The fact that it does not is alone sufficient to rubbish any claim that it is their intention to kill civilians. The combatant to civilian death ratio is also vastly better than the 1 to 9 cited by the UN as typical of war too.
Women and children die in pretty much all wars. Save the children cite 85k children dying in just 3 years of the Yemen civil war and about 50k are believed to have died in the Syrian civil war. There's a bizarre double-standard when it comes to Israel.

My father said: Do not give them salutation first, for AbuHurayrah reported the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) as saying: Do not salute them (Jews and Christians) first, and when you meet them on the road, force them to go to the narrowest part of it.

You can understand how it feels like it is to people though, yeah? If you grew up knowing that the entire western world hated your grandparents, and a good portion of them decided to deliberately exile, torment and finally murder them and their friends, I think you would be afraid at the thought of no safe place to retreat to if it were to happen again. I have close friends with different opinions because they view this from opposite perspectives and when it comes down to it, they're all primarily just afraid for their loved ones.

So let's abbreviate this as "JSII", meaning "Jewish State in Israel".
