  • As promised, the complete build plan for our 2024 Subaru Outback Wilderness. A month ago I didn't plan on getting a 2024 Outback Wilderness, but I'm glad I did. As most of you know, this build will be done differently and with some key features in mind that I will go over in detail in this video. If you just picked up a 2024 Outback Wilderness and don't really know where to start, this may help you in your journey.

LOVE that building! Grew up with and worked at a family owned full service Exxon. Pumped gas, washed windshields, and checked oil before turning wrenches and driveing tow trucks. People would come there just to "bench race" and play a hand of poker on the coffee machine cups. (That was the 80's in Va) Great memories. Love forward to your pinky up build. I've kept mine pretty basic but love watching people go nuts and if I see something I like, I'll do it. Kind of like I used to go to model homes to get idea for my house. As usual, thanks for the vid

@@roamingwithjosh yes it on the windshield. I’ve used it on my wrx, Forster and jeep XJ. Only problem I’ve had is in summer it gets hot and falls off but I just put it back on no problem. They have other mount to hard mount them to dashboards or round pipes (like handlebars). The case is also amazing, I’ve had my iPhone 10 since new with quadlock cases and have never had a screen crack or anything and I drop my phone often as I’m pretty rough with all my things.

Gonna be cool seeing the new setup now that you've been driving and offroading a subaru for a bit!
Also, you won't be disappointed with the Nittos, I've been running them since I had 1300 miles on my forester, and they're a great tire for it. As for the wheels, I know a lot of people were going for the Reika's, I myself went for the Reika R25s, but they were oversold, so I went with their R20s.

Peak Design makes some good camera mounts. Used an air vent one, but the vent placements not ideal on the Outback, plus the phone kind of blocks it. Now I just toss it into the cubby by the gearshift and run everything through CarPlay, letting my older eyes take advantage of the big-screen goodness. Another option you might try (I haven't tried in the car yet) is a MagSafe accessory from Moment that has 1/4-20 and 3/8 mounts on the back. The magnets very solid, pair it with a SmallRig magic clamp/arm, or any of the myriad of camera mounts out there and find a place to mount it.

I’ve been eyeing the Method Beadgrip rims, maybe 707 or 706, but don’t know enough about them. For power I went with a bluetti ac60 +b80, which allows me to take one out around camp and leave the b80 in the car to power the fridge (2x power inputs too, so victron 20a dc/dc off the auxbeam, roofbox mounted 100w solar, dc cig lighter, or 200w folding panels, whatever 2 are more appropriate for the day). Still looking for a good mount option for the auxbeam controller and phone mount (maybe the peak design charging one?).

I can't speak to the other cars, but I had a JGC before my first Outback, and Outback smashed my old JGC in comfort, quiet, and gas mileage. I older, too, and like the height, no driver focus system, suspension, full size spare, *great* cabin air filter (which no one talks about), and quiet of the car but *really* good sound system on the Outback Wilderness. The turbo engine is *fun,* though I limit its use to keep my gas mileage in control.

I absolutely love my GX, but it's just not the same kind of vehicle. If I could only have one it would be the Wilderness due to it's flexibility and overall comfort. Hope that helps!

fan from Europe here, we only get the 2.5 :( , but still a great car. Regarding the wheels, take a look at Evo corse Dakar or Sparco terra. Evo corse is an old italian company with a long tradition on rally car wheels(with Subaru is famous for ), they are very light and durable and look great on Subaru. Same for Sparco Terra. Myself I am leaning towards Evo corse for mine. Need to sell it to the wife as well, tough :) . Tires - I would give the geolandars a chance. I had them many years ago. on Landcruiser J120 and on a Hilux. Never. had a puncture, and I was in some rough places. ( A tour of Albania comes to mind, high temperatures, very sharp rocks, last place you want to have a flat. ) Are there 10 ply grippier tires out there ? sure. But usually they come with more noise, weight and a fuel economy penalty. My 2023 Outback came with some Bridgestone alenza, a summer tire, and changed them quick to the geolandars.
Good luck with the build. !
