What's your super secret trick to pealing eggs?
Put it in a small glass with a little bit of water, shake violently, remove shell. BOOM!!
I like to slowly lower fridge cold eggs into boiling water and then shock them with cold and let sit in cold water for a bit before peeling. Also, I’ve heard the fresher the eggs the harder they are to peel.
My super-secret trick after letting the eggs sit in cold water is to tap the entire egg on the counter to create little cracks all around and then peel!
Put 2 or 3 unpeeled eggs in your jar with the lid on. Shake the jar violently and the shells should fall off.
Super fresh eggs do not peel well because theres a thin membrane around the egg that the shell adheres to when laid. Soaking them in baking soda and water after boiling will make the shell peel easier if they are fresh. Running warm water while peeling also helps.
To get shells off, drain the boiling water, then run lukewarm water on the eggs in the pot.. add in about 1/2 cup baking soda. Let sit for about 10 mins.. then put in cold water to be cool enough to peel. the shells will easily come off.
As a chef usually what I do is I take the eggs out when they're hot and I run them under cold water immediately and then I bounce them around till the shell is cracked a lot and then I peel them under cold water. Also I use a kitchen spoon to put my eggs in the pot.
to peel boilt eggs i put slowly reduce the temp of the water by simple displacement (just add cold water til its cold) then let em rest about 10 min then drop one egg into a rocks glass and shake the ships out of it then the shell comes off quite qickly
Reading some of the other comments, I am happy to see that this video was helpful to a lot of people.
Fun to think how your 'soap box' moment has developed and changed into what it is now! Continued progress.
Comment context: Having seen where Gubba ended up (Sept 2023), I decided to see how her Homestead journey started and follow along. I love a conversion story! My hope for her, is simply her success!
Awesome! I’ve been wanting to try these! Now I have a recipe.
those look amazing! another helpful how to vlog!
Glad you like them!
They look really good gubba
Instant pot 5-5-5 method for hard boiled eggs. I will never do anything else. Easiest peel.
This comment. Amen. Easiest to peel and most perfectly cooked.
I need to try this recipe
Pro tip: Boil water first, add eggs, and boil 10 minutes. Fill bowl large enough to hold all the eggs with ice & water. When finished boiling immediately transfer to ice water, the temperature difference will help the shell separate 99% (there maybe be one stubborn one). Crack the egg (spoon/countertop, etc.), use your thumbs to work around/crack the shell circumference, then pinch ‘n peel. In my experience the shell comes off in only 2 pieces 🐣
The only downside I’ve found to this is there’s probably one or two eggs that will have hairline fractures and/or air pressurez They split/pop when added to the boiling water but not much leaks out by the time it cooks and seals up. I usually just eat those as I’m peeling 🤷🏻♂️
Thank you ! How long are they good for in the fridge?
You're welcome Tammy. They can stay good for up to 4 months in the fridge in a airtight container but I would always check them before eating as they can go bad sooner.
@@GubbaHomestead Thank you !
Bout to try these, thanks
Enjoy!
Whenever you're hard boiling eggs, add Vinegar to the water (to make them peel easier).
Pro Tip: Always steam your eggs rather then boiling them. Place eggs in a steamer basket, place steamer basket with eggs in to a pot with a little cold water, cover pot/eggs heat and gently boil water to create steam for 20 min. There is no need for a high rapid boil. The real beauty of this method is that you can easily remove the shells even from the freshest eggs with no problem, no other gimmicks are needed. After steaming, place eggs in to a bowl of cold water, lay down a few paper towels on top of each other on your counter top, crack egg shell on paper towels a few times and begin peeling. When done peeling eggs scoop up paper towels with the shells and discard.
Thank You!!!
You're welcome!
Thanks to Southern Living cookbook, I was doing it wrong for many years. Best way by far to make eggs easy to peel is to put the eggs in boiling water, boil for 13 minutes (hard boiled) and then put them in cold water, even ice water if available.
How many days or how much time do I put the jar in my fridge before I can eat them?
I waited 2-3 weeks before enjoying. Longer the better!
(I Think) a lot of times the boiled eggs that do not peal properly is not necessarily the chef's fault: If the chicken is not healthy, it will lay eggs with thin, weak shells. I've boiled different eggs with the same procedure and found a huge difference in how they peal, suggesting the problem lays, (no pun intended) in the unhealthy chicken/egg, not the cooking of the 'said above'... PS first time I watched ur show... LOVE-IT!
So can you tell me what makes these Kansas style eggs? What is the reason you leave the eggs on the counter for 4 days? What dose this do for the eggs? The recipe sounds good. I may have to give it a try.
Well done! You’re fun to watch!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Definitely my favorite recipe, although I read on your website to let the eggs sit on the counter for 4 days prior to boiling. What is the purpose of that?
To let them bloom
Not to bad a job for maybe the only thing you ever cooked. Steam or pressure cook.. works awesome.
I was taught to juggle the eggs before boiling to weed out the less flavorful eggs since they are on the floor afterwards. I gotta get me one of those timers I have never seen one like that before.
sounds like a GubChef tip 😂 The timers super helpful! Gubma coming in clutch Egg Timer - amzn.to/3rHIl4I
Secret to peeling eggs. After boiling... Cool them for 15 minutes in cold water (doesn't need to be ice).
Then, put the eggs into a food safe container with a lid (Tupperware or similar) and shake them 40 times. That crushes the shells, which will easily peel off. Perfect hard boiled and peeled eggs.
Baking soda bath on the cool down ... Rolls right off
Subbed for the English muffin crunching humor 😂
This looks amazing! 🤤🤤 does anyone know if I can skip the sugar?
Yes, the sugar helps to cut down on the vinegar taste. Without it you will just have a more prominent vinegar taste to the eggs.
@@GubbaHomestead thank you for replying🙏🏻 I’m diabetic so I can’t use the sugar. I can probably add a sweetener for the taste I was just afraid if I skip the sugar all together - will it spoil the recipe completely🤔
Thank you 🤗
@@burkinfaso Try tossing a few stevia leaves into the brine. You can preheat your brine, which helps dissolve and sugar and salt, but will also help to extract some of the stevia sweetness. When putting in jar, don't discard the leaves but keep them in the solution. :)
How long are they good for in the fridge?
Mine were good for a few months, but I ate them before that
You are awesome. I enjoyed your
Thank you! 😃
After boiling and letting sit, I run under cold water, then I fill the pot with cold water and baking soda and swirl. The sells come off easily
Baking soda bath helps peel
For a homesteading you waste a lot of water. Roll the eggs to crack the eggs and peel in a large bowl of water then use the water & egg shells in your garden.
Always add some cooler water to your pot before dumping down your plastic sink pipes.
A long story to finally get to the pickled eggs.
ive seen a simuliar recipe from kansas on youtube. im here in kansas city and tried it so his and yours must be based off of counties. lol. jackson county has a new one by me. halopenos + pink salt
If you ad pickling spice do you ommit the salt
Don’t eggs spoil after being left of fridge for days????
love this video gubba you rock!
you rock! Thanks for watching 😀
I never tried pickled eggs before maybe it’s time for a change and try them 🤔
Do it! They're so good 😍
I'm impressed, not a single egg on the floor, unlike another time I seem to remember. ; )
I have no recollection of that 🤔😂
Its my understanding that "free range" according to the USDA is 4 square feet for every chicken in the enclosure.... my chickens have 14 square feet each..... tastiest eggs ive ever had!
Next time just put all of your dry ingredients into 1/2 c of vinegar, put into bottom of jar. Fill with eggs then pour vinegar until covered. Seal, give it a good shake and store. BOOM
Nice video Gubba! Very interesting!
Thanks Bryce, glad you enjoyed it!
Place the eggs gently into the boiling pot, drop the eggs aggressively into the sink. I'll write those directions down if I make this. 😂
It turned out ok in the end 😂
Eat the meat. Kudos on the chickens , I agree. Visit some farms , marry had a little lamb and her babies were delicious 😋🤤 southern Oregonian, love raising chickens, lambs and horses...don't eat horses.
Being a veg you need a little protein practice need to crack the eggs and roll them till the shell is crushed a bit then the egg should peel right out
you need to pick up 6 laying chickens . easy to take care of . all kitchen wast go's to eggs .
All the eggs survived 😲
My Grandfather was killed by a hand granegg.
😁😁😁😁
I gently bang my egg wide side down on counter then boil peel with a spoon
Cubba , I worked at the biggest organic chicken egg farms in America and they sit on poop for up to a week , before cleaning and cartons….. I swear…….
try putting each egg into a jar and shake hell out of it and it peels great
Put in frig over nite before peeling
Should pickled cucumbers and carrots as well
Sounds interesting, I'll have to try it out!
Ummmm..great video. You are learning but you could have made that much easier. Thanks!
You're welcome!
Steam the eggs then peel
Peeling hard-boiled eggs isn't that hard. Just take the egg, smack it all around on the counter, then take the egg, peel it, but find the membrane that's right under the shell. Grab onto the membrane and it will help tremendously in peeling the rest of the egg shell off.
The pastures are rotated not the Chickens sis .
Homesteader without chickens...?
Interesting
I have chickens now :)
@@GubbaHomestead I hate chickens
I'm getting meat rabbits for my mini city homestead but I'll get chickens if I get real land
Pastured is the way you want to go, free range means nothing. Pasture raised is the correct term.
You know the best way to make ice cubes is by having an ice tray to pour water into each of the spaces so you can place it in the freezer. That way the water will freeze into ice cubes.
Stop!! You are talking about voodoo magic.
🤦🏾♂️
Look, I just don't know who you exactly are, but may I have you know that what I'm discussing here has no relation to voodoo magic or anything grim, dark, satanic, or even diabolically abysmal like that. And might I point out that you've *haven't read anything in this comment related to voodoo magic* .
So may I ask you to just take a simple second to *overlook* what I've written and realize the error. I'm just explaining a simple strategy everybody uses in making ice. Nothing even magical is said.
@@th2184_cma_.. It’s a joke, son.
Well how was I supposed to know?
You are beautiful and energetic gubba..am from India..I will try this for sure and let you know
Thank you so much 😍
Why don't you try using baking soda and your eggs and it for some reason that does work and it's so much easier getting them eggshells off even after you kind of break them up on the sink just try it I think you'll be amazed. And if it doesn't work you have my permission to call me a liar LOL
Another way to know if the egg is boil is to take it out of the water with a spoon and if the water on it evaporate that mean it’s ready
Interesting!
why so much salt and sugar? seems like alot.
The nice thing about these types of recipes is you can adjust them to your own preferred taste. You could reduce or not use sugar or salt but for me I love the extra flavor it brings to it. Sugar helps to balance the tartness of the vinegar.
A homestead that buys eggs? Ok..
I now have 20 chickens thank you
Just boil for 15 mins, that is a hard boiled egg
How do you not have chickens lol
I do! Spent a good amount of time rebuilding the old coop. Here's the newest video of the chickens ua-cam.com/video/E6NVNrpJ8Gg/v-deo.html
Have you ever looked into what "free range" actually means as far as chicken living? It means nothing. Chickens are still bred to be as large as possible which means for the most party the still cant walk and to be considered free range all they need is actual ACCESS to an outdoor sunlit area. 95% of chickens never see that outdoor area.
You're homesteading and you don't have your own chickens?
I had to prepare the chicken coop on this homestead as it was a mess!
Here's what I did to fix it up ua-cam.com/video/7gkXlRFUmD8/v-deo.html
The chickens just moved in a few weeks ago and I'll have a video on them soon 😊
so you being vegan lets say ur husband got a deer that hunting season would u eat it bc its been wild and free range all there life
Turn your gas and power off.. Instant homesteading.
never ever poke holes into the eggs. do the research on why no-one pokes holes into eggs. introducing botulism everything else looked ok
Homesteading and you don't raise your own chickens?
I do now 😀
The reason chicken's are put in cages is that 💩 on any and everything, And protects the chicken's from predators.
Vid seems so processed. Just my 2 cents ...
Me thinks ....woke pickled eggs. A homesteader who buys organic, free range eggs instead of having chickens, huh!
Do you even know what “woke” means? This video is over 2 years old. If you weren’t so busy being a know it all and expert of everything, you would know she now has chickens and goats and cows.
Nope....
Yeah this is a very slow person show . Bye
too much waffling
