    Mind boggling to see the amount of comments complaining about having access to a free demo by one of the best woodturners on earth. Aside from a few moments where Stu was moving around quickly (not the camera guys fault) it is pretty easy to see and hear exactly what’s going on. I think many people here are just having trouble understanding the accent. Excellent video thank you for posting this

      Absolutely. This video was a game changer for me and I recommend watching this to any woodturner, regardless of experience.

    I believe we traveled over two miles while watching this video... the camera man was doing wind sprints with the "zoom in" and "zoom out" feature! At one point we almost made the jump to light speed. Despite all the back and forth with camera, Stuart did an excellent job of showing us the science of how and why the bowl gouge cuts and should be used. He is a great teacher... thanks Stuart.

    How do you know when you’ve provided an entire community of people an invaluable (and free) resource? You have over 200k views on a video that the only reason to watch is to gain the knowledge he shares. Spoiler alert, there will be no music, explosions, or dancing ladies. 😂 There WILL be the most beneficial video ever created for the turning community. Thank You, Sir.

    I am not going to complain about the video hell it was free and I still learned a lot. Until you are the volunteer cameraman don't complain so much

    Dear Stuart,
    I will thank you for the great video's that I have seen from you. I learned a lot of it. I also discovered that I have got a lot of information on YT what was incorrect. You also teach, why en how. Thanks for sharing your wisdom on the loos way you do. Thanks
    I have a question for you. When I looked at the video :
    Stuart Batty demonstrates bowl turning with his 40/40 grind from 23-oct-2018, You explane by time-frame 1:41:00 the working of the burr. You also named : Easy wood turning, about the product : "a negative rake scraper from carbide". You joked, 'The just did't get it', ;-) . Now comes my question: I just started to turn Epoxy in combination with wood. Some call it hybrid-turning. I have a Robert-Sorby 5 pcs set and I bought these cutting-plates: Ci1-R2-NR 15mm, (square) // Ci0-NR 16mm (round) // Ci3-NR 16mm (round) // Ci0, 16 mm round.
    All made from carbide. I hope you have any time for my question to give my advice, or tell me what tool not to use. Outside turning is getting well, but bowl turning gives me some trouble after the depth of 1 inch (2,5 Cm).
    I hope to hear from you.
    Thank you in advance,

    Excellent explanations. I didn't understand why the bowl gouge fails at the bottom of the bowl, although I've experienced the difficulty. It seems like the same cut as squaring off the end of the blank earlier in the video.

    • @rmwoodturners
      @rmwoodturners  7 років тому +1

      Because you are cutting into end grain at the bottom of the bowl you need a different approach. Good explanation in the Stuart Batty video on "How Gouges Cut" at time 1 hour and 15 minutes.

    • @rmwoodturners
      @rmwoodturners  4 роки тому

      It would work except that you cannot keep the bevel on the bottom due to interference from the bowl rim.

    Sorry but does any one know what model Delta Grinder that is 22:36 into the video ? Or are the evolution series wheels that are making the difference ?

    Beginner comment: I found this quite confusing. It wasn't clear what angle on the chisel you were referring to. I guess more experienced turners already know this.

    what is the bevel angle on the roughing gouge

      Stuart uses the same 40 degree angle for the roughing gouge as the other gouges.

  • @KTMONEY100
    @KTMONEY100 8 років тому

    Did I hear right that he says to use 40* angle on all gouges? Or did he say it's best to use the 35 -40-45 angles for the spindle-roughing-bowl?

    • @rmwoodturners
      @rmwoodturners  8 років тому +1

      This is both a complex subject and an area of personal preference. Stuart has a series of free videos on Vimeo (vimeo.com/woodturning) which go into this in more detail. The short answer seems to be 40 degrees for most gouges with the exception of a bowl bottom grind at a steeper angle. Well worth the time to watch his other videos.

      @rmwoodturners  5 років тому

      Stuart does not currently produce any gouges. Look on his Vimeo channel. vimeo.com/woodturning
      He hand sharpens all his gouges in a manner that produces a 40 bevel on all sides of the flute including the swept back wing.

    I’m sure this was all volunteer. But it is sad, that the camera was never on what he was demonstrating. And I don’t think it was a very good quality camera because it to “Ave” Focus you f#€{.
    And sadly you only get one chance to do it right. I hope the cameraman, gets a better camera, and loses whatever finger was pushing the zoom button.
    This is a perfect example of why trying to film something like this you need multiple cameras that are set up at The correct viewing angles, to quickly move to where the information is being demonstrated.

    Focus faster, hit autofocus when you zoom in and not wait for the camera to self-focus. Sounds like a very big room, lots of echoes which makes it hard to understand. Great information but could be improved with better camera and sound work.

  • @jaimedejesusrinconquintero1141

    I see many failures in the handling of the tool holder, in relation to the height in relation to the wood, especially in the turning process. He also has or better shows the bad technique of touching the wood from the upper part, no professional turner teaches or gives a bad example of this dangerous way, while in motion; this is not a technical procedure and can cause an accident, to the point of running the risk of pointing one or more fingers of the hand.
    I did not like the video because of what was previously said and because I perceived during the whole demonstration, his desire to show himself more as a comedian than as a professional turner
