      Shaq said the same thing about them losing to the Pistons in 04,he said everyone wanted to get theirs. But,the Pistons defensive tactics against the Lakers were simple,yet effective.Plus,Malone wasn't 100%,,Horace Grant was in street clothes during the series,Rick Fox was also hurt. Gary Payton was-TRASH -the entire series-LOL.

      -- Part of coaching is Xs and Os. AND sometimes...it's managing egos.
      Case in point? Phil Jackson asked Kobe to tone down the scoring b/c they were losing Shaq's focus. Kobe could have gone for 40pts plus for nearly a dozen games in the 02-03 season so....Kobe obliged. It's not just the "triangle offense" but everything else as well.
      Glenn Rivers? He blew THREE 3-1 leads and hasn't made it out of the 2nd round for 11 years straight.

      You wanted them to double Josh Smith and Corey Brewer? GTFO of here with that. There's no adjustment for 25% three point shooters turning into Ray Allen and Reggie Miller. You just ride it out.
      Sometimes sports just happens. It's no one's fault. Smith and Brewer hitting all those threes in a game Houston had already conceded is just bad luck.
      Look Doc isn't Tom Thibideau or Erik Spoelstra when it comes to instilling mental toughness but ANY team would have been hard pressed to bounce back from that.
      You had the Donald Sterling fiasco + an emotional 7 game series with SA + the Smith/Brewer game + all the baggage from years of playoff failures. It's too much. Even without a broken locker room that is extremely hard to come back from. With a broken locker room, forget it.

      This. Was CP3 fan since Hornets. Clippers had individual talent but they had the biggest roster construction flaws out of all the contenders (lacked good wing in wing during the era when the win was arguably the most important position at both sides of the floor) were coached the worst ouf of all contenders and had the worst teamwork and chemistry out of all contenders. Lob City were like C tier contenders while Spurs, Heat, Warriors were A and OKC were B (also some egos clashing and a bit worse coaching but not to the extent of Clippers). Their only very slim but somewhat realistic chance was 2015 if they were able to keep that snowball effect of that momentum that they were begining to build during and after Spurs series. 2014 Spurs and 2016 onwards Warriors were clearly better teams in pretty much every basketball aspect let alone mental.@@giiotm8272

      It was injuries mostly... Either Blake or CP3 was always out with injuries come Playoff time, or playing through injuries that affected their level of play... Obviously, once you're injured and losing year after year, then animosity starts building up... But when they were healthy, they were consistenly good and looked like contenders by a lot of metrics... And this is despite playing in a very tough period in the Western Conference... You had the Spurs, Thunder, Warriors, some decent Memphis, Utah and Portland teams too.

      @@haydotzero3372 I agree their backup guards sucked, but CP3 was averaging like 33-34 minutes in those years... It's not like he was playing high 30s or low 40s minutes, and he was 26,27,28 years old...
      CP3 had injury problems before he got to the Clippers... He plays hard every game and doesn't take possessions off on either end of the court... It happens... It's not like we haven't seen an ungodly amount of talented point-guards being injured in the last 15 years... Derrick Rose, John Wall, Westbrook, Curry, Kyrie, Isaiah Thomas, Kemba, even guys like Rubio... The physical requirements of the modern game take a tool on everybody sooner rather...
      The problem with CP3 is that his injuries flared up at the worst possible times... Guys like Curry and Kyrie could miss entire seasons or entire Playoff series, but their teams were still good enough to advance deep enough for them to come back and help out.. When CP3 was out for the Clippers it was a wrap... Blake wasn't good enough to lead an average supporting cast on his own offensively, DeAndre beccame completely useless without Paul feeding him... Everybody else was an old journeyman.

    The Lob city clippers made me fall in love with Basketball. Before watching im gonna say 1. Doc Rivers being both coach and GM. 2. Deandre Jordan being an overpaid roll player who refused to improve his game and see his true potential. And 3. Maybe holding onto Chris Paul for too long. Sure he is one of the greatest point guards to ever pick up the ball but at the same time U could always trust him to get hurt when u actually need him most. On top of that him being one of the greatest pgs of alltime stunted Blake Griffin's development and game as Blake Griffin was the best playmaking bigman of that mid 2010s era. Blake was increadibly skilled and came to the game with something new every year and had a more than reliable jumpshot by 14-15 but was forced to mostly play low and catch lobs. Griffin showed his playmaking skills during transition as well as when CP3 was hurt and he was statically the best player in the 2015 playoffs until the Clippers got eliminated, He did this in a series with Chris Paul and spearheading another without, only losing because Doc Rivers couldnt adjust and decided to add another alltime choke job to his resume.

They were never even given main contenders label by any analyst and were rightfully constantly doubted despite their regular season success. They were in position were they needed to earn respect firs. People and teams hated Clippers cause they felt like they are overrated and not that good. They almost proved everyone wrong in 2015 until the disaster happened. Being weak at the wing was also the worst possible position to be weak at as well. Every 2010s winner either had a wing that is top 5 player in the league or had really solid role players wing rotation (Mavericks). Matt Barnes is a great role player but he was the best Clippers ever had and just him wasn't enough, they needed more depth there.@@DGATOR86

    All this personality stuff I'm sure played a role... but I feel like people overrate the fuck out of those Clipper teams.
    They were NEVER the best team in the West.. so idk why people think they were supposed to win.
    They had garbage wing play (the most important position at the time), a terrible bench (PLEASE don't talk to me about Jamal Crawford.. entirely overrated gunner that could get you some Sixth Man awards.. but ask him to actually win games and be a plus player on the floor and that's a totally different story).. and they also had TERRIBLE injury luck.
    Through the whole Lob City era, they only lost one series to a team they should have beat.. and that was 2015 against Houston (a series where CP missed the start, and played hurt though the rest).
    But yeah... there was never a time when they were better than San Antonio, Oklahoma City, and then later Golden State. They were never the best team in the West at any point.

      Also, their two star players overlapped in skill.
      What made Blake special as a PF, outside of his athleticism, was his ability to run the offense through him... but when your PG is Chris Paul... it doesn't matter how good you are as a Point Forward.. the optimal play 9/10 is still to run the offense through a Top ~5 PG of all time. Any decent GM would have broken up the CP+Blake pairing by 2014, and gotten good wing play instead.. but Doc kept a core together that was never gonna win.
      People have finally come around to the fact that Doc has been massively overrated as a coach.. but GM Doc is a whole other level of terrible.

    • @brandonsantiago2298
      @brandonsantiago2298 3 місяці тому

      Well you’re wrong about them never being better than Spurs cause they were able to beat the Spurs in a game 7 with a CP game winner in 2015 and that was right after the spurs had won the chip and obliterated the Heat the year before. So the clippers were that good that they were able to beat the defending champs in the first round.
      To me the Clippers had all the talent and skills to win but when crunch time came they always chocked or they got injured. They were so many games where CP and Blake just couldn’t deliver when the team needed them the most. Blake never developed an offensive skillset other than lob dunks and fast breaks. When the game slowed down, the paint is clogged and you needed a tough bucket Blake didn’t have the skillset to deliver, CP does but proved he ain’t that guy cause he never delivered. That’s why they got Jamal Crawford cause he’s clutch but he also never delivered when needed in crunch time. You put Kobe, Kawhi, Lebron, Wade, Melo or KD on that team and they win the chip. They needed a star of that level, a closer. And they didn’t.
      Later James Harden with cp3, he’s proven that as great as he is offensively he’s not a closer and that’s why they could never get it done. Later CP3 had a closer with Booker but the coach failed in making adjustments for Giannis on that final. And then with KD they just lost to a better team in the Denver nuggets. But CP3 as great as he is, he’s not a closer, he can have moments but he’s not your go to guy for every late game situation.

    • @TizOnly1
      @TizOnly1 3 місяці тому

      @@brandonsantiago2298 that's why I said "later Golden State" because I was trying to give a sense of time. Chris Paul got to LA in 2011. The Clippers didn't "surpass" the Spurs until 2015 once SAS got too old. So for the first 3 years, the Clippers were NOT better than San Antonio or OKC.. then for the next couple of years, they were NOT better than Golden State or OKC. There's just no way to argue that even just on paper the Clippers were EVER a Top 2 team in the West. It just was never the case. So all the talk people have about them choking, or not meshing well.. yeah.. there may be *some* truth to it.. but even if they played 100% optimal, they just were never on THAT level regardless.
      Everything else you said is kinda trash tbh. Just super basic understanding of the game.
      Jamal Crawford throughout his entire career was NEVER the answer to the question "who should we get if we want to win playoff games". He was a chucker off the bench who played zero defense, and had no clue how to run a team offense. Fans love that shit, but it never wins anything.
      The whole "they need a star" thing misses it. Notice every player you named there... they were strong WING players. It was the most important position in the league at the time, and the Clips had NOBODY there throughout the entire Lob City run. THAT'S a huge reason why they weren't as good as people acted like they were. They had nobody playing in the most important spot. They didn't need a "star" necessarily. They just needed somebody strong. They coulda had like prime Nic Batum or something in that spot and made it work, but they were running old-ass Grant Hill and Caron Butler and shit. Had Danny Granger playing real minutes at the 3. There's just no way to win like that. And at least if you were gonna have a suboptimal player at the 3, they could have at least been strong defensively. They didn't even have that. They just had absolutely nothing coming from the most important spot on the court.
      As for CP.. the biggest reason CP has zero rings is injury luck. If he didn't fuck up his hamstring in 2015, they likely beat that Houston team. He got hurt basically every year after that in LA. In Houston, if he doesn't get hurt, they likely win a ring... in PHX even, if he doesn't get hurt, they stand a much better chance in 2021. And really the biggest problem in Houston was that 'Antoni and Harden were too bought into each other, and would have done better letting CP operate more, instead of playing Harden Ball, which is a volatile style of play.. exactly what you don't want deep in the playoffs.
      But yeah.. people spend way too much time going back and forth about a Clipper team that, at their very best, was never better than third best in the conference. They weren't ever supposed to win. GM Doc failed that team so bad.

      @@TizOnly1 “super basic understanding of the game” 😂 whatever you say Phil Jackson. James Harden has proven in the playoffs that when he’s most needed he hasn’t delivered. CP has not delivered multiple times in his career when needed as well. Yes, he’s had a lot of injuries that have prevented him from winning like 2018 I believe when they had a 3-2 lead against the KD warriors. Had he not gotten injured they beat the warriors. Yet Harden could not close on either game and having an nba record of 31 straight misses from 3. Then they chocked against a warriors team without KD.
      Again Jamal Crawford was not the dude they needed to close, but they got him because of that. Yes, the league turned more guard wise. The (more versatile) big men era is coming back. But you still always need an elite player that can close. The guys I had mentioned were that type of player. CP, Blake, Deandre Jordan, JJ redick, Jamal Crawford, none of them were that type. CP is(was) a complementary superstar player. He can’t be the main dude and win, and when his main star was Harden, Harden didn’t deliver. I blame the 2021 finals in coaching adjustments, and again Denver was just the better team.
      You think the Clippers weren’t good enough to beat the top teams and make it to the finals even if they played “100% optimal”. I disagree. I think had they played their best basketball they could’ve definitely beaten anyone and reach the finals if not for injuries, bad coaching at times and their own star players not coming thru when needed. But they had the talent.
