couldn't agree more with your #1 pick. the dragonfly has quickly become my daily EDC b/c it handles 99% of what you need it for: opening boxes, slicing food, bags, skoal tins, etc etc. it's so incredibly light and unobtrusive - you don't even know it's there until you need it. i even sleep with mine. lol
The best thing about your number two pick is the tight radiused belly, which is so useful I don't understand why it's not a requirement to be considered EDC
Me too! A Florida guy as well, my favorite is the dragonfly 2 salt series. Love the H1 steel! It’s got a luster and a shine that none of the other steals have. People give it slack for its lack of edge retention but it is better than Victorinox and absolutely will not rust. My second favorite is the UKPK Salt with LC200N. I invite you to check it out… It is lightweight and meets many of your criteria.
@@kpfagerberg Hmmm. Could be. It gets dull with maybe a couple of month's full of food prep... Its not like I took out Loupes to verify that it is rolling but light stropping makes it paper cutting sharp again. I don't think that constitutes a lack of strength. Just poor edge retention. That being said, I now have Vanax and magnacut. Difficult to beat these two. But still love my H1.
@@alphaneuron9045 I just bought the dragonfly salt. Nice for the lake and every carry. I don’t use my knives that often so the edge retention isn’t a huge deal for me. The rust proof aspect is more appealing
@@kpfagerberg I bet you´re gonna love it. I Recommend a piece of leather with stropping compound and it will be quite easy to keep it paper cutting sharp! Enjoy!
IMHO you are one of the best people to make a list like this as you know some of the est Spyderco models for sure (as users), and you have great taste as well. of course this is a great list, and all are exceptional models that certainly stand on their own. thanks man, another great vid and i enjoyed watching and hearing your perspective !
Living in Florida, a Caribbean would be perfect! The construction is a work of art, skeletonized, fully nested G10, ceramic detent ball, nothing on the blade will rust and for wet environments the milled G10 ensures it won't slip out of your hand, the color was chosen because it was the most visible under water.
Great video! I am a huge fan also. Have all of those knives that you mentioned - and also the Chaparral, and Sage 5. It seems that the Sage rides with me more than my PM2 because of the weight, the scales (carbon fiber laminate), the flickability of the lockup (compression is my favorite), and the shape of the blade. The leaf shape is so non-threatening to non-knife people. Since I have a tendency to fidget with it, and I seemingly always have it out, the basic design is not as tactical as my PM2, so it is less scary! A little smaller than the PM2. My overall favorite is the PM2, but I tend to carry the Sage everyday.
Dragonfly 2 - Rating 11/10. Love it. I have S30V, K390, VG10 (several) , H1 Salt and ZDP189. My favorite folders of all my Spydercos. I have four Spyderco knives. One Manix 2 Lightweight and three variants of Dragonfly 2. So it’s easy to guess my opinion. I have a Salt H2, but my favorite variant is the DF2 with teal handle and K390 steel.
I have quite a few Spyderco knives, but my favorite one by far is the Shaman. My second favorite is the Para 2, then the Manix 2. I also really love the Para 3. Spyderco's are not the fanciest knives, but they are build to last. I also love the ergonomics of the knives. They always feel very comfortable in hand. They are all high quality cutting tools, and isn't that what you look for in a knife? I also like the fact that many of them are made in the USA.
Love your Cutlery Shoppe Native Chief! I wasn’t able to get that one, or the S90V CF one I really wanted, but did get one from Blade HQ in Jade G10 and DLC M4, and love it, a big razor. Great list with clearly explained features and quirks/dislikes. I'm a fan of FRN too and I'd bet if it were somehow not known as a spiffy plastic, it wouldn't be as disliked as it is. Back in the 80's (not a typo) Tamiya RC cars shipped with FRN bushings opposed to bearings; to lower costs - and offer "hop-up" overpriced parts. Anyway, after several runs there weren't many hardened steel axles without a groove worn into them from the "fancy plastic". *edit. Enjoyed your enthusiasm for all of them, but the Slysz Bowie and DF2 in particular. Cheers ;)
I really appreciate that you left this comment!!! I agree regarding FRN, and that’s a great point too with the RC cars. FRN is just so functional, I don’t get the hate. Also love to hear you like the Slysz Bowie and DF2! Definitely the two I have been carrying the most as of late. Thanks again! 🙌👍🔪
I have the Kapara in carbon fiber and it is a great knife. As great as the carbon fiber looks it is a little slippery when your hands are really dry so that combined with the slim grips in the area of the compression lock you do have to be careful not to drop the knife when operating the lock. Other than that Alistair Phillips designed a super knife. If I could only have one knife though it might very well be the PM2. Nice video and good list. 👍

My favorite knives and you do a good job explaining them. Is there a good place to purchase them besides their website because they are always out of stock the ones I want?
That is amazing hahaa!! Dude I love it, it may feel awkward to open at first if you haven't had a Dragonfly 2 before, but the ergonomics and capability are next level.
@@floridamanknives i got it the other day and it does have pretty good ergos for such a tiny knife. I want to add a small lanyard to make it even better to grip and retrieve. The one i got the spydie hole is a pretty rough cutout compared to other spydies I own but that kind of gives more grip on the thumb for opening (not sure if that was by design).
Hey Patrick I am also a Floridian and proud owner of the dragon fly 2 salt series. I read a review somewhere that the blades from Seki city Japan tend to have a sharper edge on the ring compared to other manufactures.
Funny how people differ in preferences. I love the manix 2 g10 BECAUSE it’s heavy 😅 I really like heavyweight knives. I have the sage 5, which is substantially lighter, but I prefer the feel of the extra weight.
You gotta check out the smock, Gayle Bradley 2, shaman, any of the sage knives, spydiechef, swayback, meerkat, lil native, domino, and mantra 1. Those are my top 10 and you don't have a single one on there I might have the Bowie but I've never owned one
Thanks for the great comment!! I love the Meerkat, I have one and it is one of my favorites, but I just think there are better more available edc options for most people. The Domino is a dream for me, but the Mantra series is a bit too small in the handle. All of the others I definitely need to try too!! I appreciate it 👍
I like the mantra 1 because it's pretty much just a flipper delica with Titanium and m4 so it's like an upgrade from the delica in most ways and the meerkat is just alot cooler and just as nice in the hand as the dragonfly
That is really awesome!! Congratulations! I missed that one, but I’ll be getting the up coming DLT trading cru-wear Dragonfly 2. I’m happy you got one 👍
actually probably the greatest would be the manix xl , subvert , bowie , k2 , police special ZDP-189 4inch ,if i think of something else i hit u up i think i remember one super bad ass spyderco called Captain
I used to have the first generation Monster when they were $99 dollars, those were the days! My father still has the one I got him. It’s been hard holding my fun money since it Looks like I’m going to blade show unless something unknown comes up.
I think you are missing out and your list is lacking because you Haven't handled or bought what many people feel is one of the best wonder is ever made, the Shaman. Not trolling as I appreciate your opinion and the content but you have to use the shaman before you can do a top 10 spyderco list
Great video! My favorite is the spydiechef. Also been searching for a Paysan and a reasonably priced Nirvana. Would help if you listed the knives in the description.
I realize this is just one man's opinion but I would have put the Shaman near the top for the ergonomics alone. Other than the Sage 5 lw, I don't like FRN, so we may just have different tastes.
you have to write more in the description that way UA-cam will put you in the algorithm. at least some links or a list of the knives names bud. unless you don't care about growing the channel
Any experience with the Mantra 1, or any of the Bradley collabs or the Amalgam? The amalgam seems to fly under everyone's radar but it's such an amazing knife. Didnt see any flippers on your list, but as long as that's not a deal breaker then the Mantra 1 is basically a high end delica. Great video. I always enjoy seeing other people's choices of best Spydies. Edit: if your number 1 is the dfly2 then you'll LOVE the Dodo! I'd say my top 10 Spydercos would be: 1. Maxamet manix 2 (Ti scales!) 2. K2 3. M4 tanto pm2 4. Police 4 k390 (or Rex 45 chief, haven't decided yet) 5. Mantra 1 6-10 in no particular order: Hundred Pacer, Amalgam, Paysan, Dodo, Zoomer I added fatcarbon scales to my K2 essentially turning it into a liner lock, and it's easily my most used, but that completely changed the knife so I can't call it my number 1. Without the mod I'm not even sure it would be in my top 10.
First, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate such a detailed comment, I love hearing other people’s opinions, especially on Spydercos!!! Regarding the Mantra series in general, I stayed away as the Delica just barely is big enough for the size of my hands, the flipper tab would be in the way for me. The Bradley collabs I’ve only heard amazing things about, and I hope to be able to try one out! The Amalgam is one I really really want to get. It looks amazing, and I agree it’s so under appreciated, but it is right up my alley. I’ve also always been interested in the Ikuchi. This list also is the top 10 overall in my opinion, but I’ll admit my top 10 “favorites” would be different. I love my Meerkat for example haha!! The Aqua Salt is my favorite fixed blade. My two Spyderco Grails is any variant of the Dodo, and the Nirvana. The Paysan follows. I’m really happy to hear you think I’ll love the Dodo! I unfortunately missed out on the hundred pacer (jealous of your tanto PM2 as well). Do you have an aftermarket pocket clip on your K2? Thank you man!! 🦈🕷🔪
@@floridamanknives You're right, the flipper tab is definitely/can definitely be a problem on the Mantra 1. If my hands were any bigger then it would basically be a 3 and a half finger knife and it wouldn't have been anything special to me. There aren't many knives under 3.5 inches that I like, and almost none under 3.25, there's something about the mantra though. It feels like such a bigger blade than it really is, especially in hand. If you ever want to try an Advocate, or an Ikuchi, I'd give you a great deal. I always have a few Advocates, and I bought an Ikuchi and just never ended up using it. I've been whittling down my Spydercos (and collection, in general) a ton in the last few months. The tanto PM2 has been such a surprise! I had basically written off the pm2 a while ago but ended up getting a great deal on one. The grind on that blade is absolutely perfect. The hollow portion is thick enough to have the strength a tanto should have but still thin enough to cut really well, and the flat ground tip is basically bombproof and has just a bit of curve to it. That grind, with Spyderco's M4 makes it one of those knives that I know I could do everything with even if it was the only knife I had for the rest of my life. I've been trying to find a Hundred Pacer ever since they were discontinued. They dropped the price to ~$190 when they discontinued them, and I figured I'd be able to get one on the secondary for less than that after a few months, but they just never come up for sale. I ended up finding one for a great price a few months ago. Its pretty much all I've used in the kitchen since I got it. The blade it the perfect length, and the handle is shaped and sized like it was designed for my hand. The Dodo is such a beautifully functional knife. I HATE that the price has gone up so much on them because nobody uses them to see how perfect they are for EDC use. I still have a CF version with a full serrated blade swap that's never been used but I've had a half dozen or so users over the years. I just sold my last user a couple weeks ago. My ultimate goal is to get one of the M4 ones and make some titanium scales for it. When I added scales on my K2 I drilled and tapped it for tip-up carry with the Hinderer screw pattern and I use a stock Hinderer clip on it.
@@CNYKnifeNerd one of my favorite in that size range is the ZT0460, it’s got a really long cutting edge for the size. I will definitely keep that in mind on the Ikuchi and Advocate!! Both have definitely interested me a lot. I never thought I’d be able to own an Advocate......😍🤔 I hope they do a PM2 Tanto grind on another exclusive and hopefully I’ll be lucky enough to get one!! I never thought about using the Hundred Pacer in the Kitchen either, very interesting! The price on the Dodo is the only reason I don’t have one. I hopefully will one day! I love the BladeHQ Exclusives, and hope they release more. Thank you man!
I really used to like spyderco but they are so crazy priced now I don't think I'll ever buy another one. I personally think most of the different steels is a gimmick. But g10 doesn't = $200 not to mention its made in China.
@@floridamanknives I didn't mean it to be a put down towards your collection. I find I quite impressive. I myself really loved the PM2. But I was looking at the prices. After watching a video about cruwear. I'm used to benchmade being ridiculous I had 2 of their knives years ago and found them to be not worth the price. Now spyderco used to cover ever price range. But now everything is high and mostly from overseas. Here is my thoughts why can kershaw offer 20cv/ m390 for $90 on a aluminum frame. Then spyderco g10 scales $200. I'll give spyderco has a better heat treatment but not more then $100 dollars a knife with cheaper materials. Both made in USA. I personally think the knife market is getting so high it's not going to last. Now china made knives cost as much as US made with almost slave labor. Just my rant it really had nothing to do with you collection as much as my disgust with spyderco marketing and the super steel hustle.
@@richardhenry1969 no worries brother!! Also I love your name 😂😂. You made some good points I agree with. One of the things that always perplexes me is the really expensive China Made knives. I remember when I first started seeing them, I thought they were $400 American made but nope! Lol
@@floridamanknives I like the other alloy clip that the Spyderco knives come with besides the wire clip one. I think its just a nicer looking pocket clip.
I appreciate it 👍
I also plan on making a Top 10 Favorite Spydercos which will feature some other models for sure.
I like the mantra 1 because it's pretty much just a flipper delica with Titanium and m4 so it's like an upgrade from the delica in most ways and the meerkat is just alot cooler and just as nice in the hand as the dragonfly
@@sunnyrachelsson3169 agreed!!
Can’t wait for the manix 2 lw’s converted over to screws instead of rivets.
You and me both!!!! Thanks for watching bro!
@@floridamanknivesi just ordered one on sale but turns out old stock with rivets
1) Stretch 2 in K390 (best "blue collar worker" knife)
2) Dragonfly 2 wharncliffe in K390 (best "white color worker" knife)
3) Kapara (best larger EDC, can handle smaller kitchen tasks)
4) Sage 2 (an ergonomic Sebenza, sadly discontinued)
5) UK Penknife in LC200 (lightweight, complies with saltwater and knife laws (< 3" slipjoint), I've the MagnaCut on order)
I am a fan most of the Endura series.
That native chief😍😍😍
Recently bought the dragonfly 2 in cru-wear and carbon fiber. A little over priced but couldn't resist!
That is really awesome!! Congratulations! I missed that one, but I’ll be getting the up coming DLT trading cru-wear Dragonfly 2. I’m happy you got one 👍
@@floridamanknives thanks 👍 it's pretty cool for sure! Kinda over kill steel for a lil knife but had to have it👌
@@garyharvey842 you can never have overkill steel for a knife ;) haha but I’m excited to try it out, I’ve never used cru-wear.
@@floridamanknives lol right! I was mainly talking about price, but your definitely right 👍
I have a Para3 and a UKPK. I’d like to add a Delica or Native and I’ll call it done
Good stuff
The SpydieChef and the Manix2 and the Sage2 Ti are the blades to go. Period.
i prefer the chaparral over the dragonfly because it's thinner and sits deeper in the picket..i also like the urban.
Thanks for sharing!! I need to try the Chaparral out, but can’t decide which variant to go with! I appreciate you watching and commenting 🙌👍
actually probably the greatest would be the manix xl , subvert , bowie , k2 , police special ZDP-189 4inch ,if i think of something else i hit u up i think i remember one super bad ass spyderco called Captain
i hope the spyderco bowie gets made again
I used to have the first generation Monster when they were $99 dollars, those were the days! My father still has the one I got him.
It’s been hard holding my fun money since it Looks like I’m going to blade show unless something unknown comes up.
That’s awesome he still has the one you got him!
I would imagine! I decided not to go this year so fortunately I didn’t have to save for it.
@@floridamanknives he does he has had the movement replaced once.
I think you are missing out and your list is lacking because you Haven't handled or bought what many people feel is one of the best wonder is ever made, the Shaman. Not trolling as I appreciate your opinion and the content but you have to use the shaman before you can do a top 10 spyderco list
New #1 is the Smock. Used to be the PM2.
Good heat treated blades is the word on these spydercos . Like over 61 ?
Love it!!!
Thanks Gruggs!!!!! 🙌🙌🙌
Does the lw para 3 feel slippery to anyone else
Great video! My favorite is the spydiechef. Also been searching for a Paysan and a reasonably priced Nirvana. Would help if you listed the knives in the description.
Thank you very much man!!! I would love a Paysan, and the Nirvana is my all time Grail. I appreciate the comment! 🙌🙌🙌
Can we get a chuckle count on this video?
I dyed my cpm 20cv lightweight para 3 purple
Awesome :D
Thank you man!!! 😃
That Bowie in the #2 spot is shaped like a classic Buck.
0:24 also dam bro nice ice
I appreciate it!!!
Native, SpyMyto, Sage 1, Tenacious, SpydieChef, Slysz Bowie.
My manix 2 weighs 6 ozs. 😮
👍👍👍👍👍👍 from 305
I realize this is just one man's opinion but I would have put the Shaman near the top for the ergonomics alone. Other than the Sage 5 lw, I don't like FRN, so we may just have different tastes.
Thanks for watching and the great comment!!
I've got that #11 Endura...nice blade for EDC! No Shaman...WTF?
you have to write more in the description that way UA-cam will put you in the algorithm. at least some links or a list of the knives names bud. unless you don't care about growing the channel
👍
🙌🙌🙌
I really don’t like the FRN. It just doesn’t feel as solid.
Get a Chaparral. You'll be impressed.
I need to!
Where is the Native 5?
Any experience with the Mantra 1, or any of the Bradley collabs or the Amalgam? The amalgam seems to fly under everyone's radar but it's such an amazing knife.
Didnt see any flippers on your list, but as long as that's not a deal breaker then the Mantra 1 is basically a high end delica.
Great video. I always enjoy seeing other people's choices of best Spydies.
Edit: if your number 1 is the dfly2 then you'll LOVE the Dodo!
I'd say my top 10 Spydercos would be:
1. Maxamet manix 2 (Ti scales!)
2. K2
3. M4 tanto pm2
4. Police 4 k390 (or Rex 45 chief, haven't decided yet)
5. Mantra 1
6-10 in no particular order:
Hundred Pacer, Amalgam, Paysan, Dodo, Zoomer
I added fatcarbon scales to my K2 essentially turning it into a liner lock, and it's easily my most used, but that completely changed the knife so I can't call it my number 1.
@@floridamanknives
You're right, the flipper tab is definitely/can definitely be a problem on the Mantra 1.
I never thought I’d be able to own an Advocate......😍🤔
I hope they do a PM2 Tanto grind on another exclusive and hopefully I’ll be lucky enough to get one!! I never thought about using the Hundred Pacer in the Kitchen either, very interesting!
The price on the Dodo is the only reason I don’t have one. I hopefully will one day! I love the BladeHQ Exclusives, and hope they release more. Thank you man!
Is bro geeked? 😂😂 laughing constantly
22:22 you're not supposed to do that on UA-cam bro
Spyderco
I really used to like spyderco but they are so crazy priced now I don't think I'll ever buy another one.
I personally think most of the different steels is a gimmick. But g10 doesn't = $200 not to mention its made in China.
We are all entitled to our own opinions, but I hear ya on some of the different steels. Thanks for watching!
Lol
shaman>?>?>?>?>?
cyan not teal
I hate the pocket clip its so cheap looking.
Which one! (The regular Hourglass clip?)
I have to check...but I may have MXG Clips on every one of my non wire clip Spydercos at this point lol.
@@floridamanknives I like the other alloy clip that the Spyderco knives come with besides the wire clip one. I think its just a nicer looking pocket clip. But I know what you mean about Spyderco knives there beatiful in every way and sharp as hell and I love flicking them open with the Spdy hole and love closing them with the awesome compression lock. My favorite Spydercoes which are mostly anyone but I love most of mine in the black DLC BLADE COATING.
@@johnnyventurino8947 I love the coated blades too!!! Plus it’s interesting because the American models use DLC but the Seki-City ones use Titanium CarboNitride.
@@floridamanknives whats the difference between them both.
@@johnnyventurino8947 I will make a video on it!
Once again a knife review ruined because the reviewer feels the need to show everyone he can flip the blade open, over and over again.
The lightweight knives are garbage
Not even close
Pray tell us more🤷♂️
