As an American military Veteran. This is absolutely sad to see. A military force that can’t even supply their own for longer than a week is more or less going to be an absolute failure. As the saying goes. “An army marches on their stomachs, not their feet.”

These guys are stealing beers, chocolate and stuff like that. It's not like the army supplies them with this kind of stuff... It's kind of unavoidable really, the same thing happens in all wars (including Iraq and Afghanistan, though in later stages, actual fast food stores moved in to serve soldiers in well-established bases in these countries), because soldiers also want to drink/have fun in their "free time" but there's no "fun stuff" being supplied from the army itself.

If you are Russia, why spend more money than you need when you can just take from the country you are invading. When the Ukrainians leave then need to be taking or destroying the food that would have been left behind (or just put something nasty in it to make them think twice about stealing more food from you)

My mum is from Austria. After the war the country was devided into sectors, British, French, Russian and American. In the Russian sector they took everything and I mean EVERYTHING! If you went into a school for example, they'd taken all the chairs, tables, blackboards and even chalk! To this day you can still see the remains of the Soviets, those areas just look more deprived

Soldiers stealing chocolate and beers is more common than you'd think. The army doesn't supply them this kind of stuff. The Americans did it, the Russians do it, the Chinese will do it -- it's how armies and men are organized all over the world.
You can't blame men fighting in a war for wanting some beer and some snickers. I was in the army back in my country for 4 years as a 2nd lieutenant and if I ever had to fight in another country I'd do the same.
The Americans did it in Iraq and Afghanistan, though in later stages of the war, fast food companies moved in to serve soldiers at the bases so if guys wanted beer and snacks, they could just buy it. It's not like Russian soldiers can go and buy food with Ukrainian currency in an Ukrainian store.

As a former “Cold Warrior”, serving in the US Army during 80’s and 90’s, I am absolutely gobsmacked by how ill-prepared the Russian Army is during a live military operation?! I suggested a week ago that this operation could reveal Russian forces as nothing more than a paper tiger, but it was said in jest. Sending an invasion force into a country with only 3 days of rations speaks to how horribly the Russian war planners prepared for this operation. Russia might have some frightening weapon systems, but they are worthless if manned by hungry, terrified soldiers who claim to not know they were even at war. Putin’s Army has terrified no one, it’s hard not to have sympathy for these young Russian men who appear unwilling or unable to fight. Morale among the Ukrainian defenders should sky rocket upon hearing this news. Despite any sympathy I might have for the poorly trained, unprepared Russian soldiers, I stand with the Ukrainians, who are have provided phenomenal defense of Ukraine despite the circumstances of being completely alone on the ground.
I think it speaks to the Russian leadership knowing how wrong they are to start this war that they knew they had to lie to their own and hide it by not supplying them.
Toe Cutter, Putin's message didn't cut through with ordinary Russians or the rest of the world, but everyone who reports to him was afraid to tell him this. Or maybe the table was too long to write the report to him?

Some dude had the theory that invasion build-up was only ever intended as a bluff to spook Ukraine into making concessions, and that the the actual invasion was a somewhat desperate snap decision, again intended to scare the Ukrainian government into making concessions. It could partially explain why many Russian units appear woefully underprepared. To maintain plausible deniability I guess a lot of middling officers, and especially the regular troops, were kept in the dark until the last day or so, at which point there wasn't nearly enough time to properly organize such a large troop movement.
I suppose we won't really know the truth until long after this is all done.

I do not doubt their capability, for me it just shows that even their army does not know what is their actual mission in Ukraine. War is so awful. Humans have been fighting each other since the beginning of time. There is nothing honorable about winning in war, everyone loses. War is destructive and brings suffering to everyone involved. I can't imagine being a russian soldier and the desperation they are in and the traumatic things they went through. And I'm sure the civilians of Ukraine will be forever scarred by the things they see. I hope we can stop putting each other through hell just to satisfy an elite group of people who treat war like a game and treat people's lives like mere numbers. Ukraine is doing a good job of cutting supply lines. Taking away gas and food has hurt them badly. Russian soldiers need to understand that they still have a chance to get out while they still can.

They are not failing. Putin sent their youngest, most inexperience soldiers. That's why the food supply is low. They were not expected to survive for 1 week. This is only wave 1. Not even 5% of their troops are deployed. Don't be fooled by the USA propaganda.

Looting is not a new thing in war.
Many have pointed out Russia's logistics problems, long before the invasion started.
Another problem seems to be unexperienced young soldiers with low moral.
Most of the Ukrainian regular forces, have some combat experience from the conflict in the two break away regions.
And they got a lot of anti armour weapons. Some of the best in the world.
And the Ukraniens are Nazis. That Putin Pyscho sends these Stooges to kill, Destroy and steal. War criminals just how Crazy wants them.🇺🇦🙏🧟♂️

Actually all invading armies rely on taking supplies where they go, also to prevent the defenders having them. The blame does not lie with soldiers but the crazy and shocking decision of Putin and all the leaders to invade Ukraine, bad decisions that led to this which will come back to haunt them and so many, the defenders have shown us just how brave people can be when they are attacked, very humbling to watch.

In some respects it is okay to take small amounts of food if you have none but robbing banks is awful.
They should have a supply line backing them while the civilians left in the cities haven't.
They should have left with sufficient army rations to begin with, therefore having absolutely no reason to take from civilian supplies.
Why didn't they get ordered to take enough with them?
I suspect because it would have raised questions and high command didn't want to tell them the truth about what they'll be ordered to do...

They were told they were going on training exercises then told to cross the border and invade or be shot. As you see they didn't have enough food and their tanks ran out of gas. But there were also reports that Russian soldiers were punching holes in tank gas tanks so they wouldn't have to continue

During the night of 10-11. two Soviet battalions surrounded the partial Finnish regiment, the fighting lasted all night with Soviet troops attacking from every side. Finns were really tired, they had spent ten days trying to hold the Soviets off, waiting for reinforcements, constantly retreating lowering morale. Then the starving Soviets happened upon the Finnish field kitchen, and the smell of cooking sausage soup (cut up vegetables, mainly potato, with cut up pieces of sausage, still eaten to this day), the soviet troops immediately stopped what they were doing, abandoned their positions, and started raiding the kitchen. Finns were able to use this moment to gain the upper hand and attack back. Finns won the battle. Finns lost 20 and the Soviets 180 soldiers.
