And sadly Van McCoy Died at age 39 from a heart attack... This was his biggest success in 1975, sadly 4 years later he was gone. Makes you wonder how far he could have went - yes there were some recordings after the Hustle, that did not reach the same heights, but I think all musicians have a bit of a lull between big successes.
There are rumors that he actually died from AIDS but that disease still was "unknown" until 1981. He died in 1979 but I get the feeling that his heart attack may have been related to AIDS. Unfortunately McCoy (despite being a GREAT singer, songwriter, and orchestra conductor) never became very famous because he very definitely was gay and was perhaps afraid the world would find out about that fact. I have met multiple music industry businesspeople who knew that he very definitely was gay. Sad that America in the 60's and 70's was too intolerant for a gay musical genius to become a star.
@@misterfrias Actually, that could be totally possible... but it even could have been caused by him being a chain smoker of menthol cigarettes, and I know he definitely was a chain smoker.

With the incomparable Steve Gadd laying down the drum groove. What a great old tune. In that summer of 1975...the 10th of my then very young life, this song was playing everywhere all the time.
As I walked in to my first interview as dance instructor - I was asked to demo a dance to this song...dancing to 70's music was and is still up high and happy!!!!! godly!
Every time I hear this, it takes me back to when I was in nursery...Falkner (pronounced 'fawkner') Day Nursery to be precise. I was four at the time and I remember two nursery nurses stick out, Nurse Mary and Nurse Pat. Mary was a blonde and, not only did she have big hair (this was the 1970s) but I remember her wearing black flares and matching chunk-heeled shoes whereas Pat had centrally-parted hair and I think wore a dress but DEFFO (as we say in Liverpool) brown-coloured tights and flat sandals. I can remember what the nursery looked like as if it was yesterday; orangey-brown curtains on the inside, not to mention beds for us to lie on and outside, a paddling pool (well, it WAS the summer).
Used to love dancing to the hustle with the girls on a friday night at the local youth club. Also makes me remember sunny days at the fair. Great memories. How id love to go back to the wonderful seventies.

1975 , Greeley Colorado, we hussled in the dorms, such great times those were. Kudos to the class of 1975 😊🤎
Left us 40 years ago today - at the ridiculously young age of 39. Thankfully the wonderful music he produced lives on.
Always admired the drums and bass... Got that groove 😎👌
With the incomparable Steve Gadd laying down the drum groove. What a great old tune. In that summer of 1975...the 10th of my then very young life, this song was playing everywhere all the time.
Gosh it seems like only yesterday when we were young happening thangs and our lives were ahead of us ... where has the time gone
A masterpiece. We that lived through this period of fantastic music and records are blessed people. Just imagine what it means having missed it...
I remember entering into the discos in 1975 and playing this song...no one would be sitting !!
1973, '71 t-bird, 5:45 am , 19 years old driving to work, turn on the tunes, listened to this every morning. What a way to start the day.
BUT the song is 75
A great disco song! The 70s easily the best decade of the 20 century in so many ways!
1982 my birth year... But man, this was life. Cool beat, smooth melody, great vibes, amazing groove. I'm hustling.
DON'T LET YOUR DREAMS BE DREAMS. JUST DO IT! DO THE HUSTLE!!
Old school music is the best music ever
Magical sound to the highest degree. 1975 was a great year for music. The beginning of the disco era.😃💚💽💃👍...
The mechanism will never die
As I walked in to my first interview as dance instructor - I was asked to demo a dance to this song...dancing to 70's music was and is still up high and happy!!!!! godly!
Is this the correct video where we talk about JoJo?
Lovely! Its a "collective 70's songs" whose music is simply a "CLASSIC!" 🤗💖
Top tune. Brings back so many memories. Best disco tune of the 70s 😎
Back when music was clean, good, and simple.
Brings tears to my eyes!
Weren’t rock bands starting to pop up in the 70s ?
And funky!
Lol "clean", that's a good one right there!
@@revannihilus7961 people forget just how much drugs people consumed during those times 😂 it definitely was not clean
Maravilhosa época, excelentes músicas!!! Esta marcou minha vida!!!
Saúde e sucesso à todos!
Van McCoy deserves an Unsung episode, please TV One!
