For a lot of my childhood, I only knew Godzilla through homages and parodies of him. It really wasn't until I first watched 2000 that was properly introduced to the franchise. I mean I only saw the furst 10 minutes because my younger brothers didn't like watching the film, but I immediately feel in love with the franchise right there. Watching more movies like GMK, seeing James Rofle's Godzillathon, and the trailer for G2014 helped me develop my taste in what I love about the Big G. It's his versatility and ability to somehow tackle any tone, and it still feels like a natural part of the franchise. From the existential dread of Shin, to the goofy insanity of Invasion of the Astro Monster, they're all still Godzilla, and there's going to be something for anyone to enjoy.
🔥
Monster Island Buddies?
That how you know that a youtuber is actually a fan of a franchise instead of a quick buck for your viewings.
Funny thing is I think doctor skipper permanently ruined shoebills for me. I don’t think I can look at that bird the same way again without feeling immense rage.
I love Godzilla because of many things. His timeless design, his abilities, what he represents, and the opponents he faced.
I think it's really funny. America is kinda having its own Showa era. Started seriously and had a sequel that brought in more serious elements, THEN a a sequel that brought in a crossover and some silly elements THEEEEEEEN a very conceptual silly one with the release of New Empire. History repeats itself.
Also an amazing video. your timing and comedic moments have me hooked. I cant wait to see what you do next!!
You get it!
It’s a love letter to the showa era comrade.
While that’s all well and good, I really do hope that the MonsterVerse goes back to the balance that it had in KOTM instead of having no clue what it wants to be. When the MonsterVerse is balanced, we don’t have to have this massive either-or where you either want dark and gritty Godzilla or fun and stupid Godzilla which creates a war in the entire fandom. It’s like wanting stupid Golden age style Batman in the same universe as Matt Reeves’s Batman, you can love both while not necessarily wanting them to merge out of respect for the story and lore that has been created. I personally think that the MonsterVerse should just keep a blend between the silly and the serious, that way everyone gets what they want from the same film.
Real that the fact that we’ve both gotten into Godzilla by the liking of dinosaurs and monsters🗿
Godzilla has one of the best monster fights and monster designs
I have a good feeling about this channel love your iceberg vid happy to be here from the start
Dawggg how do you only have 500 subs?? You’re really underrated man keep up the good work
Heeeeey, I also watched Godzilla Final wars as a kid two decades ago.
I was made aware of Godzilla thanks to the 1962 King Kong vs. Godzilla film and the 1998 movie. I became fan when I asked my dad to take me to the 2014 film in theaters and that was the best decision in my life.
I’ve been a fan since i watched KOTM
Just the overall concept of Godzilla, a big lizard that shoots lasers out their mouth and destroys stuff, is prob the reason why young me liked Godzilla so much (and also the sick AMVs of him), just seeing him beat up giant monsters activated something inside kid me, that made me so invested in Godzilla even to this very day. (also sad no Godzilla vid next :( but still excited tho)
Great list of recommendations! Some additional ones for me would be:
Godzilla 2000 (Sony Cut), my personal first Godzilla movie I ever saw, and in theaters no less! (Not the recent limited release, but the OG one back in 2000 yes I'm that old). It's also got the gist of the whole series wrapped up in one neat little bow imo. And the sound design in that cut is so good the original Japanese director actually prefers the Sony Cut.
Invasion of Astro-Monster, cus I'm a bona-fide Showa stan, and despite having the least ammount of screen time for Godzilla in his entire filmography, it's still one of the best ones imo! Its just a great sci-fi movie all around, with a great performance from the late Nick Adams. It also introduces the Planet X aliens, the building blocks for the Xilians in Final Wars and the Exif in the Polygon Trilogy (if you're into that).
And finally, Godzilla vs Kong, cus it's the definitive version of that iconic matchup (I still love the OG from 62), and it's the tone setter for the current state of the MonsterVerse, def give this a watch to gauge to see if you'll enjoy New Empire coming out in two days!!
Final Wars is an insane way to get introduced to Godzilla lol. Mine was the US 98 Godzilla
New to your channel. I'm a big fan of Godzilla and love Iceberg videos so it was a perfect combo. I've loved dinosaurs too since I was little and that's what stemmed my love of Godzilla. My first memories of Godzilla were of the more light hearted Showa era movies on TV at the weekend. I've had a love for him ever since.
Hey really nice video mate! It’s nice just seeing someone discuss their thoughts on a series they love that’s feels earnist and doesn’t have much jokes in it. I’ve been meaning to get back into video making, so seeing something passionate might’ve lifted my spirits a little haha. While not the first kaiju related media I saw, Godzilla unleashed was my first exposure to the series. Since then I’ve never left it, and my wallet has seen better days.
"it's just the movie equivalent of bashing action figures together" Okay, what's wrong with that? I can still enjoy it. In fact, it's one of the most enjoyable things someone can do, even if it's not that deep.
Amazing work and would love to see more of your work in the future, keep it up man, another godzilla fan uwu
I remember seeing Godzilla 2014 when I was 8! My parents weren’t Godzilla fans but they were monster movie fans and wanted me to also enjoy monster movies. I remember loving the movie but it wasn’t until GKOTM did I remember who Godzilla was. When GvK came out it stuck and i became a huge fan and active seek out older movies. I watch 3 showa movies and thought they were fun and hysterical! But it’s hard finding old Godzilla movies with subtitles and not the English dub 😅. I’m now 18 and incredibly excited for GxK the new empire!
My grandfather introduced me to the toho monster movies when I was little. We would watch any marathons that came on tv and our favorite was mothra. He passed away nearly 10 years ago now and I often think of how much I would love to share the modern era of movies with him
Great video on why you love Godzilla. I like Godzilla too in fact I am a massive Godzilla fan boy
Honestly I’ve been a fan of Godzilla some I was like 6 and I absolutely love Godzilla he is my entirely favourite kaiju ever the first ever Godzilla movie I watched was Godzilla vs space godzilla but I did watch gojira 1954 after and now Godzilla 2014 honestly I get goosebumps after seeing the film and honestly I’ve been such a monster-verse fan
And subscribed.
This is a fantastic video man!!!!!
I always loved godzilla but recently with your video and other vids made me like it even more
5:24 BLUE LOBSTAAAAA
Priase this guy 🙏🙏🙏
It kind of sucks that your starter kit was the very modern takes on godzilla. One of the things that made g special was its Radom appearance on tv
Before cable/ vhs /dvd/blue ray/ and now streaming. And actually catching one in the old theaters was a treat. Unfortunately the first one in the theaters for me was Megalon.
Love how u used jobbys cover for your intro also awesome take. I feel alot of godzilla fans are like you, were just too silent about it.
Congrats on the new success, keep up the good work dude
Thanks! Will do!
Final Wars really is a good way to see if u gonna like Godzilla or. It. Glad u do cause once u do there so many thing great about it 😁
And yeah Godzilla can be enjoyed in many way . Not gonna pretend I like it all and while I do find the Monsterverse doesn’t hook me as much as the Japanese version, possible due to lack of Godzilla fly kick and Godzilla lifting off with his Atomic Breath and where is Hedorah!? Ah-hem. But yeah joke aside nothing wrong with enjoying Monsterverse, they are great too 😆
Sadly, i cannot watch some of the Godzilla films bc of Disk A system and I am from Estonia. However, i still wish to watch the older godzilla films.
underated
Bruh, I liked him before he became US popular. Childhood fan
🔥
bro I got garfield on the mind and miss read the title as "Why I Love Lasagna"
Next time
I actually met the original 1954 Gojira suit actor at G-Fest one year. 😊.
🔥
@@brainfolds It was so surreal and he was very kind and gentle. Just like your tiny grandpa of America lol.
Imo, i wouldnt recommend godzilla vs king ghidorah and shin godzilla immediately.
Ill just recommend some of the newer films and gmk and 1954 so they can have a taste of godzilla first before they go to the best ones
4:26 why is miss jenson going into the mans bathroom!?
