Hi Marshall, We love the video! The whole studio (especially the audio department) really appreciates you showing off and explaining the weapons.
You got almost all of it right, almost.
Thanks for making such a great sounding game! I want to play the beta with you guys and chat about what I got wrong ;)
Appreciate the kind words
Let him do an interview with the audio department!
It's so cool to see big name studios paying attention to small youtubers.
Remove fake sounds
Aw this is just wholesome af
Battlefield 1's kill confirmed sound is one of my favourites
Exactly. Actually there are few FPS games out now that has these satisfying sounds. My personal fav now is from Apex Legends / Titanfall 2. That *pheww*
Oh yes, reminds me of the bc2 sound
Bf in general sounds amazing
Headshot is beautiful also
@@sonyviva308 in sandstorm you just hear a scream, sometimes you hear nothing and just see a mist of blood.
when i am on the range i usually dont get notifications sounds when i hit my target, i just get yelled at when i miss.
There is actually realism to the first shot being louder. Barrels fill with air/oxygen when not being fired, and the first shot ignites all that. First round pop is a thing, especially for suppressed weapons, it makes it noticeably louder.
and thats just the mechanical effect....
what the fuck are you even talking about i was in the infantry for 8 years 3 of those in recon platoon you are talking absolute shit
if you are going full auto it only sounds like its getting more muffled because your ears are adjusting to the extra noise if you do that too much you will hear the sound of their people the song of tinnitus
@@indeed7289Calm down cowboy, you could just have said "actualy that is not true because...", no need to be rude
@@indeed7289 I mean... we can do an experiment on this and measure the dB as it's in full auto and do a comparison. Don't just abuse people lmao
@@indeed7289 sure, that happened
Someone send this to Ubisoft, breakpoint needs it desperately.
ghost recon in general lol
Masterbong_420 Yeah I noticed both wildlands and breaking point are horribly dull and the same.
@TruthSeeker 1453 I mean for the past few years they were releasing some nice games unlike the others.
not just breakpoint, division 1 and 2 has terrible gun sounds
Nothing but retarded opinions.
Dont know if yall know, you can change the hit marker sound
how?
I hoped they would’ve made the HM sounds more like Titanfall 2, where they sound a bit more satisfying, like bullets hitting armour at high velocity.
You can change it to either off or classic
@Mr. Teton thats the best
@Mr. Teton the classik one is the best its the Sound from mw3
The new game “Control” has some of the coolest sound design in recent memory. Every single time you use a power, you really feel it. Never gets old. I highly suggest looking it.
IKR. That whistling of the wind when you pick objects up and the subtle thumping sound when you jump and dash through the air. Even the crystal/glass shatter effects when you cleanse control points, and the cracking from the debris to form up shields. Had a blast playing it.
I dont recommend the game
@@RAiNfORAiNbOW same, ending is not worth it
Dude, you just melted my brain. Never thought about the sound design in this way.
SeasonOfWhatNow the bullet shell impact shit changed my perspective
Shows you how much effort goes though making a game
"why are these sound effects so amazing!?" - Battlefield: Bad Company
You're taking cover behind some dirty crumbling building. You're about to step out when you hear the crack of a sniper round ; you scramble back behind the wall. Maybe he's got a perch in the hills, or maybe he's in the tower. In the distance, small arms rat-a-tat back and forth as if in conversation. Your squadmates scream over the radio, telling you that the enemy is advancing. Suddenly you become aware of bullets smacking into the ground near you. You move away from the corner and bring your weapon up to your shoulder and try to prepare for them. You just make out two words because the wind direction was favorable - "Grenada pashla!". An unholy blast sounds nearby. You fire your weapon blindly but you can't hear it for all the ringing in your ears. As you regain your hearing, you hear a sound, distant at first, but growing: "thunk thunk thunk...thunk thunk thunk". You hear this, and you are relieved. The cavalry has arrived.
That was BFBC 2 for me!
Oh man the sound design of bad company was amazing.
They really need to make an over-the-top battlefield again, the way everything blew up obnoxiously or how extreme the environmental damage got was the best
@@MrSeropamine And Bad Company 1 as well.
This game makes insurgency sandstorm even more underrated.
Especially for a small team. They sound staged most of their weapons and did so in different environments.
Just go take a look at Escape From Tarkov, oh maaan.
At first i tought this guy is ironic, but no, he just dont have a clue, lol.
Goodmydaniel the actual gunfire sounds in particular in Tarkov are weak asf. It’s like you’re shooting a full auto 22
@@rickopika6480 what?
"Why the Guns In Escape From Tarkov Sound So Incredible"
It's the first FPS game that makes me jump when i get shot, like you don't get over it or used to it.
You need volume loud enough to hear footsteps, cracks, glass etc. but boy when you are constant listening for all those things and someone opens fire on you it's loud as hell. The many times i got scared to death and couldn't even react.
I think DayZ's shooting was the first to ever give me slight ptsd. I still remember the giant shootouts that'd happen in NWAF and suddenly getting lit up out of nowhere was horrifying. BF4 also did bullet cracks really well.
Squad was the first one to give me slight PTSD with me never played a milsim game before just getting lit up out of nowhere and dying or just getting shot at and immediately just going prone.
tarkov is the most terrifying milsim online shooter to date
less is more, plus the player in these games aren't bullet sponges. in most scenarios, 1-3 shots can kill the player. So with this the player isn't a powered human being running and gunning. Therefore milsim games (squad, tarkov etc ) drives home the feeling of vulnerability.
As players mostly dont want to die/lose combined with the easy death, it causes players to use whatever advantage they can get (ie footsteps), since we are intently listening, we can appreciate the sound design of the guns more (consciously or unconsciously). Things like the buildings, condition of the building, the need to do self-first aid, ammo being realistic ( real bullet count for mags) further creates the atmosphere, environment, the feeling and thoughts that the player experiences. AND THAT IS AWESOME! and why we love playing such games.
Realism ! Haha
Love that little cough at the end of the kill confirm at 7:51 - made my day.
"Audio deserves more credit in games..." Couldn't agree more. As I've been following this channel I've started to glimpse just how the much audio is key to basically all of my favorite media - not just games (but especially games). Whether it's ambiance, or each action, or the main score, or a voiced line, the power of well detailed and layered and mixed audio astounds me, and it's so enjoyable to learn more about the creative work behind it.
Love the channel, great work!
Hes saying, reloading mag
I love the impact that the guns have when you kill someone, it makes each kill in the game so satisfying.
The death animations are so real, sometimes I feel bad lmao
Especially snipers
Looks like DICE finally have a serious contender
except for the way it will be milked for cash in a couple months...
Felix B sandstorm is where it’s at. Too bad not many people know the game.
@@gangbel5158 sandstorm is a huge let down compared to the original insurgency
@Gōdon Gurando it's a departure from what the original game was about it doesn't even feel the same technology aside it doesn't feel like insurgency
@@TheSpaceMacaroni somebody hasn't played battlefield 1 or Battlefront
I have a new respect for video game audio engineers. Never realized how much goes into it and how layered the sounds are. Great vid
when you get praise from InfinityWard itself 👀
the sounds in modern warfare are absolutely remarkable, i love it.
Here after being disappointed from Black Ops Cold War sound design.
Lol same
I forgot which game but there is this story of a gun that people we're complaining about being to weak. In a new patch the devs made the sound design more powerful and everyone loved them for making the gun better although they didn't change any stats. That really says something about the importance of sound design.
i think that was *Return to Castle Wolfenstein* yeah?
@@SkyIsTumbling yup
Marshall already mentioned this in another video
Happened in, funnily enough, Advanced Warfare with one of the shotguns
That was basically CoD for a while. I loved CoD WW2 but a lot of the guns sounded pathetic, like they were lacking power in that game. Also I swear games like Black Ops 3 used the same ambient sounds for a lot of their full auto weapons, which bothered me a bit.
I LOVE the cracking sound as bullets fly over or hit near you. Actually makes you anxious in realism mode
Everything from being able to distinguish .223, 9mm, 12 gauge casings hitting the ground, racking a round into the chamber, to the sound of polymer / aluminum mags being inserted. Everything sounds fantastic.
Bf1 has the best Kill Confirmed till date!!!
Captain Merica Nothing like throwing a grenade into a room full of enemies and hearing the sound play over and over! Never gets old!
I've always been impressed by the CoD sounds. I've worked on music for a few CoD trailers and their isolated sfx tracks always blow my mind. You can achieve some of that hollow plunky sound running your sounds through the ableton vocoder and adjusting the eq bands as well as depth and formant.
I literally just found this channel by accident a few days ago, loving the content. I had no idea that sound engineering was so complex and interesting. I knew that games always needed good audio, but I had no idea that it needed to be this complex, so as an indie dev I'm glad I found this channel before I finished anything early on!
Especially the snapping noises of the bullets hitting the floor around you make the game so hardcore
Thank you so much for your videos. It's surprising how little documentation there is with sound design.
There are hundreds of animating, coding, game design, and other shit. But nothing on Sound Design! You're carving a path, my friend. Keep up the great work!
Whether you believe or not or hate the game or not, I haven't heard such amazing sounds since ghosts.
Ghosts sounded terrible every gun sounded weak
I don't think so.
I'm assuming you mean within COD? Because there are plenty of games with superb sound design out there!
I love you at the end showing all the different layers and putting it together, it made me more aware of all of the sounds used, I could now hear the bass, and other sounds which I couldn't hear before because I wasn't aware of it. Good vid!
I love the hitmarkers because it sounds so visceral, it sounds like bullets punching into someone.
The firecracker sound of incoming fire is crazy accurate, too.
Man, you really opened my eyes (or ears, rather) about the smallest, yet some of the most important details about games that we play. Really cool stuff!
Sound plays a huge role in my opinion. Proper sound design makes getting kills so satisfying. Like the sound when you tag someone in the head with a deagle, and you hear the thump of the hitmarker, crack of the skull, and a pulpy wet bloody sound. I love the feature that lets you change your hitmarker sound too.
This video is amazing. I cannot believe how much passion and detail is put into something as deceptively simple as a gunshot in a game. I've been parroting to all my friends since last weekend how good the audio is in this beta and how it makes the gunplay feel so good, thank you for breaking this down for me! Subscribed!
Wow I was kinda thinking about getting into sound design for a living but after having watched a few vids on your channel I think I'll just go for it. It seems like the best career ever.
Too far go for it I believe in you💯
Too far just do it cant hurt to try right :D
im in sound, my advice is to learn art, animation, web development, etc, to supplement your skills. only the biggest companies can afford to have a dedicated sound team and studio. also, don't quit your day job. most of my work is done at home, i had to spend thousands of dollars on my own bedroom studio just to be employable.
Glad I found you, I've been making my own game where I want the sound design perfect along with the lighting. Those are my two favorite aspects in any game.
whats it about
Dude, I really loved this video. So well structured. We actually really learn lots of very interesting things, that YOU made even more interesting. Didn't feel like this for a video from a long time. I love the way you make us kind of participate through the video, and how built step by step your own sounds effects to provide an example. You really seem passionate, thanks !
I've been making sound mods for games for around two years, and recently have started getting much more involved in how I go about mixing and implementing the sounds - so I found this video very interesting and informative
Have you heard escape from tarkov gun sounds? They're amazing
M1A sounds incredible in EFT.
@Slavic Soul I'm starting to get the hang of it, just takes a lot of practice but worth it
Nope
"Remember switching to your pistol is always faster than reloading" xd 5:12
I gotta say, i really enjoyed this video you did an amazing job analysing the sound effects and i could tell that you put in a lot of effort on this video, you definitely deserve more attention and that fact that infinity Ward themselves watched and commented on the video shows that this video is really something
Great job bro
This is bloody brilliant! The effort and patience you have with sound and editing is on par with the quality of your videos. Love your work mate
It took them a while, but they've finally improved the audio design. With the graphics improvements as well, it made me realise how similar it now looks and sounds like Battelfield lmao
I am in love with this. It is what brought me to this game. I love the sound, as someone who has been in the heat of it. These sounds are home and I love the design that they brought into the game.
that full mix is tight AF. Awesome work, M!
Thank you Marshall for making these kinds of videos. It really gives a much deeper insight into sound design. I also like the way you put together the whole video with proper examples.
I think you just created a great tutorial for a good gunplay in the game.
I love this channel a lot, thank you for all of the amazing info.
Congrats to 100k subs! Found your channel yesterday and I love it :)
Your channel is kinda making me want to become a sound designer, this process is so amazing. All your videos remaking game sounds are all amazing
The animations also add so much.
👏 👏 Sound Review
This was good stuff.
Randomly remembered this video. Good times. Weird a game which feels like it was relased yesterday is 5 years old now.. and I’ve veen saying the same since mw2, I think I’m going crazy
Loved the video! The final mix was satisfying to hear. Maybe I'll try making my own sounds, it's the only thing I need to be able to make a FPS feel like one.
You can change the sounds of the hitmarker to classic, the good ol' loud hitmarker
Totally forget the game was having an open beta and your video reminded me literally 5 minutes before the beta starts :))))
Game audio design is the place where I lack the most knowledge. I found your video really easy to understand and fun to watch. Subscribed!
Wow, how have I not known about this channel all these years! Sub! Thanks for highlighting the importance of audio design in games and especially this game. Well done!
It sound like some typing really fast on a typewriter lol
Great video! You should cover the explosion sequences in subnautica, I haven't heard a game with better explosion sounds yet
The MP5 in this game sounds so good. The noise it makes during reloading has such amazing meaty presence.. wack a suppressor on it and it just gets better.
This found my way into my recommendations and man was this good! I've always been into this stuff and you break it down and explain everything so well, you got a sub from me! 👏

While we’re talking sounds, anyone wanna talk about how this guy sounds like Gabe from The Office
Awesome work, loved how you made your own recreation
This is why Black Ops 4 multiplayer felt so smooth. The guns actually felt like they had kick. The bass in the gun noises paired with the controller vibration made it really immersive.
The new Borderlands game has some extremely good weapon sounds! It really makes every one of them feel unique!
In general they upped their sound design game in this one.
I’m just waiting for the pc release
You should make a video on the gun sounds in the SQUAD game. They sound amazing.
the squad gun sounds have been downgraded since .9 i believe, the guns used to sound so much better
@@Opachki69420 Nah, with some of the latest versions they've updated the sounds and added new weapons in that sound really good.
@@Opachki69420 the pre-v10 M4 sounded lackluster, same with the other weapons
@@geromy3154 they actually changed it for the worse according to a video i saw mentioning downgrades, they also downgraded the graphics in v12

As a studio audio engineer, and an avid gamer. This is some golden content right here!
I found your channel recently and have been binging the videos. Great stuff! You need to make a playlist with all the main videos, though.
I'd love to see a video from you on Insurgency: Sandstorm!

It really takes a lot of hard work to make something like this. Respect to all sound editors out there.
I think the best part is the sound when you hear the bullets fly at you. (Uncoming fire)

Thisbis great to see someone acknowledge the audio in MW! I was blown away by hiw visceral and real it sounded and felt while playing! Especially killstreaks!
when the aim is missed and the bullets hits the rocks, thats somehow satisfying , and thats not even an excuse for my bad aiming, some times when enemy does that it gave me panic attack
BEFORE WATCHING: its because they did it the right way like how treyarch did the audio for WAW
Gun sounds in WaW were atrocious.

>Escape From Tarkov: hold my beer blyat
I love games like Titan Fall 2 that put in little details with the weapons, the Spitfire LMG would make an amazing hollow metallic noise you emptied the magazine, meaning the gun's bolt carrier had no more bullets left to chamber
really really interesting video and editing here man, thoroughly enjoyed the video, forgot that I had to do homework lol
Previous titles guns sound like nerfs, these sound like softairs. Not much of an improvement.
