I moved to America 30 years ago from Nigeria .We made all these mistakes until we as a family for years until we realized that we did not have to keep up with the Jones ! We educated ourselves and completely changed the way we handled our finances . We started savings from every pay check and vowed to use only cash for all purchases !Today we have a 4 bedroom house, mortgage paid off in 20 years , two cars paid off , and NO CREDIT CARD DEBT!! We do use credit cards to purchase as that is the safest way to buy , but every thing we buy we save for months in advance . The best thing we did was to invest in a system called 401k , which is the US self retirement savings and we are at a combined $800,000 and we are heading to a million ! We did not build a house in Nigeria ,but we did buy land and built wall and boys quarter .If we decide to retire in Nigeria then we will go there and build the house ! Maybe I should start a UA-cam channel!
Very apt! My strategy is this, whatever credit amount you are taking, make sure you have it saved away for every of your credit account. For those trying to increase their credit score and don't get more than two credit accounts. Also, try buying some expensive "necessities" by cash fully paid, the retailer usually reports it to your bank and your bank further reports it to various credit agencies which helps your credit score. Borrowing and paying on time is not the only way to build your credit score. Thanks for the advice. All what you said are facts and reasons many members of our black communities whether immigrants or non-immigrants are struggling financially because we do not pay attention to our finances. Finally, get a second hustle usually a small business.
LIAR LIAR PEOPLE DONT LESSON TO THIS FAKED STORY STAY IN YOUR OWN BACK YARD YOU MAY STRUGLE BUT YOU WONT BE INSULTED EVERYDAY OF YOUR LIFE ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE OF AFRICA
Yeah! Invest first where you are… make yourself a land lord or buy yourself a house in the diaspora before you build in your home country but make sure you buy land in your home country if you did not get one from your ancestors
Welldone Bro. Great content. Yours is not for entertainment or gossip, it is real life. I have lived here for close to 2 decades now. Had to learn the hard way amd now being able to advise new immigrants. To add to your point, which you mentioned, in some ways is for our people to stop competing. Stop being greedy. Someone comes in newly, you see a doctor who has been here for about 5 years with a jeep, you want to jump on the car finance and also get a jeep. Another thing, like you mentioned, people should check people out, before following their advise. Check their track record . You can't flow with someone whose mind set is low, even if they confess to be christians. Someone who believes that you can't rise to leadership because you are black, someone who believes that it is only care/low skilled work that Nigerians can do. People should ask God to point them to Nigerians with skill, right mindset and Godly, who are making it and are willing to help. There are many of them. Keep the good work.!
This video is one of the most important videos I have seen. I love your level of honesty, understanding and articulation. I hope many people will see this video and learn from it. It is just perfect for the time. Thank you brother.
There’s nothing wrong with credit, but usage is very important! I made my first $100,000 in the US leveraging good credit. You want to grow in business in the US, take advantage of the credit system. The only time credit becomes a problem is when people use it to buy unnecessary things and they get stuck in debt.
My only regret as immigrant was not gettingUK driving license and not getting NVQ on time because my sponsor company license got revoked and I needed these certificate to easily navigate and get another permanent job I advise new persons here to pursue personal development vigorously
The first advice I received was from someone who had made a mistake of building a house back home. He told me,please buy a house here, buy properties here, invest where you're living. I held on to that advice!
Full focus mode now! No distractions allowed. Our investments will produce the financial freedom and all the nice things we will delay now. Thank you for the comment. ❤️
Thank you so much for the words of wisdom. I'm retired as a nurse, midwife and health visitor from UK with a psychology degree from University of East London in Stratford, London. Saving money is the best so one can invest in property where one lives. I've seen unfinished houses abroard(Zim) cos people can't finish the project as monies being squandered by relatives. I've seen people whose money they sent to build abroad gone down the drain. No house built cos relatives squandered the money. One guy unfortunately killed his brother who'd used the money to buy a bottle store for himself. No house built for the brother in UK. My relative and his wife built a beautiful house abroad but unfortunately they both passed away without having lived in their house. All their children live in UK. It's so sad. As you say, they could have bought another house in UK and rented it out and enjoyed the proceeds from the house. So sad eeh. Stay blessed.
Similar things happen in India too. People want house in UK and their home country but they rarely get to live in their home country house and their kids wouldn't want to live in the home country house. So they have to sell the house in the end. Such a waste of time and money buying land and building the house for no one to live in it :(
This is not a popular video but this is a personal conversation you just had with us….. as. a Ghanaian I take your advice. Thank you, I just saw your video and decided to watch . Bless you so much for this …..
This is the deepest video of such a topic I have seen since I moved to the UK. So much depth and knowledge to take from this. Thank you so much for sharing. ❤
I totally agree with your 3rd point. I worked so many shifts in order to buy lands back home only to find out i was being defrauded and the people i trusted back home weren’t looking out for me. I could have easily made a down payment for a house here but I’m wiser now!
To be fair, I hardly comment on random UA-cam channels on my first visit. However, I just can't help but comment on this! I got into this country in 2022 October and I don't know how my orientation aligned with all that you have said even without having any 'guidance/counsel' hitherto. I looked like a weirdo amongst my contemporaries - obviously, our pursuits and backgrounds are different. Indeed, I can only owe it all to God. These are very salient and valuable truths that every new immigrant must come to terms with. Once again, thank you! thank you!! thank you!!! I can't help but share this link with my folks. God bless you richly. Keep up the good work.
I wasn't born in Africa but some members of my extended family were. Alot of the things he said are absolute truths especially about the credits, that's one mistake even non immigrants make. Credits can put u in a cycle of never ending debts. Always pay your credit card debts build your score and never owe money on that account. I personally will advice stay here atleast a year before getting a credit account. Also the thing about investing back home I can't count how many of my parents friends and other immigrants from Africa that I know who have terrible stories of first trying to build a business or anything back home than in the UK where they live. That's a terrible plan.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.... Finally a UA-cam page in thr UK I can relate with. Too much noise out there rally giving unsolicited "hot takes". Thanks again man.
You speak so eloquently. Your way of speaking kept me listening to the end. Your content is also very rich! You’ve just got an additional subscriber! 👏👏
I really love the way you articulate your thoughts. Your presentation is filled with class. Ordinary things presented in an extraordinary way. Great job
In all of this please take out time to enjoy yourself. This life is only once. Buy things that make you happy, enjoy your hard work. At the end of it all, life is all about the good and bad moments and not about all the money shift you worked.
Wonderful video. This video aligns with my philosophy. Came to the UK in 2019 and what I advise people who have just come is that life is in stages. Start slow and build quietly. I'll add - open a Lifetime ISA within months of arriving if you intend on buying a house. If not just open a cash or stock ISA to help with savings.
Thanks so much for sharing. One of the best videos anyone in the diaspora should watch. We all learn; I had a very shaky start but im in stable employment now and have got a grip on my finances. This video will help me focus on what's most important. To all those in the diaspora, never follow anyone's pace or be pushed over the limit with what others have. Take your time, keep focus and dont lose hope. Be you and do you - its never too late to achieve. Many blessings & peace ✌🏽
Since I have been in the uk 🇬🇧 a year now some months this is best narration I ve head coming to dis uk 🇬🇧 , all u said are 💯 true , some of the info I already known but some I was stil contemplating b4 now but listening to u it’s just confirmed to me of what informed choice to make Keep it up bro
I came to UK 9 months ago and I already made all this mistakes and I get back in this 9 months I wouldn't done any of it so thank for explaining for the coming people ❤
This video covers so many truths. I can confirm the importance of the points he’s raised by my own experiences in the Uk. Well done @nurse Solomon king for sharing these truths
You alluded to it but I would say the overriding point that ties into all of these is to know yourself: your money habits, your desire to please people, whether you can face adversity, what your long term plans are etc knowing yourself is really important and it’s not a lesson to be skipped
This is profound and very true my brother, I’ve been in the UK just over a year and I can relate with most of the things you mentioned. Am glad I came across your video and got a chance to learn and understand certain things from your experience and perspective. Well done 👏🏾 👏🏾👏🏾
Wow! Well spoken Sir. This is such a great speech and I’m hoping other nurses like you take your advice. Lesson learnt here is do your research, have a plan, watch your back and don’t follow others. Don’t hang your hat higher than your hands can reach. Save wisely , be smart and rip the rewards after.
For this video only, i gave you the respect of finishing the video to the end. Then clicked like button and then subscribed. You deserved it. 🎉. Thank you.
You done well my brother, considering all the trouble out there. Its good to see you've learned from your mistakes hindsight is beautiful but it's not the same at the time. Use your new-found wisdom to better yourself :)
Your video has been popping on my timeline and I kept on ignoring it. I decided to listen today and I can say you are one of the best on UA-cam. This is not capping . I have liked and subscribed to this page . You are doing well bro.
This is one of the most realistic UA-cam video I have ever seen. I didn't experience any of this but as someone who sort of grew up in the UK, this is what I would tell anyone new and he's so on point.
Well done. Im am born here and all fall in borrowing. Phone bought out right second hand usually. If you spend 100s on outings each month, then stop spending. Pay things off, invest. Car buy outright, even if a £500 dump. You eill realise it had 4 wheels and engine as same as £1000s car. Stop all the subscriptions, it gives you nothing. And find a cheap interest or hobby. Dancing class, hill walking, home workout etc...something to keep you interested without outgoings. Bulk cook, waay cheaper. It s fresh and eat same food for the next 5 meals. And cut down on cans of pop or crisps or chocolate daily as it mounts to loads of money per month were you can invest it.
Amazing content. I completely agree with your POV especially around limitations, most people advising you to settle for any type of job. Also happy your channel is finally getting the much deserved attention. Cheers to consistency. Look forward to seeing more content around this
Great informations! I have moved recently in Sweden but fortunately I have not yet made most of the mistakes you're talking about. Some people I came with have already done them though! I'm content with what I have and value my peace of mind to take needless credits. I don't think I need a car right now. Some friends wanted me to invest in some businesses back home but I showed them that I was not ready for such project. I don't expose my life on social media but still some people frequently ask me for money. When I explain to them that I do not have the amount they are asking for or do not have money at a specific moment, they think that I'm just being stingy or proud. I don't mind though, knowing that I have said the truth. I have gotten the chance of watching your video before starting to do these mistakes and I am really grateful for that. 😊🙏 Thanks!
Very valid points especially not building a house back home till you’ve settled. Why buy a house back home when you’re not ready to move back home? I agree 100per cent. Also credit should be used wisely to build your score for mortgage purposes. Old am
My first impression after the very first minutes on this your video was "the guy is innocent and honest looking". Thanks for your useful tips, Solomon. Appreciated ones!
Good one bro❤ I'm really glad I didn't fall for any of these, even though nobody advised me. I only got a car recently for family use, and that is long after my mortgage was sorted. I have never fallen for phone credit, I changed the phone I came with after 2years in the UK. The more you look, the less you see😅 A lot of us get over excited about relocating, become so loud and wants to show off. I wish everyone watch this video on arrival.
This is such a beautiful piece with lots to learn from and a different perspective and insight into approach to issues that affect everyone in one way or the other. Thank you, I hope you never get tired.
I've been living here in Britain for 22 years and I give advice only when people ask but I never gave advice in my first 10 years because I myself was in a mess
I understand though but u don’t have to make it b4 u can give advice d best way to learn is to never repeat people’s mistakes, just what this guy shared are his 7 mistakes I can relate bcos I’m at points in life
This is by far one of the best yet simple videos I’ve watched on UA-cam. It’s interesting that people dabble into things they don’t even understand. May God keep teaching us all.
Brother, you will go far in this country. You are smart. One thing you said is that life is in stages, I got caught out with the phone contract once, 15 years ago, never again. credit is good, but if you don't know how to manage it, it can spiral out of control really fast. Saving and investing while you can, because nothing stays the same. Keep spreading the word to our brothers and sisters.
The fact that we Nigeria’s moved to English speaking countries should be one of our biggest Luck. I base in Germany and my first 3years alone was learning the language and during some vocational trainings which limited me from work proper then comes my Joyful moment been a Mom was another story since there was no help from family due to me all by myself. For good 6years, God has been faithful and still His, now working fully and almost ready to buy my own house. Not easy though but your determinations go a long way. Set Priorities First 🙏
Bro am from Kenya and a nurse too. I just stumbled on this video at such a great time as I've developed interest in moving to US after life here in Kenya started getting tough...i will be initiating the process soon. Thanks alot for this eye opener...once i finish the process and land there i promise I'll be rewathing your videos to keep me in line
I think some of these were what I had adopted as my principles here except the case of car which I got about 7 months in UK I have family and I work different places so I never regretted buying car then it’s really helped me.
Thank you for dropping this. I think in many cases a car or other things are definitely a need. I believe evaluating what is “need” vs “want” is really important. 👍
Subscribing was actually effortless because I found this very insightful, I am actually new tho, and trust me there are no lies in those advices, although I have not gotten any job in the past 4 months since I got here I but I believe I needed to hear this before getting the job! Thank you!!
New subscriber here. Super proud to see this kind of content. Thank you Solomon. My brother in kaw has been here 3yrs and shared some of these same points with my husband. That has helped us immensely in the 1yr we have been here. Thank you!
Very deep and yet honest video in all ramifications. To be honest, it becomes content when many people can relate, and that is what you achieved here. I laughed through it all because these were things I advised some of my single japarist, and they would be like, Mama, that is you, this is us. Allow us to breathe. A few years later, they are now choking. Mesef, don hold my advice make them no see u as bad belle. Nice video
Wise words! Living within your means may mean having less...but it's a lot better for your sense of contentment in the long run. I'd say just be yourself, don't worry too much about trying to "fit in"...being authentic will lead people to help you (but don't let yourself be exploited). I hope the UK feels like home. Good luck with the channel.
Can I like this video twice? You nailed it all just the way I think aways. Though, I'm new but only brought my Samsung form from Nigeria and I have been using it for almost 3 years in Nigeria. I got credit card ,but never uses to buy unnecessary things ooo. I only buy or focus on little things needed. Thanks for your thoughtfulness Great Man
A lot of this advice rings true for people born here too. Creating the illusion of wealth, or deriving self worth from possessions is endemic in the UK. Thanks for sharing wisdom.
Wow! I just stumbled upon your video and I like your person already! I love how you spoke and articulated your points! I felt I could listen to you all day. You just gained a subscriber! 😊

Hi @Nurse Solomon King, as someone who has lived in London for over 19 years , I would say your advice is completely spot on!

I’ll advise you to build back home cos you don’t know what the future holds.
But don’t forget to build a house back home , I know friends whom lived in Ukraine and invested there , but look now all gone .
The best decision I made was to build apartments for rent back home.
I also understand everybody's luck and life is different...so do you.
Interesting perspective here. I guess the plan is to not ignore home investment too, yeah?

Young man full of Godly wisdom...keep enlightening us brother...thankyou
😊🙏 Thanks!
Focus on your GOALS and ignore the NOISE....... Hmmmmmmm
!!!!!!!!
My brother I am a jamaican and I endorse everything, that you have said, thank for your words of encouragement
Hailings mi bredda! 🇯🇲
Very wise advice, I enjoyed watching your video. Life never stops teaching, keep learning. I can tell you now, there is loads more to learn.
Very valid points especially not building a house back home till you’ve settled. Why buy a house back home when you’re not ready to move back home? I agree 100per cent. Also credit should be used wisely to build your score for mortgage purposes. Old am
Wow!
You are wise. Timely message for me. Thank you for this video.
Solomon, your name is you. I like your gentle presenting attitude. Thank for this information.
Thank you so much. This is so apt. I'm in the middle of something right now, grateful this came up. Sticking to my original plans❤
My first impression after the very first minutes on this your video was "the guy is innocent and honest looking". Thanks for your useful tips, Solomon. Appreciated ones!
Thank you for your kind words 😁 I’m glad you liked it.
Awesome. This refreshed me and brought some realignment in my approach. Thank you so much for sharing. More of this..
I watched to the end😊like I was practically glued to this video. The way you pinpoint your words is amazing. You just gained a new follower
Thank you Solomon. I just love your intro. Truth you are saying. Just subscribed. Thank you
Good one bro❤
I'm really glad I didn't fall for any of these, even though nobody advised me.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! ❤️
Thank you for this, like I needed this at this honest talk at this point in time here in the UK.
Me too🎉🎉🎉🎉
Very solid pieces of advice!
And you speak so well!!!
I've been living here in Britain for 22 years and I give advice only when people ask but I never gave advice in my first 10 years because I myself was in a mess
I understand though but u don’t have to make it b4 u can give advice d best way to learn is to never repeat people’s mistakes, just what this guy shared are his 7 mistakes I can relate bcos I’m at points in life
Eye opening! great! Thanks for sharing.
This is by far one of the best yet simple videos I’ve watched on UA-cam. It’s interesting that people dabble into things they don’t even understand. May God keep teaching us all.
Lovely video quality top notch editing and Thanks for being transparent and honest.
Thank you so much brother. You are completely on point. I hope people will learn from this experience
This is so good! Weldone Solomon! So much wisdom!!
Set Priorities First 🙏
Thanks for sharing.. how is Germany.. am thinking of moving there.. any advice
Viele Grüße!
Well done for the well articulated word of advice.
Wow, this is eye opening, thanks for the insight😊
Your video should go viral 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Thank you, nurse Solomon
Subscribing was actually effortless because I found this very insightful, I am actually new tho, and trust me there are no lies in those advices, although I have not gotten any job in the past 4 months since I got here I but I believe I needed to hear this before getting the job! Thank you!!
Thank you! Don't worry, you will have a testimony of your desired job soon. All the best.
I'm a final year male nursing student in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, and I love your videos. New subscriber here.
Dont be too LOUD!! That was my greatest take away ...thank you so much 🙏🏾
This is amazing bro, thanks 👍
New subscriber here. Super proud to see this kind of content. Thank you Solomon. My brother in kaw has been here 3yrs and shared some of these same points with my husband. That has helped us immensely in the 1yr we have been here. Thank you!
Thank you for this piece Solomon.
The inspiration in here is you acknowledging your mistakes. Respect
Very insightful.
Nice video
Absolutely supa advice. Thank you for sharing
BOOM! - While there may be some element of truth to this "It is not everyone's REALITY"
You literally spoke to me as an immigrant who is in her first year in the UK. Words of wisdom!!! Thanks fam
I wished I watched this video before I moved to the UK
You can start all over sis. Same thing Happened to me
@@BernardBernard-ch2fjI definitely will
I'm following you ASAP.
This is well organised
Thanks for been so real with some of us who are new here. Thank so much Solomon
Wow! I just stumbled upon your video and I like your person already! I love how you spoke and articulated your points! I felt I could listen to you all day. You just gained a subscriber! 😊
