    I had been diagnosed with GERD, Laryngopharyngeal Reflux, Esophagitis, Hiatal Hernia and Antral Gastropathy. My only concerning symptom in the first place is burning in my throat, mouth, nose and ears. Endoscopy showed that my esophageal sphincter isnt tight, hence the reflux. Was prescribed Omeprazole (acid suppressing drug) but i really had a bad reaction. I started having constant sharp pains and electric sensation on my foot, then it progressed to all over my body, including my mouth and teeth, muscles are very soft/flaccid but no pains on my neck and head.
    I had the EMG/NCS test done and i regret it so much. Been buzzed with electric shocks all over my body, but when it came to the needle part, the physiatrist punctured diff. locations on the back of my neck, stirred the needle around the muscles and all went downhill from then on. I now have pains on my neck, shoulders and head, painful bloating, burping, difficulty breathing and bowel issues soon followed. Its been over a year now, still suffering. I don't know if the nerves been triggered, cut/severed during the procedure.
    I'm just worried because I'm thin and ALL my muscles are very soft, I mean I can literally feel my bones (when pressed) and its so painful. I don't know what other things thats been punctured in my neck. Other than reflux, I have other gastro symptoms I never had before the EMG. I wonder if my gastro symptoms has something to do with my neck. EMG/NCV test result: probable Cervical Radiculopathy, Bilateral (C8T1) acute partial denervation. Double Crush Syndrome bilateral. Sural Neuropathy bilateral with myelinopathic changes.

    but if you're interested in theories, before my accident i had the feeling to wear my helmet but my heart had a bad feeling and i didn't grab it and when trying to pull down my seat belt from the side by side it wouldn't even nudge, but to the point when i was in the hospital had pulled my cardiac artery and was about to bleed out intentionally, they gave me a MRI scan and they found that i had a hyperactive thyroid which explained a lot of things of why i was so emotional and unstable.. So look into the Nova theory because i believed it happened to me, and at a young age I had this accident , Feb 2, 2018 , I had just turned 14.

    Dr. Please help.
    I donated blood last weekend.
    Those nurses weren't careful enough(may be). I'm experiencing a deep pain whenever i try to move my arm around. There is also a dark blood shade beneath the skin.
    I'm very much worried about the damage being made to my arm.😢😢😢. Will it heal or is it more permanent? ?
    Edit: it's back to normal now after almost a month.

    I had surgery 3 weeks ago for herniated disc l5 with removal of a synovial cyst there too. I previously to surgery had butt, groin, hip and lower calf pain. These have gone away, but a week 1/2 ago went I get up first thing I have pain in my ankle whereas cannot put heel down for 15-20 minutes. I think this is residual nerve pain and have something I take before bed, but still have it every morning. All else is good and I hope eventually the nerve will repair itself. Just checking with you after watching you video.

    My acupuncture put a needle too far into my ankle and i fear i have permanent nerve damage. This incident happened a year ago and it was very painful when it first happened, felt like a lightning bolt shoot down my leg. I couldn’t walk for a month until the acupuncture doctor told me to force stretch my leg even if it hurt excruciatingly. The pain on my heel went away but one year later and now my toes and bottom of my foot are numb. I have no idea what to do or how to handle this situation. I fear that the puncture to the nerve and the malpracticed advice to stretch permanently wrapped my nerve between my foot. Is there any way to repair or fix this or am i doomed for pain control for the rest of my life? I’ve never been this depressed in my life for i fear the worst. I have not been able to walk for the last three weeks comfortably.

    Do you think a doctor should be able to specify all this with an EMG? If not an EMG, what tests would have to be performed to get the details on the exact type of nerve damage? I’ve got a brachial plexus nerve damage problem that I’ve been dealing with for about 10 months, it was only recently diagnosed correctly when I made the issue a hundred times worse while stretching and my lost function and sensation in my left arm. My doctor did an EMG and noted some damage to the upper plexus and said she saw signs that it was recovering from an injury that appeared to be 6-12 months old and there was no need for further treatment other than to stay active with therapy. I feel like this was a really unsatisfactory experience as I don’t feel safe at the gym but I can’t live with the atrophy of the affected muscles so I do my best to target them in spite of fact that they don’t cooperate well, fatigue extremely fast, and are extremely painful. I know you can’t give medical advice on my circumstances but hypothetically would a doctor be able to find all this out to give me a more detailed prognosis than damage to the upper plexus? I feel like the fact that I lost function and experience so much pain that saying it’s getting better doesn’t make much sense. It’s hard to believe, it feels like a pressing issue that needs to be addressed not something I just let heal as I don’t feel like I’m improving the way they think I am.

    • @DrSimonFreilich
      @DrSimonFreilich  5 років тому

      Hi Luis - it sounds like you'd be best off seeing an experienced orthopaedic shoulder surgeon with the EMG results.They are well placed in their understanding of the anatomy, movement and physical therapy needs of what is a very complex joint and often work in liaison with physio's to address the rehab needs of those affected with conditions such as yours. An EMG result in isolation isn't helpful to patients and is one of the main reasons that I don't accept direct self-referrals. Bw Simon

    Hello Dr. Freilich
    I had right L5-S1disc herniation about 13 months ago with radiculopathy (which evolved during these 9 pro-op months).
    4 Months ago I decided to have a microdiscectomy on that disc.
    The symtopms that I have is foot numbness mainly in the balls of the toes.
    It becomes irritated and sore when walking or applying a lot of pressure in this area. The whole foot feels "going away" or "not there" when I put closed shoes and start walking for a distance.
    Also I cannot sit in certain positions for long periods of time as I get flairups.
    It seems to be very slowly improving but It doesn't resolve to the point that it's not annoying and bothering me anymore.
    How can I assess my nerve root damage and what is the recovery for such an injury? Will/can the nerve regain it's conduction let's say 90% in the next 6 months? If so what are the indications for that?
    Thank you

      Hi Roey, lumbar levels of injury often take a couple of years to resolve. It sounds- in the grand scheme of things- not too bad (yes, very easy for me to say) given that you've only got numbnes and not weakness as well which is a positive thing. Hi Jose, unfortunately, spinal cord tissue doesn't repair or have the same capacity for regrowth as peripheral nerve tissue. This is very much the 'holy grail' of rehab research. There seems to be an 'off switch' that is triggered when we are still very young, that halts this ability. As such, there is very little specific that can be recommended over and above a number of the types of treatments you describe. Bw Simon

      Hi, unfortunately, at present there is no known cure for spinal cord injuries. Lots of efforts are being made to achieve this, and it's a matter of time. We know that the cells in the spinal cord are capable of growing, whilst we are babies but various 'switches' get thrown that stop this. We need to better understand these processes and then we can move treatment forward. In the meantime, physiotherapys are the way forward. Bw Simon

    • @DrSimonFreilich
      @DrSimonFreilich  Рік тому +1

      Hi Harsha, this is a difficult question to answer because few surgeons have the confidence to publish their complication rates, and even those who do, can have varying definitions of deficits, severity, duration and recovery. Having said that,I have found data suggesting a range of about 5-6%. The other aspect to consider is the risk of foot drop from not operating. Generally, any surgery carries risks and the decision to operate needs to take into account the balance between taking action and inaction. From my experience, surgeons only decompress spines when they see evidence that they really need to, and when it does happen, there is usually no obvious reason/cause identified when they look in to it. Hope that helps and wishing you better, Simon

    • @DrSimonFreilich
      @DrSimonFreilich  2 місяці тому +1

      Hi, it's now accepted that as a rare drug reaction, ciprofloxacin can cause these symptoms as a presentation of a peripheral neuropathy. The general advice is to discontinue taking it (you'll need to see your doctor re a replacement for whatever reason it was prescribed) and usually it settles by itself. There are no obvious reasons to predispose it occurring, and no specific treatments other than letting the body settle things down. Hope that helps, bw Simon
