      Yea , when I bought a rat cage from the pet shop ( it's still pretty big , like twice the minimum) I thought it was okay at first. I advertises itself for 4 rats , which is ridiculous, since my two boys are now full grown and I realise that they'd be better in a larger cage , which is why I'm here looking for a good one :D

      The feisty ferret cage is a good cage for $125 you can get it from Amazon the bar spacing is 7/8 of a inch so it's not 1 inch but I would recommend to have males in there but some females can escape but some people say they can't

      Yes, the All Living Things Rat Starter Kit is great, but the cage can only be for for two rats. The food isn't good, the bedding isn't enough, the flying saucer literally takes up half the cage on the bottom, and so yeah. I really like the cage, but the plastic may be a chewing problem . If you have any questions more about it, you can ask me! Thank You! Bye

      Now, a REALLY good cage (which I am upgrading to later on) that is also expensive (-_-) $250! Is the All Living Things multi-level small animal cage. petsmart is 260 dollars, maybe more. It doesn't come with anything but is great and can fit, like, up to fifteen rats.

      daddy.dr_phil yehe all 5 of my girls are in a double critter nation, I have done a lot of research, both my rats were in separate bin cages bin cages because you are supposed to have your rats in a nursery (a bin cage) because it keeps the baby’s warm. And they were separated because you can’t have a rat with another rats baby’s because they could hurt them.

    Elizabeth T - Most defiantly two, seeing as you don't know this, you must always get two or more rats, never one. Rats need companionship of their own kind at all times, with out it they can get very lonely easy, depressed, stressed, can't do rat things together like grooming, sleeping together in hideouts, eating together, play wrestling etc, that you as a human won't be able to offer them. Its basically vital for them. So always 2 or more never one. I have a video on rat companionship, which explains a lot more, so if you would like to find out more about the importance of rat companionship, then feel free to watch it, you may learn a lot you didn't know before about it :)

      If you have loads of time and you have enough time to play with your rat for several hours a day, than one is enough, but if you don't have that much time and can't give your rat all the attention and companionship it needs then better get a second rat.

    • @Amy-vo8fx

    Ferplast Furret Xl user here. It has a lot of place, I could literaly climb into it through the door and sit in it. The bar spacing is kinda big, but an adult rat can't fit through. While it's quite expensive, try to get one used, I got mine for about 1/5th of the original price and it was in fairly good condition (a few rust spots and a fe bars slightly bent due to equipment). An added bonus is that you can build two XLs into a tower with ease if you want to upgrade and if you're lucky you can get a used XL for $50

      You don't have to be rich to buy one of these cages. But you do have to have enough money for at least a suitable sized cage as they are going to be spending most of their lives in it. If you can't afford a suitable cage then you should not be having rats. Don't get a pet if you can't provide their needs

    I know this is an old video but would the single level critter nation be suitable for 2 rats? If just doesn't have the top level. I believe it is 36x24x36 inches. Is that suitable for 2 rats? Or would you be better off just buying the top level too even though it is double the price?

    • @peachypetparadise27
      @peachypetparadise27  8 років тому +1

      +Minty Mischief You're welcome. Not at all, I am here to help after all. Both are brilliant cages, the only thing I would say is the Ferret Nation would require meshing as the bar spacing is over half an inch so rats could squeeze through them no problem. Whereas the Critter Nation bar spacing is not too big so you wouldn't need to mesh the bars. So to save you the hassle of meshing the bars, the Critter Nation would be a better option. But of course if you don't mind spending some time meshing the bars then it really doesn't matter which you pick. Both are perfect for rats at the end of the day :)

    Here's a really weird question, I want to make a custom doll house for my rat like there will be the usual cage front on it, but the rest of it will be doll house with windows and i feel like it would provide a lot of stimulation but I don't know if it would make it cramped. I dont mean a dollhouse you usually give to your child like it would be 3 or 4 stories for 2 rats. I don't know how good they are with peeing and pooping anywhere but on the ground but I see people make houses for their hamsters and rats but ive never seen one be the cage itself. opinions?

    • @peachypetparadise27

      No they are not suitable for any rat, they don't provide enough ventilation for them, I suggest you go check out my bad rat cages video as I explain about the cages you will want to avoid. Also I would like to add, I noticed you said thinking about getting one. Please don't get one, you must always get 2 or more. Its vital rats are in companions. They are very social and need companionship of their own kind at all times with out them they can get really lonely and stressed and depressed too so make sure you get two or more, never 1 :)

    Just for future reference, I have the feisty ferret cage for my rats and the bar spacing is actually perfect, none of my rats, even the smaller ones, have ever been able to escape. The only time you might run into that problem is if you have a baby rat, like as in a 5 week old rat. Aside from that all our rats ranging from 2 years to 4 months haven't had a problem. That's not to say I necessarily recommend it though. In regards to the cage itself, the metal bends easily, the middle floor is completely wire, and it is almost the same price as the Prevue Pet Products 484 Deluxe Critter Cage that wasn't in this video. It is only $160 but the same size as the Double Ferret Nation for almost 100 dollars less. It's actually the cage we are saving up for now!

    I would like to purchase the Freddy 2 Max cage, however I noticed it had a plastic edging and bottom. With the rats be able to chew through that plastic? If so, what can I do to prevent/fix that problem? Thank you so much for all the help you've given me. :)

    • @peachypetparadise27
      @peachypetparadise27  9 років тому

      MS G No, most rats won't chew out of the cage base and so long as you have a thick layer of bedding, they won't be so distracted by the plastic base. Most custom rat cages have the plastic bases and no one has had any problems with rats chewing out of the base, so I wouldn't worry about that. I would buy the Freddy 2 Max Cage :)

    • @peachypetparadise27
      @peachypetparadise27  9 років тому

      +HamsterLover1305 You can, its obviously plenty big enough :) I have actually seen a pet youtuber house their hamster in this cage, and it seemed very happy living in it and the cage gave it plenty of space for toys and for the hamster itself. But I do suggest meshing all over the bars as the are a little too big spacing for hamsters. It is quite high yes, but this can be resolved if you hang lots of toys so if the hamster were to fall they wouldn't fall very far down and the toys would catch them. Rat cages are not the best option, but if thats the only option you can go for then thats fine :)

      Sorry that this is late but I got the critter nation double cage and I have my month old ratties living in it and the bar space is nice and the space is really nice the only problem is putting it together is pretty difficult. I put mine together alone in about 5 hours, it says you dont need tools but you will most likely need a rubber mallet as sometimes it doesn't align right sometimes but other than that it's a very nice cage

    Hello, I've been looking in to the Liberta Explorer Cage and think it'd be perfect however some reviews brought up rusting issues with the rats' urine.
    As you've had experience using this cage did you experience any rust? Would keeping on top of cleaning be enough to keep it at bay or did you have to modify it in some way?

    • @peachypetparadise27
      @peachypetparadise27  7 років тому +1

    • @peachypetparadise27
      @peachypetparadise27  7 років тому

      Hey, sorry to say but your cage the Lazy Bones 3 Storey is a bit small. I know it may seem huge because of the good height but the ground space is actually very small, not enough room for your rats to run around and that is another important factor for rats. A cage must be at least 80cm in length and your cage only measures 65cm making it under the minimum. So honestly, I would try and upgrade to a bigger cage :) But if you come across any wire problems in future, try clipping down fleece with binder clips ontop of the wire to cover them. Or buy some chloroplast plastic, cut to fit and that should cancel out the wire floor :)

    Would it be okay if I did a diy cage? I wanted to do an armoire but put mesh on the doors, and add levels on the inside! It should turn out to be huge, as I am planning on adding 2 furry rat friends to my animal family!

    • @peachypetparadise27
      @peachypetparadise27  8 років тому

      +Lit3rallyLilly So long as the DIY cage is made of mesh, is 80 x 50 x 60 and you can provide a plastic base big enough then it should be fine. But you will find it much easier buying a large cage instead because providing ventilation everywhere is vital. :)
