    This song really sums up all that is great about this band: Excellent lead vocals by Cetera and blended harmonies with Lamm and Kath, distinctive sound (only Chicago sounds like this) with wah-wah guitar and powerful horn arrangement, prodigious playing by guitarist Kath and soprano sax player Parazaider, and no wasted notes. Trombonist James Pankow wrote the song.

    The success of this song as a single in 1973 solidified Chicago's movement into MOR commercialism, although it was a catchy tune. It also solidified Cetera's taking over of the lead vocals on virtually all of the songs that the band would subsequently release as singles until he left the band in 1985. He really did have a distinctive singing voice.

    to hear and learn from. Terry Kath remains a step above most of them. If anyone can Listen to "Tell Me" from the Electra Glide in Blue Soundtrack and not be EXTREMELY moved then your soul has likely left your body at some point and you must be a zombie. The fact that Chicago went through such a sad change after Kath, speaks to his HUGE presence in the band.

    • @westrig180
      @westrig180 7 років тому

      Just north of Nederland. The Guercios donated a chunk of the property to Boulder County open space -just under 2000 acres this became the Caribou Open Space area and included the Blue Bird mine site and the Delonde homestead and barn,This was not part of the main ranch compound But just over the hill from it to the southwest. Many going up there and hiking to this old homestead think it was the studio etc. in fact it is a small farmhouse and barn .Little do they realize that over the hill thru the trees was the actual ranch where everything took place.

    I love Chicago's music, but there was just something about their early music that was so great. It was a harder rock/jazz sound that was more expressive of masculine energy. later they turned to balladeers. That's fine but just not the energy of the early Chicago, especially the first two albums. Nonetheless, their music is great and they deserve to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

      +FranknnnStein Record label looking at the competition: Rare Earth, Earth Wind and Fire, Peter Frampton, Boz Scaggs and the like. Gave mainstream pop a more R & B flavor. These sounds were coming out of Northern California____Doobie Brothers, later Pablo Cruise. Using Cetera to blunt this was a great move. He could soar with his voice and that allowed them to use more jazzy horn arrangements, That allowed them to then cross into R & B and jazz markets, while losing NONE of their core audience. Great move and showed that music professionals know what the hell they're doing (most of the time). All of this allowed Chicago to lose NOTHING in the disco era, while remaining at or near the top of the charts. And they got some memorable songs out of it to boot.

      ktownva Although Cetera had a period of success as a solo artist after leaving Chicago in 06/1985, he was much better as a member of the band, and the band was much better with him as a member. It's a shame they couldn't work it out. Of course, it was also a shame that Kath had a bad habit of playing with firearms.

      Can't disagree...however after 17 years, y'know, you grow.
      I certainly can't fault him for wanting to do his own thing.
      Remember, when it happened he was willing to stay in the band, he just wanted to do a solo album (he already had done one in 1980), but the band wanted to tour and make some HUGE $$$.
      I can't blame him a bit.

    js back is ok.. nothing great.. cause im expert on it.. they just released a top 100 ROCK artist of all time voted by musicians(not wannabe youtube dwellers) and the Beatles were voted the greatest of all time.. Mccartney is in the guiness book of world records for being the MOST PROLIFIC songwriter ever.. Beatles are still relevant.. jusin beber wont be in 45 years.. do you ever hear of nsync, back street boys, hanson brothers? y? cause they have no talent!! like i said js back bach is ok

    pretty obvious you dont research anything you talk about....whats that make you? maybe you should try being a guitarist first , then take a real moment in commenting about terry kath....
