@phamawa They are a top 5 defense with giannis and Lopez on the court. They are giving up less points in the paint and less rebounds per game then last year. All there problems are in the perimeter where defensive assigbemnet have shifted without jrue.
People keep saying this like Jrue guarded everyone on the court. Bucks fans who watch the games know that’s maybe 30% of the issue. Trading holiday isn’t the reason why we’re suddenly giving up the most corner 3s in the league. Everyone has dropped off and are doing their own thing

For anyone saying we shouldn’t have fired Bud as a result of this Griffin debacle, no we really did need to get rid of him. Flopping in the playoffs all but one season isn’t enough to keep him around. Though I am also still confounded why they think Doc Rivers is a worthy replacement. Guy is a serial underachiever.
"flopping in the playoffs" he says while the Bucks see the most success they've had as a franchise in decades, perhaps even ever they knee jerk reacted by firing Bud just because "he lost in the first round to an 8th seed!" Miami had milwaukee figured out for years and Spo is one of the best coaches of all time, every series Miami won after that firing just made it look worse and worse. There isn't shame losing here but Bucks fans think there is for some reason. Did Celtics fire their coach after losing? Did Knicks? Jesus Christ! I know Bucks fans think they should be a dynasty with Giannis but it's hard to win in this league, you can't win every year. How'd they do with Bud? First season, Bud wins coach of the year and the Bucks make the ECF for the first time in almost 20 years, losing in 6 games to the eventual champion Toronto Raptors. Second season, lose in the second round to the Heat and the Heat would make the Finals, not a scrub team or a fluke win. Third season, they actually overcome Miami and immediately win the championship. Fourth season, lose a close series in 7 games to the Celtics in the 2nd round and the Celtics would go on to make the finals. Last season, lose in the first round to the Heat who would go on to make the Finals. Bud gets criticized by Bucks fans for this loss but Giannis lost the series for the Bucks by shooting abysmally from the foul line and actively choked game 5 away by missing a staggering amount of free throws in the 4th quarter and overtime. You see the pattern? The Bucks have only ever lost to the team that would advance to the Finals, not a fluke win or a choke or anything other than just sometimes it's not your fucking year. Somehow Bud gets all the criticism when losing was a *team* effort. The Spurs went 7 years between winning championships between 2007 and 2014 so by Milwaukee's logic they should have fired popovich after losing in the first round to the Grizzlies in 2011. Bucks fans are spoiled rotten and they deserve to see the disappointment they're going to have with the most famous choke artist coach of all time.
Gil said it best, Doc’s resume speaks for itself! Mans can’t coach, he’s had multiple hall of famers on each of his teams and only won 1 chip. Nothing will change!

Citing "not as good as reputation" because they were 14th when Brook missed like 60 games and they effectively played without a center the whole time lol
I feel like they scapegoated the hell out of the coach because they have the inability to use defensive coverages that almost every elite defensive team currently use. Just either late rotations from the person tagging the roll man (usually Lillard) or Brook taking too long to recover after his soft hedge, combining that with poor close outs and overall just horrible perimeter defense. Brook doesnt seem like he ever gave the coverage a chance at all and was never fully committed to ever making it work. He’s also been a diva lately, blatantly arguing with his teammates for everyone to see. I still remember tht clip of him looking dissatisfied that Lillard took the last shot instead of passing it to him even though he made it. Seems like he’s just blaming everyone else but himself. Not all of it is Brook's fault, I feel like if they would've just gave it a chance throughout the season they would be able to figure it out come Playoff time. The biggest concern is Lillard. He's always had a track record for being a poor defender, but it's been really bad this season. Just lost on defense, wrong rotations in x-out closeouts and either super late on tagging the roll man, poor effort or not recognizing it's his job to tag the roll man altogether. And with his track record, I have no faith in him improving this weakness. Not to mention he's also just a poor on-ball defender who's undersized. They went from a big strong guard with excellent perimeter defense in Holiday to Lillard who just seems like an F in all aspects on defense. He's such a double edged sword, he can create and be the engine for a great offense but be the absolute worst defender on both teams in most nights.
That's the thing, Lillard was always a terrible defender, but the rest of the roster is not that bad, one dude deficiency shouldn't literally break the entire defense, it's a collective effort. Lopez is acting like a diva tho. In the end, I do agree it's a mix of individual play and bad coaching on defense, but Lillard alone doesn't seem to be the major weak spot. And I am not even a Lillard fan, for the contrary really, but I guess the Bucks were so used to have Holiday and Allen navigating through screens, they are struggling to have "normal" perimeter defenders. Also they gave a up extension to Middleton even if his knees are banged up and the dude will never be the same (and he was already inconsistent when healthy), so the roster is in a weird spot, very talented, but crooked at the same time
@@jackmacfakie1387 Allen is just a role player, idk if others are "raving" about him or not, but it's a simple fact he is good at navigating screens. Jrue is arguably the best perimeter defender in the whole league, different level really, navigating screen is just another monday for him. Healthy Middleton was also good at that, hell, even Wesley Matthews coming off the bench was also good. Now the Bucks lost all that activity on the perimeter and they are still attached to the old drop schemes, of course it's not going to work. To accommodate Lillard, Beasley, slowed Middleton and Lopez, they have to play a different scheme, it's a collective effort as I said. It's easy to point fingers at Lillard and Beasley (even if Beasley is just ok, he is not awful like Lillard), but if the team is struggling to rotate with these dudes, the coach is to blame, also the GM who did not got rid of Middleton
@@jackmacfakie1387 Compared to the league standards, no one plays defense anymore in this shitty ass soft league, I honestly think Beasley is not abysmal (like Lillard), he is mediocre. Maybe they will have to play zones with Lopez, then change to full switch with Portis. If Jae Crowder ever achieves some consistency back, he can be the starter SF, shifting Middleton to SG, etc.. either way, they will have to change their ways defensively, they are too attached to Budenholzer's schemes (which only makes his firing even dumber, if these players are not willing to let it go)
Holiday is so good , that Butler and Miami dominated them last year. The Bucks had a different scheme and there were more defensive players on the team other than Holiday that's no longer there. Dame is way better than Holiday , things just take time to figure out. People are complaining and Bucks have 2nd best record in league😂
the bucks needed a scapegoat for a lukewarm off season that truly sacrificed their defensive identity. in return they got Dame, who’s name has been way more impactful than his play. he as defensive liability, simply doesn’t produce enough fire power for this team to make a deep run. and the front office knows it. so they got a coach that everyone will blame when this experiment is over.
Just say you don't watch or follow the Bucks and keep moving. Griffin was hired before Dame trade, as they thought they would take a step back. Thus were willing to give a rookie head coach a year to adapt. Dame Trade came out of nowhere, and he has been average defensively. Bringing Dame put championship pressure on a rookie coach, and the gave him half the season to try. Now as a defensive coach, he can't even make them average, and there has been dissent in the locker room, he had to be let go.
But the Bucks moved to #1 on offense what did you think would happen you gave up your two best perimeter defenders in Holiday and Carter. Dame’s D is not that bad but Beasley and Middleton are another story. I think they have to go to a more sagging Man with pressure on dead balls with a fixed rotation. Some of the issues I have witnessed is no resistance off of penetration just to easy to get into the lane without a pick.
Dame is the guy the bucks needed for situations in the playoffs. Outside of Khris Middleton the Bucks lack shot creators. Dame is what they need. If they can find a defensive scheme that can make them average, they will win the finals. Kind of like the nuggets last year. An unstoppable big (Giannis/Jokic), a Shot making PG (Murray/Dame), and a secondary scoring option (Porter Jr./Middleton).
I forgot where I heard it, but I think it was eitther JJ Redick's podcast or Andre Iguodala's podcast where they mentioned the real reason why he got fired. Adrian Griffin wanted to release Giannis's brother & Giannis didnt like that & got him fired.
Huge dame fan so I watch a lot of bucks. This just goes to show how much better the team could be. I’m not a huge doc fan but he has to be better than griffin
You don’t lose a defensive player like Holiday AND THEN change the defensive schemes away from what was successful. Adrian was in over his head he needed to coach a rebuilding team not a contender with new players and a established culture
@@rashardstallworth209 they played the easiest schedule so far. It’s supposed to become the hardest at this point in the season. They would have started dropping games with Adrian
Tbf he was in a tough spot as he's a rookie coach. It doesn't help either that Doc was his adviser so while there are no concrete evidences, you would still have that gut feeling Doc screw him over.
If they are struggling to organize their defense and offense and somehow have the 2nd best record in the league. Tells me they are just winning strictly on talent, and when they finally figure it out, they'll win it all.
This is a good video breakdown of a defensive strategy and specifically as it related to the bucks Very helpful to see the techniques and the player frustration Liked and subscribed!
Cannot be understated how washed Pat Connnaughton is. Even bud realized this last year, and DNP'd toward the end of the season, before being forced to play him due to injury in the playoffs. Griffin was playing him 25-30 mpg. Just pure idiocy
His little Grinch pose in the thumbnail perfectly sums up him as a head coach- just totally lost at every aspect of the job. He played pat Connnaughton 38 minutes in a loss, a bottom 5 defender by many metrics was being played 25 mpg... Not to mention using him and Marjon as ball handlers with dame on the floor. Pat, cam Payne, Beasley,Portis lineups don't work due to their poor defense (especially pat) and he ran lineups like this so often. Just mind-blowing how horrific his rotations and schemes, as we see in this video, were. Even if doc isn't the guy to lead them to a ring, they were *NEVER* going to win anything giving up 130 pts to 5 win teams with griffin
Griffin clearly didn't have the personnel to do what he wanted on defense. And Bucks fans had been saying that for a while. So yes it actually was a really bad idea what he wanted.
You should probably explain that 1. In 2021, the Bucks weren't playing drop as much. They were switching everything all year, and in 2022, brook was injured all year so bobby Portis was in at center and Giannis at power forward. Bud went to the zone all year cause obviously Portis isn't a great defender. Not to mention they hedges with Portis all the time. And 3. In 2023, the Bucks perimeter defense was an anomaly BECAUSE they stopped helping so damn much from the corner, and in turn helped them dissuade the most corner threes in the NBA. You can see this as they typically held teams to the fewest shots in the paint in years past, but in 2023 allowed teams to shoot the most in the paint, and not as much from deep. There's a lot more than what you explained in years past
You dont fire a rookie coach halfway through their first year because of x's and o's period let alone if they are fielding one of the best teams in the leagueml. This was not an x's and o's problem or difference in philosophy
The bucks will be worse NOW especially offensively. Any NEW coach NEEDS a mob type sit down with his team leaders to iron out how they feel about defensive/offensive schemes you the coach wants to impliment if they are comfortable with those... Otherwise if u loose your leaders u ve lost your team. In this case AG lost Lopez n Giannis. But honestly i think the *REAL PROBLEM* is the *PINK* *SNEAKERS* 🫣
And then... Once you run exactly what the players want you to run and it doesn't work, those same players take shots at you in the media and demand that you get fired. Coaching in the NBA is a lose-lose situation in MOST instances. If you're not elite schematically and flexible enough to highlight the players who would be a problem otherwise (ex. Spo, Udoka, Thibs) it's just not even worth it. A player's job should be to play. A coach's job should be to coach. This whole player driven movement is infuriating when those same players lack the accountability and integrity to admit they were wrong. I mean... Durant and Kyrie created the sinking ship in Brooklyn. And then they demanded that both the coach they hand picked and GM (who did nearly everything they asked) be fired, AND they both probably would have asked for a trade anyway. Absolutely spineless.
@@paulhyde8427 Exactly, I hear u Paul.... In BK another issue was who be ball dominant runin the plays at the point...O think JKidd will ran into the same problem. @@spiritoflifeinchristminist9764 yep. The level of basketball IQ of star players in the NBA has never been lower in my lifetime. It's very clear a lot of these guys don't have a complete understanding of the game and just want the ball to play some variation of 1 on 1. Isolation basketball does not win championships. It can close the door in a game you're already winning once you've established your main offense... But you have to have more than that
Dame should be getting a screen every 7 seconds on Offense, whether he has the ball or not. Theres no reason Giannis should be doing a thousand dribble moves on the perimeter.
well, so far Doc's current record with not is 3 -7 since taking over. a hiring mistake. you have to give a coach time in his 1st year. you hired him, give him the chance to do the job. Doc has proven that he's a failure at multiple organizations. why would you hire him and think it was going to get better.
It didn’t catch me off guard at all coach, I knew Adrian Griffin was awful the way Bucks struggled in the beginning of the season, they couldn’t cover a spread for at least 10 games
They're trying to make it Dame's team and "win now"...what we're seeing is a team that can easily be exploited because too many players aren't in sync with Dame. So they need to make Dame a support player, and go back to what they've been doing, or it's a lost year for them. When's the last time a coaching change happened mid-season and they won?
This video makes me feel a little bit better about the Bucks getting rid of Griffin. Unfortunately, the bucks decided to fix this problem with Doc Rivers.
there's a lot of luck involved in the bucks record. their average point differential is +4 while the sixers are +8 with a worse record. the cavs and knicks also have better pt differentials with worse records. in short, they're winning a lot of close games which mostly comes down to luck, but they're not as good as their record would indicate. also they're only 13-10 against >.500 teams. for comparison the celtics are 20-8 vs >.500. imo sneaky smart move by management. early season seal clubbing disguised a lot of issues with the bucks, but once they start playing more quality teams they'll be exposed.
I think you’re putting too much of the reason on game play rather than locker room . Lots of “rumors” that he had basically lost the entire locker room. They’re 2nd in the East but they have Giannis so he can basically get them there no matter what’s happening. Apparently, even Lilliards lifelong coach (super well respected) quit and wouldn’t work under this guy It doesn’t help that the first game the coach is gone, the Bucks players pre-game were basically arm locked, jumping around in a circle, acting like they’d won the lottery. Not exactly a sign that they miss the coach lol
@@jackmacfakie1387 Yup. Not to mention their defense is like 23rd in the league. The Bucks want another ring and you have to have good defense to get one

People keep saying this like Jrue guarded everyone on the court. Bucks fans who watch the games know that’s maybe 30% of the issue. Trading holiday isn’t the reason why we’re suddenly giving up the most corner 3s in the league. Everyone has dropped off and are doing their own thing
@@jame8618 no but he usually guarded the number 1 leaving number 2 amd so own to the rest.
Now without him that changes you have weaker defenders now across the board as number 2 has to now guard number 1 and so on.
It's a domino effect.
For anyone saying we shouldn’t have fired Bud as a result of this Griffin debacle, no we really did need to get rid of him. Flopping in the playoffs all but one season isn’t enough to keep him around. Though I am also still confounded why they think Doc Rivers is a worthy replacement. Guy is a serial underachiever.
i still feel like the pistons and bucks, hired the coach the other team needed. just from a basketball fit and timeline standpoint
"flopping in the playoffs" he says while the Bucks see the most success they've had as a franchise in decades, perhaps even ever
they knee jerk reacted by firing Bud just because "he lost in the first round to an 8th seed!" Miami had milwaukee figured out for years and Spo is one of the best coaches of all time, every series Miami won after that firing just made it look worse and worse.

Citing "not as good as reputation" because they were 14th when Brook missed like 60 games and they effectively played without a center the whole time lol
If you know you know. Most of these "experts" miss things like this it's cringe.
appreciate your work bball breakdown
You knew this and Miami knew this before you got him but you decided to make moves to spite Miami instead of actually trying to improve your team
Facts. From top 4-5 in defense to bottom 3rd
Lol he was not. Never seen a 30-13 head coach be scapegoated, but with hindsight clearly it wasn’t his fault.
@ yeah I was wrong. I’d give you credit for pointing that out if you didn’t wait 9 months lol but yeah I agree doc blows
You don’t lose a defensive player like Holiday AND THEN change the defensive schemes away from what was successful. Adrian was in over his head he needed to coach a rebuilding team not a contender with new players and a established culture
That would make sense if he didn’t have the number 2 record in the Eastern Conference

@@SpencerOnYT might have been Shams or Marc Stein that reported that….
Why wasnt Terry Stotts hired as the #1 coach ? Pure curiousity given I find it a bit nuts that a contender would hire a rookie head coach.
If they are struggling to organize their defense and offense and somehow have the 2nd best record in the league. Tells me they are just winning strictly on talent, and when they finally figure it out, they'll win it all.
They have played the easiest schedule in the league so far. Wait until they have to play the best teams from the West.

It’s funny that 1min after coach Nick posted this vid, DW posted a vid called “the why with DW3”. They are next to each other in my feed.
Big mistake they just lost in the first round
I heard some NBA players say you don’t help off the strong side corner because it’s a shorter pass to make. Basically a layup catch and shoot.
Griffin clearly didn't have the personnel to do what he wanted on defense. And Bucks fans had been saying that for a while. So yes it actually was a really bad idea what he wanted.
Great job this was top tier

Brook should do the Kornett Kontest when he is playing back from the pick and roll.

But honestly i think the *REAL PROBLEM* is the *PINK*
*SNEAKERS* 🫣
The games Luka dominates the ball Ky get bored, plus the teams offense doest not run as smooth as when Ky has the reins...Lukas passes the ball only when he has no shot while players just stand n watch, as opposed to ky ppl know the ball can come to them any time.. Thats how the Mavs lost to Warriors since Luka deceided he will ran the offense...
But you have to have more than that
Why can't the players be held accountable

Doc Rivers aint doing nothing on this defense issues. His clippers were up 3-1 and he refused to make adjustments on guarding Jokic
Adrian Griffin auditioning to play the role of the lowercase letter d in the thumbnail…! 😂😂😂😂
This is masterclass
This video makes me feel a little bit better about the Bucks getting rid of Griffin. Unfortunately, the bucks decided to fix this problem with Doc Rivers.
Watch Luka play defense. The only time Luka has his hands up is when he is whining to the refs.
there's a lot of luck involved in the bucks record. their average point differential is +4 while the sixers are +8 with a worse record. the cavs and knicks also have better pt differentials with worse records. in short, they're winning a lot of close games which mostly comes down to luck, but they're not as good as their record would indicate.
also they're only 13-10 against >.500 teams. for comparison the celtics are 20-8 vs >.500. imo sneaky smart move by management. early season seal clubbing disguised a lot of issues with the bucks, but once they start playing more quality teams they'll be exposed.
What holes in the roster? 2nd best offense with an average defense is all u need lol
I think you’re putting too much of the reason on game play rather than locker room .
Lots of “rumors” that he had basically lost the entire locker room. They’re 2nd in the East but they have Giannis so he can basically get them there no matter what’s happening. Apparently, even Lilliards lifelong coach (super well respected) quit and wouldn’t work under this guy
It doesn’t help that the first game the coach is gone, the Bucks players pre-game were basically arm locked, jumping around in a circle, acting like they’d won the lottery. Not exactly a sign that they miss the coach lol
@@jackmacfakie1387 Yup. Not to mention their defense is like 23rd in the league. The Bucks want another ring and you have to have good defense to get one

The pressure was turned up to 100 when the Dame trade happened. Griffin was not ready for that.
Fuck all that. 1st year coach was winning and winning at a high rate. Btw the way they lost against Cleveland last night
thats a great video
Bucks roster is too old to be doing things like bigs playing tighter on screens or wings needing to be stickier at the perimeter to put less pressure on Lopez reading the ball handler driving at him. Probably all they can do is the Bud style rim protection unless they get better wing defenders to do the dirty work.
