- Welcome back to the Mae Hong Son road trip! Today, join me as I conquer the heights of Thailand, reaching the summit of Doi Inthanon, the crown jewel of the Land of Smiles. Standing proudly at 2,565 meters above sea level, this majestic peak promises breathtaking views and a chillier vibe than you'd ever expect in Thailand!
We explore the chilly summit, where temperatures have even flirted with -5 degrees, though not officially recorded. Fun fact: the title of the coldest place in Thailand goes to Sakon Nakhon, boasting temperatures of -1.5 degrees! Who would've thought?
Taking a leisurely stroll around the summit, we'll soak in the stunning scenery and pay a visit to the Royal pagodas, just a short 5-minute jaunt down from the peak. These pagodas are not only historical wonders but also provide a serene backdrop to the highest point in Thailand.
Leaving the summit behind, get ready for the thrill of a lifetime as I cruise down one of the best roads I've ever ridden - the Doi Inthanon to Mae Chaem road is an absolute dream for any road trip enthusiast. The wind in your hair, the curves beneath your wheels - pure bliss!

Fun Fact: Sakon Nakhon is officially the coldest place in Thailand, recording a temperature of -1.5 degrees. But.....Doi Inthanon has the coldest temp that was was never made official -5 degrees.

For a second there i thought you werent going up to the temples...its the best part one of my highlights when i went in 2017, it was 5 celcius on that day, as a canadian i found it quite comfy, im sure the thais thought i was nuts with the knee length shorts

Wayne, thanks for the video. It was excellent. Last May on the hottest day of the year I rode my bicycle up Doi Inthanon to the very top. Most of the way it was 35 degrees. At the very top it was 26.67 degrees. The scenery and views were amazing throughout the ride up.
Wow, I would be a wreck if I rode a bicycle up here. Well done! Yes, so much scenery on the way up. I wanted to stop at some of the other waterfalls but had to get moving. Thanks.

I've cycled to the top of Doi Inthanon from Chiang Mai via Chom Thong, then home the back way through Mae Wang. It's a long way and the view from the top, as you found out, is a bit underwhelming. There are nice views on the way up and it's another tick in the box.

Nice! I can't imagine cycling up here. I have a few friends that cycle all over Thailand. I'm shattered doing it on a motorbike 🤣. Yes, the summit view was a let down, but the pagoda view made up for it. Thanks.

Wayne it's cold enough down here on the flats in Isaan at the moment. Let alone the highest point in Thailand. Definitely need to make the trip up there eventually, looks great
Hey Ricky, hope all is well. It's been really chilly up here in the mornings and nice temps in the afternoon. I thought Isaan would have been warmer, but I guess not. I'm hoping to head to Isaan soon. Take it easy buddy.
I've been trying to do the loop for four years! The last time I was in Thailand i had planned to do the loop but a nasty little thing called omicron arrived in Europe and I had to leave early in order to get a negative test before flying back. I t got cancelled!
The good news is that I fly back to Thailand on the 2nd of December and will be heading to Chiang Mai to rent a bike. I am also going to do the loop clockwise. I will be following this vlog avidly, thanks for bringing us along.
It took me many years also. I'm happy to be ticking this one off now. It's been very rewarding so far. Have a good trip buddy 👍

Great video again mate. You had some great weather on that day although you mentioned it was hazy. When I was there you could not see a thing we were literally in the clouds. Wacharitan waterfall is beautiful but it seems that you missed the other waterfall (Sirithan) which is bigger. Pity! Great job Wayne.

Coconut oil works wonders for keeping the mosquitos and flies away without smelling bad and it wont eat into your gear like DEET sprays and keeps you soft too its cheap and readily available 711 has it in case your still on the loop dealing with bugs.

I went to doi inthanon when my tour did something else! Shit was great :) amazing views and I was able to go to Phra Mahathat Naphamethanidon on a super clear day!
At the temple near the bridge They had a small dirt path that lead to down to the jungle. I went there was a small stream but it was heavily dense. I had bought a bamboo bong earlier the days before and took it with me and hit it in the forest 😂 shit was relaxing.
I ended up going back up and took another hit of the bamboo bong near the purple wall carved murals.

I'll have to look back at the Ghost 🤣 I can't remember. I think I could live in Mae Hong Son, but damn it gets hot.

Brits don't moan do they, Wayne. Especially about the chilli weather. Kings pagoda on the left, Queens on the right side if i remember correctly. Sadly, Doi Inthanon is a tourist trap. The entrance fee at the start of the mountain should cover the entrance to the Pagodas. But of course they hit you up twice, hence i never go back. The best of Mae Hong Son is yet to come mate.
