I ran my own recruitment agency and had a look at the list not the current, and shook my head in disbelief. At least 1/4 of those skills are available in SA and should not be on the list.

The thing is that critical skills in South Africa changes so fast , it’s not static

That’s so true, there’s a lot of skills that is no longer considered critical skill, one just have to stay updated at all times.

How fast is fast and what do you expect when we live in ever changing times.

What I have noticed is that the critical skills they talk about, are people who are already employed by the international company/corporation that is moving to SA or already doing business here. If Tesla for example want to invest in SA, they will bring some people with technical skills along. The government is traying by all means to discourage people from other countries to seek employment here, because there are many skilled people, who cant find employment in SA. I currently work with lady from Uganda, but she was employed by an organization based in Europe and was deployed to South Africa.

Oh I get exactly what they are trying to achieve.

That is not true. SA critical skills have nothing to do with companies coming here and everything to do with the current shortage of skills across sectors. I ran my own recruitment and labour broking agency, a stakeholder in the process, recruitment agencies are very much part of the process. The list is revised every 2 or so meaning a company coming to SA in 2025 would not have participated in a report that came out in 2024. You are talking about one person.

@@rorirory121 I acknowledge that you miss understood my comment. I am not good in English. But I never said there are sectors that are excluded. Secondly, just gave an example of one person I am working with, of which I didn't mean she is the only person. In my field of work, we meet with companies such as BMW, Ford and others. We also meet with companies from renewable energy sectors. They tell us what skills they struggle with. Sometimes they don't have to recruit from outside South Africa, but retrain those who are in that space. That's why companies offer scholarships, bursaries, and leaderships. Ford and BMW has brought some skilled people from USA and Germany respectively. For government to publish scares skills list, is to say to people from other countries that if your skills are not listed here, don't bother. After all, Labour broker exist to make money out. If you say it is not true, you must say which part of my comment is not true.

@@jabulanithema1467 Labour brokers exist to make money? And you exist to sell cheap labour. Next time dont comment on subjects you know nothing about, theres no harm in not commenting. And such a long essay, was it meant for me, because i didnt read it i only spotted the line on labour brokers. Your stupid incompetent government created labour brokers and tenders.

I dont know any South African or foreign engineer in SA that has no job. You must be talking about foreigners who qualified from universities that arent recognised in South Africa. If he came from a reputable university he wouldnt waste time unemployed in SA he would leave.

Thats rubbish you didnt get permit because your skill is not technical or not in healthcare.
SA doesnt just say NO to technical skilled applicants with NQF aligned qualifications.
I did recruitment and currently from time to time recruit for my projects and receive applications from foreign nationals with work permits on the passports, (in the past it was a printout which some would lose).
