- Stuart Batty demonstrating techniques for simple bowl turning to the Rocky Mountain Woodturners on November 4, 2021. He discusses his 7 fundamentals, chucking, the 40/40 grind gouge and bottom gouges.
We apologize for the lower resolution video but are using Zoom for our meetings.
I never fail to learn something useful after watching a Stuart Batty video.
Thank you Stuart
I throughly enjoyed taking Stuart’s five day class. If you get the chance, take his class, it is well worth it. All aspects of my turning got much better.
Where to subscribe, Timothy?!?! I am on.
@Timothy Larson Thank you very much for the kind words and support!
Great presentation Stuart.
Like Allan batty.
Keep teaching us .
Thanks and best wishes 🙏
Wonderful demo. Thank you do much for putting this together. Thanks for sharing.
Great demo Stuart. Nice addition to all your others. Thanks!
Stuart, I'm very impressed. A friend from a LOM forum shared this video with me and I must say I picked up a lot of good tips.
I have turned lots of spindles for chair repair, cradles and such but now its time to learn how to make bowls. I am really interested in your
sharpening jig as well. Thanks again.
Stuart is the best teacher on technique that I’ve seen. Would love to take a class from him.
There may be classes elsewhere but the ones I know about are listed at: www.woodworkersemporium.com/shop-by-category/classes/ or www.woodturnerscatalog.com/docs/workshop_schedule_2022.pdf
@L Parker Thank you for your kind words. I look forward to having you in my classes in the future!
Thanks Stuart, I believe you will be doing a Zoom meeting with the Central Virginia Woodturners sometime this year. Hope to talk with you then.
Stuart is one of the most proficient technicians in woodturning today. Loved his classes while at WNTX, and love watching his videos. Battles with Mahoney at SWAT are classics.
@David Baulch Thank you David for your kind words. I also enjoy battles with Mike as well :)
Great presentation, plenty technique and tips from the master, btw, thanks for the mention on the lathe Headstock lol….I still wonder where it might be 🤔
cheers Colin.
El mejor stuart batty
Really like this demo and love the emphasis on speed and efficiency. Watched it, practised, repeat… and understand more each time. Would be great to do a class with Stuart in the uk. I couldn’t determine from the video whether Stuart was using 3/4” or 5/8” gouges please ?
Almost always he uses 5/8" gouges.
Does Stuart have a website with his schedule of upcoming classes anywhere?
Stuart does not currently have a website. He has posted his class & demonstration schedule on Instagram.
Best by far instruction -sadly the resolution did not focus on the pitch of cut.
Has anyone found the videos or site/channel he has been talking about? I'd love to find some of his videos that he is producing.
Great presentation! Thanks for sharing it. I only wish the video was shared with a better quality. 480p in 2021 is not good. Did'n Stuart talk in this video about setting up his video recording studio and be able to record in 6k? ;) And here it's not even 1080p, but just 480... Impossible to see the important details.
@Victor Ilyukevich This was recorded by volunteers at a local club demo. I'm building my recording studio from scratch and will be releasing high-quality videos later this year. Thank you for your support, and apologies for the low resolution of this particular video.
@@stuartbattywoodturning7548 can’t wait!
Good .good
What type or brand name is your wood lathe
Where can one purchase the device that sets the angle sharpening that is attached to the grinder?
Woodworkers Emporium has some of the tools that Stuart has designed..
Where are these films he’s talking about?
Great content, but the audio and video could be multiple times better. Is this some sort of preview?
As was stated in the intro paragraph the recording was based on the best that a Zoom meeting allowed.
I wonder if Batty knows about the hook tools that the russian use
Good demo . Good info. But I cannot hear the questions being asked. It gets very confusing at times. Are you speaking to us watching or the people asking a question. Not hearing the questions has us guessing at what you are talking about.
Holy crap. It’s Stuart Batty for crying out loud. Why is the camera work not better?
Your camera man needs to turn off the autofocus and digital zoom. Use a follow focus.
What a fantastic turner. I keep watching all his presentations. What a TERRIBLE video recording. Almost ruined all his attempts to deliver.
As stated in the intro we were limited by the Zoom technology we used to have an online interactive demonstration.
@@hoylecurtis Has nothing to do with Zoom technology. Filming techniques should be improved. Do not take my harsh words - sorry - as an approach. But contact me if a piece of advice how to film is needed.
I really hate the picture in picture signing off now have to watch something else it’s annoying
poor Quality!
The fastest rim speed you want to turn is 40mph.
The rim speed of the earth is said to be over 1000mph.
Haha 😂, the earth is flat and motionless. Globe Earth is a Religion!!
WOW, I thought SB master class... U BEAUTY, then the mask. BYE
The county that the club has it meetings in has/had a mask mandate at the time of recording. To allow the club to meet in person county mandates had to be followed.
I only hope this insanity passes, even surgeons were writing papers about whether they were necessary or simply convention (the conclusion was that evidence for their efficacy is very weak to non-existant - I can send you links - I have studied this in depth) and now we have this whole societal legacy based on a myth - it is worse than pagan. It is young shop workers and those who are given no choice I feel the most sad for.
Too much talk about cameras, teaching, and history. Could have been half as long about lathe turning.
