My wife and I help coach our son's mountain bike team. We were volunteering at the finish line at the last race. We happened to be there for the finish of the beginner 7th grade riders. The somewhat awkward but super sweet kid who finished dead last celebrated on the line like he was our man Victor Campenaerts! It was a sight to behold. May we always rejoice in our reality that hard!
Imagine if we did away with MTB races and turned all that effort into organizing road races. Oh what a glorious return to cycling we could recreate in the US.
@@roadcyclist1 If you did away with mtb races, kids would just ride mtb. You can't make kids race road if the kids and parents like mtb. I'm glad to hear a kid got to race in mtb and have a great time, regardless of their placing.
I loved this win by Pablo Castrillo. I had been rooting for him in an earlier stage when he got swept up by the peloton right before the finish. Today, it worked out for him and his team. Sometimes it is just good to see the underdog rider from an underdog team win. Today was one of those warm and fuzzy days.
Pablo is out of contract so he needed this, if motivation is needed then being out of contract at the Vuelta is about motivated as a rider will be. Ooh I did notice Robbie McEwan mentioning a Solerism type word so your Buddy is listening!! :D
Happy Kern Pharma got a win. They’ve been working hard all year. Also I lover Soler. Anytime I start getting a little sleepy I can count on Soler. Cycling wouldn’t be the same without him…
Regardless of Soler's actions sometimes, he rides at the front of the race and we're talking about him, as opposed to the guys in the pack you thought had retired years ago.
Pablo was bouncing up and down like Alaphillipe on his bike in the final km, and he looked back about ten times. You could tell he was cooked. Nice win!
The Vuelta is the best race of the year - less pressure, hard climbs, more spontaneous and surprises like yesterday can happen. Great race and thanks Chris.
In 2024 Marc Soler still displays tactical flaws at times, but what an entertaining rider he is. And he's been an important, dutiful domestique. He is fun to watch, and having an excellent year for his team.
Agreed. We love to watch Solerism. I started to worry this season because he had been so good all season long until here at Spain where the true Somerism has finally returned. Thankfully. . 🤔🤪🦋👊
Just a note of colour, Kern Pharma is the same team structure that used to be called Lizarte. Marc Solre and Richard Carapaz also came from Lizarte. The team has been producing pro cyclists for over two decades. It was a great win for them yesterday.
If I am not mistaken this is the first time this year a non-world tour team wins a stage at GTs. Between Pogi's 12 stages, TT specialists and sprinters these opportunities are hard to come by.
Really enjoying this Vuelta, and your post-stage analysis, The Vuelta has an overall award for most agressive should go to Soler, if his legs and head can sustain the effort involved. He's up there day after day, with other teams and big name riders doing very little, like Astana and Quintana! He's becoming one of my favourite riders with this attacking attitude.
Chris, you need to come up with arrows that are Red, Green, Blue Polk-a-dot, along with White. Pink for Giro, of course Yellow for The Tour. Thanks for the great insight.
This is turning out to be a Vuelta for the breakaway. And I hope that Soler gets to win at least one stage. He is the most animated rider in the breakaway but also the biggest knucklehead.
Lights have come a long way since the Nightsun system with the water bottle battery I used to ride way back when.... although the machined billet mounts were very cool.
Back to yesterday. RC interview was interesting. He said they did cause the crash and he felt disrespected because no one ever came over after the race to apologize.
Ouch. Nico Roche kept blaming Darren Rafferty today for Carapaz crash and I’m sitting there listening to Nico while thinking that’s not possible, Darren is already up the rode. 😱🤪🦋🤔
The other thing is that this was Carapaz, a star rider and a threat to Ben O'Connor's podium chances. You want to stop any tendency to rough up your main competitors.
Chris, I don't know if I agree with your use of "sports". Most sports are team against team, winner takes all. What makes pro cycling so special is all the competitions within the competition, and how many opportunities there are to win something. To see so many different riders and teams bidding on so many prizes is what makes our sport the absolute BEST IMO. And you should say that and be soooo proud of it. Not bustin' on ya or anything! Your show is by far the most entertaining. You are an outstanding teacher, unafraid to repeat words and phrases making sure even the novice can follow along. Cheers.
I believe the entire cycling community was rooting for Kern Pharma.... I kept screaming at Mauro to let that man go 😅... "Dammit Mauro, stop the chase!!!" 😂😂😂 I think it worked. Congrats Pablo
Yes. He would be a very good or a favorite in this group. Woods is a good climber as you can see from his win during the TdF and 2nd at the worlds when Valverde won it. He can win when the group of climbers is not the elite climbers in a GT. He carries to much muscle in my opinion to be an elite climber but those kind of climbers are always very good for a couple days in the mountains. So your friends and/or comments you are reading are getting mixed up with good versus elite. 🤔🦋👊
Blocking the road might be a normal strategy, but it's also against the UCI rules with a 500 Swiss franc penalty plus some points in addition to the yellow card. Like a lot of rules, teams might decide the penalty is worth it in some situations
If that block wasn’t there Carapaz doesn’t go down. That’s kind of the bottom line. At the lead of the whole peloton they need to be super careful about blocks, they can take out 60 guys…

I hear ya. My guy and I help coach my grandson’s MTB team. The kids’ joy at finishing is amazing.

Pablo threw everything at that win that he had. Even later in the interview he was still hurting. 👊🦋💪
Marc Soler and his Solerism. The man would be winning more races if he didn’t make more work for himself.

What a fantastic win for Pablo Castrillo and Kern Pharma, promoted from the Continental level ~3 years ago.

What a brave ride by Pablo! Hope to see him in the Tour next year.

Chris the winner and Marc are both riders for the director that passed. First and third at the grand tour. Rather nice send off agreed?
