Great video, mate. Enjoyed this one. I’m still gaming my Titleist Vokey SM6’s. They’re ancient but actually spin pretty well around the green. Can only imagine what could be achieved if I’d put my hand in my pocket and upgrade them. That little wedge is a neat piece of kit. Will definitely be checking that out. One thing I would love to know - how do you never get bothered by other golfers when filming. I can never get two mins to film on my home course, hence I don’t do any on-course filming like you do. Anyway, keep up the good work! 👍
Hey Andy, thanks for the message. I definitely know what you mean about the challenges of filming on the course... It's not easy. I tend to try and look for courses that are willing to let me nip out around first light when there are some quiet holes. It's one of the hardest things though. Difficult to fit around work as well. Keep at it!
Spinning the ball on short chips is my next goal. It seems impossible. Today all I could do was launch high flop shots. Yes they stopped sooner but they weren't backing up or stopping suddenly
The one important thing that you’ve missed is the bounce on the wedge. I can get that effect with soft wrists and letting the bounce push back up into the ball to dig in a bit better and get more grip, and more spin.
There's probably better spinning balls out there, but as a high handicapper I had great results with Callaway supersoft matte finish. Only ball that I was able to get noticeable backspin
I think many people(myself included until recently)are hesitant to open the face enough. And then release the club, don't hold it open like you would on other pitch shots. Try to draw the ball with an open face.
Those fairways the pros play are nothing like the fairways your average golfer plays. They’re much tighter. And greens are totally different as well. This is apples to doughnuts. Instruction in this video is excellent.
Hey Steve, I'm no huge expert but I believe the logic behind that is that hitting off the toe reduces the smash factor, meaning you can potentially swing harder and (in theory) might be able to put some more spin/revs on the ball...I think Rory plays some of his shots in that way. A lot of people struggle to hit the middle let alone aim for the toe with a harder swing, so it probably comes down to ability and control 😃
Probably for most players, even single handicappers, the better shot is more standard and just play the roll out as you know it. Going for something that looks pretty but is more difficult to pull off is dumb (for most players again).
@@JonPerkinsGolf Yeah, don't get me wrong, it is a pretty shot. Don't think I won't try it a few times tomorrow. However, when money is on line, I'm sticking to my basics.
All if this good info should come from your caddy which few golfers have therefore they don’t break 90. As one of the best 80 yr old golfers in the world people need to understand more about the science if golf and sports skill
Yes, I can’t stand watching instructional videos, where there’s 10 minutes of dialogue talking about how shitty of golf are you are, and actually one minute of actual demonstration how to fix it…. It’s more like an advertisement than a demonstration . I can’t even watch this whole video.
Hey thanks, I like the wedge technique
Awesome video Jon thanks for the advice just the shot I am looking to work on.
that was awesome!! thank you, i am buying the SW today. i am going to watch more of your videos. i also quite enjoy your mental even keel approach.
Appreciate the feedback, thanks! Good luck
Finally! A great explanation with some facts…. ! Best explanation I’ve seen
Thank you!!
Excellent video. Thanks for the great explanation.
Glad you liked it!
nice work. can't wait to try this out. might 3d print myself a wedge to help
Good luck!
I have a PW , I wonder if I can get backspin with that, because I’m not a tour pro I doubt I’ll ever obtain the skills for a set of wedges. Cheers
I tried the wedge shot and managed to get the 300yd drive you mentioned in the intro 😁🤦
🤣🤣 maybe try a spinner with your driver then?!
@@JonPerkinsGolf pfft, I've already mastered that 😁
😂😂😂
Lots of tasty Mayo on those crispy shots. Love it.
😃
Good explanation, i tend to use this technique on harder greens, shot selection is important
Thanks and totally agree
Nice honest tip and well-explained. 👍
Appreciate it, thanks!
Your setup, approach, and your follow through was great for me. I truly Enjoyed your Session, and look forward to more.
Awesome, thank you!

Thanks for adding to the conversation
So how do you hit them?
There's probably better spinning balls out there, but as a high handicapper I had great results with Callaway supersoft matte finish. Only ball that I was able to get noticeable backspin
That's cool, thanks for sharing.

any idea what kind of rpm backspin you are putting on those short guys?
Good question! No, but I'll try and measure next time I get a chance.

I tried the shot and to get the 350 yd drive you mentioned in the intro?????
You've mastered the long ball then - good job 😉
What size is the toomate
Sorry, not sure what you mean?
one of the guys said try to hit it more towards the toe to get more backspin. does that seem valid?

@@JonPerkinsGolf ok i think he was talking more chips and pitches around the greenside area.
The burning wedge shot seems I’ve heard of this before 🤔
How do you keep the ball so low with so much club loft plus an open face?
Shaft lean, leaning a 60° wedge forward with hands in front reduces loft
Shaft lean and the angles. I'm getting better at it on shorter shots. Longer shots would go higher.
Excellent video. I've already suscribed to your channel. Cheers from Mexico.
Love it, welcome!!
A 64 wont do that?
And Super Subbed!
Love it!
ALL of our games are a work in progress… I don’t know of a time I’m not working on something!
True
$99 AUD for the strike wedge - insane price. nice video.
New sub! Great delivery of content.
Awesome, glad you're here!
I’ve got a 69 degree wedge , my go to club, absolutely everything stops dead.
Awesome! Never used above a 60 degree. Would be fun to try.
😀👍
When either the greens or club or grass are wet-you'll never get that stop spin no matter how clean your gear is.
Yeah, keep them as dry and clean as possible!!
Probably for most players, even single handicappers, the better shot is more standard and just play the roll out as you know it. Going for something that looks pretty but is more difficult to pull off is dumb (for most players again).
Absolutely. There's definitely a time and a place for using this type of shot (and not using it).

A simple hand towel would do the trick, no?
Gary player always told his caddy not to clean sand off the wedge to get max spin😊
Who am I to argue with Gary! 😃
I can hit a sand wedge 100-120, PW 145 ,9 155, 8 175 ,7 iron 200 ! 5 iron 220 ! driver 195-300
Nice job, but please less talk more actually demonstrating . Re do this video, 10% talk 90 % showing actual technique
Thanks for the feedback, I will keep that in mind for future videos.
Who r u to give demands like that. Redo ur comment. 10 percent thanks, 90 percent stfu
People really have a lot of nerve in the comments. How about a thank you
The talk is the most important part. I say well done.
😂😂😂

This guy is terrible, little if any discussion on how to do it.
