More like the Empire and Kislev sacrifice everything to keep darkness at bay while the Dwarfs get besieged in their mountain for 150 years by mushroom addicts.

This has to be in your top ten disaster battles, it's absolutely insane you won this. I was thinking 'he's almost got a handle on this' when the mass swarm of hawks came in at 26:15 b-lining directly for the dwarfs and made it look completely impossible again.

I'm the guy who sent you the replay, I didn't develop magic for Katarin because I always improve the logistics branch first since I have a mage who is in charge of magic in the early game. I played this battle six times and all I got was being devastated, incredible battle and an honor to have collaborated on this tremendous video
I used to do that myself, but I don't anymore. The blue line buffs don't give nearly enough power in the early game where every advantage is needed to start snowballing. The blue line is only worth it once the lord has gotten their key magic, dueling, or red line abilities.
@volodymyrboitchouk I would say it depends on the Lord you are playing with and what the core of your army is. I develop magic with mage Lords, and blue line with any other Lords. I would make exceptions if the lore of magic is buffs base, if the core of the army is projectiles, or both.
@@leonzoful generally, I fond that it's best to develop magic for magic lords, combat skills for combat lords, and red line buffs with everyone else. The one exception is if I have a dedicated recruitment/governance lord that is gonna sit around inside my territory. That is the only case in which I go blue line first.
This is excepting getting route marchers of course, naturally that is the first thing I get on all lords.
@@volodymyrboitchouk I'd argue there's an exception for lords with early replenishment. For example, Cathay's Magistrates get Replenishment early in their blue tree. While none of the Dragon lords get the early replenishment skills making it hard to be aggressive with them with all the funny corruption Cathay has to deal with.
@@volodymyrboitchouk besides what I have said above, it also depends what race, type of army, and how many enemies I am going to face. For example, if I am playing with Kolek or Karl Franz, I rush blue line as it is more likely that I will face multiple enemy armies at once even though both factions have a different play style. Usually, I leave red line for last since they don't offer me an early tactical advantage in the same way that lightning strike or magic can do.

I had a campaign as Boris and I ended up needing to run from Archaon. In one of my armies I had 2 dwarf warriors and 2 quarrelers from Kraka Drak. I kept them in my army long After Kraka Drak was gone, but they remained as one of the strongest cores of my forces. They proved their worth time and again.

@@Coerciveutopian They were still in my army. The last dwarfs of Kraka Drak. I may have gone a little overboard trying to keep them alive at the cost of better units, but I had become attached to them.

39:40 we can see, flamethrower got more than 300 kills, and almost 39k damages. With non magical, non Armor piercing ranged attacks, against those units it's freakibg great ! Okay they had a fire weakness, but also had both missile and physical resistances on top of some armor, right ?
Anytime i can ally with dwarves in ANY campaign i am very happy, because a single unit of those scorching hot flaming ironbeards in any army can solve so many problems in drawn out battles.

the AI not pushing the attack may be because of the reinforcements and the AI usually waiting for them so it kinda.. breaks?

Tension, overcoming, relief, it was a mix of emotions from start to finish.

I love how high-priority the Wild Beasts were in this: the Gia Spiders being one of the 1st things targeted (and meeting death head-on anyways), the Great Hawks putting in the work they did, the Cave Bats taking far longer to down they one would think, given they dove right into (again) their death.
I am curious: seems like Gryhpon Wood's doing fine, though so is Kislev proper--wouldn't Drycha hypothetically be able to build her army back up faster than this player would?
Heart of winter is one on the most powerful spells in the game. Huge area of effect, decent damage as well as not damaging your own troops gives it so much versatility. Really gotta level that with priority.
This was def a legendary fight from the legend himself! One of the best I have seen, with so little to work with that was something else!

This desaster feels very common for ice court on legendary...its basicly your reinforced starting army vs drychas dryad doomstack she spawns with. Wonder what turn this was, because I dont think its necessarly passive. if you capture the settlements next to kislev in the first few turns you also get close to drycha, and she hates that.

Irondrakes plus Ice magic giving extra range makes them the most most valuable unit Kislev can get.
This battle will be remembered as A song of fire and ice.

That was one of the most entertaining disaster battles I’ve ever seen.
I mean It's pretty obvious that he didn't put any skillpoints into Katrin's magic because he's using the Ice Witch as the caster in the army.

i mean is it even worth it to put so much points just for a litlle reduction at the start of a campaign ? especially since u fight a lot at the beginning where red and yellow lines are relevant@@lucynamarzec8000
@@lucynamarzec8000 Upkeep shouldn't be that much of an issue because Kossars will carry you until you can make doomstacks. Also why the hell would you use a generic hero as caster when you have a legendary lord that can cast faster and cheaper.

@@joaop.madeira2808 It is more the "Quality over quantity, super heavily armored infantry in some of the best armor the lore has to offer, has some of the best and reliable handcrafted artifice in the world instead of mass produced arms and armor and often reinforces the forces of the regular humans against the forces of chaos and orcs" aspect.
magical attack on bad units is very powerfull in early game, i played a complet campaign with nearly only Wolfrats (magical weapons) as clan moulder

Most battles i feel like i can spit some things that could have been done better but here i would just can say anything, i dont see a human being able to do this much better with the amount of shit that was going on

Why not use Hawks of misha against the infantry? or the hailbomb spell?
What happens if the garrison gets wiped before the reinforcements arrive? Do they get wiped as well in this situation?
I had something just like this while playing Empire and defending Altdorf from fucking Mannfred, my 3 Irondrakes got 1200 kills between them and literally saved my campaign

I have huge respect for Irondrakes after playing a Belegar campaign. So many Skaven and Orks…
Talk about true definition of friendly fire. But yea as Kislev I take out Hellpit right away and give it to the dwarves before they get wiped by Valkia. In return i get a steadfast ally and access to irondrakes which I make use of quite a bit.
I love how the irondrakes seem to exclusivelyhit friendliws at times. Its weird bc I almost always never hit friendlies with them as the dwarfs ( maybe bc dwarfs have a smaller unit model)
Outposts was such a great addition to add some variety to armies. Ice Guards with hellfire rockets? yes plz ! i just wish they made it that if you lose an alliance unit, you have a temporary diplomatic penality

Good Disaster save, Legend! I play a lot of The Wargrove of Woe and have a good sense of how vicious they can be in the right hands. You performed well, considering what units you had. The Irondrakes were the highlight of the fight and the original player acted wisely, alliance recruiting them. I love the Thumbnail b(^>^ )

Flamethrower units are one of the most micro intensive infantry units in the few Total War games they show up in, but they can be pretty rewarding.
Well done, Legend. I wouldn't have even wasted my time. I recently played this faction and learned pretty quickly that you are better off avoiding conflict with Drycha. 😂

drycha's faction is very difficult to deal with, that is why I always take them out early.

How tf did you win that? So many places where it just looked hopeless.
It's quite the shock whenever I see the AI moving generals away from the army to get sniped by the player, such a horrible dynamic that should be played out with agents in the campaign map, every match becoming a "who can snipe the enemy general first" seems pretty archaic and I wish we went back to shogun with that.
Maybe Katarin simply spent most of the campaign so far dead.
