
I got a predominant butterscotch note on the mid palate with the Michters Toasted Barrel Rye. That was the sweet note that I think I enjoyed.

Love this bottle. Thanks for the review. Really one of the only double barrels i've liked.
Tried this before watching your video and I said graham cracker, molasses, and burnt marshmallow. Sounds like we were spot on.
I can never find this bottom but luckily i live in Maryland and have my choice of any Sagamore product known to man
That Michters is my 2023 rye of the year
Jd twice barreled, Michters toasted, and peerless double oaked rye for the blinds

That King’s “Thrice” barreled rye is absolutely divine! So lucky they are within an hour of me.
Was on vacation and went to a store in RI. Walked in and there was a michters barrel strength toasted rye. No price on it so I asked how much? The girl says 42.99…. Needless to say I ran out of that store with a smile on my face
Yeah I did get mine in the NEX Bethesda for $87 no tax... can't complain
Shoulda bought them all!
I'm positive they were not priced correct but at that price buy a case
Great review! You should add the 9yr Four Gate toasted rye Mash and Journey pick for a triple bass. That bottle was epic and fits with the proof range. Cheers!
What is going to happen when sagamore releases a toasted rye.
They do have a double oak offering.
Yeah and it is delicious. But what if they went toasted. Just wondering. That sherry cask finish is my jam right now.
The Sherry cask is 👌🏻
I think the double oak is a wave stave toasted barrel on the Sagamore. It’s amazing love it
I’m gonna buy it 😂

Love your work Jason
Look at that beautiful Glen!
Masterful review, good job, Jason 👍
Great review!!
so does anybody argon gas their bottles? was wondering because i have on some bottles but wondered if i should just let them get the air.
Just tried the Michters and I really like it. The JD to me or mine is way oakier although I do like that as well
Nice review, buddy. Been curious about this one. Crazy, at $200 It's the least expensive of the their spl rels in NY. Cheers
Great review Jason cheers

Bowmore 21 and 22 Aston Martin limited edition. Have you tried it and if it's worth it can you do a review?
Just picked up a bottle today
Love zbiotics! Such a great pre drink
If you add a third bottle for a tasting I suggest Sagamore Rye Double Oaked.
Just picked up 3 at lunardis grocery store in Los Gatos California for 55 bucks per apiece so stoked I get to drink one and hide the other 2 for thanksgiving and Christmas 😅
How do these compare with Driftless Glen's Rye?
I 100% agree that the Jack is more smokey. They're both great but I lean towards the Michter's. I have to blind them as well. Great review!
So many good bottles this year... The only one can think of right away that was better last year was probably the 13Th Colony Double Oak.... regardless 2023 Great Year for Pours... Cheers Everyone
Wow, sounded awesome. The Darth Vader of Rye! Thanks for sharing, cheers!
MBSR > MTBR all day! Great info... Thanks man!!
Peerless double oak rye and the JdTB Rye vs this would be a good matchup
I was able to find this and found a week of air time really made a different. I want to blind it against Parker’s heavy char rye.
Just had this with a flight at Michter's a coupe weeks ago. I prefer the 10 year or SB over the toasted, as did 3 others in our group.
I still like the barrel strength overall
I totally agree with your opinion on toasted/DO products. Rye’s do a better job of balancing the sweet & spiciness. FYI-they stopped making that Michter’s shirt. I just stopped into the gift shop.
Got 2 @$150… and it is beautiful
You got a WT Generations??!🤯👀

iykyk 🤐 try the sherry cask it's so lovely
Good one.
I wonder how a Mich Daniels Toasted would taste? cheers
Just copped a bottle for 99$
I have 23G2550 108.9 proof
Got one for $70🔥
Heard it’s the best since ‘17, not better just best second option
Hey Jason, while your in Colorado, you gotta grab a single barrel of Woody Creek. You'll thank me later!
Triple base with pursuit united oak collection rye
I have to ask where your getting ask if these bottles? It's from jealousy but let me know your hook up lol. Cheers

MICHTER’S FOR THE WIN❗️🏆
Peerless DO Rye / Michter’s Toasted Rye / JD Twice Barreled Rye
Toasted, double oaked, finished... I'm over them all
I spy WT Generations 🤔🤔 When is that review coming out?
As soon as I get more info
Wish I could pay this price. A store up the street is charging $500 for this bottle. Same with there 10yr Rye. That’s out of control
Scored one for $80

That's the way to do it. Good on you buddy.
Nice ! Blind them against Booker's RYE.
@TheWhiskeyReaper absolutely ckry
169👍
It's pronounced "star anise" not "star anise"
I'm taking you aren't a fan of Woodford Double Oaked. That shit is waffles drenched in syrup.
I do like it but the low proof makes it a tough matchup

I agree, balance over sweet. Ive got one of the 2021 toasted ryes. Its a great pour. That said, jack again throwing their weight around
