    • @SiMeGamer
      @SiMeGamer 5 місяців тому +7

I disagree. To be a joke all you.need is intent of humor. Examples of bad jokes:
      - pointing at someone and saying "haha, look, he is overweight"
You can say it's not funny and it is mean, but if being fat is something that one finds humourous, it works. Same as laughing at someone getting hurt from slipping on a banana peel. I personally never found that funny even as a kid but many people do. That's a joke you see a lot in animation. You can interpret it however you want but it being a joke depends on the intent - did you want people to find it humourous.
Here's a similar joke now that evolved from the first joke:
      - pointing at someone and saying "haha, look, he is fit" or "haha, look, he is wearing a shirt"
Both of these exist as a subversion of the first joke I mentioned. Instead of laughing at something negative, you spin it (absurdise) to be about something positive or neutral. Is that a good joke? Probably not. Most people won't get it. That's why that type of stupid joke usually only works with a close group of friends because you are familiar with one another and trust make it fundamentally appear less mean spirited.
Humour is very complex. I can say "spoon" to the right person in the right relationship and the right context and they would die of laughter. I can hear her sentence as being an attempt at humour. It is very, very poor and the platform of Twitter/X only makes it worse because it is fairly mean spirited in general (plus she linked to the original which opens the floodgates). It was definitely careless but we can't rule out that it was an extremely poor attempt at a joke. I don't find it funny in the slightest but I get it. It's the same as the other joke I provided where she is saying in a roundabout way "haha, look, his parents are mixed race". Is that funny? Not to me and not almost anybody. But to the right people this can definitely be joke just like pointing at a fat guy (a negative association with mixed parents) or the fit guy (a positive interpretation of mixed parents) or the guy wearing a shirt (a neutral interpretation of mixed parents). This is all easily possible. I think it's important to add like a /j or something because this is social media and could so easily be seen as serious passive aggressive commentary but I can easily give the benefit of the doubt that it is a joke.
Not every joke has a setup and a punchline. Not every joke is clever. Not every joke is funny. But a joke is classified as a joke the moment there is intent. You can say something not meant as a joke and people will interpret it as a joke and to them it will be a joke and when they tell it will be. But the original won't be because it was never meant to be. Intent matters. The only problem with it is that it is not provable. You can try and make it more obvious (like adding /j) or making it in a more conventional joke format (with a setup and punchline) but even then some people wouldn't find it funny nor would some even see it as a joke. There is no guarantee to these things.
This also applies to her apology video. Is she being sincere? I have no clue and I don't care. She is some random and that library guy is some random. If she wants to apologize she should do it to him in private, maybe even in person. I hate public apologies but at least it was addressed mostly to him, which is rare because most apology videos are to the fans when they are not the people that suffered - they are just observers. You have done anything wrong to them. This is not like a politician that promised one thing and did another (which does mandate an apology to his voters because he directly affected them).
Jokes can be anything. I can say that this entire reply of mine is a joke where I pretend to be a Reddit user and some would find it funny and most wouldn't (I assume). But it's neither here nor there. Did she make a joke? It's very possible. Was it done in extremely poor taste? Absolutely. Was it done in a context that is awful (social media)? Absolutely. I think what she did was wrong but I can't deny that it was an attempt at humour. To me it can be easily read as just a terrible joke.
      "Haha, Asmongold is bald"
"Haha, look at his dirty room"
Is any of this funny? According to this channel's videos' comments - a resounding yes. Is it not mean spirited towards bald or balding people? Who gives a fk, right? It's not that complicated people. I'm not bald and I don't find these jokes funny despite watching almost all the clips on this channel. Does that now make it not a joke? There is no punchline. It's just pointing and something and asking you to laugh. It does help when it is made extreme with video editing to make him completely bald (absurdism), but that's all up for interpretation. Plenty could find it in poor taste or offensive. I just don't find it funny and I couldn't give less of a fk if this joke keeps on trucking for the next 20 years. To me this is like laughing at a guy wearing a shirt. Being bald is very neutral to me and nothing about this is funny. I don't have a deep parasocial connection to make it funny as it might've if I were with friends irl.
      tl;dr
It could easily be a joke. It's in poor taste and very carelessly presented. But can still be a joke. It's all about intent.

@@solitudesf8111there are no rules for how a joke needs to look. And if there are then please present them.
I only know that humour has 1 rule:
      - either be absurd, be negative or be both
For example, you can't make something positive funny unless you spin it in an absurd manner.
"You're a dumbass" can be funny.
"You're smart" cannot unless it is used sarcastically which then changes it into a negative or used in an absurd context.
A good reminder of this is the icon of the two masks (I'm not sure if that's a Greek thing or not):
The laughing mask and the crying mask.
      Drama and absurdity.
Humour is a little hard to talk about because philosophically it is in the realm of aesthetics and not epistemology or ethics. Which is harder to agree on because it requires agreeding on all the previous branches combined. Anyway, I digress.
Please explain the rules of how a joke should look like.
I've never seen a proper formula because jokes can be seen in any formulation. From a single word that works for you and your friends, to a carefully constructed story with a brilliant subversion (setup and punchline) made by comedians. Puns are a type of joke and it doesn't fall under either of these. I'll be very honest, I don't think you can provide rules for jokes because from just these 3 examples, there is no throughline in construction or presentation - unless of course you're going to try and provide all the joke types which doesn't prove anything because there might be a new joke type we either never classified or haven't found.

Nah, she only did it because her business was hurt, apologizing does nothing. If you truly are sorry you will actually do something to help and make amends. Actions over words

We can respect it but others won't either because it attacks their core values or that they don't care at all. The hazard of social media is that it goes both ways and I'm sure that 'woman' won't have any peace anytime soon.

Maybe it's just me, but her apology sounds disingenuous.

Stuff like this is why i hate social media sometimes. It brings out the stupidity in people and when stupid creates a following, those same people will unleash their army to create more harm. What world we live in.

Look, she wasn't trying to be racist, she was just pointing out how she thinks negatively of him because of the color of his skin.
