    You can’t be mad about the trial period Gary, although it looked funny when you did. 😂 Honestly, she is a smart girl, lots of abusive relationship for example start with what’s called “love bombing” which is basically making big commitments fast and putting the person on a pedestal of perfect and it can be confusing and difficult in the beginning when you don’t know the person well to separate genuine intentions and feelings from that. Sadly, speaking from experience. You are obviously a great guy, and it just clicked for both of you but she was really smart to give herself the time to get to know you. You both look so happy now. 😊💕

      Jovana exactly! I was just getting ready to write it all out and you have put my thoughts out there already! It is great that it all worked out well. Girls, always move into relationships slowly. If the person is the right person the time will tell and there will be NO pressure. Gary if you had a daughter I hope you would have thought more rationally and there is no space for ego in this instance - you should have shake Valeria's hand for this. Well done Valeria

    • @martinacatinelli
      @martinacatinelli 3 роки тому +62

      Just to add, you as a 38-year-old man at the time surely wanted to lock things down, but her as a 20-year-old girl has/had absolutely right to hesitate. The general rule of thumb is to proceed VERY carefully when someone proposes to you only after 2 months. Love bombing involves statements as you are the best, you the one, you are the smartest, most beautiful, the most special, and all other superlatives in a very short period of time. Gary gave a huge explanation of how there are many pretty girls out there yet Valeria can not have the same critical judgment. Women hear love bombing alllll the time.

      @GigianNelgin 3 роки тому +12

      Totally. You've put my thoughts into words. The love bombing, the fairy tale, the age difference.. there's no place for ego on this one. It is the smartest thing to put a hint of logic into a pie of emotions.

      I love this comment because so many people just don’t get that marriage ISNT your feelings,marriage is the choice you make.when you’re dating and getting to know someone it’s much less messy to leave if things go down hill.

    The way that Valeria stayed grounded and unreactive even when her partner was upset is really eye-opening to me. How easy it is to confuse other people's emotions with our own. How easy it is to feel implicated in someone's emotional reaction.

    I am unsure why Gary reacted this way to the first question. For him, of course, he knew straight away that he wants to be with her “for ever”. She was so much younger and you can’t expect a 20 year old to know you’re “the one” within only 2 months and think that this is it for her. Of course it was a trial period.

      I think the issue is not that she needed time to make sure he was the one, it’s that he is only finding out now. Gary, I think if you reflect more about the first question you'll see that Valeria's comment about the trial period is actually very understandable. You made a serious move on her when she was only 20 and in two months and she loved you so much that she said yes, obviously she wanted to make sure she wouldn't lose you, but she just also still needed to make sure you were the man she believed you were, that you live well together before finally getting married. If anything, it shows just how seriously she takes the marriage.

    It's perfectly normal to hesitate when you enter new relationship and it was wise of her to wait and test the guy. She's younger but sooo much more mature then he is. She's also very patient with his childish tantrum over something that happened a decade ago.

    Gary shouldn't be upset with the trial comment. It's quite normal to feel like that when you first move in with a partner. Doesn't mean you think or feel less of the other partner. Being with someone in the beginning will always feel like a trial to see if you work.

      I think he is upset because he was 100% sure he wanted to be with her and asked her to marry him. The comment of a trial period makes it sound like she wasn’t sure and was like fuck it I’ll play along with the wedding and if I don’t want him I’ll just call it off. You can be 100% sure you want to be with a person, and live together and that you realise this person's rutine or life expectations do not match with yours. I believe it is smart to give room to the possibility that something can go wrong, specially when you've only met a person for 2 months and you are starting something very real that's suposed to last for a lifetime. Would be very innocent to not think, "let's live together to reinforce the feeling I have now".

    I love love love these q&a’s!!! I think it would be really helpful to me and probably a lot of other people if you did a video specifically about boundaries in the early stages of a relationship. Like what were checkpoints that you both had in your minds along the way and how long did it take you guys to open up to each other on deeper more vulnerable levels. Basically just any more wise pieces of advice on starting a healthy relationship and caring for a partner and your own self during that stage.

  • @sonnylovesfreddy340

    It is so clear that you both take working on the relationship as one of the most important aspects of your life. Sometimes people think that if it is the right person then it doesn't take any work...which is absurd. Anything of value and anything that can stand the test of time takes work. A lot of it. It may not feel like work (and hopefully it doesn't) but it really is. And it is work you do on yourself. By being a better person you can be a better partner. I also love the part where Gary said that if you are just focusing on the flaws of the person then the problem is you. So true.

When I first started watching you a few years ago and I saw you and Garry my first thought was she is beautiful and young and he is rich, that is why they are together and I was amazed, that you guys were in a relationship (even though my parents are married and 20 years apart). BUT then video with Gary came out where you guys were talking a lot and my perspective shifted as soon as I saw how you were interracting with each other. I even feel almost ashamed. It makes perfect sence that you are together. I absolutely love how healthy and mature your relationship is. And from what you put on the internet this is what I want my relationship to look like. It showed me what I want and made me ralize that there is zero amount of 'unhealthy' I should tolerate in my romantic relationship. Hope this makes sence, english is not my first language. i'm 21 and if anyone, but especially someone who is two times older than me, proposes to me even in 5 years of relationships ima gonna say "wait a sec..." and run as fast as possible
    and he's upset about TWO MONTHS being not enough?????
    always thought he was like that, but now i know it for sure
    he really just wanted to catch her in a wed while she's still young and easy to manipulate
    having a kid when you're just 20 and your husband that you only know for 1 year is like father-age for you... sounds like a nightmare
    nothing is okay with that and he knows it too, that's why he reacts like that. no one wants their sins to be exposed
    hopefully she's strong enough right now to never ever let him put her down again
    but i can't even imagine how scary it was for her back then when they were engaged

    I love this type of vid no bullshit whatsoever like 'oh I knew he was the one when I first laid eyes on him'. It's cause this two have been through a lot that they learn from it and they were able to form into their heads that this is something I want in my the one. And by the time they met each other same values, culture, beliefs and sentiments. Fuck it we're not perfect but we can make it work! Sorry for the bad words that happens when you're passionately explaining something. Most of all, I find you two so passionate and respectful to one another. And I love and respect you even more for that!

    First of, looooove the content, thanks guys. About the flaws question: I think the question was not that much about focusing on the negative things, but more like: “we all know at rhe beginning of a relationship love is blind and we’re usually so happy, but then with time when hormones calm down and logic kicks in we see the flaws in each other, with a more realistic perspective and some people fall out love, so how did you guys get to “know know” each other so quickly overcoming the first in-love blindness”.
    That’s how I understood it

    Fantastic video....the maturity and wisdom with you both is commendable. Young people need to hear this more often.....popular culture is lying to us, too many emotions and not much thinking or respect.

    perfect... just the right kind of mindset to make the relationship long lasting. Its a little admirable she knew this already at a young age because I wouldn't. However I deduce you practically grow together. awesome, you blend.
    and a woman would not play any games if she's feeling safe and secure in the relationship and a mature one that is.

    Is this old guy seriously getting pissed over her not knowing that he was the one at 19/20 after 2 months? After a decade of being together he still gets upset by this?
    I don't want to judge a relationship I don't know, but this sounds like he is not very mature. Which would also explain why he had the need for a young wife. Also the comment about she only javing female friends - dude it's perfectly normal for people to have friends of the other gender
