Your guess about the damasteel backspacer is exactly correct. When Brad built that for me I wanted a little fancy detail, but still a knife I’d be comfortable using (mental block I’ve got around dama blades lol). I love that you almost can’t notice it unless you’re literally just staring at the knife. Such a great piece.
There are several South African makers I am very impressed with. They do fine work these days. I very much appreciate makers that teach others. My Mentor was a Man by the name of R.W. (Bob Loveless. He taught me a lot over the years. I too taught or helped guide several now very well known Knife Makers. They have made their mark on the market over the years. KnifeMaker/Medically retired after over 47+ Years in the Craft and in association with the Original R.W. Loveless Shop with Bob Loveless and Jim Merritt. RIP Both.
Can definitely see the Guthrie DNA in it. That's really cool to see little hints of design passed down while still being its own thing. Dark matter cf looks amazing when done well, same with hand satin blades. Awesome piece.
The one knife South African knife i had from from Jason Guthrie. It was a Ranger Xl in an incredible configuration. I do regret selling it as he has made very few in the xl size.
Great knife and love that zirconium thumb stud. I have to agree there is something amazing about South African knife makers. Thanks for letting me experience this new maker to me. I know I am eagerly awaiting my first South African knife to my collection. I went for broke on it and commissioned a custom Herucus Blomerus. Just have to wait till March.
@@barboki oh you picked a GREAT maker. Herucus and I have chatted a lot over the years. First video I did of his he must have saw and he reached out and messaged me thanking me for taking the time to review his knife. Was so humble and thankful. Instantly connected with him. One day I’ll have him build me something also.
@@DirkWerning He is an amazing person to talk to and so nice. working with him on my build has been a dream. I really hope to meet him in person one day.
South Africa has some great knifemakers like Anton Knives. Really high quality. The bladefinish on this knife is very nice. The edge must be handwork, it's a laserbeam.
I was on the list for this one… it’s just too much like my scout I changed my mind .. although it should be good.. he was trained by the man himself… he got a lot shit when he 1st came out until Jason defended him. He’s definitely living up to Jason in quality… just hasn’t gone and done something original after all this time yet 🤔.. I would like to see him make something else than a scout.

Agree 100% on south african makers, such exceptional quality! I'd also throw Italian/french makers in there aswell!

I have only one friction folder from JD Vandeventer and if I can remember he is also south african knife maker.
Can definitely see the Guthrie dna. I like it, got a new one to keep an eye on.
Fantastic!

Seems loke the knives from South Africa make for great users as well collectibles. Even the ones who have moved to the US.
