- MAC Eyeshadow Declutter. It's a long one, better settle in with a cup of tea and a crumpet. ;D
Here it is, finally... The first and only time I will ever do a MAC eyeshadow palette declutter. So what's the story on these? I started collecting MAC eyeshadows 6 years ago. It was the first high end makeup I had ever purchased. The UA-cam beauty community was in it's early stages and my love affair with makeup had just begun. It was all new and exciting to me. I was watching Kandee Johnson and other amazing UA-camrs doing their tutorials with MAC eyeshadows. I'm sure it's sounds ridiculous now, but I remember thinking "I want to use what the professionals are using." I knew nothing about makeup. I mean I tried to look decent with my brown L'Oreal eyeliner and mascara (er uh... I thought it was eyeliner, but one day I looked and realized it was actually a brow pencil, but hey I liked the color lol. ;) Anyway, I was so excited to discover this new hobby, I wanted to learn everything. MAC was the hottest brand on the block back then. The early days of the UA-cam beauty community, was kind of like the golden years, it felt more about the art. I felt really inspired by tutorials and slowly began collecting MAC eyeshadows.
The last time I purchased a MAC eyeshadow was almost 3 years ago. When I first decluttered in 2012, I refused to let go of any. I was very attached to them. So I kept them for 2 more years, to see what I used and what I didn't. Now for the first time, I'm ready to sort through them all and clean out any that I haven't worn within the past year. No product will go to waste, all eyeshadows I let go of, I'm passing onto a family member.

I think you are some sort of gods creature sent on earth to calm peoples minds and obsessions with things. Every single time I see your video, its like spa - I get clear, calm and refreshed mind, free of "needs" that I dont really need and "wants" that I dont really want. Its you, what you do, your voice, where you live, how you live! Such a complete combination of a person and a place-I have never seen anything like this before. Dont EVER EVER stop making videos. omg christine, you let go over of over 500$ in mac eyeshadows alone. i think that's an awesome lesson to all of us about not getting caught up in the hype of a brand!

It's disgusting how much money most UA-camrs waste on things they will rarely if ever even use when there are so many people that have nothing and need help. It's really great that you are learning from your mistakes and sharing the information with others. Keep up the good work.
i remember some of my first mac e/s i purchased back in 2008 - shale, scene, cranberry , black tied,bronze, mulch, amber lights, satin taupe, contrast, club, creme de violet, swish,crystal, beauty marked, humid- all goodies in my book! thanks for sharing your decluttering, i love mac videos !=)
I'm crying inside! I love all those colors you are getting rid of! I totally understand your reasoning though. xoxo by the way... I have about a hundred MAC shadows and I love them all. Really, I do use them all. I keep them in rotation.

I know that "i spent so much money, i should just try to find a way to use it feeling". Sadly, it just tends not to work out. And i kept having flashbacks to the past as you decluttered, especially with all the neutrals. Soba, woodwinked, wedge, the list goes on and on. .
I think decluttering is a process and sometimes you have to take baby steps. When I watched you at the beginning of 2012--I had a feeling you would get to the point where you are right now. What a great feeling you must have!
I found you a few days ago, and you have inspired me! I started decluttering my bedroom today, and I just kept thinking about this video whenever I had trouble letting go of something! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

OMG that's crazy!!! That first pallet was over $200 of eyeshadow. I just can never imagine my self spending that much on makeup. The most expensive things in my collection are a Mac foundation $29 and the lorac pro $42.
It IS totally crazy! Even though they were collected over a period of years. It still adds up to being completely absurd. Save yourself! Don't make the mistakes I did. ;)
pinksofoxy But you've learned out of it and developped yourself and that's the most important thing. And regarding how us UA-cam viewers in general have begun to collect makeup products without even making videos and showing our treasures to the world, it isn't even as bad ;)

After watching your videos, I have decluttered a lot. Went down from a full helmer and a deep drawer full of blushes to a small make-up case/toiletry-bag. And I love it! Only have my faves. I went through my whole collection 2 years ago and only kept what I use and love, except for the Mac shadows ( I just couldn't do it at the time! I love only having what I love(5 lipsticks, 1 foundation, ect.) and have only repurchased empties. I've saved so much money. This has inspired me to get to the Mac palettes and finally let go😳of what I don't use. I even cleaned out my subscription box and got rid of UA-camrs that enabled my hoarding!!
You have inspired me so much! I think I'm slowly getting there... Doing a section of the house a day... Sometimes small sections such as "I will declutter my containers" instead of " the kitchen" small sections work well for me. Thank you! X
I'm surprised that no one is amazed you managed to remember and recognized the name of each eyeshadow before even lifting them off. Like that's insane memory to me. I don't own any Mac but I might try out their foundation. I don't think I can ever justify spending $15(?) for an eyeshadow color when great palette of 10 colors are only around $50.
If you do go for anything MAC, I wouldn't suggest their foundation. I tried it once, and it just looked so cakey and ended up creasing on my skin.

I know this is late, I use their makeup and love it. I use their foundation on a daily basis, if you use the pump 1 pump of the foundation is honestly all you need. you don't look cakey if you don't apply as much. their makeup may be expensive but trust me it lasts you months if using it every day to where it makes it worth it.
They're individual pans are now $6, the same as Makeup Geek, so if you have a z-palette (or anything of the sort) you could just buy one or two of those

Quick Question: I always thought you weren't supposed to keep eye products for very long--- 6 months mascara and 12 months eye shadow--- due to possible bacteria contact with your eyes??? any idea if that's correct??
Your family member is gonna be happy! I think it's great that you did this. I can still remember when you were going to the MAC store to get the Marilyn Monroe collection and it was practically sold out. It was right after that you started this process, I think. And then I started my process. Awesome!
You've done such an amazing job of streamlining your make-up collection into a usable make-up stash. It's been a lot of fun and eye-opening as well going on this journey with you. And this video did not disappoint. I can't imagine what might be up next be I'm already looking forward to it along with an updated make-up inventory.

Wow I love this post! Once again you have completely inspired me to go through my things and give them to someone who will enjoy them and find use in them! I had a huge thing for MAC eye shadows until I discovered Makeup Geek. I love how Makeup Geek eye shadows fit in MAC palettes, seeing that I was turned off by buying Makeup Geek shadows, because I didn't like how z-palettes looked.

Omg, I could not watch this. I could not believe how many beautiful colors you are getting rid of. I just couldn't do it. Maybe I would give some to nieces if I absolutely do not use them. I applaud you for being able to do this.
I have been so inspired to really go through my makeup and declutter and eyeshadows have been my hardest to let go of even if I never wear them 😱
Good job! I have the same thing with the large MAC palettes and I am just hanging on to them for no good reason - I just get anxiety when I think of letting them go. But I need to be a "grown up" and declutter!! You are an inspiration!

I totally agree that there are just so many different brands that do great buttery eyeshadows now. There's definitely some impulse buys of Inglot shadows I need to get rid of. As fun as it was making the palettes, there colors I never wear.

Great job decluttering! One thing that made it easier for me to let go of things was asking myself if it enhanced my life enough to keep it and if whatever it was really looked that much different or better than the others. I just remember looking at a Bobbi Brown palette where the colors looked different enough in the palette but when I swatched them they looked nearly the same! That was one of my "oh my!" moments where I realized that I was buying just to buy.

I am only 13 seconds into this video and am excited and scared. Your decluttering is rubbing of on me. I have way too much stuff and get hooked on pretty collections. I love my MAC collections so we will see at the end if I can get rid of some of my shadows.

Your memory of the names amazes me!!! While you put yourself "out there" , you are certainly not alone in buying the Macs in the day...I have a drawer full -- but not for long....just wish I had a place to send them besides the garbage. May I never get fever for shadow again :)
Yay, done! Great job :) I have to say, I just love the filming perspective, feels like I would sit myself in front of the shadows and go through them ;) I could see the colors much better (since I personally own only like five Mac eye shadows) and maybe understand why you let them go. Shell actually is one of my favorite shades and textures (compared to other brands, too). I didn't even realized you still had that many. I see much fun video ahead of us :)
You have an amazing memory to be able to know the names of your colors. I get that makeup is important to you so you would be better than me but its still amazing to know all those names.
Hello Christine, I've been following your channel for over 2 years now & follow your throughout your declutter journey & you have inspired me so much. I cleaned out my make-up stash & parted with more than half of my collection. Though my MAC eyeshadows remain untouched, I'm still too attached to them haha.
Thanks a lot!! It was a very very very interesting and good video! By the way I decided for myself not to buy whole palettes in the future (if I want one), but to choose shades I really need from this palette and to buy it separately. For example, I am interested in Naked 3 palette, but honestly I decide to buy just shade Dark side separately (when UD will start to sell it).

So love this!!! Even though I only own drugstore makeup no highend, my collection is overwhelming bc i became obsessed & buy too many things. Sooo with my baby girl on the way and moving im finally coming to grips of letting go. I know its so hard to justify getting rid of even my cheap makeup bc i work hard for my money but now i see how wasteful a huge collection is esp if i cant use it... thanks for the inspiration!!!
I don't own any MAC and this will definitely save me from falling down the MAC rabbit hole:o Good for you. This was awesome. My eyeshadow weakness are the Dior 5-color palettes. Luckily they're not very affordable. I have one so far. Keep going, girl!

Christine..Oh how I admire you...Thinking of how much they cost..I'm not sure I could let them go..I have never had a Mac shadow so I don't know the texture..etc...I do have a bunch of inexpensive eyeshadow..and I have a very hard time letting go..Hugs to you..Loretta
Regarding Mac Club.. I bet you would like TF Girly more, I know I do. It's similar but pulls orange/green instead of brown/blue. I don't know if they made it in a single though.. it's in the Pretty Rebel palette and also the new Everything Nice holiday set. A similar color that is sold singly is Kat Von D shadeshifter shadow in Devotion.. it's kind of the opposite of Girly where Girly starts green and shifts orange, it starts orange and shifts green. I buy very few singles but that one is worth it.
I agree that a nail polish declutter would be awesome also.
How did you store your makeup and nail polishes when you went away to travel? Did you guys rent a storage unit? Maybe you could do a video on storage tips 😊 I love your videos by the way!

Part 2:::::i have let go of lots of stuff. When I first got breast cancer in 2005 had lot of makeup, gave it all away on chemo it reacted bad with skin, became skincareaholic. Then I could wear again in late 2010, came here to get ideas of on trend makeup, I way overdid it, Thanks for the No But Declutter Push. Why let $thousands$ sit and waste and go bad. Im almost to just what I will use and love using. Thank You so very much Hugs!!
Tip:
As of right now, MAC's potted single shadows are $16 and the pans are $10 (prices have gone up and down within the past four years). Back To MAC is a cool program if you're returning packaging for products that aren't available in pan form. But if you're buying potted eyeshadows and blushes that you plan on depotting anyway in order to B2M them, just buy the pans. Not only is it cheaper, but the extra you spend on the packaging combined ends up costing you more than a single lipstick (currently $16). So the free lipstick you get isn't really free for you if you're purposely spending more. I know some people already know this, but I see a lot of bloggers on here buy potted products just to depot the pans and B2M the packaging for a free lipstick. It doesn't make sense to do that. The pans already have magnets attached anyway, so you don't even have to go through the trouble of depotting anything.

Copperplate is my all-time fave MAC eyeshadow. It looks deceptively ordinary in this vid but it is so unique and awesome. I haven't been able to find a suitable dupe.

Great video. The collections do add up over time. I can honestly say MAC eyeshadows I only have three. I do love the MAC lipsticks. I have two of the MAC to the beach marine life highlite powder Loved it when I bought it. Thought it worked for me at the time. I didn't use for a while. Used it yesterday now the color looks way to dark on me. (My son saids I'm 2 shades away from albino). I am debating what to do with them. One is hardly touched the seashorse imprint is on it. While the other one is brand new still in the box. Lesson learned don't buy backups unless it will work for me all year round and years down the road.
Omigosh... I'm gonna drive down the mountain and shop your stash instead of going into MAC. lol j/k. I haven't been to the MAC counter in ages it seems... and haven't renewed my pro membership in a few years. It's probably been 3 years I think since I bought any eyeshadows. I love your declutter vids... awesome as always. :D
Lol most of the shadows you got rid of from your "colourful" palette I totally use everyday...those warm yellow/orange shades would be fantastic on your deeper skin tone as blending/crease shades
