Mikes reactions are always seem genuine and honest. When he does get excited about a dish it doesn’t come across as exaggerated or contrived rather just pure hoy and contentment - a truly vicarious experience.

Great narration Mike, keep up the great videos. You positively express your flavour likes and dislikes providing honest opinions on the food you taste. I have watched other videos but they do not come close to yours as you tell it like it is. Well done!

Layzee Nguyen - Yep. Pple who like hot food really live for that sensation. My grandpa, a Tennesean, put hot sauce on everything he ate. He just shook it across his plate: the veggies, starches, meats and beans. Only his drink and dessert remained unscathed.

So glad you enjoyed the food in Tainan. As a local here in Tainan, the lamb place you tried is good but it isn’t the best place I would recommend to my friends. The best place to have lamb soup in Tainan is called 包成羊肉. This place will blow your mind. They open at around 5am and the food is often sold out at around 9am. That’s how good it is. And right next to 包成羊肉, there’s a place that sells milkfish soup called 阿堂鹹粥, which is also really popular here. Another place to have Tainan style beef hot pot is called 劉家莊. Best beef hot pot ever! Definitely try their beef meatballs. If you ever come back to Tainan, you could try these places. I promise you won’t regret it.

OK the best fatty pork rice in Taiwan is in Taipei at this hole in the wall place called jingfeng minced pork or 金峰魯肉飯. The line is around the corner from 9 AM till 10 PM. It's near the Taipei train station. Literally people are waiting next to your table to get a seat. My hotel was near by I waited three days before finally the line died down to only 15 people at 10 pm while it was raining. Very small menu and everyone gets the pork rice than the butter Mellon rib soup. There is another place with similar name this one is the best. They have the mince meat noodles.

You must have done some decent research, or some local citizens must have been your guides to show you all these places where I actually dine regularly. These places are no random food stands or restaurants. Too bad you missed the beaf-soup breakfast. You'll definitely have to sample it next time when you come to visit here again. BTW, please do put Tainan on your wish list of moving to and getting settled in Taiwan.

Enlightened by the eel. Love em myself. About the Lamb. My family is from a lamb based culture. We just salted them up threw them on the spit. What people call gamey is the character of that meat. You can either eat bland all your life or immerse your self in the flavors. Mikey knows what I mean.

I really don't understand when he says 'this lamb isn't gamey'. Apart from the fact that lamb isn't game, and therefore can't be 'gamey', what he seems to be describing is just the delicious flavour of lamb. If you don't like the taste of lamb, why eat lamb? If I order lamb and I can't tell that it's lamb then I would send it back.
Americans are so weird when it comes to food.

Patavinity I'm from New Zealand and we often find visitors think that our lamb has a strong flavour and smell when cooking. I think that is what Mike meant. It's quite amazing the difference in taste of meat in different countries. It all depends on what the animal itself eats and the breed of lamb, beef, pork etc.

Gamey: Having a strong odor or taste of Game meat
It doesn't mean it has to be "Game" but what it does mean is that it has a similar flavor to it. While it isn't really easy to describe, most of the time when people describe food as "gamey" they mean the food has distinctive "wildness" to it or lot less mild tasting than what they are used to. I've also heard people describe Gamey" taste as almost like the way Liver or blood tastes.
Plus, the whole "gamey" taste thing isn't just an American thing, it's used all around the world to describe how certain meat tastes and it isn't actually a negative thing, because some people like that flavor.
We all have different tastes and expectations, so it I don't think it makes us weird or bad.

Violet Verdict Yes, I'm perfectly familiar with the word. My point is that it's used incorrectly here and demonstrates poor taste. You get it now, or are you such a moron that I have to spell it out even further?

I am from Taiwan and it is true that Taiwanese don't like strong taste or heavy sauces. I personally also don't like those. We believe less messing around with the ingredients and let them show you their real base flavor is the best. However if you are leaning towards heavy taste then Taiwanese foods do require training your taste buds to foods natural, original flavor.
