There’s some Doctor Who episodes with when they initially come out you just know they’re gonna be considered best episodes ever/all time classics for years to come. Heaven Sent & World enough & time/the Doctor falls were probably the last time we had those.
There are some episodes of the 15th Doctor's I can see becoming fan favorites. It's been an INCREDIBLY strong run so far. But this latest poll just cements how GOOD Capaldi was in the role.
Watching through that last poll I was starting to think "Oh no, there's not going to be any episodes from the least ten years here, is there? How embarrassing." But then Capaldi pulled the top two spots!
I didn’t like how the 2023 poll was done. I liked that they did it Doctor-By-Doctor, but as time went on it felt like some of the decisions & classifications of certain stories got more & more confusing. Like: . Trial of a Time Lord still being classified as 1 Story even tho the majority of fans consider it 4 separate stories . Shada wasn’t included despite it pretty much being now considered a proper Doctor Who story (it being in The Collection Boxset & on IPlayer is just more evidence for that) . Flux also being grouped together as 1 Story instead of 6 Chapters . The Monk Trilogy in Series 10 being seen as 3 separate stories, even tho to many it’s seen as 1 three-part story . And the confusion of the some of the classifications of stories in Series 9. Is The Girl Who Died & The Woman Who Lived 1 story or 2 separate ones? Is the finale a 3 Parter or a 2 Parter or 3 Separate stories? And to end it all off, instead of just using the data from the multiple polls that were done, they do 1 more poll to decide what the best Doctor Who story is by choosing the highest rated stories from each Doctor & putting them together for another poll. Why?! That just creates more confusion with the overall poll! The winner of that final poll is clear evidence of that as Heaven Sent didn’t not rank No. 1 for The Twelfth Doctor, but somehow was ranked No. 1 for the entire series! It doesn’t make sense!
I think Tom and Peter had some surprisingly good episodes. For example The Caves Of Androzani was a good episode. Some however, weren't so great. E.g City of Death or something like that, but 95% of them were bangers!
Do you think there's a correlation between the sort of people who take top 10 lists seriously and the sort of people who like the work of Steven Moffat? The "obviously it's objectively the best... it's Blink!" crowd. (not knocking Blink or Steven Moffat)
Idk about a correlation between Moffat Fans and top 10 lists. But considering that Blink is actually a really good episode I would think there would be a correlation between people who like top 10 lists and people who like blink

I love the appreciation for Capaldi!!! World Enough and Time/Doctor Falls & Heaven Sent are in my top favourites aswell

I still don't consider The Day of the Doctor to be Top 10 worthy material, let alone the highest rated in 2014.
