I said 'theoretically' but spelled it as 'theoretical' in the video. I will now give up all my worldly possessions and retreat into the mountains to reflect upon this grievous transgression.
Honestly, my up-too-damn-early, inferior Se brain did not even notice. Are you sure it wasn't a test of observational skills? Theoretically, I'd imagine ISTPs would be more likely to notice such things.
It is a tricky one indeed, our need to express and convey information as accurate as possible can come off very J-like. But is has all to do with the fact that context is emperor in INTP land, and if people don't understand the premises ( context) the way you want they start from a different context and the end result of their reasoning can also differ from yours. It's always stressful, since if they start from a wrong context they might miss the point you are trying to make. Hmm interesting I just thought . . Maybe it comes from our inferior function? The need to help others (understand) ? . . Enough rattling
I’m an INTP and my twin brother is an ISTP, so I asked him “What’s the main difference between us?” So we both considered it. I thought over our cognitive differences, but he only replied with “Gender” (I’m a girl) so that was not very helpful.
Same, here I am, questioning if I'm an intp again despite of having everything in common with the intp description and having taken the test at least twice :v
Comparing the test I took in 2003 to the test I took recently in 2021, and watching this video, it seems to be that with age I have shifted from INTP to ISTP. I've learnt to let go a bit as I got older ......
I’m an ISTP and I approve of this message. The Se version of “I wonder what would happen if. . .” Is “I wonder what happens when I do this!” Or “I wonder how . . .”
To be honest I envy ISTPs for being action-oriented. Considering all the ways I could do or solve something is fun and enjoyable but it gets in the way of actually doing it sometimes.
Taking Adderall as an INTP is the solution for you. ISTP execution and INTP detail-oriented thought processing. Adderall as an INTP is literally just god mode. I legitimately think that it's just a grand exploit in the game of life that the devs forgot to patch.
I thought I was INTP for the longest time, but actually I was ISTP and neglecting my Se. I took a hard look at what things made me feel the most satisfied, and I realized that endless theorizing just made me feel trapped in my own head and unable to properly exist, while creating tangible things in the world (drawing, calligraphy, cooking, etc.) with increasingly developed skill is something I could do the rest of my life and not feel like it was a waste. I can hang around for theories and abstract philosophical debates, but once it gets off the topic I came there for, I lose patience pretty quickly and just start nodding along instead of engaging. Eventually, I get into "So what?" territory. I've also always been known as a direct and literal type of person who doesn't take bullshit, and that includes some INTP bullshit as well. But starting and abandoning projects quickly is something both types do a lot, and the Ti-Fe conflict is also the same. Just those two things account for the majority of relatable IxTP memes, honestly, and it probably throws a lot of people off. But are the projects being abandoned because there's just too many of them, and a new one is always going to come along (Ne), or is it because the projects quickly become unstimulating and kind of pointless (Se)? It's a hard question. Looking at a type's weak spots is always going to be easier than looking at their strengths if you're not sure.
This is currently me right now, having failure to launch syndrome after a serious back injury and retreating into Ti where I feel confident. The most alive I feel is when I’m in a new environment and engaging in the physical world, but I’m also addicted to information and attempting to understand the world in an unbiased™ way. Do you have any recommendations for breaking out of it?
I know this was written a year ago, but very helpful. Every so often I go on a "what type am I, really?" bender. It's usually when I get stuck in my head from stress. I think a couple things you said, are key. I tend to do it when I'm stressed, and even then I still focus on endlessly researching topics (in this case, mbti) of some benefit to me or to answer some question. I still always get the occasional, "wouldn't it be cool if" moments, but they are in no way a "bombardment of ideas".
I can relate, endless overthinking hasn’t gotten me anything except anxiety and self doubt. I’ve always been interested in the “what ifs” and abstract mysteries of the universe while simultaneously neglecting school or my nonexistent social skills. But I also like being hands on and I find the most enjoyment in life out of doing physical things and seeing myself progress at a skill I previously sucked at. I enjoy motorcycles, skateboarding, playing guitar, but I’m bad at improvising and I need to take my time when making decisions to ensure that I make the right one. I struggle with my identity because I can’t really decipher my emotions effectively, I just try to look into my past and figure out who I am based on decisions I’ve made or how I have behaved. I’ve dealt with social anxiety my entire life, even struggling to be myself around family members and close friends because I don’t know how to be myself essentially. I took my first personality test in 9th grade and it said I was an INTP, and every one that I’ve taken after that has shown the same result, but I definitely have ISTP tendencies in how I like interacting with the physical world or how I can grow tired of pointless theoretical pondering. I really wasn’t planning on typing this much but yeah, I feel u
I was pretty sure I'm an ISTP when I noticed that I often say "let's work with what we've got" and "there's no point in overthinking what would have been if you acted in a different way". I have trouble with predicting future events and possibilities, so I tend to delay decisions to avoid unexpected turn of events, I like to have all possibilities open until I have enough data.
ISTP here. What’s weird is that when I get very stressed, my observation skills become much higher and I end up using those observations to predict future events and possibilities(mostly short term). When that happens people start thinking I can see the future when I really can’t.
As an Ni user , I like to asked my ISTP friend „what if „ questions , he is like always freaking out and said he don’t know and he only knows when the thing actually happened, and I was unhappy I thought he just didn’t want to give me the answer. How could he don’t know? it’s not understandable for me. Later on when I know him better I realized when I say what-if, it’s only a imagination, and when my ISTP say it , he means RRRRREAL.
Round ones are better than square ones due to stress concentration? Just like aircraft doors are rounded rectangles instead of just sharp rectangles, if that's not the case, there would be issues when the aircraft is pressurised. But can we relate the same concept to manhole covers? Is there a better way to think of this? Edit: found the answers in other comments.
@@farizanroslan I figured it was better to have round *covers* because the holes themselves were round. I thought they were trying to trick me with semantics. (ENFP here)
@@user-ud9xc1hr3g I went the economic and danger route. You could hurt your head on the corner of the cover (lawsuit incoming) and less surface area so its cheaper
The second one. The man is seen by the driver because he is holding a flashlight! Its not mentioned, but if the street is black then he needs a flashlight. Or if not then he must be a low key drug dealer, the driver knew he was there in the first place because he is his client!
@@Rofaidah oh ,i don't know ,i'm still confused Like it depends on my mood , sometimes i'm an istp ,being energic and stick to the plan, but sometimes my brain is just lazy and thinking
I am an INTP, and I train horses as my living. It shocks other people, but training horses is like one giant, never ending puzzle. And the same solution won't work on every horse.
Just proves again that it's all about that puzzle for us, which kind of puzzle matters less, and is dependent on the person, the situation, the time, .. Our virtue is attentiveness, so whatever can peak our interest we shower in it.
I’m an ISTP and I train horses for a living. 😁 I have an ENTP trainer friend who says she does what she does because it’s not something easy that you can automatically get right because you have the formula for it. It keeps her attention enough for her to want to do it for a long period of time, so I can definitely see how something physical can still be an attractive playground for Ne. Both Ne and Se like the “you can’t read this in a book,” element.
Yes! I study psychology and I am currently part of project on psychic constitution, so basically we study babies. Babies are such a complex puzzle, and because they are in the primal stage of language development, each of them has their own specific way of comunication. Also they are so cute. I'm an INFJ, so it satisfies both my Ti and my Fe.
@@RC--tw7em Because the INTP would break their arms shooting a gun. Can't have 'em without shooting 'em. Actually... can't have them altogether in Europe
I feel the need to point out that Virgin is smarter than Chad, and will get better grades and a higher-paying job. Also, Chad's gonna get STDs. Also, it's not black-and-white, these things fluctuate and are situational. Ne comes in bursts (for me at least), and when it does I get to be more or less entp. Just understand that it's all ephemeral, and it doesn't matter what others think because they aren't you and they don't know what you know.
“I have to see it for myself” Oh man, my dad is ISTP. We took him on a mountain hike and told him there were marmots on the trail, but we didn’t see any for a half hour. He declared that since we claimed they were “all over the place” and clearly they were not, it was all a lie to get him to hike uphill. The more my INFP husband insisted there were marmots, the more my dad resisted and said we made it up until INFP couldn’t tell if he was serious and nearly lost it at being called a liar. 😆 Love how ISTP uses logic to screw with people.
*INTP:* Psychic-type who has big battles with (INTJ?) to save some distant, but important realm... but they're all off-screen. *ISTP:* Anti-Hero who only appears in a few scenes, only to show up and save the protagonist at the last moment, defeating the antagonist with a single, unstoppable attack fueled by pure _Yare Yare_ energy.
I'm INTP but for taking action I've learned that I'll never be able to think through things enough so I've been forcing myself to just show up for things without a plan and it has been working very well. It's a bizarre feeling to come to new conclusions halfway through giving a presentation-- (deleting my long written analysis of 'why' for that last part because I felt satisfied enough with the thoughts lol)
I do this too! Tossing the perfectionism away when you realize what you've crafted isn't sufficient and you need to give that presentation or speech NOW, then coming to a realization halfway through... and talking through it as though you walked into the room with those conclusions. 😂 Thing is, if we can get ourselves to just go for it, we're probably excellent at getting it done, simply because we've researched so many topics that are loosely connected to the subject at hand, that the conclusions we come to while speaking to a crowd might actually be viewed as solid conclusions/ideas and well thought out reasoning.
So that’s why my two ISTP friends (probably the only two friends) choose engineering as their major while I (INTP) choose chemistry right? I actually like to study the theories behind things that could be applied to somewhere, but find the idea of aiming to make an “actual” product so annoying! I just love the mechanisms of how things react themselves, instead of turning those into pills or perfumes, etc.
@@jayasri6764 Another INTP studying chemistry here and I actually chose physical chemistry precisely because it makes sense in an entirely different way than organic chemistry. Org chem does involve a lot of logical mechanisms and reaction paths but for me personally it's kind of... too logical in a way? While physical chemistry is more math based and offers me a more mathematical approach in analysis and problem solving. On the other hand, I love inorganic chemistry to death lol. There's something inspiring and beautiful in the way we try to describe what happens with logical rules and descriptions - and there will always be those elements and compounds that won't follow them! And whether or not they follow them, it's really interesting to deep dive into the reasons why they do or don't.
Being cared for by an ISTP: - I stopped by to drop off the letters at your place and have a pee while you were away. So now your door lock, toilet lights and entire house plumbing is fixed. You are welcone. Being cared for by an INTP: - Thanks for dropping by at my place. I have figured out 5 different solutions of what you can do to fix that issue of yours. And now I'm going to put you to sleep. You are welcome.
As an ISTP, I know there's a time for planning and a time for action. It's usually dependent on the situation as to whether you stop and plan things out or figure it out as you go. But If you plan for too long you tend to flip flop, take no action, or worse yet miss an opportunity that could have been useful. If you go in with no plan guns blazing, you might fail at whatever you were wanting to do but you at least did something and learned from it!
As an ISTP, the reality is that I can't plan for shit, I get bored so quickly with it. Unless it is something practical like what to pack for a hike or something or what tools to take for a repair job. I usually figure I can successfully improvise in most situations.
It's quite common for ISTPs to mistype as INTJs as ISTP could fit the description of it. When it comes to planning for ISTPs, we often get stuck in a Ti-Ni loop as we like to envision what we will be like maybe 5-10 years down the line
When you put up the slide showing ways INTPs start sentences, I recognized them all immediately as very common for my INTP daughter to say. You nailed it.
Answer to the puzzle : 1:46 1. Don't know and care 2. it never specified it was night time And the driver saw him so it was day time ( oh and street lamps stay off at day time, that's another reason ) ~ ISTP
You might think that, until you meet one like my brother and realize they’re a bit maniacal, especially with that Ni on full blast. My brother could talk about the long-term consequences of packaging cereal boxes in rectangular form for hours without taking a single breath.
Two istp videos in a row! 5:29 I still definitely agree with this. I try to get as much information on things as I can and leave my options open for as long as possible, though I do make spontaneous decisions if I feel like I know enough. 5:54 it's usually a mixture of both for me I can make quick decisions but I'll second guess them pretty often and sometimes I completely change my course of action while executing it, or I'll think about it for way too long without actually doing anything I'm pretty quick to change my opinion on things too There have been times where I have gone down wikipedia rabbit holes for no reason other than curiosity 😂 I really enjoy philosophy because it gives you alternate ways of thinking Other than these the points were spot on as usual! Still found the puzzles fun to solve: 1. The cover can fit the manhole in any orientation 2. It's daytime
idk if it's dumb+lazy or just dumb but i thought quickly of "he screams black" and start laughing at my dumb joke and some more dumb stuff that i better keep to myself , but I was to unbothered to answer it , and triggered by the long question so i skipped the description , so does that mean i am a dumb istp? oh i didn't even try with the first question tho lol
@Can Tin hahah...yeah I’m not really sure what I am so I’m doing some research well I haven’t started since the semester is almost over and I procrastinated throughout the whole thing so I’m finishing about 7-8 weeks of work but it isn’t that bad I’m getting it done really fast so I’ll probably pass
I'm mainly ISTP but sometimes I feel like INTP and INTJ too. I love learning theories and it would be a lot better if those theories are applied to the real world. It's really fun testing those theories immediately if I have the opportunity. But if I don't have access to a manual or a reading material that contains the instructions or overall design, tinkering is always fine by me. I am also confident with my knowledge and I can be intuitive too despite my MBTI says I'm an S. I guess that's my 58% observant 42% intuitive talking. Usually, when I was in school, I don't always pay attention to the instructors and just solve the written problems as they go. Of course, the instructor will also have to demonstrate how to solve those problems and by that, it'll just verify whether the work I've done secretly is correct or not. I am 51% prospecting and 49% judging. Schedules don't really bother me really much and I'm pretty much cool with it and I can attain perfect attendance. I can be very spontaneous when I do feel like it. Also, I am fascinated with statistics. Though, I use it to solve problems which somewhat confirms my ISTP type. I also feel that that ISTP is pushing the idea that I am action-oriented in terms of concreteness. But actually, I can use concreteness and abstractness to solve problems. And also seeing the puzzle you showed in the video, I love solving riddles and puzzles in my free time. I felt I was the only one who is on to those. Thank God there’s the internet where I can just solve puzzles with strangers and discussing various ways of solving those problems. I also get that I’m too calculating a lot which people think I’m doing unnecessary work. I guess that is my tinge of INTJ. For some reason, when all the tasks are finished there’s a lot of time to do something geeky or nerdy. Perhaps collecting data from an idle game I’m playing and predicting when certain characters reach a level; predicting how much resources I could accumulate in that point of time - and with these data, it is shared to a fandom wiki or discord server for nerds to enjoy. I guess the game good as it is tagged ‘strategy game’ then. LOL.
My answers to the puzzles at 1:45 1. Having round manholes is sufficient in saving resources as a square manhole would require more resources than a round manhole. In a way, it's literally cutting corners. 2. There is no such 'true black' clothing. The dye used in most of the clothing stated is not pure black and can still reflect light. Not only that, the exposed skin of the man that hasn't been covered up would reflect the light.
I have got a better solution for no. 2 The driver saw the man because it was daytime. It doesn't matter if you're wearing black and surrounded by everything black, if the sky is bright it will give you a stark contrast to the environment. Conversely, it will make you even more distinct. So, yeah there you go.
Thank you for making this video. The confusion for me was that I was always intellectualizing everything around me, but it was always done with the idea of using those concepts to master the world around me. I would rarely engage in intellectualizing for its own sake.
@@agilachmadkurniawan5955 I'm not certain, but I think I'm an ISTP. I think this because of my tendency to get caught up in the moment when I'm doing something physical, and my love of doing something that requires high physical skill. My intellectual theorizing is usually done by myself. I don't make a habit of doing it openly. It is usually done with the purpose of trying to create an all encompassing concept of my observations. Hope this helps.
@@VTdarkangel thank you for saying this i was actually in an ISTP vs INTP fight with my self , because i think whats is 100% but i would still give a small look at what if so i wouldn't fall into error , i use the 'what if" as a small plus of assurance of my based of facts theory but not as the truth but as an "I'm ready for whatever it is because even if im wrong it wont hurt me ,but if i am right it will benefit me . But i feel that it's kinda weak because i dont usually use it , it's i use it in existence questions but in studying ....no lol im stubborn who will be wrong until proved ...wrong and bam it hurts lol.
The answers (that make the most sense to me- INTP-T) to the puzzles at 1:45 1) The square is generally weaker in the corners. Any pressure applied would have an amplified effect if applied in the corners. You can see the same design when it comes to airplanes and their oval-ish windows with rounded corners- it's meant to even out the pressure. 2) It's bloody daytime.
@1:46 1) maybe because circle requires less material than square. Also, edges of squares are where pressure accumulates, leading to higher frequency of road repair. 2) the street name is "black street". there's no such thing as a street of black color. also this definitely happened at daytime
I've already subscribed ages ago xD I've spent long time wondering which one I am, but the thing that cut the deal for me in the end was that I NEED to take action, move, do something, just sitting make me a bit depressed and really lazy towards anything else. I do need precision, very much, but at the end I need to take an action, a precise one! In your video, it's true, I rarely think of possibilities, it'd be fun to engage in a chat over it, but never on my own. Plus, I enjoy puzzles but often get bored with them quickly enough to drop them if they lack full inputs. Btw, Thanks for the new ISTP video!
As an INFP I'm more like the ISTP in the sense I have more attention to detail but struggle with taking as much action as an INTP. This is why I'm better at leading someone who takes the action and I give them a wider vision. Then I break the vision down into goals and tactics for them to put all of their energy into. Under Human Design I'm a projector too who are classed as non-energy types which means we have less energy than most people on the planet. We are often seen as lazy because it looks like we take too many breaks and procrastinate but that's part of our genius. When we're "procrastinating" we're actually refueling ourselves with content to inspire us. Even though we do less, we can achieve a lot over time. Have you looked into Human Design yet? 😃
You must be a mind-reader! I discovered your videos yesterday and was thinking about this after seeing your INFP vs INTP video! Thank you for the glorious content!
I’m so INTP that I have a painting I started 4 or 5 years ago, and it’s still only about 2/3 finished. I also have another painting I started this year that’s in a similar state, and I’m trying to seriously write a book that I’ve been casually working on for years, while also developing a new story idea that I came up with recently. I have a book full of other half-developed ideas that came about in the same way. I am a disappointment to myself. Once I finish my other commitments, I’m really going to have to knuckle down and just force myself to finish something.
Leonardo Da Vinci worked on the Mona Lisa for 16 years so it's all good. Some people just work the way you and he did, working on multiple projects over long periods of time and jumping between them all ~ Nathan
Love Who You’ve definitely made me feel slightly less guilty 😂. So you’re saying that there’s a chance my perpetually unfinished Doctor Who painting will end up in The Louvre one day...
@@MouthwashTyphoon I wouldn't bet against it but many of Leo's projects and attempts at things failed as well - the fact that he was involved in so many different things meant he could cross pollinate ideas ~ Nathan
I had the same issue with my writing until I started writing with a friend: tons of ideas, a boiling mind and a great deal of frustration. Then my INTJ best friend became my partner and we finished our first book in 2018, currently writing the second one. So my advise is: find someone you can work with and want to write for :)
"Seeing the connections of the seemingly unrelated things.." I do this all the time. And some "INTP" (1 person) thinks I'm a INFJ because he thinks I go into "aha" when there seems to be no connection at all. While when the same convo happened with a bunch of ISTPs months ago where I seemingly "added something that wasn't there", one of them said, "F##king intuitive keep seeing shit that isn't there!"
I consistently score just slightly more toward INTP, but I definitely see myself vacillating between the two. I am both the thinker and the fixer and enjoy both immensely.
I'm INTJ and my favourite type is all of them because it's about the value that you are able to extract out of someone. Actually who am I kidding, I hate all of you. (Just an immature stereotypical INTJ joke answer)
Yea i'm intp as well and pretty much only istps are attractive to me... It does bring some complications in the relationships though, but I couldnt see myself with a different type 🤔 For friends I prefer intj. Their bitterness is soothing 😂
I guess, I fall somewhere between INTP and ISTP. I do consider different perspectives and am quite open to new incoming information, figuring out how they fit in with my existing internal framework and modifying it if necessary. However, I also don’t ponder that long enough to fall into analysis paralysis. I often try out new things and learn from my unexpected mistakes.
Ugh this is killing me. Historically (from like 18-24 or so) I was always scoring as INTP. Since some time around 25-26 I’m pretty consistently ISTP. I really don’t know what the hell I am. Abstract thinking can be cool and stimulating, but I question whether I’m INTP because my tolerance for frustration from abstract things and puzzles is low. I have ADHD and chronic depression and don’t know how much of my frustration and intolerance stems from those things or because I’m just not an INTP. I don’t have a nonstop flurry of ideas, but I do think of things here and there and I do have the typical ADHD issue of wanting to do something novel, maybe starting it and then falling off shortly thereafter when my mood changes or I hit a wall or it loses its luster. Sometimes I stick longer. Then on the ISTP front I read so much about them being all hands on, liking to make shit, take shit apart, be mechanics and shit. I do have some level of interest in understanding how things work but I’m not a hands on tinkerer really. The only thing in my life that kinda fits the bill is that I’m an IT/help desk/computer building gamer type. I’m very much not an action oriented type. I struggle with laziness and the aforementioned ADHD/depression. I like reading about history and science. I write well and enjoy debating (online where I can better formulate my thoughts and fact check myself and others) those things as well as other things I’m interested in or care about like games, some movies, religion and politics. What the hell am I? lol
That video was really good. It's nice that you pay attention to PoLR functions - it's actually the best way to tell the difference between certain types, but most people seem to reject it, bc it's "aaagh, socionics...!". You're doing a great job and your videos are always very accurate. We need more youtubers like you❤
Thank you very much! The concept of the PoLR function has always seemed to be accurate to me even though we have to blend differing typing systems sometimes which is dangerous! ~ Nathan
Can you imagine the struggle of writing the comment, then some new idea kicks in, and you delete the sentence, and write, and delete, and finally post, read it and: - Where the hell is "edit" button? In the end you're just delete your comment realizing, it's just a pile of unreadable crap, no one going to read, thus no one would appreciate. So instead of writing comments, I just imagine what impact on humanity would harness of fusion reaction do. Yep, I've edited this comment xD
I'm in a weird half way point between istp and intp (which I actually got 49/51 on s/n on the 16 personalities test) but the more I look into it and do actual research, the more I think I'm starting to turn into an ISTP because I haven't been accomplishing much for long time and I'm coming out of a weird time in my life where things are seriously changing in brain land. Just trying to actually start building instead of creating mental systems in my head for things I want to create or understand. Which I would have already if I had the freakin time
Thanks for this insightful video. I used to always type as ISTP, but recently started also typing as INTP sometimes, so started questioning which one I am. But now I think I’m leaning more towards ISTP.
I’m an INTP or ISTP depending on the situation. INTP because: - I think about a lot of possibilities and come up with theories I never test. - Enjoy puzzles. - Am usually lazy af. - Think too much before making a decision. - Don’t like hands-on work. - Act like a robot. ISTP because: - I like going biking and programming robots. - Like to travel whenever possible and do things spontaneously. - Love the idea of climbing the highest mountain in every country in the world. - Like to dive into work and just figure it out as I go as opposed to learning how to do it first. - Get straight to the point when conversing.
Love the video, and about what you said... One thing I observe a lot (being an ISTP) is that we're based on pure utilitarianism. Is it useful? No? Forget it. Is it useful, but just next year? FORGET IT. We'll do what is most important NOW, and then we will think about the other stuff. And that is in ALL aspect of our lives: love, friendship, work, creating/processing ideas, putting ideas on the real world, and especially, action. We won't leave our couch for some shit that it won't serve for anything than... a maybe hahahaha
BUT if we do leave the couch... Is also an action oriented, utilitarianism oriented: we don't like to waste our time on futile stuff, and therefore we like things well done or not done at all. In my country we have a saying: "the lazy one do it two times", but ISTP are the lazy ones who just do it one, for good, so that doesn't bothers us anymore (aaaand, so we could go back to our chouch :P)
1. Not sure of the technical term, but less corner stress, which is important for things that can have constant heavy traffic rolling over them. 2. It's daylight or didn't see the man but stopped at a red light anyway (doesn't say anything about traffic lights not working).
It would also take less effort to carry, it would also be easier to fit in a round one and it would be easier to cut things into a circle (probably). The second questions answer was probably traffic lights (Dark street with no light sources whatsoever). Or he had night vision, thermal or was a supernatural being.
I'm assuming that my grandpa migjt be an INTP or ISTP, but after watching this, I gravitate more towards ISTP. Also I realized that my INTP friend literally says the exact same things you mentioned in 6:23 all the time! Kind of mind blowing how accurate some aspects can be sometimes
My answers to the puzzles: Question 1- Man hole covers are round probably so that they can go back in place no matter how they are oriented. This would be especially important if, say, a car drove over it and dislodged the lid. If it were square, for example, it would be very unlikely to ever go back in place without an actual person performing the act. A round lid is incredibly more likely to work its way back in place. All that to say, I have lifted manhole lids and they are a bitch to dislodge and pick up, so this scenario seems unlikely in real life. Most importantly, but more boring, round can’t fall into the whole. Question 2- It’s daytime lol
I think I lean more towards intuitive since I feel my sensory is more weak. However I think I am passionate to see my creative vision come to life. I see the process as a cycle of generate "n" possibilities -> execute -> reflect -> repeat. If I don't do this I may end up depressed like when I was a kid where I spent too much time daydreaming and not engaging the real world.
I’m pretty sure I’m an INTP but started to doubt myself and started wondering if I’m actually an ISTP, thank you for the video! Now I have fewer doubts about being an INTP
I switched from ISTP to INTP. It is pretty balanced for the the S/N. This video helped. As I get older I can see how I lean more on thinking vs just jumping into things.
I am a female INTP, I used to date an ISTP. Initially, we did get along well, but then he started to be like I do too much thinking, calling me an overthinker. For me he was like very little emphatetic person, who tends not to see possible outcome of his actions in the future. Probably an intuitive type works for me better.
1:45 That second puzzle will require some thought. It's daytime. The street is black but that doesn't mean that it's dark out, which would be why the car had its lights off.
I figured it was better to have round manhole *covers* because the holes themselves were round. I thought they were trying to trick me with semantics. (ENFP)
I thought I was an istp that mistyped as intp, I could relate very much to both but not enough to identify with either. After playing around with the test I noticed the percentages of intuitive/sensing are pretty much 50/50 leaning slightly intuitive. "So this is the answer to all the riddles". Apparently I'm like the most perfectly balanced human . . . machine. Now if I could only learn how to deal with those pesky only-humans with all those . . . oh god . . . feelings . . . Late arrival here, love the way you communicate your depth of knowledge on this subject. Thank You!
The main advantage of a round manhole cover is that it can't be pushed through the opening to fall onto the person going down it into a sewer or similar. A square manhole cover could easily be manipulated into an orientation to fall down a square hole and injure someone (I had delete and retype my answer after realising it was incorrect). Square covers are better for accessing infrastructure immediately below the road where you don't need to climb down a ladder. We construct most things as squares and rectangles. Even cylindrical pipes that run horizontally will probably follow rectangular paths when viewed from above. As for spotting the man dressed in black (possibly approaching a manhole) is that in daylight they will stand out against the sky, and their eyes will also have white areas that will be visible. Also, black here is probably quite a fuzzy term that probably includes quite a lot of dark grey (and possibly, where non-priest socks are concerned very...very dark blue). These will have quite good contrast in daylight. It's probably good for the driver that the pedestrian was there, considering someone forgot to cordon off the open manhole, which is probably even less visible that a man dressed in all black. I just hope that after avoiding being run over, they also saw the open manhole and didn't fall down it.
In case you're wondering, I initially argued that the round manhole is easier to reseat, not requiring rotation. A nice side benefit. The manhole cover shouldn't be reseated while there is someone down there. Instead, the area around the open manhole should be cordoned off. They normally have those four sided red and white barriers to do that. I really should get some dinner rather than typing long comments to random youtube videos that I've paused part way along.
Unpaused the video, expecting you to say that ISTPs would prefer one of them and INTPs would prefer the other. Little did I know, I had fallen into a trap. A deep hole with no ladder and very little light at the bottom. My 16 personalities test I just did without overthinking had said was an ISTP, but was my ridiculously overthought one a few weeks ago, done on holiday abroad, because of course that's what you do on holiday, more accurate?
1:45 "Why is it better to have round manhole covers than square ones?" Answer from INTP-me: Because a square cover may be lifted on-edge (90-degrees); then, rotated on a vertical axis to a position over the manhole; and, dropped inside it! "A man is wearing black: shoes; socks; pants; jumper; and balaclava. He is walking down a black street with all the street lamps off. A black car is coming towards him, with its lights off; but, somehow manages to stop in time." How did the driver see the man? Answer: The driver missed him: what's the problem!
@@lovewho That’s me as an ISTP. I don’t know why ISTPs are seen as not wanting to explore ideas and possibilities... like I do but I need to see a purpose of doing that
Hmmmmm I always get typed as INTP but I think I dont fit it. Anyone have any advice? I think I get energy from being alone and being with a few people, so I could easily be an ENTP. I do have the debating part of an ENTP in me. As for the intuitive part, idk what counts as an intriguing thought, that's way too subjective. I dont believe things just because I feel bad, so I suppose I do categorize as a T. As for the perceiving part, I like to believe I'm actively trying to try to achieve my goals. I think people categorized with P are supposed to be ok with not trying. So I could be INTP ENTP INTJ ENTJ ISTP ESTP ISTJ ESTJ
Nate, I’m specifically asking you about this because I believe you’re a INTP. I’m struggling with figuring out my personality type. I’m confused between INTJ, INFJ, ISTJ, INTP. Initially, I was confused between INTJ and INTP because cognitively, I seem to fit INTJ, but because of Ti, I had some doubts. In addition, I am much like the stereotypical INTP. In pursuit of finding out who I am, I decided to analyze the types that have Ni and Ti as their main functions. I eventually found out that I may be either an ISTP or an INFJ. The problem is, I lack Se for ISTP and Fe for INFJ. I also have doubts about me being an INTJ, INTP, or INFJ, simply because these are rare types that tend to be intelligent and I don’t consider myself to be either special or intelligent. Can you help me?
Ok well we do officially type people (which you can find on our website - lovewhoworld.com) where we try to really get to know the person and narrow down their type! ~ Nathan
im intp and my bf is istp (ldr). i do have noticed that our relationship is quite different from the ones i usually see out there. in our first weeks together he messaged me pretty often, he was nice but i still felt he was "on guard" (me too haha). we didn't have endearments. we chatted as if we were just friends. only then i was "reminded" that he's actually my bf whenever he brings up the sexual flirting from time to time lol. after a while i noticed he didn't message often anymore and when i message him, he usually replies pretty late. those times were rough, i thought he prolly doesn't like me anymore so i gave up and we didn't talk for a month and a half. in those times i assumed that we already broke up so i went on with my life. then i was shocked when he suddenly messaged me one day and he said HE was surprised that i didnt message him for so long (i was like wtf). so yeah huge misunderstandings were cleared up from that moment and we got a bit closer now... and affectionate. (The reason why he didn't message me alot back then aside from personal space issues was because I told him a few times that I was busy in school so he took that as a signal that he shouldn't disturb me alot)
Brilliant!! 🖤 So, do you think an INTP and ISTP with fairly balanced iNtuition and Sensory functions (not compared to each other, but within their individual spectrum - ie: fairly balanced between Ni vs Ne, and same for Si vs Se) seem especially similar? And presumably, if one or the other of them were a jumper type, it would make that determination between the two types that much more challenging, I’m guessing? Mostly I’m just wondering if my question is inherently flawed/missing something obvious.
Yes I definitely think so, especially the OP types as you mentioned. Lead sleep ISTPs are going to come across a lot like INTPs in the standard cognitive functions since they'd be IxxP and NT ~ Nathan
@Hannah Mathilda that’s interesting! I wouldn’t have guessed that at all, what types of observations have come across this way? My surprise at this is mainly based on INTP and ISTP both leading with Ti (introverted thinking). Whereas INTJ leads with Ni (introverted intuition) and ISTJ leads with Si (introverted sensing), with neither having Fe or Ti. If anything I would have guessed them quite dissimilar- but then again, maybe the combination of functions and their “weight” manifest in traits that appear in everyday life as being similar to ITPs?
Everyone talks about how INTPs are terrible at relationships and ISTPs can do okay because they take charge so to speak. I have found the opposite to be true. My personality has changed gradually from ISTP to INTP. What I've realized is that now even though I am logic minded, I recognize the importance of emotion and thus now know better how to handle someone else's emotion. Talking to women is much easier then before because of this and I am now engaged.
INTP here- I appreciate how you thoroughly but concisely you communicate complex and original ideas. I paused at the riddles and I’m here to flex (yup, you called it). 1. (Quick, shallow answer) corners can be hazardous. Also, the circle is more efficient in terms of surface area (though I’d have to research to determine if this is a valid reason). 2. It was daytime. Ez clap😎 Rather than confirming my type (though that took a while) I’m here to understand how “Sensing” people operate. All the S people I know are morbidly fascinating- it’s like watching animal planet. I haven’t met an “S” who is even remotely interested in the hows/whys of the world. Like, if you ask them what they think of a movie, they’ll say “it was good.” If you asked them why they liked it, they’ll shrug. If you ask them a more open-ended question, like “tell me about this movie” they’ll give you a plot summary. Sometimes they might ask me the same question, but it’s more because they’re reciprocating (imo they approach relationships as surface-level transactions) not because they’re interested in what I actually think. Even if they make a sincere effort to understand the typical in-depth INTP response, their eyes glaze over and they just… can’t get it. They can be genuinely sweet, caring, generous people, but conversations are a HUGE drag. This is as true for “S” people with high IQ (3 “S” people I know are high-earning IT workers. Their careers demand complex critical thinking. Yet, they give off head-empty NPC vibes when it comes to anything abstract or speculative. But HOW is this possible? WHY are they like this???) The lack of understanding is a two-way street: I can NOT comprehend how someone can live like that. The difference is, I want to understand what makes them tick (and I’ll fly to the moon and back to find the answer) while they’re content to let it be. Tl;dr (but if an INTP is reading this, you probably didn’t skip to the end 😉) I’m watching this video, not to confirm I’m an INTP, but because ISTP isolates the variable I’m trying to study. I haven’t watched to the end yet, but thanks in advance for your insights.
Just finished the video and it did help. The following is pure speculation at this point. The ideas below need to be tested / refined, but they may be worth sharing anyway. Perhaps the “S” reduces (or can even eliminate) the gap between thought and action. Sensing types do whatever works in the moment and deal with the fallout later. So S operates in the present; they’re mostly concerned with the here and now. Ns can operate in the past/present/multiple possible futures. It seems “S”s and “N”s experience time (which is arguably THE most important aspect to our experience of life/reality) in fundamentally different ways. I don’t think I’m capable of fully appreciating the moment the way “S”s are; they may be equally incapable of being physically present and mentally gone (the default for most INs). I wonder if they feel lonely sharing space with someone totally absent, just like I feel lonely when they can’t seem to hear me, no matter how much I try to meet them at their level. Basically- ISTP: get The Thing done (the action hero example was perfect and ngl this is a respectable attitude) INTP: think about ALL the different ways to do The Thing, evaluate each option, and find the ONE that works (like Dr. Strange with the time stone in End Game). Present your idea to a (usually disinterested/dismissive) audience. Shrug and retreat to your room (for good this time. Seriously, why bother??) IMO on paper, ISTP > INTP because at least they’re out there getting stuff done 🤷🏽♀️
They can actually get by really well without much of a plan to be honest but I think they do best when they have goals and things to work towards ~ Nathan

Too many half finished projects. Great Evolution to undergo really, as i've done most of the thinking i can now get into the doing before i'm too old! And go ''Ahh i shoulda just done it.
The need to help others (understand) ? . .

Me too. I want to be an ISTP. Life is more fun as an ISTP compared to INTP like me.
Looking at a type's weak spots is always going to be easier than looking at their strengths if you're not sure.
tysm for your comment, it helped me a lot
I still always get the occasional, "wouldn't it be cool if" moments, but they are in no way a "bombardment of ideas".
i thought i was an ISTP for a bit but was mistyped

You might think that, until you meet one like my brother and realize they’re a bit maniacal, especially with that Ni on full blast. My brother could talk about the long-term consequences of packaging cereal boxes in rectangular form for hours without taking a single breath.
actually if you were to type with functions, INTJ’s would be balanced versions of INTPs and ISFPs due to Fi replacing Fe
Two istp videos in a row!
5:29 I still definitely agree with this. I try to get as much information on things as I can and leave my options open for as long as possible, though I do make spontaneous decisions if I feel like I know enough.
5:54 it's usually a mixture of both for me
I can make quick decisions but I'll second guess them pretty often and sometimes I completely change my course of action while executing it, or I'll think about it for way too long without actually doing anything
I'm pretty quick to change my opinion on things too
There have been times where I have gone down wikipedia rabbit holes for no reason other than curiosity 😂
I really enjoy philosophy because it gives you alternate ways of thinking
Other than these the points were spot on as usual!

1. The cover can fit the manhole in any orientation
2. It's daytime

ISTP - always need to be in action. Is that why im always impatient?
I can see ISTPs being impatient, especially if they think a person is waffling or unnecessarily getting in their way ~ Nathan
They reminds me of INTJ. But I would like to consider INTJs as ISTPs with a long range plan.
@@jrusstrevenant1092 Meanwhile... we ARE the plan
Basically, The P in INTP is Procrastination and the P in ISTP is Planned.
I plan out everything perfectly and then procrastinate 🧍
I think it means pigpen.
Haha perfect
I got ISTP and i'm a master of procrastination and improvising instead of planning, i think INTP are more likely to plan actually
how on earth do both of these equally apply to me i still cant figure out if im intp or istp...or maybe both? is that even possible?
samee
They are very different, istp's are more practical people unlike intp's.
Same.
you could be a IXTP? I honestly don't know which I am.
LOL.
I'm intp and my husband is istp. Personally, this is great for me because I come up with ideas and my husband really makes them come to fruition.
My answers to the puzzles at 1:45
The driver saw the man because it was daytime. It doesn't matter if you're wearing black and surrounded by everything black, if the sky is bright it will give you a stark contrast to the environment. Conversely, it will make you even more distinct. So, yeah there you go.
On retrospect, the street lamps likely wouldn't be off if it was night time so yeah another contributing factor

My intellectual theorizing is usually done by myself. I don't make a habit of doing it openly. It is usually done with the purpose of trying to create an all encompassing concept of my observations. The answers (that make the most sense to me- INTP-T) to the puzzles at 1:45
1) The square is generally weaker in the corners. Any pressure applied would have an amplified effect if applied in the corners. You can see the same design when it comes to airplanes and their oval-ish windows with rounded corners- it's meant to even out the pressure.
2) It's bloody daytime.
I'm INTP and I'm very much into thinking of the theoretical aspects of things or wishing I was Gandalf. LMAOOOO
Haha! "Wishing I was Gandalf" - this made me laugh ~ Nathan
yea gandalf is cool
I didnt even realise I had a Gandalf profile picture when I send this :p
@1:46
1) maybe because circle requires less material than square. Also, edges of squares are where pressure accumulates, leading to higher frequency of road repair.
2) the street name is "black street". there's no such thing as a street of black color. also this definitely happened at daytime
My main mentor is INTP and he’s the best! He has made a profound difference in my life!
I've already subscribed ages ago xD
I've spent long time wondering which one I am, but the thing that cut the deal for me in the end was that I NEED to take action, move, do something, just sitting make me a bit depressed and really lazy towards anything else.

Then my INTJ best friend became my partner and we finished our first book in 2018, currently writing the second one. So my advise is: find someone you can work with and want to write for :)

For friends I prefer intj. Their bitterness is soothing 😂
Oh yes, I’m an ESFP. Thank you for helping me to finally figure out my type. ❤️
Glad I could help, keep extraverting that sensing ~ Nathan
What the hell am I? lol
Sounds more like intp to me, though its hard to tell if its Ne or your ADHD. Also i wonder why you’re getting istp consistently now

INTP because:
- I think about a lot of possibilities and come up with theories I never test.
- Enjoy puzzles.
- Am usually lazy af.
- Think too much before making a decision.
- Don’t like hands-on work.
- Act like a robot.
ISTP because:
- I like going biking and programming robots.
- Like to travel whenever possible and do things spontaneously.
- Love the idea of climbing the highest mountain in every country in the world.
- Like to dive into work and just figure it out as I go as opposed to learning how to do it first.
- Get straight to the point when conversing.
Sounds like you're ENTP
@@dab0331 how do you figure that?
Also, a square cover can fall through the diagonal.
My answers to the puzzles:
Question 1- Man hole covers are round probably so that they can go back in place no matter how they are oriented.
So good, Nathan. Thank you for this ☺️ ~ intp

I think I lean more towards intuitive since I feel my sensory is more weak. However I think I am passionate to see my creative vision come to life. I see the process as a cycle of
generate "n" possibilities -> execute -> reflect -> repeat. If I don't do this I may end up depressed like when I was a kid where I spent too much time daydreaming and not engaging the real world.

For me he was like very little emphatetic person, who tends not to see possible outcome of his actions in the future. Probably an intuitive type works for me better.
Yeah for dating the explorer SP types are usually our worst match.
ISTP are great friends though
1:45 That second puzzle will require some thought.
It's daytime. The street is black but that doesn't mean that it's dark out, which would be why the car had its lights off.
1: so it can’t be dropped down the hole
2: it was daytime
I figured it was better to have round manhole *covers* because the holes themselves were round. I thought they were trying to trick me with semantics. (ENFP)
I thought I was an istp that mistyped as intp, I could relate very much to both but not enough to identify with either.
Answer: The driver missed him: what's the problem!

after a while i noticed he didn't message often anymore and when i message him, he usually replies pretty late. those times were rough, i thought he prolly doesn't like me anymore so i gave up and we didn't talk for a month and a half. in those times i assumed that we already broke up so i went on with my life.
then i was shocked when he suddenly messaged me one day and he said HE was surprised that i didnt message him for so long (i was like wtf). so yeah huge misunderstandings were cleared up from that moment and we got a bit closer now... and affectionate.
(The reason why he didn't message me alot back then aside from personal space issues was because I told him a few times that I was busy in school so he took that as a signal that he shouldn't disturb me alot)

@@smiley-wu1kn yeah. ur right. we broke up 2 months ago lmao
Ooooo i was waiting for this here we goooo
Hope you found it useful in some way! ~ Nathan
As much as I love my abstract proclivities - I have a strong envy for ISTPs and their ability apply their Ti to reality.
so, purchased some merchandise... I have a request. Since you have so many INTP subscribers, would you consider adding an INTP hoodie?
Brilliant!! 🖤
So, do you think an INTP and ISTP with fairly balanced iNtuition and Sensory functions (not compared to each other, but within their individual spectrum - ie: fairly balanced between Ni vs Ne, and same for Si vs Se) seem especially similar?
And presumably, if one or the other of them were a jumper type, it would make that determination between the two types that much more challenging, I’m guessing?
Mostly I’m just wondering if my question is inherently flawed/missing something obvious.
Yes I definitely think so, especially the OP types as you mentioned. Lead sleep ISTPs are going to come across a lot like INTPs in the standard cognitive functions since they'd be IxxP and NT ~ Nathan
Also...both jumper ITPs can seem like either an INTJ or and ISTJ from what I have observed.
This video is very clear and enlightning. It makes the differences obvious. I could not figure out if I was a N or a S before this.
This is really great to hear! I love it when we get comments like this ~ Nathan
INTPs and INFPs have quite a bit in common. I guess it’s due to them both using Ne and Si.
Exactly! I have a video comparing those two types on here ~ Nathan
How is an intp lawyer??
INTP here- I appreciate how you thoroughly but concisely you communicate complex and original ideas. I paused at the riddles and I’m here to flex (yup, you called it).
1. (Quick, shallow answer) corners can be hazardous. Also, the circle is more efficient in terms of surface area (though I’d have to research to determine if this is a valid reason).
2. It was daytime. Ez clap😎
Rather than confirming my type (though that took a while) I’m here to understand how “Sensing” people operate.
WHY are they like this???)
The lack of understanding is a two-way street: I can NOT comprehend how someone can live like that.
Basically-
ISTP: get The Thing done (the action hero example was perfect and ngl this is a respectable attitude)
INTP: think about ALL the different ways to do The Thing, evaluate each option, and find the ONE that works (like Dr. Strange with the time stone in End Game).
Present your idea to a (usually disinterested/dismissive) audience. Shrug and retreat to your room (for good this time. Seriously, why bother??)
IMO on paper, ISTP > INTP because at least they’re out there getting stuff done 🤷🏽♀️
Do ISTPs need any plans? Like.. for life?
They can actually get by really well without much of a plan to be honest but I think they do best when they have goals and things to work towards ~ Nathan
Ah, I think I'm an INTP that's evolving into an ISTP. After getting older realizing thoughts and perfectionism only get you so far. It's the doing part that needs to eventually get done. Too many half finished projects. Great Evolution to undergo really, as i've done most of the thinking i can now get into the doing before i'm too old! And go ''Ahh i shoulda just done it. Now i know what Nike meant!''
