- This video goes into detail about how to do an SPC Upper Control Arms installation for Toyota 4Runner or Tacoma. Installation for SPC Upper Control Arms isn't hard but can be time-consuming. Be patient and take your time with the control arms. Good Luck with Installation!
**If you haven’t already done so, hit SUBSCRIBE so you can keep up with the build and adventure stuff to come.**
**You will need a 32mm 1/2 drive socket to set the upper control arm ball joint**
As I get ready to take off for my 2000 mile road trip across the country in a few weeks, I finish getting my suspension set up so that my alignment can be dialed in. I decided to go with SPC adjustable upper control arms because of the extra adjustment they provide to my rig with a 1.5" lift in front. These control arms will fit a 1st gen Tacoma as well (95-04)!!!
--Please be careful working on cars and always make sure to use proper jack stand support! Thank you for watching.--

My man you are a savior this video is fantastic, and informative thank you.
Thanks man! Share it with a friend! I forgot to show greasing the joints but it’s easy enough. Don’t forget!
@@seekingthestokewithneeks6640 No worries, I actually showed it to my buddy who was currently doing a full fox suspension upgrade with his 1st gen taco and we found it very useful installing his SPC uppers.
@@luketietjen4996 I’m glad it helped. Gonna be doing more how-to’s soon. Anything you think I should have mentioned in this vid or could work on for the future?
@@seekingthestokewithneeks6640 being the first videos of it's type I would say Its super good already, just keep up the good work and keep showing those small details nobody talks about! Also maybe a tool rundown of what you will need before the install. we had to go get the 32mm socket after you mentioned it at the end lol.
@@luketietjen4996 thanks man! Doing a toolbox walkthrough soon of everything I have in my box soon that I use. Appreciate it
Thank you!! This is one of the few videos for this. I am stoked to get new lift and UCAs installed next weekend!!
Thanks Trey, I saw a hole on youtube that needed to be filled, hence why I made the video. I hope this install vid helps you out man. Let me know how it goes. PATIENCE!
Great video. Very detailed. Thank you. I just installed my SPCs earlier today and it wouldn't have gone so smooth without this video!
Hey! Glad to hear it went well! That’s exactly why I made this vid. Good to hear! Leave some love via a like if you could
Great videos man!very helpful, about to tackle suspension on my 3rd gen
Thanks man, I’m glad my videos could be of help to you. Just remember to take your time and have some patience
Sweet video! Thanks for the tip on saving some cash.
Looks like I can pick a set of these up for $550 (RockAuto they are out of stock)... either way this will save me some hassle replacing control arm bushings and upper ball joint in my 1999 Prerunner Tacoma. Only cost me an extra $250 which is worth it. Add in some Whiteline bushings for the lower control arms for 100 and my front end will be in much better shape (replaced lower ball joints last year)
nice install bro
Thanks man, hope it helped
Bro you killed it with this video. Very helpful with good tips too (antiseize, alignment shop). Definitely going to rewatch when I go to install mine. Only issue is mine didn't come with the steering knuckle inserts and circlips, nor the top offset washers for the long bolt. Gonna send SPC an email to get it figured out. Thanks!
Hey dude, I’m really glad to hear that. That’s exactly why I made it. I didn’t see anything that I myself would have liked to watch as a reference. Glad it was of help to you
Same here dude! Had just chopped off the upper ball joint and started looking around for those “supplied” hardware. Now the truck is stuck on jack stands until they reply to my email.
What did they end up doing for you?
Thanks for the info on mevotech
You’re welcome! Glad I could help!
You failed to mention that you need to adjust the LCA to neutral on all 4 cam bolt adjusters. The commenter who reported “too much camber” can dial it out with their LCA cam bolt adjusters assuming they didn’t do a suspension lift over 2.5”. There is a limit to how much lift you can get out of the suspension before your geometry is not able to be corrected with the limits of your adjusters. You’ll also shred your CV boots.
Thanks for the info, I took mine to an alignment shop so as far as installs go with a diff drop, that’s where my expertise stops. I’m sure others will appreciate your info though
This method also works with 3rd gen Tacomas. I had to order twice because the 1st time I got the old and new versions of the SPC UCAs. The 2nd time I ordered I got both new SPC UCAs.
I'm not too familiar with that generation but it makes sense. Anyone who wants to save a buck and just buy them from Mevotech through rockauto
How do you know if you got the old version? Got my kit being built right now . Thanks guys and good video !
@@colinjames2383 the older UCAs are half tube half forged. The new UCAs are fully forged.
Excellent video, if not SPC what would you go with on a 1st gen taco 4x4 with a 3" lift using 5100 and AAL in the back? I dont think SPC UCA's are nessissary for my level of wheeling. Just some bad dirt roads and such. Thanks!
That’s pretty much all I do. they’re not known for heavy wheeling. They’re more for getting things in alignment
I have a 97 taco with these they help aling things back to near spec and allow more articulation and helps with ride quality since they provide more of a angle for the uniball and im running 3.5in lift in the front
@@jasonmorales894 These should definitely help considering how much lift you’re running. However I’m not an expert in these things are not exactly sure how much you would gain from it. I do know a lot of people run them though more lift. It really depends on what your needs are. If you don’t do any hard-core wheeling then it could probably be of benefit.
Do you know if the Mevotech LCA's are any good because I can tell you the MOOG's suck. Good video on the UCA's.
Hi Larry, I don’t know anything about the lower control arms. Personally, I’d it were me, I’d stick to OEM if you can. Check out McGeorge Toyota online parts. They’re about the best prices you’re going to find. I hope that helps
Hey bud thx for the video. I bought a used set with new hardware but it's missing the washers... How are they compared to stock? Same shape? I'm thinking of just buying some stainless thick washers at the hardware store and calling it a day. Tried ordering from SPC but the shipping to Canada is absolutely insane... Any info would be a huuuuuge help!
Thanks for the question! I honestly cannot remember. I made this video over a year and a half ago. I can’t say if I noticed much difference or not but for safety reasons, I’d say to confirm with SPC on the specs and see if the OEM ones are similar.
Will these work at stock height?
Were you able to get good alignment specs at the end? I installed these and there is alot of positive camber even at max negative adjustment. Kind of has me worried
The shop I went to had no issue. They take some dialing in from what I’m told, but they make it easier to align. Just a matter of if they know how to do it or not
How did you find an alignment shop that would do it?
Hey Tyler, thanks for asking. I actually just called around. There is a toyota specific aftermarket shop around that does a lot of modification for people in the area. I asked them first but was told they didn't do them in house. They pointed me in the right direction.
Do Ball joint delete kits work with SPC UCA's 3rd Gen 4R 4wd???
Hey there, I couldn’t tell you. I’m unfamiliar with ball joint delete kids
Where can I get the replacement ball joint for that upper control arm
I’m not sure they sell them on rock auto or not, but I’d contact SPC directly
Is the ball joint the same?
Hi Bryce, are you asking if the ball joint from SPC is the same as OEM? I'm a little confused by your question. Please clarify and I'll do my best to answer.
@@seekingthestokewithneeks6640 is the mevotec (spc) ball joint actually an spc or a junk rock auto one? I know its not OE
@@brycethoreson9216 It is all SPC. It comes out of a Mevotech box, but everything is stamped SPC. I belive the ball joints themselves are replaceable too, as in the entire arm doesnt need to be taken off, to replace a worn ball joint down the road
All I’m seeing once I look them up is CMS86109 and CMS86108 😩
I saw that. I looked the other day too and it seems they’re just out at the moment I hope.
Rust? I don't see a speck of corrosion.
Sucks they’re out it stock, I purchased some Freedom Off-Road and they suck, way too much too camber
That’s sucks man, sorry to hear that. I hope they restock eventually
I have spc uca"s on my third gen Tacoma. They're straight garbage. I had them installed about two years ago. The bushings are shot and the ball joints are dancing around on both sides. I've got a symphony of noises from the front suspension. I'll need new uca's. I'm thinking to switch to JBA product. Save yourself some money and don't buy spc uca's.
Spc uniballs require regressed every 3k miles and depending on how often you drive the rig and if you wheel it determines the uniball life which life expetency is 20k miles and in my case 10k-15k cause I'm hard on my suspension
Whoops, looks like I pass by this comment. Sucks to see you had such a shitty experience with these upper control arms. I would assume that everyone has the same issue considering how many they sell, including myself. It seems you are hard on them though from your own experience so maybe that’s why you have so many issues. I built my truck to be a long Road trip vehicle with slight off-road capabilities. I don’t do any hard feelings mainly dirt roads and a few rocky ones on occasion. I think they suit me well and other people along those lines. I definitely believe if you’re going to be hard on the truck you should go with something more durable like jba or total chaos
Totally agree. 6k on mine and the ball joints are shot. Got them warranteed but the bushings also have some play and I hear it whenever I drive over a small bump
I'm in the same boat. Have about 3000 miles on mine, not even serious offroading, and my SPC UCA's are trash. I'm counting the days until I can get them removed. Going back to either OEM or JBA (got a 2nd gen Tacoma). The suspension is "moaning" literally hours after they were installed. Not sure if it's the bushings or the ball joints but either way, I'm anxiously waiting to get them off my truck. Never using anything from SPC again.
Rock auto was not a fan of this video lol. They no longer carry them and they said they have no plans of getting any more.
I’m not sure why that would be the cause considering they make money every sale they make. I’m sorry to hear that it won’t be stocked in their warehouses anymore. If mevotech still makes em though, I bet they’re still cheaper than a lot of other options
confirm rock auto selling mevotech, which is SPC's old design. Tube welded construction.
Do not buy SPC uca’s they are notorious for having weak ball joints that go bad 15,000-20,000 miles. They’re garbage!
