Yes but what about brofists?
Good video though 👍
Those can be either gay or lethal
Don't make me spinning brofist you bro
Lol nothing is better than a brofist
Brofists are illegal in every fight
Backfist version, arm-against-arm facing opposite directions side-by-side to each other, wearing sunglasses and shouting "yeah" while an aeroplane takes off behind it. Into a rock song. With an explosion, somehow.
Now that's how it's done. Gay AND lethal.
Perfect breakdown, comprehensive and concise. I’ve learned to expect the best from you guys. Keep it up!
If the elbow is down u're not using your triceps strength. But with your elbow facing to the side the triceps get together with the delts adding more power to the movement. Simple like that.
Me Too!
I'm loving these collaboration videos, Shane!
♥️🇵🇭
How about spinning eye poke, that's deadly.
Not as deadly as the spinning testical strike.

Amazing! He is the real champ!..Very knowledgeble guy!..Keep bringing him more for some pin point fine tips!..Superb!
I tore a bicep muscle accidentally throwing a hammer fist with the back fist’s elbow positioning so please follow these guy’s instructions precisely lol
Well ouch, thanks for taking one for the team.
Well presented and clear, thank you for sharing.
Thanks for this tips 👍🏼
Absolutely spot on,love this technique.
Great quality in these videos
I agree bro , that was a great explanation
i agree, some techniques have to be modified for competition with gloves but without them gloves you might break a pinkey, keep up the good collab and thanks for the tips cheers
Cheers, cool that You guys made collaboration.
I prefer hammerfist i think its more comfortable
also its faster and makes more sense as an attack
I’ve always thrown my spinning backfist as a hammer fist, it just felt more comfortable I guess.
The J Wow to The situation strike the Jersey shore lol ok yes but some places don't let you use the but it sure is easier on your arms shoulders wrists and elbows
Can u pls do the speedball vid love the vids keep it up from Ireland 🇮🇪
thank you so much

Lol the "Who are you" at the end 😂
Want to get my kids into boxing / mma, how do u recommend getting the right size for gloves and gear? I have an 8 year old boy, 5 year old girl and 3 year old boy. Thank you for the info, keep the videos coming. They are awesome!
This is a great video. I use both techniques but must say one comes with a certain anxiety when you train bare knuckles for self defense. The hammer is just safer. Both have their place and can be used with devastating power, but the back fist could leave both people injured unless youre a shaolin monk haha.
Shane, question. How about a video on doing a dropkick/double leg drop kick & the use of it in a mma/street fight too?
Liger Zero Thats pretty dumb bro, remember after doing that extremely predictable kick you will be on the ground...
You're asking about throwing yourself prone, from at least waist high, onto the surface you're standing on? This seems like a bad idea, unless you're doing a Hell in a Cell against John Cena.
This is very interesting
People actually throw spinning back fists with the elbow DOWN? Except for the part with glove padding, everything you said works just as well with a back fist.
You should try practicing and using hammer fist and practice missing and striking secondary objects or nothing at all.
I intentionally appear as if I am missing as a set up to a spinning hammer strike. The hammer strike increases impact pressure usually greater than a person can take especially to the head.
This a dangerous method of fighting and can kill.
It's actually a ritualistic method of combat designed to kill or mame or cause death later.
It's my only defensive move and missing is only a setup.
ive only known backfisters here to have the elbow down early for protection but at the impact area there is no difference -like and agree with the glove limitations bit -keep on with tips
I've always learned it the exact way you threw the hammer fist, but did a back fist instead. Now I prefer the hammer fist execution, but that's how I've always learned the backfist
I love this. Thank you because I never thought of it as a spinning technique superior to the backfist and will use this. I was fortunate enough to learn a technique I never see but it is money. Throw an upward hammer fist to either the liver or spleen depending on the side. I think you should show this technique. It is very powerful and nobody expects it. Hammer fist to the body are awesome. Depending on position you can hit anywhere even to the solar plexus if you side step. I am not a pro fighter. I did Taekwondo and this is my best hand strike. Basically, instead of hammer fisting the temple, throw it low as a body shot to the floating ribs. We used to brake boards and laugh all you want this low hammer fist allowed me to break 5 no spaced boards. Also, I have had to used it. I practice it on the heavy bag too. I am not a boxer so the strike is great for none MMA people like me. Hammer fists are the most powerful strikes ever! Yes, that meaty part of the hand is meatier than a bulls ass!
UPWARD hammer fist to the liver or spleen? 😐🫢
Not doubting you bro I'm just having trouble picturing exactly what you mean.
Do you mean like throwing a low hook or shovel hook to the body but twisting arm so that hit with a hammer fist instead of knuckle/fist?
Anyway I agree hammer fists are awesome, and a way underutilized technique IMHO.
Hammer fist has a lot of bone on the side of the hand. Plus it's pretty effective!!!! I use it a lot in my Kali training.
Question: Wouldn't throwing the hammerfist variation leave you more exposed to breaking your forearm Similar to what happened to Paige Vanzant if you happened to catch that fight. As always, loved all the detail you guys went into!!
That is true, with the ulna bone taking the brunt of the force (as opposed to it being dispersed across the ulna and radius bone with a backfist). Lots of factors to keep in mind. Just remember that range is key!
@@fighttips Wow, thanks for the response! I wasn't sure if that was a distance management issue or if improved form could prevent that. Thanks again for the reply. Love your content!
Make a video on mistakes for spinning hook kick
Shane do you still compete or are you just a trainer now?
How would this translate to an overhand back-/hammer-fist (perhaps over a shoving arm across the chest), or a reverse back-/hammer-fist in a hooking motion? Or maybe even an upward reverse/non-reverse back-/hammer-fist to catch the chin? Just interested in your thoughts on those. :)
I must have never been taught a traditional spinning fist, because my elbow is up and I still hit with my knuckles. I don’t know if I have ever seen a knock out with a spinning hammer fist, but I will start looking. I know I have seen many knockouts with a spinning back fist. I have never seen an elbow down spinning back fist that I remember.
kwonkicker will do.
Its legal in kickboxing K-1? Btw good video keep going
Strategies of fights pls!
Great video! Quick question for Micah: how come you're pivoting your back foot FIRST before you step with your front foot to spin?
(Not a criticism, I'm genuinely curious. Doesn't seem that it would be necessary, since--if you're on the balls of your feet--it's gonna pivot naturally anyway. Maybe to protect the knee on a sticky surface, like a grappling mat?)
100% to protect the knee, you are correct. See anderson Silva knee injury
Flying knee pls
Watch remy bonjasky
I can just tell you from experience try to practice jumping with both knees then you want to try a flying knee with your favorite kicking leg and learn how to target where you want to throw the knee for a devasting flying knee.
Shane! What do you think of Sho ryn ru karate!? I think it no work
What do you think of Goju Ryu karate and its practicality?
Max The Jackrabbit it’s quite effective but it all depends on the practitioner personally I’d take up another martial arts like Bjj
I also do BJJ, and we have a striking class on Wednesday, so I have all bases covered. Ive been doing karate for six years so far, and I believe it’s quite effective but like you said it’s down to the dojo and the individual.
Mkay
There's a lot of videos on how to throw a spinning backfist but can't find any on how to counter or defend a spinning backfist.
Mixing my back-kick with my backfist works like a charm, they see me spin thinking the backfist is coming and raise their guard just get my foot right the ribs or vice versa.
Or they step in and go for a clinch or takedown while your spinning like a beyblade.
Beepist5000 oh not your ass again
Is it just me or its even saver to over-extend arm when missing with this variation of technique?
I have never used a backfist, only hammerfist. I learned the hard way the first day we learned the spinning hammerfist how important the bend in the elbow is. I had my arm straight and hyperatended my elbow. Took me out of training for a couple months.
How plus is this on block?
Can anyone help me my elbow clicks everytime I throw a jab or even extend my left arm. It's not painful but it's uncomfortable to the point where it's putting me off from practicing. Any tips on causes/solutions would be v appreciated
Teach for the flying knee plz.
SHADOW The first Kwonkicker has a tutorial video for the flying knee.
Watch Remy Bonjasky
what are the counters?
Genki Sudo was a master at this.
What do you guys think about the effectiveness of hammerfists coming down inward on a 45 degree angle? Hammerfists from from a shield/covered up position. You rarely see standing hammerfists in MMA.
what do you mean ?
Santino marella cobra next please
Did this move in a bar-fight once, let’s just say the other guy had a bad day. No-one expects it.
Understand he's speaking in reference to having Boxing gloves (or for and kick boxing). Different story when street or mma fighting.
Sold.
Hammer fist it is.
Good vid.
Because it sounds like a better combo move
Have any of you watched the video where Bas Rutten clothesline to the neck?
You probably won’t get a metacarpal break from a spinning backlist because the knuckles, connective tissue/flesh and muscle will help absorb the strike. I’m pretty confident that if I were to go spinning hammer fist a tree a few dozen times, I’d be ok. With normal punches, you put direct pressure on the bone and I could see how you could break the metacarpal bones.
What is more powerful in your opinion: stepping side kick or spinning back/side kick?
Assuming perfect form, I'd say spinning
Definitely spinning because you’re usually stepping into a spinning side/back kick. Unless you’re throwing it Uriah hall style where he jumps up in the air
@@chrissimon3790 And regular spinning back/side kick or with additional step, launching from southpaw position? You know, that one popularized by Cung Le and Rogan
💥
The one danger with a spinning hammer fist is if you land it just a little bit too deep, you strike on the ulna at it's weakest point (it's a stick-fighting target for a reason.) Less of an issue with boxing gloves on than bare knuckle.
Shane, when are you going to sell your boxing gloves again?
In mma where you have barely any padding on the top of the fist or in fights without gloves it's actually safer to use hammers - there's no way to avoid some injury to your tendons and veins without a solid protection of that part of your hand. And tendon injuries are the worst, I'd rather have a broken bone :v

that's considered open glove tho... any thoughts?!
Why does Kwon Kicker look like a badass seananners?
Why did kwonkicker take all of his tutorials down?
Who is he?
Ahh the spinning hammerfist , in Yaw Yan we call it the Roskas . We have move that we can do the Roskas in both sides
I mostly agree, but you can do the backfist the same way you do the hammerfist, with ellbow up.
Edit: just tested it quickly, you can do them both in the exact same way, only difference is your fist is turned 90°
A better video would be when to do this technique, how to time it, and how to do it with out telegraph, feints and such
good idea when will it be up
Only thing about spinning hammer fist is if it lands wrong and your wrist lands it fuckin kills your wrist way more than if the spinning back fist lands wrong
But don’t pull a PVZ and break your arm
Ha I was gonna comment that! This attack might be more powerful but probably with a higher chance to break ur bones lol
3:07 of course you are covered ...
Its similar to the philly shell, in a way.
Cung Lee said it was better.
I used it and I can say it is better than backfist too.
I practice karate and i never did my spinning back fist like that, it is more like his Hammer fist
Lol why r the clocks 1 hour forward
Cuz its always time to kill
Anyone else here just to learn how to do the hammer fist and back fist
🔨
Why don't you see a lot of Spinning Hammers in Muay Thai? Is it illegal?
I disagree, don't think it's a good idea to hit a skull with your little finger. But It's cool to know more about it.
Gloves.
I M hit much harder with hammer fists than with backhands. I think it's even safer without gloves as you don't risk your joints compared to backhands.
1
Last
Zhang Weili proved the effectiveness of this technique in the second fight with Joanna but everyone called it a back fist, lol
its physiologically better, doesn't expose the vulnerable backside of the hand and translates way bette rinto self defense and tool use.
Why can't they be done the same way, and why is the hammer fist stronger theirs less surface area to hit.
The less surface area the more you maximize force. It's the same concept as if you were to kick with the point of a boot or the top of the foot. You have (roughly) the same amount of energy moving towards the target and then you focus it on a smaller point to maximize the damage.
Your point is valid, but I'm my opinion this video was horribly made because they bashed on a technique without knowing the right facts. Example they said you are more likely to break your hand doing a spinning back fist which is not true it's the other way around because a spinning back fist has more bones to brace it instead of just the pinky bones. At the end of the day there is no wrong answer though it's like debating about religion no one is right they both work I just don't like how he slandered the spinning back fist.
If you get in a fight with someone hopping out the car just wait till they open the door and step out and drop one on their head like you playin whack a mole and they will get back in their car real quick
Better yet wait til the open their door, then when they put a leg to step out. Charge at the door hard af and the door will snap their leg bone clean
Redfrog101 woah take it easy there cowboy
It's not as good as the spinning headbutt
I don't like turn my back
No offence, but this might be the most unnecessary video on this great channel unless I am mistaken. I have never seen anyone throw what he is calling a spinning back fight but due to my karate background, I would call a spinning back knuckle. Every time I have seen someone throw it they throw what he calls a spinning hammerfist or what I would call a spinning back knuckle.
You can tell why that other guy started MMA
But aren’t those illegal?
I thought this was just common sense... I guess common sense is a luxury not many can afford these days
I thought this too and almost skipped the video but what he said about the elbow being up and the fightip to keep the hands tight was worth the time.
Watched on speed x2
I used to think that too, but many moons ago I was doing a breakdown on this technique and got ridiculed for the same basic opinions (minus the poofy gloves as we were speaking strictly bare fist or mma gloves). *shrugs* we all have our opinions. :)
Paige van zant broke her wrist doing this same thing
just stop overthinking
Spinning hammer or fist are great tools to choose from.
I spin without the step to the side and let my feet follow.
I find this to be least detected and defended against.
Accuracy is critical and a miss should be anticipated rather than contact.
The other way around and you will be out of form.
Practice decreases misses.
Very few men can take the full impact force to the head.
I'm more concerned about killing someone than knocking them out.
This method is not new but rather a ritualistic duel often times ending in death to one or both the fighters. And they do not spar;. They actually trade blows.
If they flinch or duck they lose by default.
Have used this and basically this method all my life and it's rarely seen anywhere but in Asian defensive art forms so; it is named thus. However; this form of fighting came before clubs or spears.
The desert Chinese and coastal Eskimo Indians have use their limbs as weapons when only their bodies and limbs were available.
The spinning hammer fist will crush a man's skull if there is a tree or wall on the other side.
I hit steel plates with my bare closed hand or fist and so hitting a human head or torso is like striking a pillow with a bone in it. Your focus should be on the bone inside the pillow.
Missing and hitting a wall or tree should be prepared for and should be struck at full force. Never pull back or pull up short.
If you break your hand; leave the area.
So; never anticipate impact is critical. And killing someone is highly probable.
The intent of the ritual duel was to kill or mame the opponent. without a weapon or defensive tactics.
you ok dude?
Reallife animation cancelling, now ive seen everything.
Now couldent you do your spinning backfist with the same technique as the hammer fist but just rotate your wrist? So that it would be a spinning back fist?
