25 years ago, I accidentally gave one of my clients a vagal syncope while applying a technique for the Longus Colli & Longus Cervicis muscles. To do so, one gently displaces the aorta toward the other side, and reaches for those muscles (this is a technique for people who suffer from injuries such as a whiplash). The incident happened while working on the right side of the patient. Had I know the different paths the two sides take, nothing would have happened (she was out for about 10 seconds and was fine afterward). All this to say "thank you" for clarifying this for me. Greetings from Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Oh my… you have hit my geek out nerve! Instant addiction mode activated. Going to need to hit replay obsessively! I have been in vagus nerve mast cells activation hells bells for a lifetime. A constant signal is activating my sympathetic mode. I’ve known for so long that is fine injury that affected my neck and my tail bone kicked off a hypersensitivity activation to all things environmental outside and inside the body. But obviously every doctor out there fell asleep and biology anatomy class in regards to the vagus nerve and signaling and maybe they should’ve just went to electricians school or maybe become like a modern day sensor wiring auto mechanic Specialist before receiving their medical degree and revisit That anatomy class that explains the vagus nerve. Maybe then they would stop sending people to the psychiatrist or psychologist office and maybe start sending them to potentially a neurologist
I can cry watching this video, I am having pain in my left side of neck when I touch that painful place I can feel a pulse and my artery, it runs from under the jaw to the collar bone together with artery and feel like infected. Pain comes and goes, not constant. I have stomach issues, intestine issues left from my belly, my oesophagus feels tight all the time. I also have pain around the artery just left from my belly when i press that spot while breathing out. I never have heartburn or acid reflux, I have brain fog, nausea.. My blood work always comes just fine (had slightly elevated bilirubin for 9 months) , abdominal ultrasound came clean and I am desperate. They always brush it off on anxiety.
I am interested in the vagus nerve. So this video was very interesting. Before i thought it was more thrue the spine, never would think it walks around the stomach aswell, and by the hart. Since a year i started to get palpitations. I have had last 5 years a lot of stress and grieve. Before i was very healthy. Dr. Bergman said to me maybe the sympathetic nervesystem overruel everything. 5y ago i got hypothyoroid problems, hashimoto. Plus digesting, stomach issues. Doctors say even i have to live with it like something is broken... but i dont believe that. From medication i got side effects. I am reading, see videos etc to learn about it how things work. From cardiologist dr. Gupta i learned too that the vagusnerve can have influence at the hartritme aswell your bowls, stomach too... Does the vagusnerve influences the thyoroid?? I see it walks very close along it. Dr. Bergman said if cortisol by stress goes up, thyoroid function goes down. How much does the vagusnerve works on the thyoroid???
Great video. SUGGESTION though. It would be really cool if in addition to this one, i would be really cool if you were able to slap the deep cervical fascia on there complete with a carotid sheath and the other deep, medium and superficial layers of fascia so one can see how big the space if around the vagus nerve.. Mine actually gets compressed and tensioned in my neck due to extreme postural issues. Considering the course of the vagus nerve its a pretty cramped up space and the vagus wraps in front of C1 and C2 so if those are misaligned of have instability or extreme forward head posture, the nerve doesn't have much Leigh way.. This area has not been researched much how the neck structure affects the vagus nerve and it can easily be injured just by the tension on it. It has nothing to do with how deep the nerve is, its how cramped the space is in some peoples necks. I've been dealing with vagus nerve damage at the jugular foramen because i have extreme hyper lordosis of my cervical spine! 6 months now, and I've been trying to heal it with low intensity ultrasound. The vagus nerve regenerates poorly is the sad part. i have to fix my forward head with ZERO degree traction Because angled traction only pulled my neck more forward. Im trying to get companies to make devices for my neck to fix it even my hunchback of 76 degrees.. Hopefully you can add in the video about how its possible for the vagus nerve to get compressed or tensioned in the neck. I would sure like to show my drs and prove to them about such an unheard of thing. Because they didnt agree it could be my vagus nerve. Theres way more ways people damage their vagus nerve than just what doctors tell ya or websites. The things that can ARE. 1. mold exposure (neurotoxin) 2.diabetes 3. Stress hormone which is also a neurotoxin 4. Car accident 5. Neck problems especially that are extremely uncommon like mine and need more research. 6. any neurotoxin can damage Any nerve, 7. Not getting enough hydration can damage nerves in general. THERE are so many ways to damage the vagus nerve and my dumb doctor only mentioned 3 ways!!!
As a layman, that was about as easy to follow as could be hoped for. The purpose of my curiosity is that I am subject to nocturnal AF occasionally and this is usually triggered, seemingly, by sipping cold, (ambient), water. I wonder if the temperature drop thus caused by the water somehow triggers a response in cardiac rhythms via the vagus nerve... ?
thank you for your video. I had a major fall from a horse in 2006 and damaged my c4 and c5 spine as well as all of the nerve damage that resulted from that, which until now I never understood. I was found to have Sudden Death Syndrome and had to have a deffibrilator put in. During the surgery I was infected by a micro-bacterial infection. It took 6-8 weeks to grow and become a cough later diagnosed as bollettii by Denver National Jewish Hospital as no one in the east coast had seen this. While in Denver, 2017 I was told I have CF as well as the initial infection. My right lung is essentially full of phlegm now and I rely on my left lung to this day. When you took snapped off the lung at 8:41 in your video and then the other for purposes of visibility I was blown away with how large the right lung is! Your ease of removal was really quite funny but had me thinking. Do you think that having my lung removed would aid in my day- to- day life positively? They had mentioned it as a possibility when I was diagnosed in 2017 Christmas. Or could it cause an enormous number of other complications? Thanks again for video. I do Pilates several times a week and speed walk on a treadmill regularly as well as swim. So, it's easy to say I am relatively active.
Is it possible for you to do a video on how the vagus nerve connects to to face? And also on your opinions on how you can heal your vagus nerve after suffering from botulism. Thank you
The vagus nerve doesn't innervate the face, as such. It innervates deeper structures such as those of the pharynx and larynx, and a bit of the external acoustic meatus. The trigeminal nerve innervates the skin of the face and the muscles of mastication, and the facial nerve innervates the muscles of facial expression. Luk 6:45 - A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the HEART his MOUTH speaketh.
this is an insane thank you that i didn't even know i needed to see!!! THANK YOU!
U're a legend man, u know that
Thanx a lot. Always used to listen about parasympathetic nervous system but i wanted to know the location and you made it clear for a layman
I love this! So easy to follow and understand. Thanks.
Wonderful demonstration
I am in love with this man!
Hats off to you 👏👏
Oh my… you have hit my geek out nerve!
What a beautiful explanation❤
Thanks for teaching me!
absolutely amazing explanation and demo. Thank you so much !
Very useful, thank you!
Fantastic ❤
Wow! Thanks. This helps with my anatomy classes soooo much!
Your hair looks gorgeous.
Research Hyatal hernia syndrome on YT, you'll find all the answers there. I have similar problems for 6 years, doctors are useless.
The simplicity ❤
Excellent superb overview. Thank you sir. Dr Wood
How much does the vagusnerve works on the thyoroid???
i hated anatomy before(actually i like it but donot understand by reading books) and you have made anatomy beautiful
That was Amazing Sam , thank you so much❤
Very informative. Thank you so much 🙏
As a layman, that was about as easy to follow as could be hoped for.
Thank you for this explanation!
Gracias!
Very informative! Thank you! 😊
You are great 😊
Wonderful video. Does the vagus carry more parasympathetic motor fibers or more visceral afferents?
thank you for your video.
Wonderfully clear thank you!
Awesome thanks
Thank you!!! I love this nerve!
You love a nerve? We should talk
@@reinergol4351 lol Yes I believe this is a magical nerve!!!
Magnificent! thank you very much.
Try these videos:
