Holy. Hell... The range. The vocal control. The power. The softness. The complete understanding of the lyrics. She's got it all! Thanks for posting this...
You know someone's a good vocalist when the audience sits in silence and doesn't sing along (especially to such a popular song) just so they can hear and feel every note. Rare, incredible, and underrated talent.
you dont have to sing good to get that. you have to share emotion. that job is called interpreter. she is *also* an amazing singer but that has nothing to do with how good she share those moments. she is amazing
This woman is criminally UNDER RATED. Her clarity and vocal ability along with her song writing skills should really be applauded and FAR MORE appreciated. I think she’s just fantastic!!!!
This! I have zero hesitation in saying she is probably the best singer of the past 10-15yrs. Versatile, agile, unreal range and control. She makes it look effortless too!
+cnealz Agree, she's pretty underrated. I think it's because she doesn't really fit into a category. But, she has a great voice, upbeat and her live performances match her album voice.
I was debating if she’s playing a ukulele, so I looked it up!! Answer is from Google. (Yeah, I’m weird like that!!) What is bigger than a ukulele but smaller than a guitar? A baritone ukulele is larger than a tenor ukulele and is tuned a fifth lower. ... This gives it a sound that is perfect for musicians who want a sound a little higher pitched than a guitar but not quite as high pitched as a smaller ukulele.

And keep in mind she's singing this live with only a ukulele for accompaniment which is SO risky--nowhere to hide if she hits a bad note. But she doesn't. :)

***** lol what...? i don't understand how sara's version is even remotely similar to sia's version. in fact, i think sara's is much more unique and melodious. i hear depth her voice, unlike sia's, who i think just plays the song in a monotonous way.
Bella Barela Because she loves to do covers--it's her way of reaching out to and supporting/showing respect for her fellow artists. Why couldn't you figure that out on your own??? You're the one who looks silly...
To the videographer, the reason this video has 2.3 million hits in such a short time is because it's fucking awesome. Everyone that sees it shows it to a few of their friends....because it's fucking awesome. The performance is so good it easily transcends the shitty cell phone camera it was captured on, THAT's how you get 2.3 million hits. I am amazed at how many negative comments are below, all this horseshit about how the key is lowered etc...whatever. Sia's original is in C#. When Sia herself does it live she lowers it a whole step to B. Sara does it in C, right in between Sia's two keys. Singers are worse than guitar players, everyone thinks they can do it better....and yes, the chords she's playing are correct.
8throwcenter I think that's pretty obvious to anyone who's seen all the shitty cell phone camera videos on UA-cam. Thanks for not recording this with a shitty cell phone camera. It's a really nice quality video, especially when you consider it was taken from the audience.
+Heather L. You may be right, but what made you believe 501 chorusecho is a man? But what I picked up on is that their name is otherwise known as the model number for a tape echo and delay recorder. So whom ever they are they probably work or play in the music industry. People often miss the real detail of people who want to leave a post. So quick to judge, but it wasn't a backhanded compliment at all. It was just an enthusiastic comment. The compliment was telling the videographer they were fucking awesome, but that seemed to be lost on everyone.
This cover showed me how sad the lyrics for this song really is, a girl that drinks too much and everyone thinks she is having fun because she dancing, taking shots and swinging from chandeliers but she is really holding on for her life and needs help to stop. She is using alcohol to push down her pain.
Yep. That's exactly what it's about. And it's quite sad. I saw a really great interview with Sia where she talked very bluntly about how bad that was for her and it is part of why she doesn't want to tour anymore.
Sia wrote this song about her abuse of alcohol and the low point of her life where she couldn't deal with her problems anymore very powerful song luv Sia
The mark of a true musician: record quality sound and performance without mixers, light show or backup dancers required to make it "good". Just a girl, her guitar and a fabulous voice.
+Aimee Gem Veloso It is a baritone ukelele. My father played it, and as a girl I first learned to play guitar on it. The strings are tuned to the same pitches as the guitar's D G B E. (Minus the low E & A).
She warns people that she may be no good.. warning the song is very hard to sing. And she then sings like an angel. This is beautiful to watch. Just perfect. This is real talent.
I have heard Sia sing this live and while she does it very well, Sara absolutely SLAYS it. This girl is better live than she is in a studio and "that" is VERY hard to pull off.
The question is: How can she sing so perfectly? No cracks in her voice while singing those high notes. This is absolutely the best cover of sia's Song!
mysticsmb She covers Dock of the Bay phenomenally too. She just has a great range and tone in her voice. I hope their will be a DVD of this concert tour showcasing this and the great a capella song with those other fabulous girls she sings with too. Love Cara, Christina and my fav...MISTY!
I was lucky enough to see this live. Amazing singer, lovely talented lady. Hope to see her live again. Such an amazing performer and so very talented ❤️
I'm mortified to admit that I just now discovered Sara. She is without a doubt a GIFTED singer. To sing this song at this level with nothing but a mic and guitar is seriously amazing. I'm a new fan!!
Hello, all. I am the videographer for this video. I never ever anticipated 2million plus views and the spirited discussion it has generated. I go to lots of concerts and make lots of videos and have not had this happen before. I attribute it to Sia's popularity and the song's popularity. I just wanted to add a few things. First, Sara is an amazing live performer and she sang this song in the middle of a set of about 18 songs. All just as good. Second, I recorded and included her chatting because she is very funny and I think her fans enjoy hearing her in between songs chat. Sorry for those who don't like that part. Third, Sara always includes covers in her shows and they are generally very different from the original, always her own take on them. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is one I recommend. Never cared about the song before i heard her version. Sorry, Elton fans. Fourth, in live shows, she "covers" her own songs in different ways from the studio version, Come Round Soon comes to mind. Last, I am glad a lot of you have enjoyed this performance and video and for those who did not, it just shows we don't all like the same things. Again, I continue to be amazed at the interest this has generated. Good for Sara, and SIa, too. :)
8throwcenter You got all these views because this video (and another one from Sara's Chicago concert) was linked to on a couple of well-read music blogs and then spread via social media--because of just how amazing Sara's singing is. Everyone and their brother have tried to cover Chandelier and most have fallen flat, except for Sara. And while this song is indeed popular I think Sara's got just as much name recognition--if not more--in the US as Sia.
Okay don't judge me, but I had never heard of this woman until I happened upon her on UA-cam. I am beyond words in order to effectively describe how amazing she is! I cannot seem to get enough! Thank you, Ms. Bareilles!
@@yohannugraha2869 They're both great for different reasons, no need to play them off against each other. Oh, and I watched the 1989 tour recently - I've never watched a TS gig in full before - I was astounded by just how good Taylor's vocals were, loads of power definitely an example of someone growing into their role and improving with age. It's also worth remembering that Sara is 10 years TS's senior so has a decade of experience on her.
Wtf, I just discovered her today May 02, 2020. How is this even possible that she's not as well known as she should be ffs. The voice is heaven, what a freakin talent. awesome.
I HAVE HEARD THE COVER OF CHANDELIER BY MANY ARTISTS. SARA MAKES IT HER OWN. YES, YOU ALL HAVE HEARD THIS BEFORE, BUT SHE REALLY BRINGS THE POWER WITHIN HER VOICE, AND ILLUSTRATES HOW WELL SHE HAS PERFECTED HER CRAFT IN THIS AMAZING PERFORMANCE! I LOVE THIS COVER! I WOULD HAVE GONE TO HER CONCERT IN CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA AS RICHMOND IS NOT THAT FAR AWAY! SO CLOSE, BUT SO FAR AWAY IT SEEMS IN LIFE. YOU ARE AMAZING, SARA. YOU KEEP GETTING BETTER AND BETTER. THE SKY IS THE LIMIT! BLESSINGS, BEV FROM RICHMOND~~
after watching this i can really jsay that SIA's voice is really unique ! Sara did a really great job singing this song, but SIA's range of voice is one of a kind. totally the best. so far the best cover ive seen
No idea who this woman is, never heard of her until now. But... she is fantastic. This is how the song should have been done, in my opinion. Good job. Great voice.
What? do you even listen to the radio or tv? She´s really famous! specially songs like love song, king of anything or brave (a song which katy perry copied when she did roar!)
Sia singing this live is amazing - raw, raw, gut wrenching emotion - as you'd expect from the person who wrote the song. But this is equally amazing, just in a different way, and by far the best cover of Chandelier that I have ever heard. Not as raw, but regardless a fantastic combination of technically amazing voice with, brilliant interpretation/emotion that is totally true to the words/intent of the original. Thank you, Sara.
+mysticsmb It seems to be a lot harder to do it raw, from a vocal perspective. I find myself screeching and cracking the few times I've tried. :/ Sia's vocals are described as wild and insane frequently. So, I'm just guessing that it takes through-the-roof vocal talent or maybe a certain kind voice. Who knows?
I think it's nice because when Sia sings it, it's imperfectly beautiful but Sara can actually hit those crazy notes and that's what is equally beautiful
Not sure why there always has to be a debate on which is better. Things can be different and both good in their own right. Also, props to Sara who is always giving credit to other songwriters and paying them the highest compliment by covering their songs, songs that she clearly loves. Is it as raw as Sia does it? No. Is it great? In my humble opinion, yes.
The original of this song will always be a favorite of mine but HOLY SHIT Sara kilt this. This cover gave me goosebumps it's that good. She's so underrated but my god I can't stop listening to this. Haters take a walk cause clearly you don't know a perfect voice
I'm so confused. I'm reading so many comments about "haters" and negative feedback on here but I've seen literally nothing but glowing comments as I scrolled for 3 minutes. BEAUTIFUL cover. Man!
Her originals are out of this world, and she has been a fave female vocalist of mine for awhile. But when Sara covers another artist (Otis Redding, Beyonce, etc and now this) she just adds something and it is always pure magic!
Dear mom: I was actually at this very show in Charlottesville back in July of 2014, with Mike, a day before we set out for California in my little purple Honda Fit. I had just finished selling every last piece of furniture I owned and I was ready to ride off into the sunset with the man of my dreams. I had always loved Sara Bareilles and I was so excited to come to this show with Mike and celebrate my beloved Charlottesville one last time. What I remember from this show, however, was leaving early because he was "bored." I should have known then, but I was too punch drunk in love. When I listen to the lyrics now, they are so prescient. What a pivotal time in my life...
Sara Barellies has the voice of an angel but 99% of why I love this has to be that I finally know the lyrics of this song. If Sia would just enunciate I would be a much bigger fan because she clearly writes well.
Why all the hate? Yes it doesn't sound like Sias' version but it's not meant to. It's a cover. Her own artistic portrayal of the song. I thought she sung beautifully! Stop comparing the versions and see it for what is - an amazing performance (:
Can you believe that l came to love this song a couple of weeks ago after watching sara's cover??? Sara is the best!!!! And yes, Sia Rocks too :) #Chandelier
Incredibly relatable! That's our girl, Sara! Thank God, she chose to share her intimate & poignant feelings and thoughts with us, set to equally moving music that she writes and performs. Ahh...no words beyond what I've written. I'm in LOVE,and incredibly GRATEFUL, plain & simple. Lastly, THANK YOU, Sara, plain & simply said.
No instruments that guide her, no electronics for vocal support; pure acoustic, and a ridiculously hard song.
Fuck me that was impressive.
V K I saw her do this live. Shit was amazing.

***** lol what...? i don't understand how sara's version is even remotely similar to sia's version. in fact, i think sara's is much more unique and melodious. i hear depth her voice, unlike sia's, who i think just plays the song in a monotonous way.
Agreed
Why is she even doing a cover???? Sara is already established so it makes this look silly. Come on a;ready. I am disappointed in Sara
Bella Barela Because she loves to do covers--it's her way of reaching out to and supporting/showing respect for her fellow artists. Why couldn't you figure that out on your own??? You're the one who looks silly...
This is the best thing I've ever heard.... and I've once heard, "no sir, you don't have to pay extra for guac."
You're my new favorite person of the week for that guac comment lololol
This gave me the chills on every long note!...She sings in cursive and its beautiful!
the ”cursive” thing you’re talking about is vibrato
this has been spoken by many people to be one of the hardest songs to sing and Sara sang it like it was a piece of cake amazing
It wasn't a shitty cell phone camera.
8throwcenter I think that's pretty obvious to anyone who's seen all the shitty cell phone camera videos on UA-cam. Thanks for not recording this with a shitty cell phone camera. It's a really nice quality video, especially when you consider it was taken from the audience.
Heather L. Apparently it's pretty obvious to everyone except 501chorusecho.
Augustus 9901 I guess his comment was meant to be a compliment (sorta backhanded though.)
I couldn't have said it better. Well done.
Yep. That's exactly what it's about. And it's quite sad. I saw a really great interview with Sia where she talked very bluntly about how bad that was for her and it is part of why she doesn't want to tour anymore.
Sia wrote this song about her abuse of alcohol and the low point of her life where she couldn't deal with her problems anymore very powerful song luv Sia
e.o forreal I thought she was just partying like theres no tomorrow
TheAray6 wonderfully said!
Her voice is so freaking powerful!
"What is wrong with me? I am not even drunk. I'm just weird." - Sarah
Me: Same. Same.
The mark of a true musician: record quality sound and performance without mixers, light show or backup dancers required to make it "good". Just a girl, her guitar and a fabulous voice.
And bed sheets! ^_^
+Tyler Ellis And bed sheets. xD
+Sarah Pullen i thought it was a ukulele, but still great :3
+Aimee Gem Veloso It is a baritone ukelele. My father played it, and as a girl I first learned to play guitar on it. The strings are tuned to the same pitches as the guitar's D G B E. (Minus the low E & A).
+Aimee Gem Veloso a ukelele is still a guitar
She warns people that she may be no good.. warning the song is very hard to sing. And she then sings like an angel. This is beautiful to watch. Just perfect. This is real talent.
I have heard Sia sing this live and while she does it very well, Sara absolutely SLAYS it. This girl is better live than she is in a studio and "that" is VERY hard to pull off.
She's one of the best singers out there and this song is still hard for her, shows what a freaking MONSTER of a song Chandelier is to perform.
Her Chandelier performance here is definitely my favorite so far from her all her version thus far! Stellar!!!
except for sia!
FINALLY someone who can sing this WITHOUT auto-tune!
This chick can sing the fckn phone book and we will all still end up crying phenomenal voice!!!
Doctor: you have 5 minutes and 42 seconds to live
Me:
best comment tho I'd use mine for her Gravity.
@@R33AD
I agree and She Use to be Mine....
Both describe my relationship with my husband of 14 years.
Cry almost every time.
The question is: How can she sing so perfectly? No cracks in her voice while singing those high notes. This is absolutely the best cover of sia's Song!
Check out the one by Pvris its amazing
Check Darren Espanto's cover of this song. You're welcome.
+Damian Ariel I love when sia does the cracks in her voice it gives the song more emotion.
+Vesting Yes -- and without editing. I fucking hate edited acoustic covers.
Damian Ariel then it just sounds like tones without personality
Wow.. Probably the best voice i've ever heard in my life
You should also listen to her cover of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road--stunning! (even Elton John said so!)
mysticsmb She covers Dock of the Bay phenomenally too. She just has a great range and tone in her voice. I hope their will be a DVD of this concert tour showcasing this and the great a capella song with those other fabulous girls she sings with too. Love Cara, Christina and my fav...MISTY!
Amazing vocal, no studio or computer corrections, just a girl and her instrument. Thank you.
I was lucky enough to see this live. Amazing singer, lovely talented lady. Hope to see her live again. Such an amazing performer and so very talented ❤️
That girl could make me cry singing the ABC song.
Every time I hear this woman sing, I am covered in goosebumps for the duration of the song
Bela - or Three Blind Mice!!
Well said lol
Type into UA-cam sara bareilles sesame street.
link?
How is this live??? Nobody's voice should be this perfect. I've listened to this like fifty times.
I'm mortified to admit that I just now discovered Sara. She is without a doubt a GIFTED singer. To sing this song at this level with nothing but a mic and guitar is seriously amazing. I'm a new fan!!
Singing that song live with just a ukulele --unreal. Not many artists could pull that off. Bravo.
She has such great stage presence, it's like she can entertain the audience like a comedian and make them laugh then bust out a song after
Welshy 👍
Im saving my money to see her at the Fox theater here in Atlanta. She blows me away! Laughing and crying, I have chills.
Yeah I always loved her voice since I'm not going to write you a love song!
Sums Sara up to a T
and the talent of sara too
The best cover of this song great job !
Thanks man - I'm a huge fan of Sara and the song, so it's such a great thing to have such a HQ version!
do you make money off this video?
Her runs are amazing!! Such talent!!! Beautiful voice!!
Wow she hits those high notes super solidly
Sara can sing whatever the hell she wants and absolutely nail it. She's basically Meryl Streep with a piano (or ukulele, in this case).
María Cristina Quayat Mel Baritone Ukulele?
EXACTLY
Yet, she's so Fleabag.
You NAILED it!!!!
She puts me in the mind of Chris Cornell in that way, whatever she sings it is her version of it and she flat OWNS whatever it is she sings...
Her head voice is so pure and beautiful. It sounds like a bell, so crystal clear. I prefer hers now over the original. Her voice is just perfect.
Her head *and* chest voice are crystal clear. Those beautiful belted notes in the chorus are from her chest.
Okay don't judge me, but I had never heard of this woman until I happened upon her on UA-cam. I am beyond words in order to effectively describe how amazing she is! I cannot seem to get enough! Thank you, Ms. Bareilles!
Not many mortals can do Sia's music justice. Sara just nailed. Goosebump standard.
First Sia cover that made me smile. I'm baised because I'm in love with sia's strong vocals but she killed this
Sia tweeted Sara's Chicago performance, so I think she's got the official seal of approval!
she gave me chills
Oh my gosh, me too!
Yeah x.x
me toooooo
To cover that song live with no backing track and just a uke is beyond ballsy…loved it.
both sara and sia versions are jaw dropping. She's just honestly sing from the heart that's why its so perfect.
This girl should have been filling arenas by now, she's so much better than any other famous artist I know for sure.
She is now! Or was before the pandemic. And will again, I'm sure
She's been on Broadway for awhile and now on TV. She also has a bunch of albums out.
Better than Taylor swift that’s for sure
It’s always the brightest stars who shine at a different frequency ⭐️
@@yohannugraha2869 They're both great for different reasons, no need to play them off against each other. Oh, and I watched the 1989 tour recently - I've never watched a TS gig in full before - I was astounded by just how good Taylor's vocals were, loads of power definitely an example of someone growing into their role and improving with age. It's also worth remembering that Sara is 10 years TS's senior so has a decade of experience on her.
You have extremely steady camera work!
Thanks :). I have had lots of practice.
she hits those high notes and I literally break down sobbing because my brain doesn't know how to process that much beauty
I would literally do so much to see her perform live one day...
I can hear the lyrics here!! And high notes were made for Sara!!
HOLY MOTHER OF GOD I DIDN'T THINK IT WAS POSSIBLE TO MAKE THAT CHORUS SOUND MORE PERFECT THAN IT SOUNDED.... WHOAAA
I've never heard Sara's live vocals and I am.....HOLY STRAWBERRIES BATMAN! Thanks so very much for posting this.
Wtf, I just discovered her today May 02, 2020. How is this even possible that she's not as well known as she should be ffs. The voice is heaven, what a freakin talent. awesome.
Liberal Snowflakes I discovered her 7 years ago and had that exact same feeling.
Your comment is pure gold, you’re so right.
Too bad there isn't a studio version!
Thanks for recording this
You are welcome. It was a pretty amazing performance.
Mucho respect. Sia is no joke vocally! Nicely done Sara!! ✌
She needs more recognition
after watching this i can really jsay that SIA's voice is really unique ! Sara did a really great job singing this song, but SIA's range of voice is one of a kind. totally the best. so far the best cover ive seen
Lulu-sweetie Angel *In the studio* Sia's range is one of a kind. This is live.
mysticsmb Sia's voice not only in the studio is amazing too. one of a kind.
&& Sara is ofc. amazing tooo :D I love her.
Yet to see sia sing it good live.. She can't hit the notes half as good as she does is the "studio"
sia can.
The audio quality is so good on this. Thank you.
This is jaw dropping.
No idea who this woman is, never heard of her until now. But... she is fantastic. This is how the song should have been done, in my opinion. Good job. Great voice.
Check out her albums...she has an amazing live one where she just kills it, especially her song called Gravity.
I can vouch for that!^^
What? do you even listen to the radio or tv? She´s really famous! specially songs like love song, king of anything or brave (a song which katy perry copied when she did roar!)
Pretty sure you've heard of her before. Not unless you're in grade school. :P
Perhaps I have, and I just didn't know her name. I haven't been in grade school for decades (maybe I'm just too old?) :)
+Lee Fong Well said! And I agree--not as raw. But instead it feels more solitary, which makes it beautifully plaintive.
+mysticsmb It seems to be a lot harder to do it raw, from a vocal perspective. I find myself screeching and cracking the few times I've tried. :/
Sia's vocals are described as wild and insane frequently.
So, I'm just guessing that it takes through-the-roof vocal talent or maybe a certain kind voice. Who knows?
I think it's nice because when Sia sings it, it's imperfectly beautiful but Sara can actually hit those crazy notes and that's what is equally beautiful
Yeah, but I think that this song was designed to make the singer's vocals strain.
Loic Nottet does a good cover as well
She‘s.........I don’t have the word.. I’m speechless 😶 ♥️🥺😭
5 years later and this is still a spectacular cover and I totally agree she is incredible
I haven't stopped listening to this either!!!
Anyone who hasn't seen her live, please make sure you do, it was utterly amazing!
Everything Sara does is perfect. :)
Can't describe how much I love this woman.
Holy fuck! 02:40 that note, is she human?
kellym587 No One Said Anything About Opera, Bye
kellym587 nobody cares. if you couldn't do it then shhh.
She is so beyond talented. Pitch perfect every single freaking time.
Got UA-camd onto this, but she is such a fabulous singer......so good.
Why all the hate? Yes it doesn't sound like Sias' version but it's not meant to. It's a cover. Her own artistic portrayal of the song. I thought she sung beautifully! Stop comparing the versions and see it for what is - an amazing performance (:
She lowered the guy, and slowed the tempo, but overall her powerful voice still shined.
its acoutic. what do you expect
People have different ranges. It's completely normal.
I agree.. Sara is amazing and underrated!
Those high notes, wow
My ears are blessed after this
🎁❤️
Can you believe that l came to love this song a couple of weeks ago after watching sara's cover??? Sara is the best!!!! And yes, Sia Rocks too :) #Chandelier
I need a freaking studio version because this was glorious.
This will always be one of my favorite performances by this artist. She goes for it and makes it her own.
