I agree! Could also do lane mathematics on the through-road over the bridge, so it's one turning lane for traffic wanting to join the highway, with only one lane ahead over the bridge (or do it the other way with 2 ahead lanes and a third turning lane). But really no reason to have straight ahead as an option for cars that have just left the highway on those perpendicular ramps.

Instead of having 3 lanes on the freeway junction for that area, use 2 lanes and only let them turn instead of going allowing them to go straight

I'm loving the new train station area, I want to live there :P Also I suggest it should be called Biscuitton. So you have Tea and Biscuits. There's a lot of names that can be derived from biscuits ;)
If you don't want boneheads like at 17:40, why have you got 3 lanes where one is dedicated to go across? Why not just restrict it and say they can't go across? You could still use the the middle lane for either left or right turns (or if you feel really bold, both).

I think an eco-themed mini city would be a great idea to go along with your desire for lots of green spaces. Big lush green roundabouts, lots of walking routes, you could even put a little lake near some low density housing on the outskirts. I look forward to the next video :)

  • @ThatBaritoneGuitarGuy
    @ThatBaritoneGuitarGuy 4 роки тому +1

1: At that new highway junction, get rid of the straight-on lane. Only have the turn lanes.
2: Also, here is a challenge for you. Since buildings can be placed on walking paths, I would like to see a small "car-free town" with no roads at all. Bonus points if the "car-free town" is a lakeside or mountain village, sort of like Switzerland or Austria are known for. Or, the "car-free town" could even be an island town.
3: At some point, the top of one of those mountains needs to have an observatory. Think sort of like the Sphinx Observatory in Switzerland.

There is a small valley on the other side of the mountain that limits victoria park and howthorn park. There you could have a nice low density old town with medieval architecture. Small road going around the mountain and bus connection.
It is located at 08:34 west to those 2 mentioned regions. It has a small river there too.
You could place a castle and the old market street (i don't remember how it is called). I know you already placed it but doesn't fit where it currently is. This new valley would be the perfect spot. An old church would be awesome too.

Got a few ideas for this area that maybe you'd be interested in.
    1) Seconding the cable car idea from elsewhere (and pushing it again in general); a route that goes from atop the mountain (could be a fun spot for a leisure/resort area), down to the base, across to the metro hub you've set up, and then terminates at the far side of the river could be really neat.
    2) If the plan is a coastline park, perhaps split the coast between different park types. Looks like there's plenty of room for a Zoo and Amusement Park.
    3) Plenty of foot & bike paths across the river. You could extend the Park zones from my suggestion above to put small gates on the far side of the river to charge people to cross, since that's something you seem to make separate park zones to do already.
    4) They don't seem to get used a lot, but adding a Helipad & Airship hub to connect to the far-flung reaches of the city seems like it would help with the foot traffic. IIRC both are pretty popular with passengers, so the challenge is having enough vehicles.
    5) Since you've got a tram line for the "inner loop" along the waterfront, maybe have a monorail ring around the edge of this new town?

    The way I see it
-Hillside Heights sounds to me like a very affluent district. I think it should mostly feature large houses, high end shopping, and plenty of recreation like tennis and if you can maybe a small golf course.
-Victoria Hills should be a historical district featuring heavily renovated houses from the Victorian times. I think it would be nice if they had some historic point of interest like an old theater or maybe a historic church and plaza.
-Hawthorne park would probably be a middle class but slightly more industrial zone. I think these people would mostly work at the industrial areas in TeaVille. I think it should be built like a smaller city next to Teaville with some offices and independent services but nothing tall enough to give it a skyline distinguishable from Teaville. I think we should go for a small-town or suburb feel here.
-You said Mill Hills would be a park but I think it wouldn't hurt to put a few statues/memorial points of interest one. The Natural Disasters memorial with the hands reaching out to each other or maybe a sports stadium are both things I think people would appreciate

I would add some trees back on the train station that way it wouldn’t look like a blank space.
2 lanes coming off the highway.
The second junction on the main highway is a great idea!
Cable-Car rides to the top of the mountain with a small town with a birds eye view of the city!!!
If I’m not mistaken there is a train / rail line mod that allows you to build realistic rail yards with different types of freight cars. Might be something to look into, maybe not in that area but...

Biffa, just a few ideas for the new area:
    1. As there is already a quick highway connection & rail line connecting this area to the main city, an old country road meandering through the open space between there one of Teaville's modern suburbs, possibly even stopping short as its route onward has been bulldozed for the grid based suburbs.
    2. The area immediately opposite the the station could be an standard office zone, possibly with a height restriction, with high density housing around it, also height restricted. The commercial centre could sit on the opposite side of the river. The rest, especially on the hillsides could be low density suburbs.
    3. A ferry to link to to the industrial area, so the car worker don't have to drive, an onward toward the city
    4. As well as a direct train link to the city centre a couple of other routes to the Urniversity & the airport could save a lot of unnecessary passenger car journeys.
    5. A link between the tram line and the train station should also cut down on unnecessary car journeys.
    6. When you build a second highway access, place a zoo near by so passing traffic can have easy access to it without clogging the streets of the new suburbs, then link by bus to the bus station, if not close to tram link.
    7. The suggestion of a cable car to the hills made by checker2013, with some sort of attraction at the top would make an interesting feature. Especially so if the whole mountain area beyond the currently outlined suburban limits was turned into a country park.
    Keep up the good work

Hillside Heights: Renamed to Yorkshire Valley, High Density Residential with an Office area.
Victoria Hills: renamed to Tea-burbia, Low Density self-sustained residential with cul-de-sacs and curvy roads (may want to terraform small hills throughout the area) to give a very suburbian feel
Hawthorne Park: renamed to Sugar Circle (or whatever you drink tea with, honey?) A Commercial park with a roundabout as a centerpiece with a mall. Maybe with some low density housing around the area in a half-moon shape along the river.
I'm also seconding the Zoo along the river idea!

  • @koncan5

Hey Biffa, in my city I have a highway intersection similar to that, but you've allowed people to go straight across (those folks that are coming off the highway then going straight ahead). A good intuitive fix for that is removing the straight on lane. Also, I have a roundabout on each side of the bridge, and then I disable the right turning lanes as well. It just means that anyone that wants to turn right (going across busy traffic) can go left to the roundabout, then turn around. It works really nicely and everything flows super well. I hope you can try it. Thanks for all the quality content Biffa!

With the park being so big you should definitely put a zoo and an amusement park! You could call the amusement park Gravi-Tee (like gravity). I'd also love to see kind of an "old town" area on the other side of the river. Skinny lanes and max 2-3 storey buildings in an older style. You could go nuts with the pedestrian roads and do some beach front walkways. Maybe near the mountains would be a good spot for a campground? Bring back the ski lifts and such from your winter map.

    Hi,
Since you've got loads of mountains there, perhaps you could use the cable car to go to their tops? Pity CSL doesn't have a mountain train system... that would have been cool.
Also, you might want to have one of the areas of the new town use an older building style theme, like it's been there for a very long time. Which would be a great opportunity to move the really ugly old town market street here and away from where you placed it before where it sticks like a fish out of water... And since you're on a river, you could place the water fortress - perhaps as part of the park? Turn it into a tourist attraction? And while you're at it, also build the CSL castle on one of the mountains. So it'll all kind of fit together.

Great addition. Maybe use some of the Chalet/Mountain styles on the workshop and build onto the side of that mountain a little bit. Some winding roads snaking up, and a cable car down to the station? Like a Skii-resort/nature reserve by the river combination. No industry here, but some tourism?

Teaville like the idea of calling the new area biscuit, with a nice "old town" like its been there ages until they build the new Train and bus terminal with the park. Maybe even a Ferry line like it was there before the main highway was built.
I agree with the there being some sort of Hill top Resort posh area with Helicoptor access

Hey Biffa, for the upper (bigger) part you should mimic the lines of the mountain and create somethig like a tree with roads resembling the trunk and brunches.

Coool, brand new an fresh improvement on Teaville!
So i would like to suggest you some ideas:
-For the big green area, why don't you add some labyrinth made out of bushes (Alice in wonderland thing)
-It would be really nice if you create some detalied elementary school and high school with soccer fields, park, outdoor areas and parking!
-And also it would be nice to have like some really green living area with bike lanes and green houses.
    Good episode!

Played this map a few times and love it! I'd love to see you build an island fishing village on the other end of the map. There are some great islands with port/fishing opportunities and it could represent a challenge with limited public transport and access. You could also limit yourself with a small farming town further down the map. Make something natural and rural.

Watching you build TeaVille has helped me to improve not only my road networks in CS (81-83% traffic flow with despawning turned off at 64k pop feels amazing), but it has really helped me to design more creatively. I still seem to have some struggle with my city looking a bit blocky and in-organic in its flow, but each one gets better and better. C:

What about a nice train ride along the mountain with a nice platform on the top which visitors can use to get the great view of The city. Cable car rides should be in your city as well! Look up for Swiss panoramic trains and use them.

17:55 You still have boneheads going up the ramp and off the other side. But for some reason you have three lanes coming up to allow for dedicated turning lanes; left, STRAIGHT ON and right. You obviously don't need a straight on lane. So turn it into a two lane road and force the lanes to only go left and right. Then you can't get any boneheaded manoeuvres.

For Hillsite Heights I would love to see some low residential housing and some commercial. Then the park. The near the hill some high residential housing. Also; instead of using 3 lanes, use two and not let the go straight.

That park area in the middle could just be a nice big jogging/biking loop with park in the middle? A lot of cities will do a 5+mile loop around big parks that people work out on. And then some monuments/statues for attraction?

Best options I’ve seen from the comments.
River side zoo. Attach tram line to train station. Cable cars on Hillside Heights. Helicopter landing pads. Use building themes and paths different than teaville. A ferry stop on Mill Hill Island. An all roads lead to a town center concept. Mountain top road overlooking Hillside. Dedicated biking paths.
Lots of good you can do. Best of luck making it happen; it’ll rock.

Ideas...Hillside Heights - mainly quiet residential, low level commercial. Victoria Hill - Mixed Commercial high and Residential high. Hawthorne Park mixed Commercial High and IT cluster. Only because your goals were to create a commuter community for greater Teaville, you have that lovely riverside park and the dead end on the edge of the map is easily convertible to highway access. Consider the area south of the highway as more low residential...working class folks that commute need highway access too. I am going to try this on my version of the same map. Looks promising. BTW, you are a genius making it look pretty. I am all thumbs in that regard plus don't have the all out cool hardware you run it on. Laptops only go so far. ;-)

For the slopes, it;s "straight slope" being weird in fine road tools. The trick is to "turn it off and on again" with shift+S (see the green light toggle). If going beyond 12U length, tends to need "elevated road" to be forced to avoid a bit of ugly raised ground (also for tunnels can be funky if first node is less than 9m undergound).

For the giant park along the river, you can try making it a tourist trap but enter and exit through the park entrance. That way you can eliminate cars? You can have one road connecting to the bus terminal to allow bus inside the park area, but exclude all other traffic type.

I think what would be good , is some High rise apartments on the mountain , over looking the City and the water
, also a High speed train , going from the new city to the massive interchange (just one stop) and so, you get intercity people and people from other parts of Tea-Ville, going into Coffee-Vile ;)
would have looked nice if you had the road/trainline going against the bottom of the mountain and then joining upto the line their
    Anyway, just suggestions :)

Riverside park in Mill Hills would be a delight. A literal park that runs alongside the river would be a wonderful. Best that you charge citizens coming into the park with money. Hillside heights I think should be a perfect place for a mixture of apartments and little houses. Victoria Hills should be your normal housing and that goes for Hawthorne too. Transportation by all means is up to you! Your the transport master!

Get near the river area some green, local farmers commercial buildings. Place the big skyscrapers on the center of Hillside Heights but leave only small houses with a privileged view of the mountains. Feels like East Salt Lake City, UT area, closer to the Rocky Mountains. The view in there is truly breathtaking.
